That would suck. Mining centralization is not a good thing at all.
I don't like it either, but it's the only possible future.

you know more about this than I do.
This is the only thing i know more than you:

Avalon's only competition for next 6 moth it's Avalon itself, there is really not much else to know.
No, asicminer is serious. They will deploy on an industrial scale killing "retail" customers.
BFL *might* have a working heater-miner (i personally don't believe them yet).
Helveticminer might also be serious, maybe we will start to see them in a few months. Certainly less than 6.

Also, with the mining economy being now worth 200M$/year, we are gonna see some real competitors. Intel/AMD/ARM? Why not?
2784  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 07, 2013, 09:41:58 AM
Sometimes, something will be out of someone's control.
You seem quite calm for someone that invested 4000BTC on batch 3.
Do you know something about ASICMINER, helveticminer and BFL that we don't? Smiley
2785  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 07, 2013, 09:34:45 AM
I think that they already started producing batch 2, and that they will simply start to ship them on the 15th. Maybe i'm dreaming, but since that they initially announced to finish shipping by the 5th of april, what happened that stopped them in this hard way? They claimed that the problem was shipping, not producing. Their new fab will allow them to produce 2x the current avalon per week, not 10x. So not that big deal. Have they stopped producing the units in the last month? Because i remember that i gave them money before the CNY just to be in time so that they could have bought resistors & capacitors for batch 2.
My guess is that they are mining with a part of this batch 2, and i'm ok with that, as long as they ship on time to let us do a good profit. Good profit = 2x invested BTC. If they don't "start shipping the majority of batch 2 on the 15th", we will most probably have a loss BTC-side. God knows how hungry will the batch 3 customers be.

It should be the 21 or the 28 of this month, here is the thread about it:

209 is awfully tempting!  Are you going to accept that if you get no more offers?
To whoever offered 209BTC, if real, please pm me. I will offer a batch 2 order for that price.
2788  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: How to buy $100k in bitcoins? on: April 06, 2013, 09:27:41 PM
I have several friends who want to buy amounts between 10k and 200k.  Some of them are in the southern California, and some of them are in Malta.  What are the current best ways to buy large amounts?  What is going on with MtGox?  How fast will they be able to buy on gox with the current AML hold up?  Does that just affect withdrawls, or deposits and trading too?

As I understand it, you can still deposit and trade BTC on Mt Gox without being verified. You are just limited in the daily withdrawals you can make.
There is a 50k USD limit.
Anyway, I would trust mtgox more than a person to person meetup for 100k.

He has been here for a while.
If you want to join our local meetup in Padua, its "only" 2 hours of road away from Milan.
2791  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 06, 2013, 05:28:47 PM
prepare yourself for another delay, just a feeling.
I don't think so. If they delay it another time, that's another ~100btc lost for each avalon for each customer.
I'm quite sure that they are doing all what's possible not to delay it another time.
2792  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: April 06, 2013, 02:44:38 PM
And whats your bandwidth usage? Smiley

It's not a lot. We're talking 100+ MB for several days worth of mining. I recently restarted my miner otherwise I would've given you some hard stats.

OK, thank you for the feedback.

I know what majority means. But what's the sense of starting to ship the majority on a given day? Does it mean that they will ship a minority after, such as in we have 500 units ready by the 15, we will ship them in 2 weeks, the others 100-200 will go out after our new farm comes online?
2795  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 06, 2013, 05:57:21 AM
I would like to understand what "start shipping the majority of the batch on the 15th" means. What does he wanted to say? What's the sense of starting to ship - the majority? I cannot understand it.
2796  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: April 06, 2013, 05:48:34 AM
What's the bandwith usage of an Avalon with stratum? Anyone is using it under a 3g connection? Thanks.

Oppure al Jazeera, servizio di venti minuti di oggi...

Diciamo che in Italia siamo indietro. All'estero capiscono...
2799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 51% attack against Bytecoin imminent? on: April 05, 2013, 02:41:57 PM
How can they have a 16k difficulty mining at 10% of the bitcoin network when the bitcoin difficulty is orders of magnitude bigger?
Also, didn't they started from difficulty 1? I thought so and that they shared the code with bitcoin . if so, how can they have already had a difficult retarget that brought them to 4000?
I don't know, I don't care.

Whats happened is the difficulty was 1 and because of all the hashing power being pointed towards the Bytecoin network the difficulty is readjusting at the fastest possible amount that it will allow.

So far the difficulty is jumping 4 times on each retarget, and because it can't jump more than 4 times (I think this is true of Bitcoin too, that the difficulty can not retarget more than 4 times the current target) then the blocks end up getting solved far quicker because the retargets are happening as fast a what allowed by the code.

so after 16,000 it will jump straight up to 64,000 and so on before it equalizes and blocks start getting solved in the 10 minutes time span again.
Interesting, thank you. I was missing the way time elapses for bitcoin Smiley
2800  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 51% attack against Bytecoin imminent? on: April 05, 2013, 02:00:40 PM
Stupids are mining it while the difficulty is still 1.
Stupids because its a scam and its worthless.

Maybe, although the difficulty is over 4000 at the moment. The re-target will be at 16,000 diff, maybe people will drop of then?

Anyway, I really don't like that a currency with a name so similar to bitcoin came out.
