1821  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽⚽World Cup and crypto, what do you think?⚽⚽ on: June 08, 2018, 03:51:39 PM
I don't really think that the world cup will have that big of an impact on crypto betting.
It's the traditional bookmakers that are buying up all the ad-space to promote betting on the world cup.

Why do you think it will have any sort of impact on the crypto market?
1822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3000 Bitcoins ATM worldwide !!!! on: June 08, 2018, 02:49:50 PM
At first glance sounds like a great number but if you think twice it's not such a big thing because these are fugures for the whole world. So relatively small number of people in the world is using Bitcoin ATMs.
But I have the feeling they are losing popularity because users have many other ways to buy/sell Bitcoins and ATM are hardly accesible because in every town you have only few of them.

They still have decent volume though, especially at premium locations.
I've found this quora answer from the person behind coinatmradar.com and he mentioned that some atms were trading 20k - 30k volume on average.

This was 2016, so I'm sure those numbers have increased.

1823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin the “Last Thing I’d Want to Own” if Grid Goes Down: Short Seller on: June 08, 2018, 02:29:15 PM
When there's a big worldwide disaster like that, I'd bet we'll see an opportunistic ICO pop up to take advantage of the situation.
They'll be peddling Doomsday tokens to get access to basic necessities. There must be a way to do it without the electricity grid being up.

Maybe people will set up a mesh network and power it with solar Tongue
1824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you look for in an Altcoin announcement thread? on: June 07, 2018, 08:21:51 PM
I personally like announcement threads where you have a lot of the information about the ICO and possible bounties and rewards.
Doesn't have to be too long, as long as the formatting looks somewhat professional.

Images can be a nice addition, but aren't needed for me personally.

I would check out the website anyway, but the thread would have to catch my eye first.
1825  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is making admirable progress! on: June 07, 2018, 03:55:04 PM
Yes, Bitcoin is really making good progress in terms of growth and awareness aspects but still, there are some issues on which, we need to work on priority basis. Let's honestly admit that Bitcoin is still not affordable to use it as a payment system when it comes to the microtransactions. In most of the cases, the things of day to day life are available at the price of Bitcoin transaction fees so why would someone use Bitcoin if technically he can get it for free? Alternatively, we must encourage more and more people to use their Bitcoins to buy things and services because that's what Bitcoin is all about at its core. It doesn't make any sense to just hold it instead for speculation.

What do you mean, I literally pay 1 or 2 cents worth of BTC when I send a transaction with my segwit address.
If you're not using segwit, then you're just throwing away money and it's your own fault.

The thing I'm most bothered by today is the relatively slow speed at which transactions confirm.
I've had to wait close to an hour to get some transactions confirmed.

Luckily LN will solve that.
1826  Economy / Economics / Re: GOOD NEWS ! Cryptocurrencies 'Are Not Going Away' Says CFTC Official on: June 07, 2018, 03:35:08 PM
If that isn't positive news, I don't know what is.
It's pretty big that someone from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission believes in the success of cryptocurrencies.

He didn't mention any specific cryptocurrencies and is just using the word blockchain.
Seems like a bit of a cop-out to me.
1827  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [FREE] CryptoDetail.com Is Accepting Guest Posts on: June 07, 2018, 03:25:54 PM
So you're not paying authors anything to make a guest post on your website.
Why would anyone do that? Perhaps to build a portfolio, but you're not going to get quality articles IMO.

I can just keep my blog on Medium and Steemit, which have way more traffic and let me earn something.
1828  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Need guidance on cloud mining returns on: June 07, 2018, 03:07:45 PM
This is the miners email ID:

BitmainS Antminer@miner.com <bitmains9antminer@gmail.com>

Where did you find this service? Do they have a website or something?
It's very fishy that they use a gmail address instead of email through their own domain.

Was this some sort of personal deal that you made with someone?
1829  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Real-Life Professional Gambler will help you recover your losses on: June 07, 2018, 03:01:38 PM
LOL if you had said professional poker player, maybe some people would have believed you, but the fact you mentioned roulette just shows you're either lying or delusional.
Roulette is a minus EV game and it impossible to predict the next numbers in any way.

It's the same hiring a fortune teller to predict the next numbers Tongue
1830  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What currencies do you gamble with? on: June 06, 2018, 05:40:52 PM
As far as altcoins go, I really like to gamble with Litecoin and Dogecoin, just because they're low in value and the minimum bets are lower.
It's also much faster to deposit, since you usually don't have to wait long for confirmations.

It's usually a lot more expensive and slower to gamble with Bitcoin. Just yesterday I had to wait almost an hour to get 1 confirmation.
1831  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: We should build a seastead on: June 06, 2018, 02:21:05 PM
Would it be possible to build these islands from recycled materials?
I know that there have been a few pilot projects testing this out, but I wonder if it's feasible to do on such a grand scale.

This is an article from 2015, but it gives you an idea of what I mean:
https://www.livingcircular.veolia.com/en/recycled-floating-islands

Just for the record, I'm not talking about something amateurish like this:
http://www.earthporm.com/environmentalist-builds-floating-island-100000-plastic-bottles/

I doubt that would survive the constant onslaught of the high seas.

Perhaps it might be better to just create a cooperative, instead of an ICO? What's the benefit of one over the other?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperative

I have been involved with Blue Frontiers who is building seasteads and they keep talking about recycled materials and environmentally friendly building methods. I'm not involved in that part of things so I don't know the details. My participation is mainly on the blockchain side of things.

The seastead ICO is already underway with the presale going right now at http://www.varyon.io

Interesting, I didn't know that your project was specifically focused on creating these islands in an environmentally friendly way.
The way I see it, a society on these artificial islands should be at least partially self-sufficient in many ways.

It would be an amazing feat if you were able to create new additions without sourcing building materials from the nearest land mass.
1832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Microsoft buying GitHub for 7.5 billion, Good or it's Death? on: June 06, 2018, 10:46:45 AM
I think it's very good because microsoft is a very big company and very famous in the world, when github already bought by microsoft then all source code and contents that exist in github can be mastered by microsoft and can be github not free anymore.

I don't really understand what you're saying here... First you say that you think it's very good, then you mention that Github won't be free anymore.
Each project on Github is released under its own specific license, so Microsoft doesn't own any of it.
1833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Microsoft buying GitHub for 7.5 billion, Good or it's Death? on: June 06, 2018, 09:46:21 AM
Microsoft VP will become CEO of Github.  Is this a attack against open source or Microsoft embracing it and wanting to bring it into the mainstream?

Personally I think microsoft coders use it so much, like constantly, and Bill Gates doesn't want to feel like he is playing second fiddle.  Also they want Github to be able to be used for non open source projects in addition to open source projects, and they don't want another entity controlling their secret data.  So they decide to buy it so they will control the data.

m/2018/06/04/microsoft-buys-github.html]https://www.c[Suspicious link removed]m/2018/06/04/microsoft-buys-github.html
How can that be an attack to open source when Microsoft themselves lately contributing very heavily to open source(they even have a seat at Linux Foundation)? Currently, MS with new management, kicking ass for opponents and doing pretty good as a company.

Right now there are millions of private repos which are not open source, so what are you talking about?

Your third point is nonsense as well Git as technology is pretty decentralized, if they want control their secret data, they can host Git themselves.

With Microsoft management, Github should become even better place.

I share your sentiment, I've seen a few talks of Satya Nadella (Microsoft CEO) and I had always gotten the impression that they've changed their policy when it come to Open-Source.
They're a premium sponsor of the Open Source Initiative. Source: https://techcrunch.com/2017/09/27/microsoft-becomes-a-sponsor-of-the-open-source-initiative/?guccounter=1

Indeed, I think they're also still a platinum member of the Linux foundation as well.
Source: https://www.linuxfoundation.org/press-release/microsoft-fortifies-commitment-to-open-source-becomes-linux-foundation-platinum-member/

I've also done some research to find out what kind of contributions Microsoft brings to open source projects.
Especially compared to Google, since it's known that Google contributes a lot.

Quote
Looking at GitHub during 2017:

Microsoft appears to have ~1,300 employees actively pushing code to 825 top repositories on GitHub.
Google displays ~900 employees active on GitHub, who are pushing code to ~1,100 top repositories.
Amazon appears to have only 134 active employees on GitHub, pushing code to only 158 top projects.
Not all projects are equal: While Googlers are contributing code to 25% more repositories than Microsoft, these repositories have collected way more stars (530,000 vs 260,000). Amazon repositories sum of 2017 stars? 27,000.

Also interesting:
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/why-microsoft-and-google-are-now-leading-the-open-source-revolution/

I do understand why many people in the open-source community still harbor ill feelings towards Microsoft.
Back in the early 2000's Ballmer publicly called Linux a cancer.
Source: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/06/02/ballmer_linux_is_a_cancer/

He has changed his mind since then though.
Source: https://www.zdnet.com/article/ballmer-i-may-have-called-linux-a-cancer-but-now-i-love-it/

I went a little bit overboard with the links, but I think you get the point that it's not this black/white issue.

1835  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What made you Invest into Crypto Currency on: June 05, 2018, 09:49:13 PM
I've started learning about Bitcoin back in 2012, purchasing my first coins on Kraken.
The only reason why I bought into Bitcoin back then was because I heard from a friend how amazing this new technology was.

He was promoting it as an alternative to Paypal, but explained that it was something completely different.
Back then it wasn't a problem to buy a couple of BTC for very good prices, so I spent a couple of hundred dollars.

I was never really into day-trading, so I just held them and sold a bunch when the price went up to $1000.
1836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Time locked transactions on: June 05, 2018, 08:52:57 PM
Can anyone tell me how to unlock the transection in between?

You mean unlock it before the timelock has expired?
I'm afraid that's not possible, unless you've accidentally made a mistake while creating the timelock.

This is what Achow mentioned on my other thread:

Quote
A transaction with a timelock means that the transaction itself cannot confirm before the timelock (either a block height or a timestamp). However a conflicting transaction (one that spends the same inputs) could be created and that transaction can still confirm.

In order to make coins that are unspendable until after a certain time or block height, you will need to create an address that uses OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY. Only coins sent to such an address are guaranteed to be only spendable after a certain time.

I've also asked a similar question before on this forum and got a really amazing reply.
Easy step-by-step instructions to create a time-locked transaction.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2415595.msg24710770#msg24710770

For a set-by-step guide with picture, you can visit https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@daan/how-to-create-time-locked-transactions-with-bitcoin-free-bitcoins-inside.

Lol, I've written that article myself and I even used the Bitcointalk thread I've posted as a source for that article (it's mentioned at the bottom)
I'd suggest just following Tryninja's instructions (in the thread I posted), if you know what you're doing. It's much faster that way.
1838  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: R.I.P. Poloniex (new face-image requirements) on: June 05, 2018, 05:14:00 PM

Anyway, this is crystal clear to me: RIP, Poloniex. I will no longer use their services, as long as other exchangers continue offering anonymity.

You do not use skrill? Have you seen the procedures for verification a skrill account? you would probably be shocked if you did skrill account verification. they ask the person to download an application and this application will scan your face and confirm if it matches your ID. besides they ask for many other things. is a very stressful process. probably many exchange will follow the example of poloniex, this is the end of anonymity the end of altcoins that are anonymous as monero

Oh it's the same for verifying your Neteller account. Just had to do that the other day.
First you upload a copy of your government issued ID card and then you have to install an app to take a photo to match it with your ID.

Had to try it 4 or 5 times before it even recognized it, such a waste of time.
1839  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How important is customer support of an online casino for you ? on: June 05, 2018, 04:56:24 PM
The quality of a casino's customer support is obviously important for me, but I don't really mind if I have to wait a couple of hours or even days.
That said, I've never had to wait long before I've had my support requests dealt with. Especially not at the current website I'm playing, Crypto-Games.

Other casino's might adhere to offer support on business days only and I think that's also reasonable.
1840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Steve Wozniak claims Bitcoin ‘The Only Digital Gold’. on: June 04, 2018, 09:18:11 PM
I'm glad that he's at least not changing his opinion about Bitcoin a whole lot, unlike some other people.
I think it was Bill Gates who kind of flip-flopped his position on whether Bitcoin was a good or bad sort of technology.

I also wonder how much Steve Wozniak has actually used Bitcoin, I'd bet he's probably made a few transactions at the very least.
