2781  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC passes $5,000 USD milestone on: October 12, 2017, 01:59:17 PM
Any theories on what caused the sudden spike in price? Do you think the price will hold over the next few weeks? Any speculations for the future?

One theory is that people are buying BTC to hold them for a couple of weeks and to get the upcoming Bitcoin Gold.

We've also seen this happen at the time of the previous Bitcoin Cash fork, but not too long after that we had a lot of bad news from China which caused the price to drop again.

I wonder what the price will do this time if we don't have a string of bad news coming in after the forks happened.

Also keep in mind that this will also bring in new investors who are attracted by the sudden price increase. I've personally had a lot of friends ask about Bitcoin lately. There's an article on Bitcoin pretty much every week now in our local newspapers as well.
2782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi controlling 500'000 BTC on: October 11, 2017, 09:08:38 PM
We don't even know if Satoshi is still alive or if he even has control over those Bitcoins, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I personally think it's very likely that he isn't alive anymore, seems plausible that Hall Finney was Satoshi and used his neighbors name (Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto).
2783  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: has anyone tried freebitco.in investment? on: October 11, 2017, 03:49:50 PM
I think they give out way too little for investors, given that you'd have to invest a significant amount to even think of making a profit.
4.08% per year is just not enough if you consider the risk of leaving your coins with them for over a year.

I prefer investing in websites that share profit based on an actual profit or loss percentage, preferably for less than 1 year.

On CryptoGames for example, you'd make way more profit in less than a year.

Take a look at this thread:

2784  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Regulated Cryptocurrency Betting Just Got a Big Boost in Europe on: October 11, 2017, 01:49:39 PM
Member states will still be able to have their own regulations regarding gambling.
I don't see any of these sites legally operating in Belgium very soon, they just DNS block gambling sites that don't have a license in Belgium.

I don't know if it's the same in other EU countries though.
2785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inherit coins to my family after passed away on: October 11, 2017, 12:45:13 PM
I already have access to my private keys stored in a safety deposit box that my wife has access to, together with instructions on how to access the coins.

It's kinda risky to have all that information in one place, but I'm sure that my wife would appreciate it if something happens to me.
The chances that someone other than my wife gaining access to them is still pretty low I would think.
2786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATM increasing at rapid rate.... update on: October 11, 2017, 12:32:36 PM
Buying bitcoin fee is around usually around 10%-25% depending on the ATM. Some ATM have 3% fee. There are a few different brands.

Selling bitcoin is 0% fee.
What country are you talking about btw? I've just found an article that lists the average fee on Bitcoin ATM's and it's nowhere near the percentage that you mention.

The average fee on Bitcoin ATMs in 2016 was 7.5% and 923 machines were tested in total.

Usually the fees are below 10% and I can't imagine anyone paying a 25% fee to buy Bitcoin.

2787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How much do people fear key loggers? on: October 11, 2017, 12:05:04 PM
This is not a real worry of mine, as I already do everything possible to avoid installing malware.
Usually it's through fault of the user that their computer gets infected, although a targeted attack is also possible, it's pretty unlikely.

Be wary of everything you download and never download something from an untrusted source.
Even Word or PDF documents can be infected, so also watch out for those.

If you really have to download something that could contain malware, run it in a sandbox or on a virtual machine.

It's also a good idea to install the NoScript plugin on your webbrowser and disable javascript.
I also never run Flash.
2788  Economy / Gambling / Re: Top PROVABLY FAIR Casinos on: October 11, 2017, 11:43:53 AM
It's definitely Crypto-Games for me, I've been playing there for a couple of years and they've never let me down.
Their support os the best imo and their games are pretty simple but they just work, all provably fair of course.

The fact that you can play with a bunch of altcoins and also exchange them on their website is just really handy.

One big feature is that their lottery is actually +EV and you can enter for 0.0001 BTC to win a prize over 0.03 BTC usually.
2789  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: when do you buy ? on: October 11, 2017, 11:32:50 AM
I always buy right after a support level has been hit or almost hit and I see the trend going upwards again.
Usually it happens if negative news has died down a bit, like with the situation in China, that didn't take too long for the price to recover.

I can already see that there's a lot of trust in Bitcoin, just because the price didn't take a really massive hit after a week of negative reporting.
Traders aren't as ready to just dump everything as they would have in the past.

There really has to happen something serious in order for the price to crash down to under 3000 dollars, it seems.
2790  Other / Off-topic / Re: Crypto Currency Youtubers on: October 11, 2017, 10:56:06 AM
The crypto-related Youtube channels I watch , I do because they make great tutorials and do in-depth market analysis of the Bitcoin price.
I regularly watch 'The Cryptoverse' on Youtube, he has a great balance between news and tutorials, his market analysis is also correct.

Besides, I wouldn't really mind that you'd put ads on your channel, I'd still watch if the content was good.

2791  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2018 World Cup qualifications, UEFA zone, discussion and information thread on: October 11, 2017, 10:49:46 AM
Belgium has done really good in the qualifiers, almost a perfect campaign albeit their group wasn't really that tough.
I really think they'll do a lot better with Martinez as a coach in this world cup than in the previous one with Wilmots.

It would be really amazing if they managed to reach the finals.
2792  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Sell all alts to buy more cheaper? on: October 11, 2017, 10:32:30 AM
I've sold most of mine earlier already, but I don't think that it's too late to start selling them now.
Especially with the upcoming fork, people will be looking to sell their altcoins for Bitcoin to get their free Bitcoin Gold.

There are a few exceptions for me though, I'm still holding on to my Ripple for example.
2793  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: bitcoin papper wallet on: October 11, 2017, 10:20:36 AM
But if he wants to provide open source code?
I only don't understand what would be the benefits, to use your generator instead of well known services like bitaddress.
I'm not saying that I know 100% sure that this is a scam, but even if he says he will open-source his script, it's still very likely that his current generator is designed to have access to the private keys of generated paper wallets.

Anyone who uses this service as it is now will be giving that website access to their private keys of their generated paper wallets.

OP, why even make a service like this? No-one should even think about generating a paper wallet this way, even if you're not a scammer, you're teaching people to use a server-side generated paper wallet, which is bad under any circumstance.

I would take the website down and focus on making a paper wallet that is generated client-side and open up the code for inspection.

No-one should use this service or a service like this ever.
2794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Omise partners with McDonald's on: October 10, 2017, 04:12:46 PM
Definitely great news to hear, if we see even more corporate support lie this, OMG has a very bright future ahead.
Does anyone know if Omise gets used a lot in Thailand already? I mean, they have quite a lot of funding already, I hope they also spend enough on marketing in the target countries.
2795  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What actually is Provably Fairness?! on: October 10, 2017, 01:47:01 PM
This is a nice explanation but it will not do you any good if you don't know how to manually check by yourself if a gambling website is really provably fair or not.

I've found an old article that will teach you how to check each of your bets to see if they were fair. He's checking a Blackjack game, but you can easily apply this to other games on different websites yourself.

2796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So when do you "actually" plan to cash in your bitcoin? > or <$1,000,000 on: October 10, 2017, 01:39:29 PM
I sell my coins continually and I also buy more when I need more. I mean if I see the price dropping significantly, I usually sell them just to buy them back at a lower price afterwards.

I also purchase quite a few things with Bitcoin, so you can also consider that selling.
2797  Economy / Gambling / Re: ★Crypto-Games.net ★ 10 coins ★ 7 games ★ Since 2014 ★ Largest Crowdfunded Casino on: October 10, 2017, 01:25:49 PM
Another thing currently lacking in their code is two way replay protection,
something essential for any fork to avoid replay attacks and problems with transactions down the road (which would include distributions by CG and other sites).
The current status is, replay protection is a WIP right now, and will be done before the launch, which would be postponed if it's not ready in time[4].

Taking all these things together, there's still a lot of if's, when's and maybe's. Some of those might change heavily and rapidly in the next days (at least this is my assessment).
I wouldn't expect an official announcement from CG before all important aspects are fully cleared.
This includes a firm forking date (block or timestamp), a binding statement about any premine, as well as working replay protection.
As long as these things aren't checked out, the decision about if and how CG proceeds regarding BTCGPU might still change.

I'd expect them to handle the fork similar to Bitcoin Cash, and proceed with distributions, as long as the circumstances allow it and a distribution seems reasonable.

So it's possible that the fork will get delayed and will not be ready on the 25th of October?
Also, seems reasonable to put an announcement on hold until these things are all cleared up, besides it's probably going to be very similar to what happened with the previous fork.

Kinda silly though that you guys have to do all that additional programming, if this was a one time thing, okay... But how many of these forks will we see after this?
2798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How I lost 95 Bitcoin on: October 10, 2017, 01:14:42 PM
I hope you can recover them in a way but as much as I read it is impossible...
I wouldn't say that it's impossible, just very difficult.

It can't hurt to file a police report and if you're lucky, the creators of the malware might get arrested in the next few months or years and he might be able to get his coins back.

You cannot do anything now. They are gone and it is over. Even if you find how your bitcoin were stolen and by who you cannot prove that. Also you cant go to the police since bitcoin is anonymous and there is no way to prove that you owned that 95 bitcoins.
You have to think about every possible person who knew that you have 95 bitcoins in your wallet. Did you posted somewhere on the internet? Did you told your friends? Did you posted anything on the internet that can lead a hacker to you? If you are absolutely sure none of this happened ,it could be an inside job but there is a very small chance for that

Why wouldn't he be able to prove it? He has access to the private keys of the address that held the coins before they were stolen.
Looking at the rest of your post, you haven't read that they got stolen because he had installed a keylogger.
2799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHY SUCH CONTEMPT AND DISPARAGING FOR ALT-COINS?! on: October 09, 2017, 01:14:19 PM

It's because a lot, if not most altcoins are vaporware with no real technology behind it. I guess altcoins that purely function as a currency are doing what they are designed for but for the most part a lot of crypto are coming out with no real substance. I try to find and support crypto that have a real development team behind it, a strong community and of course a real product, platform or service.

Yeah that's the thing, there are new altcoins and ICO's created en masse every day, so it's easy to just lump everything together and say that 'altcoins are scam'.

Most of the older altcoins that still have a lot of marketcap are the most interesting in term of development and project behind it.
2800  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: — CryptoList — Curated Cryptocurrency Resources (170+) on: October 09, 2017, 12:35:21 PM
I like this one:
"Poloniex - USA. Trust: 3.5/5. Tons of altcoins. Poor support." Grin

If you don`t trust and don`t like Poloniex, why do you add it to the list?I know that it`s a big
cryptocurrency exchange platform, but you should add only the best and most trusted platforms and websites.
Anyway,it`s a pretty good list. You should promote it,so more crypto newbies become familiar with btc and altcoins.
Poloniex is one al the biggest altcoin exchanges, so it would be silly not to add it to the list.
Apart from the bad support, there are also enough people who use it without having any issues.

Great work OP, it's really nice of you to have open sourced this and put it on Github!
