Keep in mind 41% of global electricity comes from burning coal, so all that happens is the pollution source is relocated.

Quiet! I think I hear the pathetic sobbing of bulls... "Woe is me."

I propose we issue all blind people with jet-packs so that they can completely avoid the road crossing situation.
This will involve slightly more expensive training for the guide-dogs but I think the outcome will be worth it.
The blind people might object but we can make it a government mandate which would mean it is voluntary (apparently)

I like the cut of your jib. Hoverpacks for the blind. My goodness, the implications are staggering. I will go claim BlindHoverpacks.com now because FlyingBlind.com has been taken. "Flying blind on a rocket cycle," could take on a whole new meaning beyond Flash Gordon -- it could be a euphemism for "voluntary mandates."

yeeea but still, you cant blame people for being used to car's noise since it has been invented and suddenly change it. it do create a lot of accidents.

Please point me to the studies which reveal low noise EVs create lots of accidents.

-> http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/811526.pdf

Thanks. Apparently several studies show statistically higher pedestrian accident rates, I suppose this falls under our incessant need to de-risk everything through regulation instead of personal responsibility. I would like to know why the 2011 study chose only certain makes/models/states but that's my skeptical nature.

The Wiki page also on EV noises, interestingly, talks about how UK laws dictate car manufacturers allow for sounds to be disabled between 11PM and 6AM. Apparently the UK is more concerned about sleep deprivation than the killer noiseless EV threat.

edit: plus i dont think electric cars are greener.. think of all those batteries which are going to end up dumped

Perhaps some people buy EVs because they consider them cool, like a Porsche, and are likewise not compelled by green arguments? Or perhaps, when all is considered such as battery recycling, EV batteries still allow EVs to be greener than ICE cars? Who knows? Either one of us could google "ev ice green myth" and find endless opposing articles.

Please point me to the studies which reveal low noise EVs create lots of accidents. Your position is that we abdicate personal responsibility while crossing roads? Perhaps we should raise taxes so we can provide large titanium bubbles for people to use while crossing roads - it would certainly make them more safe.

Odd that on the scroller underneath video, and touted in the video, that Tesla accepts Bitcoin. Unless I missed the announcement Tesla does not accept Bitcoin. "A" Tesla was purchased from a car dealer who accepted Bitcoin-to-cash via BitPay. That isn't to say this wasn't cool as well, just not Tesla direct.
288  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 14, 2014, 05:12:55 PM
ohh mann electric cars are the worst.. you dont get to hear them when crossing streets..

Yeah, because you wouldn't want the awful personal responsibility burden of turning your head to see if a car is coming before crossing a street. Why not regulate it some more? Mandate rules to make EVs louder, then re-read Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron.

The sad thing is it has already happened. I think it was the National Federation of the Blind in USA forced Nissan Leaf to ADD NOISE to their car. Mandated noise, for goodness sake.

Even in New York City, it is not uncommon for people to not have cars.

True. I think Hamburg is going carless as well. It's kind of a nice movement I think, in congested cities. Some others are moving to electric car only.... there's an island somewhere doing that I believe but I forget the name. Also Hawaiian islands have taken a liking to EVs.

Adam, time to close this damn thread and make a new one.... This shit has gone Mexico

This thread has the most posts and views in the history of the forum. You're obviously operating on a level of genius I cannot comprehend.

I will grant you the secret to life. You're going to slough this, I know, but this is some zen reality for you. Notice I do not ask for payment because I am a giving kind of guy. Ready?
...drumroll, please...

Be the change. If you want to talk about TA then do that instead of yapping about Mexico. If you want rockets then post the damn rocket GIFs yourself. Or get lost. I know you prefer handouts, from the government, from Adam, etc., but you have the ability to change your life yourself.

Beyond sharing the secret of life I will help you further by posting some bull tears caused by the recent price drop to help get the thread back on track. Consider this image as my government cheese given free of charge to you, my starving indigent.

Why sit in a barely known internet forum and rail on a poorly constructed fantastical argument when you could actually be out making the world tax free?

Cause the rocket ships are taking their time refuelling.

LOL... to the moon!

If you put words in other peoples mouths rather than attempt to understand what they are actually saying, that is known as a strawman argument and is a well-known fallacy.

Strawman is more fun! But I hear your "tax is theft" mantra. Instead of complaining, be the change you want. Go make flying cars so we don't need roads. Whew, imagine having to pay for that! Talk about a tax!

If you're not talented enough to make flying cars then consider one of these many other options to deal with the tax:
1) pay the tax and enjoy that you live in a wonderful country with roads, or
2) Have a Boston Tea Party -- don't pay tax plus risk jail, or
3) start an organization whose goal is the repeal of road taxes, or
4) move to a country without road tax, or
5) start your own country and learn firsthand why we have road taxes, or
6) opt out of life. After death and estate taxes you should be pretty well tax-free after that.

You have choices. Why sit in a barely known internet forum and rail on a poorly constructed fantastical argument when you could actually be out making the world tax free?

(And I suppose you call it "localized" because it involved only six of the seven continents.  Undecided)

The conversation began with a shotgun approach: "French Revolution, World War II, or the end of Apartheid." "Localized" was my attempt to say "other than worldwide." I believe the internet has growing worldwide impact for nearly every human and the other events, while horrific and detrimental to many, did not.

To the moon!

Seriously Richy is correct, roads and almost all the new world Infrastructure is a result of thinking based of a misunderstanding, it's not that we need or don't need them or think paying tolls are unjust. It's just they may not be as relevant as you think if you correct the original misunderstanding and build from a base of free market and mutual cooperation.

It's like you guys can't even hear yourselves talk. You keep saying, "In this world that I imagine in my head, if things had worked out differently and the US would have developed flying cars before cobblestone, you would easily see what a waste of money roads are. Imagine where else we could have spent money if we didn't have roads!"

Yet in this world we call reality roads allowed us to rise above 3rd world status. I'll leave it to you to google "road importance" and maybe you can begin to understand that we wouldn't have any fucking money at all if we didn't have roads.

Please spend some time learning one of the major reasons Rome was able to rise: The Appian Way.

Stolfi trying to argue the internet has less impact than French Revolution, World War II, or the end of Apartheid... almost as bad as Richy trying to persuade us the world doesn't need roads.

My parents lived in Italy through most of Fascism and World War II.  You arrived here form Mars in late september or early october/2013, did I guess right?

Social, cultural and generational differences Jorge, most of the US posters here have no idea of the impact of war or revolution -- its something that happened on tv or movies -- it is quite tragic.

I do not buy your emotional argument that a localized war/event has more influence than the global impact of the internet. That a war event contains more combined grief and psychological trauma for the participants/victims than the internet revolution doesn't equate to more global impact.

Thanks to you my confidence in a price rise is even more "concrete."

We are definitely (probably) at the very start ...

Now there's a man with confidence!

And, well, it's exploitable. That's just the reality of it.

I, for one, applaud you coming out of the shadows with the revelation some news may be manufactured. I had no idea.

All good news, no more Gox to stop us. Jet packs are full. Prepare to strap in, bears.

People should give no weight to "good" news to up the price because... yadda...

Clearly you're new here. This is the speculation thread. We do not require any factual data to support our assessments. There has been good news: the price will go up. One need only wait long enough.
