2741  Economy / Economics / Re: Tech Startup Wants To Gamify Suing People Using Crypto Tokens on: January 13, 2022, 09:12:59 PM
There are quite a few companies in the US that finance litigation, that is something well known and not that new and corresponds to a country that is highly litigious by the way the system is designed, but at the same time is designed so that only people with a strong financial backup can actually get justice for their issues.

The innovation, as the OP points out is that now is short of a tokenised crowdfunding or betting if you want to put it that way. Given that most people cannot measure the real merits and chances of success of a tort, I foresee this to be just another betting option with the peculiarity that people can "show support" in cases in which they agree with the plaintiff.
2742  Economy / Economics / Re: 12% of First-Time Homebuyers Say Selling Crypto Helped Save for Down Payment on: January 13, 2022, 09:07:45 PM
It’s also worth pointing out, and the article has made it clear, that while others have made money out of their investments, others have also lost theirs. Other investments went to the moon while others went up in smoke. ...

In fact it is well known that some people killed themselves both financially and, in the most unfortunate cases, physically. There has been a huge crowd of people that did not really understand crypto, or better said, they did not have a hint about crypto nor life in general, and all fell easily for the scams and the promised land of money for nothing. Too bad, once more where there is opportunity, there is risk.
2743  Economy / Economics / Re: Peter McCormack: 'Bitcoin has WON the war on money'. Do you agree? on: January 13, 2022, 09:04:31 PM
There never was a war on money. Bitcoin has proven that, until now, the demand exceeds the offer and thus there is price increase that is likely to continue. Bitcoin is not the opposite of money, that is just a construct that some people use to convince others to buy. It is rather a tool you can use for the originally intended peer-to-peer transfer of economic units. If now has become a tool for speculation, I do not consider it a success.
2744  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid crisis leaves Sri Lanka on brink of bankruptcy on: January 12, 2022, 11:02:23 PM
Aside from this crisis and bankruptcy, the other bad news that I've read in Sri Lanka are those kids that are left by their parents that have passed away due to the virus. It's sad and more problems are existing due to this pandemic.

But I regret why China got involved in this crisis after they wanted to help?
Yes, there's the help but there's also the inner intention of what they want and that's why they're helping. This is not only for Sri Lanka but also in many countries in South East Asia and as well as African countries. It is the known debt trap of China.

All economic tragedies come with a cost in lives. Modern societies depend on medicine to guarantee the welfare of the people and medicine, particularly the one depending on big international pharma industry, has become very expensive and destined to mostly make patients cronically sick and dependent on medicines rather than to effectively cure the afflictions. COVID has a side economic effect that is more deadly than the virus itself.
2745  Economy / Economics / Re: Thinking through how the blockchain and related tech might impact real estate. on: January 12, 2022, 09:35:20 PM
There is very little that a decentralised system can add to real state as such that cannot be achieved already by existing means and by the usual databases and systems. However, there is something to be said about decentralised organisations and new governance systems that can actually make the managing of real state more democratic or easier. I am talking about voting, demonstrating rights, paying and providing collaterals, but all that fall more into financing.
2746  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Pros and Cons of Gambling on: January 12, 2022, 09:28:47 PM
The only con I can find in gambling is not due to gambling itself but rather to some individuals that get addicted and are not fully in control of what they do or that extend their play beyond what they can really afford to loose and beyond the point in which the fun stops. Other than that, it just fun and excitement and you can even enjoy it with friends or make "a match more interesting" as they say. So nothing wrong with gambling at all, just with people.
2747  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto betting vs Fiat betting on: January 12, 2022, 09:23:55 PM
I think that using crypto has very large advantages over using fiat, and very little inconveniences. Among the advantages, the electronic transfer is fantastic and the fact that you get the prices in crypto is attractive for many users. Also, you still can keep you holdings even if they are in the casino account, which is also good to catch the bitcoin ups when they come. One possible disadvantage is  that bitcoin and other may be expensive to move sometimes.
2748  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling for the rich who can afford to lose ? on: January 12, 2022, 09:19:28 PM
My take is that gambling can be for everyone and the good and the bad of gambling can also be for anyone. You can bet even 1 USD if you want, there are innumerable games that offer even quite large prices for that little stake (like many lottos) so people who do not really have much still can play from time to time as most will at least be able to afford a little like 5 dollars a week or even 1 dollar a week.

On the other side of the spectrum, no matter how rich you are if you bet beyond your means. There is always a limit for everyone.
2749  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why Gambling addiction?! on: January 12, 2022, 09:12:55 PM
The profile of someone who gets addicted to gaming is usually linked to other addiction in which you a very strong "high" when you win and it does not matter what you need to go through to get that "high". Everyone likes winning, but the typical human is very risk adverse. The gaming addict gets much more positive reinforcement from a small win that he or she gets from many losses. Along with that, they tend to have an inability to just stop when it is affecting their life.
2750  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: January 12, 2022, 09:07:50 PM
The goalpost that signifies luck is on Barcelona's side. Benzema immediately went limp and couldn't believe his shot, which was already a goal, didn't bring him any luck. But moments later the goal was created so dramatically, Benzema finally completed his delayed goal very beautifully. Both of them are getting hotter, and building attacks against each other, the mentality of Barcelona players is not easy to fade.
In my opinion, this match was quite interesting where both teams played quite well throughout the match. I see Barcelona can match Real Madrid's game and this is something good for them. Barcelona has a squad that is quite fit in this match where there are many players who can be an option for Xavi. The first half ended 1-1, and now it's 2-2.

Yes you are right  Grin

Barcelona improved quite well and the draw left us wondering what happened to Real Madrid after sending Modric off and changing defensive play. Pressure after pressure makes Barcelona violent. You all must have seen from Barcelona's performance that Xavi was very proud to be able to hold the score to a draw. the match ended quite extraordinary.

Given Barcelona's track during the season, this was not only a good game worth of the historic derby for the year, but also an statement about the spirit of football and the teams that grow stronger under difficult circumstances and can deliver a good game when they really want to do so. It is even suspicious that Barca can actually play that well and is however flunking big time any chance of being in the top this year.
2751  Economy / Gambling / Re: What are the best ways to choose a casino on: January 12, 2022, 09:04:23 PM
You at least got one thing right: it is all about not getting scammed and unfortunately that means that you may need to narrow your selection to only those houses that have been in the market for a while and have a good reputation in this forum or in other discussion forums. Reputation is key to choose, once you have a shortlist of sites you trust, just dedicate some time to find if they have the games you like most and, lastly, wait for a good offer or a special sale.
2752  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency Investors Try to Turn Private Islands Into Blockchain Utopias on: January 11, 2022, 11:38:28 PM
The Island sales have always been around, and there are a few dedicated sites as well for them:
https://www.privateislandsonline.com

It is only but normal that people with too much money too spend look for stuff like that, but I wonder how many of the buyers actually consider that owning an Island is not only an expensive purchase, but also something that you actually need to maintain. Even most of these Islands for sale do belong to countries, many are not precisely known for having a great security so your shopping list may look like:

- Buy island.
- Go to IKEA for furniture
- Hire a small army.
2753  Economy / Economics / Re: 12% of First-Time Homebuyers Say Selling Crypto Helped Save for Down Payment on: January 11, 2022, 11:31:55 PM
Makes perfect sense if you think of it. Typically, first home buyers are young people, depending on the country, it can from 20 to 30 years old, perhaps more in some places. This is mostly a profile in which at least 12% of people would have some crypto even in the early stages. It is a quite interesting fact still, as it depicts how a deflationary asset is used for only the things that actually matter most to people and on which it makes sense to spend some of the holdings.
2754  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: IS it possible to let your BTC work for you ? on: January 11, 2022, 06:12:38 PM
There is not an embedded mechanism in the bitcoin network that would allow you to stake in the way you can stake some of the Alts, as the bitcoin network's safety is based on PoW. Any respectable thrid party will ask you for a KYC and it is certain that if you are to lend them, you will need to provide access to them either by deposit or keys. I am afraid that you would need to choose either a different crypto or accept KYC.
2755  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S. Contemplating Isolating Russia from SWIFT Banking System on: January 11, 2022, 10:19:47 AM
Under all these issues there is an underlying belief from Russia or at least a large part of the Russian people that the USSR was de-facto Russia controlling all the republics under an illusion of partial decentralisation and also that now, even though the USSR does not exist as such, countries such as Ukraine and other are still a satellites of Russia and their citizens have nothing to say on regards of how they are run and how they want to play their international relations. This is a wake up call for the despots.
2756  Economy / Economics / Re: 2022 Savings and investment plan on: January 10, 2022, 12:05:53 PM
Everything should have a plan.I have already some plan for this year.I want to Invest in Long time holding and trading. My plan goes to I'm buying some valuable coin and long time hold and. I think every investor or trader should need to patience and control yourself.I learned already from my mistake in 2021, i hope i will Victory this year.

I Think first You need to made right choice and i hope you will get benefit from your holding coin and trading business.

Sounds a solid plan, but I'm just wondering why did you just emphasize the mistake in 2021? I mean you're here long enough before the pump in 2017 which really caused a lot of investors to regret. Haven't you learned a lesson from there?
You should have made good decisions in 2018 and buy more Btc or alts that has potential to grow from there.

It's just Ironic that you're here for quite a long time yet you haven't decided to make any investment plan but just now.

it is never to late. It may take you years to convince yourself that there is something else than holding your cash and see it victim of the inflation year after year or buy a negative interest rate bond from the EU or go into fixed deposits that pay less than the (REAL) inflation out there. It is never to late to get into a savings plan, yet probably investing into crypto is not exactly a savings plan, but more of an speculative investment for the future.
2757  Economy / Economics / Re: Only 3 hedge funds outperformed the S&P in 2021 on: January 09, 2022, 10:59:43 PM
If anyone is thinking of buying shares of a hedge fund recommended to them by the banker, they had better think again.

It appears that only 3 of the 12,000 hedge funds available have beaten the performance of the S&P 500 in 2021. I say it seems because I don't see any top quality sources to back it up. I first heard it on a YouTube video and doing a search I only see these two sources:

Reddit: Only 3 hedge funds outperformed the S&P 500 in 2021

Blog: A deep dive into NFTs

In any case, the news is in line with what we already knew some years ago. Very few hedge funds beat the S&P 500 index, and the longer the term, the less they beat it.

Investopedia: From January 1994 to March 2021—through both bull and bear markets—the passive S&P 500 Index outperformed every major hedge fund strategy by over 2.5% in annualized return.

There was even a famous bet by Warren Buffet on the subject, won by him:

Buffett's Bet with the Hedge Funds: And the Winner Is …

It is not worth paying high commissions to have a small chance of beating the index. If you buy the index directly you have a clear probability of more than 90% of having a higher return than the rest of the industry.

As you say it, it sounds much worse than it really is. There are many funds out there that outperformed the SP500, even if you are speaking about the Total Return , that is, including dividends. The SP500 has performed greatly thanks to just a few companies (typically the FANGS), Microsoft and the like. Indexes in which these are particularly overweighed or any fund with bias to technology has outperformed the SP last year.

BTW, it is time to become a bit more defensive for the time coming.
2758  Economy / Economics / Re: Euro zone inflation hit a new record high of 5% in December on: January 08, 2022, 06:00:55 PM
Unsurprising since Germany was around a 6% recently and is the major driver of the economy on EU and most Europe. My thoughts about this revolve about the effect on bitcoin. On one side, inflation tends to be good for assets such as bitcoin that are scarce, but, on the other side, the governments may rise interest rates, even by just a little and that will have a strong negative effect.
2759  Economy / Economics / Re: Life Insurance and Blockchain on: January 07, 2022, 10:48:53 PM
There has been the usual bluff and hype on using blockchain for insurance. In my view, there is no real added value of blockchain to the simple use of traditional databases and documents. Insurance is quite a legal stuff that has already an extensive fintech behind and there is not that much to be done. Why would you need a trustless network or have a distributed database that is actually expensive to maintain?

Any project on this should very clear explain how savings or benefits are achieved.
