281  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: January 27, 2014, 06:51:36 PM
It's under spec. Not hugely, but significantly.
You mean that it's under spec by 1.25%? And that it is significant?

I don't want to defend HF here, but the only thing under spec that matters is the delivery date.

I wasn't implying anything about the relative importance of the two issues.  Of course if this damn machine had been delivered when promised, it would have been f@rking fantastic... but it wasn't, not by a long shot.  But why don't we keep that side of the discussion in the other thread?

Edit:  Oh, ooops.  I am in the other thread.  Sorry.
282  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: January 27, 2014, 06:43:44 PM
Now, put the settings back to stock (clock 550), cgminer will show 420 GH/s but the real hashrate will be <395 GH/s. Not even the 400 GH/s we were promised.

UPDATE:  Switched around pools I'm getting different results, some better.  So maybe it's a little over 400 gh/s.  Definitely 423 watts, tho...

----

Yep.  This seems to be the case here.  I'm apparently hashing about 395 gh/s and pulling 423 watts at the wall.  It seems to be under spec.  Not hugely, but significantly.

(cgminer 3.11 default settings)

Piping some very cold-ass air into it from outside, maybe 50f/9c, I can get the processor temp down to mid-60s and the hashrate apparently rises to a little bit over 400, but I can't leave the window open forever!  Tongue

283  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Asteroid -- a new Mac mining client (0.9.6) on: January 27, 2014, 05:53:05 PM
No luck here, so far, getting the BabyJet to hash with 3.11.

Getting a "Hashfast detect (6:3) failed to initialize (incorrect device?)" message.

Update:  It hashes using the PC build of 3.11.  Is this a driver or permissions issue?

Yes, it is a driver issue.  Without knowing more about your particular setup, just copy/paste this into Terminal before you launch cgminer 3.11.0 and it will disable all the known present conflicting drivers:

Code:
sudo kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver; sudo kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver64; sudo kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver; sudo kextunload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDC; sudo kextunload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDCACMData; sudo kextunload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDCACMControl; sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBFTDI.kext

It may give a few errors but it's not a problem, it'll just complain that some of the drivers you tried to disable aren't installed (which we know), but others likely are installed.

The above is also temporary.  Either logout and in again, or restart your machine, or replace every "kextunload" with "kextload" and run it again.  Any of those will put your drivers back to how they were.

No dice on that, I'm afraid.  It did find the device and it did start to hash (better than before unloading the drivers), but it was throwing a lot of errors (unhandled operation, mainly type 12, I believe) and complaining "device disappeared".  When I killed it, it reported on HFB0, HFB1, and HFB2.  Apparently it kept finding and losing the BJ?

Controller is a Mac Mini Core2, last generation of the ones in the old-style plastic box, "Late 2009", I believe. running OS X 10.9

(BFGminer doesn't work either.  It finds the device, the fans spin up and it apparently starts to hash, but you completely lose control of the process.  Terminal is dead to any inputs, stuck on the add device screen. Only way to kill it is to quit out of Terminal altogether.)

The BJ is good.  It hashes on 3.11 PC version.
284  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: January 27, 2014, 12:52:50 PM
You can run it off any PC, and that's preferable anyway since the RPi is a piece of shit. Just plug in a USB cable. The sierras don't even have one so you have to run them via USB. Any instability still around is firmware related and remember it's still early days since release (even though release was late) but once my sierra is running it does not miss a beat.

Mine is happily hashing from an old mini PC desktop.  Will try to resolve a driver conflict with Karin's help and get it hashing on the Mac mini later today.

Interestingly, after running overnight, this BJ seems a little off-spec.  It's doing about 395-7 g/hash (running cgminer 3.11).

OTOH, my HW error rate is very low and with an ambient temp of 21c (70f) my processor temp is 69-70c. What did other people get for out of the box processor temps?

I guess I should experiment with overclocking next...  I've seen 610 mentioned... other suggestions?

And sorry ckolivas, I didn't mean to suggest the Mac driver issue was your problem.  It was intended merely as an observation.

And finally... why don't we try to move all this operational discussion here, rather than in the other thread?

In fact, I'm going to xpost over there.

The RPi is a toy and a piece of shit. Why anyone would run thousands of dollars worth of equipment off it is beyond me. Toss it and connect your devices to a real PC or laptop.

Trying to do exactly that with Karin's 3.11 build for Mac.  Unfortunately, I'm getting a "Hashfast detect (6:3) failed to initialize (incorrect device?)" error.

Update:  It's hashing using 3.11 PC build.  Must be a Mac driver issue.

Is there an easy way to overclock these via the minerpeon "Miner Startup Settings"? Right now I'm having to SSH in to edit my miner.conf, which is really annoying.

Also, I've noticed SSH access on like half my babyjets is not working.

Same I can't ssh into mine either. haven't had the chance to hook up into console to mess around.

ssh isn't available on my first delivered unit. If my later units don't have access either I guess I will repurpose a real machine to be a controller -- ghetto sierra.

Personally, I don't think a Mac Mini or atom nettop or something that like that is ghetto at all, compared to the loose RaspberryPi flopping around, hung by a USB cable. Or, worse, a half dozen RPi's hanging on USB cables, buffeted by the wind coming out the exhaust, and with sketchy SDRAM cards going belly up.  Oh, and the ghetto USB wifi stick hanging out... Tongue

And, more seriously, it's only a few RPi's before you are burning the same juice as an efficient small PC.  I dunno, I suppose it depends on your setup and style, but since the general release cgminer does the same as the RPi, I'm ditching the little box.  Although if my controller goes down, it's more catastrophic (everything stops, not just one machine!), but I'd rather maintain one controller than maintain a fleet of them.
289  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Asteroid -- a new Mac mining client (0.9.5) on: January 25, 2014, 02:23:15 PM
CGMiner for Mac seems to be immediately updated with other CGMiner releases (thanks!) and, I assume, includes CGMiner mods for HF.  Correct?
Correct!

I assume that Asteroid, as it relies on an older CGMiner build, will not work with HF hardware.
Correct at the moment, but my internal builds of Asteroid support a variety of different miners, including old and new versions of cgminer.  Once it is released, it will be on the same update schedule as my cgminer for Mac OS X builds.  But at the moment, yes, you are correct Smiley

Excellent.  Thank you.  Once I get some hardware (assuming they ship some hardware), I'll try it out and let you know how it goes.

Hi Karin -

HF hardware is finally in hand, although it arrived while I was out of town (groan).  Am still planning to use cgminer for mac to control the first babyjet and more that are on the way.  Hopefully we'll see 3.11 compiled on your site soon?  Willing to be a guinea pig here if you create a version of asteroid that will support HF hardware, with the 3.11 mods.  Plan to try to get up and running Sunday evening, North America time. Thanks!

ckolivas, if you are still around:

Given all the controller hassles people are having with the RPi's, once the compiled 3.11 binaries are up at spaceman.ca, is there any reason not to donate the RPi to the Salvation Army and control my BJ, along with whatever comes out of the MPP, from the old Mac Mini I have lying around?

Maybe it's just me, but that just seems a hell of a lot simpler.

RPi = 3 watts = $2.76/yr  (but does the power supply eat more?)
Mini = 14 watts = $12.89/yr  (@$0.105/kwh)

I'll splurge on $10/yr in electric for the desktop operating system. No wifi stick hassle either.

And can the RPi run six HF boards at once? (BJ+upgrade+MPP?)  I'm assuming the mini can. Not even any need for a USB hub.

Sorry if this is off topic, but did anyone receive their machine blind, or did ciarra call first to call to confirm your address.  It seems like there are mixed reports.

Mine came blind.

Stuck overseas while my Babay Jet sits in a box at home...

Has anybody skipped the Raspberry Pi and simply plugged it into a desktop running cgminer?  Or better yet, cgminer for mac?
293  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: January 21, 2014, 09:35:52 PM
My daughter just Skyped to tell me that I received a very large box from Hashfast today (in the US).  No shipment notice preceded the box.  It just came.

Unfortunately for me, I left for Europe yesterday for a week long business trip.

I paid USD.  I am almost at the end of the Batch 1 queue, only a few places above the backorders.  I did not ask for a refund.

Wish to hell I was at home to set it up.

I haven't seen the thing with own eyes, but if it's not a Baby Jet, I don't what would be in a "very large box" sent from Hashfast.

a bomb?
a gay prostitute hidden inside a wedding cake? .... surprise, it's Long dong in his birthday suit!

clearly indicative of a serious lack of intellectual capacity.

I suspect Mr. Inaba, unfortunately, has more money than most of us and just chuckles at such statements.

i dont care about inaba's existent or non-existent intellectual capacity, but one thing is for sure, you dont measure intellectual capacity per money earned. pretty obv imo.

All I am saying is words like that would not offend him one bit, on the contrary, it just entertains him I'm sure.

Who is Inaba?
295  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: January 19, 2014, 11:58:46 PM
Something tells me that there's a flaw or two in this Modest Proposal.

As to being pragmatic, I thought my entreaties several weeks ago to collectively engage Hashfast in a compensation discussion (via the MPP, not refunds, forced, BTC, USD, or otherwise) were rather reasonable suggestions.  Others did not agree.

I guess I am finally going to put a course together on performance marketing. Still making $45k a month but looking for new challenges.

4:39 AM - 13 Aug 2009

Feel free to read the other 39 tweets: https://twitter.com/jameskottmeier

In case it wasn't clear, if you want to sell an ebook or a course on how to make money on the internet, this is the kind of reputation you need to build for yourself.

Having reviewed a lot of the web crumbs left in many places by Kottmeier (and I do believe that his real name is Abram Kottmeier***), my impression is that he's a serial liar who probably has generally led a very pathetic and modest life. All that marketing crap that he was involved in is just another scam, and the way to get "ahead" doing it seems to be encouraging others with lies about income from it.  Don't believe crap like "making $45k a month" for a second.  I don't personally know any people that apparently work(ed) as hourly male prostitutes, but I have a hard time believing that one would continue to turn tricks with random people, risking arrest and disease, if you actually had an income of over US $500,000 a year from legitimate and safe sources. As to whether or not he really has a wife and daughter, I'm not sure, although I tend to think not.

But this guy is just some two bit hustler who has spent his life moving from one shady business to another, and who might of spent some time in jail. He frankly doesn't seem to be worth of much respect.  He's spent too much time lying, too much time trying to personally gain at the expense of others. He's a lowlife.

You dig a lot shit up from HashLast that is very funny to watch.

Just got in, here in dive into my favorite thread in the whole wide world. Can't wait to read what's the latest. Meanwhile, a phone number to offer up: 415-577-5523. It was gleaned from http://pdf.secdatabase.com/1272/0001584096-13-000002.pdf. Care to guess whom it belongs to? Go ahead! Take a guess. Here's a clue: http://lists.sillylittlecars.com/pipermail/silly_little_cars-sillylittlecars.com/2011-May/003685.html Oddly, nobody has mentioned it before, at least according to Google.

I say we set a time UTC and then all simultaneously MMS him a picture of our hairy bare asses.

And, if anybody is interested in a KinkLab review... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He7b8pWoj2c

But that's not what I came here to post about. Somebody may need to copy the following video for posterity in case it ups and vanishes like so many other links associated with HashFast that has happened most recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfI70X78aLc

As seen, James Johnston posted a video about himself using the name Abram Kottmeier, soliciting a résumé while already on HashFast's payroll, teamed up with Skropenis.

Hey Phin, what makes you say that James Johnston uses Abram Kottmeier as an alias and not the other way around?

I don't know if there is an equivelent body in USA, b

Welcome to Scamerica!!!

You can joke all you want with this, but on second thought it is rather odd consumers in the biggest consumer market in the world are not protected more from such a things. I understand freedom of trade, free markets, weak state, and all this stuff, but believe me this is close to impossible to happen anywhere else. We scream constantly to overblown state mechanisms in my country, and state bureaucracy blown out of proportions, but I'm pretty certain anywhere else this things would end by state clerks all over the HF back. It's also odd that scam of these proportions is not all over the media, they should love such a juicy stories. How often multi-million dollar scams are there in the USA for this to go unnoticed?

It's the bitcoin aspect that screws up consumer protections.  If it wasn't present, there would be more obvious recourse to that kind of complaint, and they'd stand a better chance of success.

But, if you put yourself in the shoes of a bureaucrat, you're kind of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" here.  The "community" is loud and clear that bitcoin does not want regulation, but the "community" also has problems with dishonest and incompetent hardware manufacturers.  From the federal level, there is bascially a policy vacuum, because the feds haven't figured out if and how to deal with it, and they are kind of signalling 'hands off', like the "community" says it wants.

So if you wade into this as a low or mid-level bureaucrat of the sort that might typically try to enforce consumer protection laws, you're probably going to get your head chopped off and be accused of overreaching.  And you are probably saying to yourself, "heh, those guys, so proud of their independence and insulting the government all the time, now look who's crying? ... why should I stick my neck out for them?  Most of them say I'm irrelevant, until they run into @ssholes like BFL and Hashfast. Well, sorry fellas, it's time you grew up and gave us more respect. Here's a lesson for you."

So I don't get it.  Is Amy spending her time manually assembling and tweaking a Sierra every few days and then sending it to DeadTerra?

This seems like a pathetic use of her time if the company's objective here is to actually ship. (yeah, yeah, I know)
