281  Other / Politics & Society / Re: American Gun Ownership: The Positive Impacts of Law-Abiding Citizens Owning Guns on: December 09, 2021, 04:06:18 PM
A 250-pound muscle-man can easily mug, rape, and murder a 90-pound teen or granny. But if the 90-pounder has a gun, she has a chance... even if the 250-pounder has a gun as well.

Of course. That's why in the US there are NO CASES of rape, muggings or homicides, especially of girls and the elderly.
Sorry, you can use all the rhetoric you want, but reality doesn't help you.

The dude said 'has a chance'.  I guess you don't really understand the concept of 'a chance', not to mention how there is a difference between having a means of self-protection vs. having the right to have a means of self-protection.

With no right to self-protection it will be open-season on people who are suddenly known for sure to be victimizable.  Blood-bath.  But for a significant fraction of the people who want gun control, a blood-bath is not a bug; it's a feature.  It's a means of 'transfer of wealth', and helps with the problem of too many people who are hurting the earth.  Mainly the gun control people are state who understand (correctly) that without self-protection, the peeps will be driven into the waiting arms of the state for protection.

Oh, I do understand that concept very well. I also understand a few other concepts as well:

1. There's a big difference between "having" a gun, and "using" a gun.
2. In a country where almost anybody can "own and bear arms", so do most criminals, or criminal wannabes.
3. In a country that forbids guns, anybody who owns a gun is automatically a criminal. In the best of cases, that puts guns off the hands of the most violent members of society, or at least gives the police more tools to do their job.
4. There are over 180 countries in the world (yeah, big surprise: the US is not the only one) in which guns are either forbidden or otherwise regulated, and the US keep ranking higher in homicides and other crimes than most of them. Like it or not, numbers don't lie.

Now you're making drama. No country in the world (that I know of) denies its citizens the right to self protection. The difference is that in the US any tweaker can walk around armed to the teeth, and the law itself protects him, right until the moment he starts killing people.
Then again, nobody is talking about banning guns. Even most US states today only allow for concealed carry (which shows a lot more concern about "form" than "substance"). What some people are asking is that gun ownership be allowed for qualified individuals, pretty much the same as car driving. So far, despite all the drama and the cheap rhetoric, I haven't seen one valid argument against that.
282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What do you guys think about WOZX? on: December 09, 2021, 03:39:50 PM
I've been following it for some time.
Forget about the fact that Steve Wozniak has anything to do with it, I personally like the project very much, as I've been involved in the environmental cause for years, and seems not only worthy, but makes a lot of sense to me from a more practical point of view.
Yet the coin keeps finding new lows almost daily, and won't take off, or even catch any meaningful break.

Any opinions on it? Is it worth it, or it's just another useless shitcoin and should be avoided?

Than you all in advance.  Smiley
283  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can we talk about airdrops? on: December 09, 2021, 03:11:45 PM
...Are they good? Are they bad? Are they worth it?..

Currently, only those that distribute projects among their early users can be called really profitable airdrop. You have obviously heard about such airdrops that were distributed by Uniswap, 1inch and ParaSwap, the profit from which was estimated in thousands of dollars. And this list is not exhaustive, since there have been many such airdrops and there will be many more in the future.

Well, I actually just heard about them on one of the courses I'm following on the computer, so I don't know the first thing about them.
Initially, it looks like a good way to make your coin known, but it's not a surprise that scammers and other criminals have noticed them. I guess (like with everything else) I'm gonna have to do a lot more research in the near future.

Thank you all for the replies. This gives me a lot to think about.  Smiley

286  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Pfizer false data? what is doing there? on: December 07, 2021, 04:30:25 PM
So, what would be your point, other than your need to type endless posts?
Pfizer falsified data? Because a 2 week disgruntled former employee said so? Because the company would trust a new employee with sensitive information right from the moment she crosses the door?
MILLIONS of people have successfully been inoculated with the vaccine, and you don't see them dropping dead everywhere, do you? What is exactly your agenda?
287  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can we talk about airdrops? on: December 07, 2021, 03:30:56 PM
Thanks for the replies.
Well, the thing is I am super careful, and I've been going crazy for the last 2 months trying to get even a single buck to start investing, so at this point my energies are running kinda low.
That, and I have a few bad experiences (like Binance lying shamelessly through their advertising, claiming they support ARS, which they don't) that also made my life a bit more difficult, so now airdrops are looking better by the minute.
I'm a Linux user, and very paranoid (you can say "careful"  Wink), so malware is not (much) a concern, and paying fees is just impossible for me, even if I wanted to.
In any case I hate going in blindly, which is why I'm asking. Thanks again. Smiley
288  Other / Beginners & Help / Can we talk about airdrops? on: December 07, 2021, 02:38:11 PM
So I searched the forum and online. The world seems to be divided (not surprisingly) between airdrops lovers and haters, and not much in terms of actual data a newbie can use.
Could anybody please help me out?
What are they?
Are they good? Are they bad? Are they worth it?

Any info (ANYTHING) will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all in advance.  Smiley
289  Other / Politics & Society / Re: God smiles when Americans die, 2(now 3) more U.S. mass shootings on: December 07, 2021, 01:31:14 PM
Some of the genetic sewage that is Americans have been exterminated in Mass shootings in Alexandria and San Francisco, proof that there is still some small amounts of justice in this world.

Well, I don't know about justice, but there's clearly a huge amount of hate and ignorance going around. Maybe it's too hard to figure that, regardless of where we've been born or the color of our skin, we all belong to the same species?
I'm not an American. I lived in the US for more than a decade and loved it. Today, I wouldn't go back for the world.
I also lived in Spain and Perú (besides Argentina, my own country), and I can tell you, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that Americans are by far the nicest people I've ever crossed paths with. And having lived in Miami I have known people from all over the world.
In fact, your statement above only shows you're an awful human being, it hardly makes a case for you.
There are mass shootings in the US kinda regularly, and in the best of cases it's a shame, as it is the fact that Americans seem to care more about their "toys" than about their countrymen, and keep making up excuses to defend their "right" to kill each other.
In any case, I find it more likely for Americans to learn (and accept) their mistake than for the likes of you to do the same.
290  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please, help me understand. on: December 06, 2021, 06:57:19 PM
Thank you all. That's definitely something to think about.
For some reason (my head works in weird ways, sometimes), since I learned about the chance of automating the rebalancing, I somehow "decided" that the whole thing could (and should) be made by a bot.
I guess I'm gonna have to do a lot more thinking, and a helluva lot more reading...
291  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Share your story: what would you do when vaccines get mandatory? on: December 03, 2021, 07:52:02 PM
I find it mystifying to see how much people care about the government, or about this or that becoming "mandatory".
Does anybody give any thought to the fact that you might DIE from covid?
I have two dear friends who got covid. Husband and wife. Husband got it at work, and contagied her. Fortunately, they both survived it, but they both got sequels for the rest of their lives.
So, who cares what the government says? If they PROVIDE the vaccine, I will provide my arm. And no "rebellious" BS  or stupid conspiracy theory will change that.
Despite what all the "Internet Infectologists" keep saying, I have already gotten both doses of the vaccine, and I'm still very much alive and kicking. So I rather trust the real experts.
292  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please, help me understand. on: December 03, 2021, 07:33:27 PM
For appreciating assets, trading and investing will both work so a hybrid of the two will obviously work too.

Most people probably expect the hybrid to take as much time as trading though (unless you're trading something like alerts for % rises and drops as an example).

(there are people who seek investments and holding them because they don't want to think about trading or they have tried to and made a loss - either risk managed or just lost more than they wanted to - and got put off).

Thank you, that's something I hadn't thought of. Most people give advise based on their personal experience.
That could also make a case for not having all your investment riding on one single strategy, or having different accounts with different currencies, following different strategies.
I gotta do some thinking...
293  Other / Beginners & Help / Please, help me understand. on: December 03, 2021, 06:43:30 PM
Ok, yeah, I'm as new as anybody can be.
The fact is, I keep reading everybody treating investing and trading as two different worlds.
Now, the more I read about it, the more I think both investing and trading techniques could be used together to optimize returns. I have asked about it before, and was told it'd be terribly difficult to implement both at the same time. But, for what I see (yeah, I understand I probably don't know the half of it), implementing a strategy combining techniques from both shouldn't be that hard, and the difference in terms of both increased returns and minimized risks could be important.

For example: when it comes to rebalancing, using some trading techniques would help you avoid buying and/or selling at the wrong time which is a very real possibility if you rebalance using time or margin alone.

Then I keep having the suspicion I'm missing something.
Am I?

Thank you all in advance.  Smiley
294  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Thailand Plans to Become 'Crypto-Positive Society' on: December 03, 2021, 05:34:53 PM
That is quite an interesting move by that governor and he even specifically mentioned the fact that he plans on freeing cryptocurrency holders from paying taxes on their gains. That could be a real stimulus for the real economy, allowing people to buy or build houses with their cryptos without having to tax the gains they make. Or get tourism going again as soon as the pandemic allows for that. Now people hold back their cryptos for tax reasons, but that could be a real door opener for Thailand's crypto enthusiasts to get a real economy going and growing.

I think it's a great move, but I also think you guys may be reading too much into it.
The guy is talking about allowing TOURISTS to buy using cryptocurrencies without paying taxes. Nobody's talking (at least in that article) about Thailand not taxing cryptocurrency gains, or about buying or building houses. The decision is just a measure to promote tourism. Of course it's positive, but it's a far cry from allowing everybody to avoid taxes on cryptocurrency.

Either way, it'd be a great thing if more countries followed suit. It's a start. Kudos to the Thai government for it.
295  Other / Archival / Re: Newbies, don't be naive on: December 03, 2021, 04:25:20 PM
The crypto industry is a young developing world. The world of fast millionaires and very fast bankruptcies. A world of promising investments and high risks. A world without proper regulation, with a lot of scams, deception and other vulnerabilities.

But a newbie, coming to this crypto wild west, thinks that there are a large number of experienced crypto comrades in this space who will guide the newbie in the right direction, create comfortable conditions for earning, suggest a suitable strategy for making money, teach how to make money, etc. Newbies enter the crypto world naive, thinking they are predators, but they are just prey. That's how many warnings have already been written about this, but still, naivety does not go anywhere. Yes, on this forum, probably more was said about security than about bitcoin itself.

Beginners, remember, no one will ever share with you real methods of earning. Of course, there may be exceptions to the rule, but these exceptions only confirm this very rule. If you meet on your way some assistant who wants to help you make money, then he wants to make money on you. Nobody is interested in your personal earnings.

Among such paid schemes, I would include:

  • Any training to make money on cryptocurrencies
  • Crypto trading training
  • Cryptocurrency trading signals
  • Ready-made strategies for investing or trading
  • Trust management of your funds
  • Multiplication of cryptocurrencies
  • VIP channels where they share the secrets of investing and trading
  • Selling the GOLDEN GRAIL in earnings on cryptocurrencies
  • Wonder bot that generates profit by itself
  • ETC.

Understand that no one will share with you REALLY WORKING methods of earning money, they just want to make money on you, or it is corny to cheat, extorting money from you and hiding, without giving anything in return. Do not try to be smarter than others and buy a ready-made solution that some kind person from the Internet will share with you. These are all naive notions. The only one who can help you in making money on cryptocurrencies is YOU.

Every day, on the Internet and the forum, I see stories about how some user wanted to buy a ready-made solution for making money on cryptocurrencies and was deceived. You are trying to buy a non-existent thing, looking at it through the prism of naivety. This is just what the scammer needs. He makes money on your naivety and thirst for quick profit.

If what he is trying to trade (be it a super strategy for making money or a miracle bot that generates profit itself) worked, then why would he need you then? Ask yourself this question every time someone offers you to buy or invest your money in such a super product.

Think with your head, rely only on yourself, do not buy ready-made super solutions for earning, and then you will save your money and will not fall for the tricks of scammers. Thanks.

Being a newbie myself (I haven't started yet, so you could say I'm not even that), I couldn't agree more.
I've been researching, reading everything I can come up with, followed 5 different Udemy courses on cryptocurrency investing and trading, and doing anything I can do to be as self reliant as I possibly can.
One thing I would add  is: don't stop at one source. Get a second opinion, and a third, etc. It's your money, you gotta take care of it.

A couple of months ago, a former coworker of mine introduced me to crypto. He showed me a $1156 balance, on a $60 investment he had made a month earlier. Almost a 2000% profit in a month. That definitely got me interested, so I started digging.
Ever since, he got a hard-on for copy-trading, and thanks to that he's now down to $500. And no matter how many times I tell him to stop that crap, he's still happy because, in his view, "he's still making money".  Roll Eyes
Keep in mind the minimum wage in Argentina is about $400, so he would've made a bigger profit if he got the crappiest available job out there.

Some people just won't listen, they think they know better than anybody. All you can do is watch them go down with their ego...
296  Other / Politics & Society / Re: American Gun Ownership: The Positive Impacts of Law-Abiding Citizens Owning Guns on: December 03, 2021, 03:22:54 PM
Wow Cheesy I didn't know that I should just obediently trust that the government and all big corporations will be benevolent to me always and everything will be ok just like it is presently in North Korea, China and Afghanistan where people also CAN'T OWN GUNS .

Oh, no! Not at all. You should, however, obediently trust all the BS the NRA and breitbart choose to feed you, god forbid anybody would actually think you may have a brain, after all. Shocked
But, BTW, is that the best you can do? there are about 180 countries in the world, and all you can do is come up with 3 totalitarian countries (2 of them lead by fanatics) to prove your point?
Here. I'll provide you a list of countries where guns are forbidden or otherwise regulated. Take your pick: Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Germany, Finland, UK, Poland, Czech Republic, Japan, Greenland, Ireland, France, Spain, Greece, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Portugal, Uruguay, Turkey, Ecuador, Argentina, and a LOOOOONG list of countries. You're welcome.

The rifle by the way was provided by the US deep state operatives that wanted JFK dead and it wasn't some irate citizen as the guy who supposedly shot him hit the dust before they could fully question him. The deep state wanted JFK dead because he wouldn't play ball with them.

Sorry, I don't do conspiracy BS. If you have any proof whatsoever to substantiate your claims, show it. Otherwise, be as responsible as you claim to be, and stay silent.
In any case, it doesn't make a difference who provided the rifle. The fact that the law ALLOWED a lunatic to possess a rifle provided by anybody is the real problem here. Following your same line of thought, if a cop sees somebody carrying a rifle in one of the countries where they're regulated, it'd be his prerogative, and in fact HIS DUTY, to inquire about the legality of his situation, and eventually make an arrest. Meaning, in case you keep choosing to ignore reality, that Kennedy would probably have SURVIVED that day (your "deep state" BS notwithstanding).
By the way, YOUR PRESIDENT was killed in a country where everybody is "allowed to defend themselves". What happened? Didn't he have a right to "own and bear arms"? Why couldn't he "defend himself"?

Here is a very modern example of when a government takes guns from their people:

Taliban in Afghan capital Kabul start collecting weapons from civilians

https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/taliban-afghan-capital-kabul-start-collecting-weapons-civilians-2021-08-16/

What will happen next is that the Taliban will simple continue the tradition of tyrants that have taken weapons and commit genocide to their enemies just like Hitler did with the Jews and other dissidents, the Bolsheviks and Stalin did with anyone loyal to the Czar, and Mao did to those with those aligned with Chiang Kai-shek. They killed them and these people had no means to defend themselves.

Solidifying my prior point about criminals still obtaining military grade arms regardless of them being illegal:

VIDEO: Mexican Soldiers Allegedly Sold Weapons to Drug Cartel

https://www.breitbart.com/border/2021/11/28/video-mexican-soldiers-allegedly-sold-weapons-to-drug-cartel/

We need our guns to block the threat of tyranny when we lose our first amendment rights to speak out.

Again, is that the best you can do? Show us ONE country, out of the list I provided above, that's being run by a tyrant. Just one.

Here's a bit of a statistic for you: Today, out of about 180 countries in the planet, there are TWO (Yemen and the US) that allow unrestricted access to firearms to their citizens. Yemen is in the middle of a civil war, and the US has the HIGHEST RATES OF FIREARM RELATED MURDERS OF ANY DEVELOPED COUNTRIES, by more than 3 times (in the case of homicides) and almost twice (in the case of suicides), to Finland, that's in second place.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

By the way, my source is Wikipedia. Not as reliable as breitbart, I know, but I do what I can...
297  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Jews and Russians are one people on: November 30, 2021, 04:54:50 PM
Here's my theory: human beings are one people.

Based on all available science today, ALL humans on Earth belong to the same species (Homo Sapiens, although the "Sapiens" part could be debated), we all share a common ancestor, we all share the same genetic  information, and yada, yada, yada.

So, there. Where should I go to claim my Nobel price?

298  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some rebalancing questions. on: November 30, 2021, 04:08:43 PM
FatFork If you have a look in the Development and Technical Discussion board, you will see PLENTY of threads that have absolutely nothing to do with the development of bitcoin, or even to bitcoin.
Then again, I never complained about my thread being deleted. I said a heads up would've been nice.

jackg Yeah, it could've been moved. Whatever, it's not a big deal anyway.
My point is, if you want to automate rebalancing, you can easily set up a robot and follow a more carefully planned strategy. Blindly rebalancing based only on time seems kinda dangerous.
299  Other / Politics & Society / Re: American Gun Ownership: The Positive Impacts of Law-Abiding Citizens Owning Guns on: November 30, 2021, 03:53:14 PM

A non Gun control in the US is a risky policy that the US president should really look into, allowing citizens to move around with an unlicensed guns may result into an outlaw state where guns are used by criminals to harm others and can be traced.

What about other countries outside of the US that have banned guns altogether and yet the criminals still get their hands on said guns or even grenades? What is your theory on that? Here is my own the criminals will get their guns through other means anyway regardless if the guns/weapons are banned or not. So it is better to have an armed populace that can defend itself rather than one that has to wait on the response time of the police to hopefully save them. In the latter case things usually don't end too well for the victim.

It's a well known fact that criminals are everywhere, and they have no respect for the law. That's why they're criminals.
The difference is in a country that forbids its citizens to carry, ANYBODY packing is automatically breaking the law, which makes the cops' job a lot easier. In most of the US, they become criminals once they start shooting. THAT's my theory. YOUR OWN PRESIDENT (JFK) was slaughtered by an otherwise law  abiding citizen who "just happened" to be carrying a rifle nearby. Yet you guys don't learn.
Then again, AFAIK, nobody has ever talked about banning guns in the US. All that's being proposed is to run background checks on future gun owners, to decide if they're qualified to own a firearm. The US is the only country in the world that defends lunatics' right to kill its people.  Roll Eyes
300  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some rebalancing questions. on: November 25, 2021, 09:18:34 PM
What board was the topic posted on originally?

Development and technical discussion.

Rebalancing can cause regret the other way too if:
1. What happens if you get a flash crash as the coin is rising and you put it off for that time interval to get more? Or if you don't and it does go higher, how would you react to losing profits?
2. Rebalancing can be expensive, there's a few fees involved and it might not be worthwhile - I'd argue you're better off doing percentage based changes rather than time based.

Yeah, that's the thing. Which makes it all the more important to limit the rebalancing steps, not to mention rebalancing's inherent shortcomings (or potential shortcomings), which makes a bit too dangerous (in my opinion) to just automate the process on a pure time basis. My point is it may be better not only to combine both, but to add other safeguards (be it the ones I listed or some I surely missed), in order to minimize risk and/or maximize profit.
The point is a website that offer automated rebalancing on a time basis only seems a bit dangerous to me...
