1761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: cash remains the only option if there's an emergency on: October 15, 2015, 10:01:15 PM
If there is a real emergency or some sort of epidemic then even cash is useless. I'd be moving with my Glock, that'd be the only way to survive Smiley

A gun? What would you do with a gun? You'll go to to a food store and kill the shopkeeper to get his supplies? If there's only one piece of bread left, and there are 9 other people hungry, will you kill all the 9 of them?

At a time, there were several streets with water at knee-level, you don't think about using a gun in that situation.
Besides, in western Europe, very few people own guns.
1762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / cash remains the only option if there's an emergency on: October 15, 2015, 02:24:54 PM
I have a friend in Cannes, France. You may not know anything about it, but there were terrible floods there 10 days ago.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34443189

My friend told me her landline phone still doesn't work. There are no phones and no Internet in most of downtown Cannes. Electricity has been fixed quite rapidly, but for 2 days, the mobile phone networks were down, so no bitcoin, and no credit cards either! All the shops couldn't handle any transactions.

The only thing which kept on working was the fiber optic network, I guess because that's the newest.

The whole thing was very local. Everything was fine a few km North, but this shall reminds us that if there's a serious emergency, cash is the only safe option.
1763  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: WordPress AdServer plugin for BitCoin network on: October 14, 2015, 12:13:41 AM
I guess this is an early release. Usually, adding a plugin to a WP site is incredibly easy, it's a one-click affair, straight from your WP website. Do you plan to release your plugin via this normal way soon?

Yes we plan to do it. We already submitted our plugin to be approved on their repo. We need to be conform with their standard before getting approve. So we still have some works to be done before.

The best to understand is to try it. It's free to try.

I'll probably wait till your plugin is approved and available like a normal WP plugin, but I may have a look at the code if I have some time.

By the way, I've just seen that there's a link on the sidebar to download the whole thing as a .zip (I'm bolding that, others may have missed it too). I hadn't noticed it yesterday.
1764  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Discussions about digital currencies in some countries. What future for bitcoin? on: October 12, 2015, 10:13:14 PM
I guess countries have more interest in blockchain technology than BTC. One country may eventually start a new cryptocurrency, making it legal tender, but that would only boost confidence in BTC, the original, because a national cryptocurrency would only be valueable within the borders of the nation which invented it.

I guess you'll find publishers easily, but what do you plan to get advertisers?
1766  Economy / Economics / Re: Stephen Hawking: ‘technology is driving ever-increasing inequality" on: October 09, 2015, 10:05:43 PM
So what's new? Technology and knowledge, or having specific skills have always created inequality. Doctors have always been more successful than peasants. The good thing is that you can't master technology in all fields. A guy can be a champion in computer science, but will he be able to fix his toilet without a plumber if there's something wrong with it?
1767  Other / Archival / Re: [ANN] TIMEREPUBLIK - Kick-start Projects. Get Services You Need. Spend No Money. on: October 09, 2015, 10:00:58 PM
I kinda like the idea, except that earning time doesn't bring any food on the table. You still need to have a real job. You can only do that on the side, and I guess it's more useful to people looking for something than to people who have something to offer.
1768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MasterCard Exec: ‘Bitcoin Doesn't Really Work in Today's Environment’ on: October 08, 2015, 11:09:28 PM
This guy's right. If you want to buy a train ticket, a credit card transaction is faster than anything with BTC. But BTC is way better if I want to send money to some guy on the other side of the planet. A credit card doesn't even compete! Credit cards can only handle consumers to business transactions, whereas BTC doesn't even make a difference between a consumer and a business. That alone makes it better.
1769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel about the negative reputation of the bitcoin currency? on: October 07, 2015, 10:52:31 PM
Jewish bankers have a terrible reputation but their business is still going strong. Americans have an awful reputation in many African countries, and in some parts or Europe. Muslims, blacks, Russians, millions of people give a bad reputation to millions others, but the sun keep's on rising every morning. I guess I have a bad reputation myself to a few people, but I don't care.

Also, having a bad reputation can be exciting. I love women with a bad reputation.
1770  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Video: Edward Snowden - 'Smartphones can be taken over´ on: October 07, 2015, 12:26:16 AM
Makes me feel smart. I don't have a smartphone and I never will. I have a very basic mobile phone which is only turned on during my work hours, but I don't use it much. Most of the time, I use encrypted emails, and that's way safer. With so many software set for automatic updates, it's impossible to control what's going on.
1771  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you really feel comfortable giving away all the information Gemini requests? on: October 07, 2015, 12:20:14 AM
No, I don't feel comfortable at all. So much that I'll never use that service. More than that, I don't feel comfortable in my home country, nor do I feel much comfortable when I'm traveling the US. I believe that very soon the only place when an average guy would be able to feel truly comfortable will be the open sea.
1772  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins 7 Transaction Per Second Limitation on: October 06, 2015, 12:20:10 AM
There are no fixed and absolute limits. The number of transactions per block can vary hugely. What you shall consider is that the Visa credit card network can handle hundreds of transactions per second while BTC can't.

yes but thats because visa has separate databases, one for each country.. so their total TPS is based on adding all their database(ledgers) together.. not based on the individual subsidiary systems

Well, actually I don't know how Visa manages its systems, but I've used my cards in many different countries, so the databases must be linked somehow. Besides, even when compared to one single country, BTC is substantially inferior to Visa. I'm sure that in the UK only, Visa handles way more transactions that the blockchain could handle.
1773  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If Spain crumbles... on: October 06, 2015, 12:12:15 AM
Let's not exaggerate, there are only 3 languages actually spoken by a sizable number of people in Spain. Catalan, Galician and Spanish. Valencian? That's another name for Catalan. It's the same language.

So according to you, the Basque language (Euskara) doesn't exist? The discrimination over language use has been sighted as one of the preliminary reasons for the violent secessionist activity in that region. Languages such as Extremaduran and Asturian are now spoken only by small minorities, but they are gaining popularity as the ethnic revival sets in.

I HAVEN'T said that the Basque language doesn't exist. Only that there are very few people actually speaking it. Same goes for Asturian and the other regional languages. The ethnic revival isn't important. What drives people to wear "República Catalana" T-shirts in Barcelona is selfishness. They say they are the most successful Spaniards and that they should not pay for the laggards in the South.
1774  Economy / Economics / Re: A country would have to be a damn fool to start a national cryptocurrency. on: October 06, 2015, 12:03:29 AM
Yes, it would probably be foolish, but it happens that countries are run by fools. A national cryptocurrency would give them a sense of control, a feeling of power, politicians would love it.

Now, let me tell you a secret. The US dollar is a national cryptocurrency. There's only one miner behind it, and he's a cool guy (I think he's stoned). He doesn't even bother keeping track of transactions. That crypto is actually printed. The choice to print it was made at an early stage to gain wide acceptance among uneducated people, but it's gonna turn full crypto real soon. Just look at the current war against cash. All $ transactions will soon be electronic, with all users registered in national databases. Then the real proof that the $ is a crypto is that its value isn't backed by anything.
1775  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin wealth inequality and why it is bad on: October 05, 2015, 11:49:39 PM
Sorry, I can't vote. I'd like to choose "I fully support Bitcoin wealth inequality" but I can't.
Hey, I live in the real world. Inequality is a fact of life, it's everywhere in nature, and it's only normal that the best and brightest are more successful than those who are not. I don't like D. Trump, though.
1776  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bank or Bitcoin Wallet? on: October 05, 2015, 11:44:48 PM
I find it difficult to understand how some people are choosing one or the other. That just doesn't sound smart to me. I currently have bank accounts in 3 different countries, and I think I've got 7 wallets with 3 different software clients to access them.
You shall not put all eggs in one basket...
1777  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If Spain crumbles... on: October 02, 2015, 11:56:38 PM
I guess Spain won be Spain any ore will it.  Wonder who will take it over and what the new name will be?

Spain will remain as Spain and Spanish will remain as the official language. If you look closely, most of the rebellious regions are having their own languages and customs, and they don't want their lives to be dominated by the Spanish. For example, Catalonia has the Catalan and Aranese languages, Asturia has the Asturian language, Galicia has Galician, Basque has Euskara, Valencia has Valencian, and the other regions have languages such as Aragonese, Leonese, Cantabrian, Extremaduran.etc. Once these regions break away, only the Spanish speaking regions will be left with Spain.

Makes sense.   I know a few people from spain and they mentioned the same thing to me before.   It will always stay the same.   More then likely anyways.

Let's not exaggerate, there are only 3 languages actually spoken by a sizable number of people in Spain. Catalan, Galician and Spanish. Valencian? That's another name for Catalan. It's the same language.

Some Catalans go as far as saying that Spanish doesn't exist, that this language is actually Castillian, but even Catalan nationalists speak some Spanish. They say one sentence in Catalan and the following one in Spanish.
1778  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it helpful or harmful to the Bitcoin to offer products/services only in BTC? on: October 02, 2015, 11:40:18 PM
Yes, that would help a lot; please do it. Well, that unless you want to sell drugs or porn, but BTC badly needs regular stores accepting it. It's a great way to raise BTC awareness. And make sure to register your store in all BTC directories.
1779  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would happen if suddenly a revolutionary mining technology was found? on: October 02, 2015, 11:36:59 PM
DannyHamilton said it first. It happened before when ASICS were invented, and BTC itself hardly changed. The real change was in the people who were mining. Once upon a time, it was single guys on their home computers who were doing all the mining. Nowadays,  large share of all mining comes from Chinese farms. This is where the real risk is. There would be even more concentration if some kind of a new super fast hardware would be invented.
1780  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If Spain crumbles... on: October 02, 2015, 12:46:28 AM
The Basque region is the only rebellious region in Spain. The other regions hardly exist besides in the recent history books. Catalans say there were created from scratch when the country set up administrative regions last century.

No. That is not the case. Catalonia has its own language (Catalan) and culture. Same is the case with Asturia, Galicia and Basque. The Spanish central government has been trying to suppress the local languages and cultures for too long. And this is one of the reasons why these regions are trying to break away from Spain.

I meant the Basque region is the only other region besides Catalonia, but most Basques are now happy to be Spanish. Same for people in Asturia. Only Catalonia truly wants to leave despite Spain's allowing nearly everything it wants, just like the other regions. Galician by example is the official language in Galicia, and the region's autonomous so there would be nothing to gain by leaving Spain.
