Does Ripple let you issue your own personal currencies so friends can keep track of their debts to each other and such?

I had the impression Ripple was trying to move away from the original idea, and close everything down so only institutions and exchanges and banks and such could issue currencies?

That is why I chose Stellar over Ripple. It even seemed like Ripple's desktop client got deliberately broken or something so everyone had to use some web-based wallet or something like that so Big Brother could keep track of everything?

282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GRP] GRouPcoin on: January 14, 2018, 03:50:32 AM
In case anyone did not know, this coin is still running, and has been all along.

It is one of the assets traded on the Digitalis Open Transactions Server, so historic tables can be found at http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/digitalisassets.html

It is in fact one of the assets in terms of which other assets values are shown in those tables.

NOTE that its symbol is GRP, and it is NOT to be confused with the johnny-come-;ate;y GRC that idiotically used the same name ("groupcoin") without, evidently, checking whether the name was already in use.

To help folks interested in trading it I am issuing an asset named GRP on the Stellar network.

To utilise it set up a line of trust for the asset name GRP and issuing account GBHAQ252S4Z4AQOM4BWIRC3UHAOJIKCZQBUJGD336YH2O7W2NKRXMHA5

If your list of peers is out of date, addnode dvcstable01.dvcnode.org should enable you to get updated node addresses.

If you need source code for GRouPcoin you can download it through http://LFM.knotwork.com

The daemon claims there is no such command as splitthreshold.

What are the command-line commands to do coin splitting?

I do not see anything in the "help" output that seems to relate to that.

Also nothing about setting the split value you want to keep it splitting below a certain point.

I run the daemon, no GUI.

I have not been able to get staking to work.

I have "splitthreshold=500000000" as my unitedscifi.conf but there is no indication that any staking is happening at all.

Btw. who on earth just dumped 1.3 million QBT just before receiving his SCIFI? Insanity... Tongue

On November 11th someone somehow gained access to my email address and used "forgot password" to get int my exchange accounts and dumped all my coins, which was really bad for some coins where I was the primary market-maker. I do not know how they go into my email, they did it on Nov 2nd, so some dumping on some exchanges happened then, I told provider they said they couldn't do anything, and Nov 8th despite all precautions the hacker somehow got back in. Now I know why long after there should be no-one left with cheap coins of a given type to dump we still see crazy dumps: it probably happens every time a hacker gets into someone's email.

Although this does not seem to have been what happened to me, it is worth while taking nte of the fact that a popular method of hacking lately, due to so many sites telling people to set up a phone as "two factor" security, is to call the phone company and give some crazy sob-story about losing phone and asking he phone number to be switched over to the hacker's burner phone. They call hundreds of times if need be, until they get a phone staffperson stupid enough to fall for the story. So think twice before involving a phone in your financial security.

I think it must have gotten off track when checkpoint server was offline or something like that, as it had plenty of live nodes it was trying to connect to they just were so out of synch with it that either they hung up on it or it hung up on them until there were none left that would connect.

I restarted, maybe deletingt blockchain to let it get new one not sure now how drastic I was but whatever I did seemed to work.

Master Nodes provide services to the network, such as coin mixing and instant transactions; apparently the DiaMonD developers plan to add more services going forward.

Another nice thing is DiaMonD has Tor support built in, so you can be a seed or master node without a fixed IP address by being a Tor service.

What kind of mining does GPL use? Do you know of specific CPU miners that support it?

290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPL] Gold Pressed Latinum 2.8.1 - Hardfork 01 Feb 2017 on: October 28, 2017, 02:41:35 AM
Mining seems to be broken, I used to be able to slowly earn small amount of coins by having a few machines mining GPL, but having discovered that none of my machines have managed to mine any coins for a long time I investigated and found this in one of the logs:

ThreadRPCServer method=setgenerate
24 processors
Starting 0 BitcoinMiner threads

So it looks like even though that machine has 24 cores, the code is somehow failing to start any mining.

I had told it setgenerate true 2, which should have started two threads, to occupy tow cores.

What is going wrong?

Also if you are making a new coin, have it work like DiaMonD, with master nodes. ("Nagus Nodes").

DiaMonD has a number of improvements over the coins it was based on so might e a good codebase to use.

Maybe a good idea for Gold Pressed Latinum would be to migrate it to the DiaMonD codebase, and call the Master Nodes Nagus Nodes? POS-only, no more POW.

-MarkM-
May be in future, now if I swap coin to new codebase, Cryptopia delist GPL and new listing cost now 30000 usd.

Ouch! Well I guess GPL is doing just fine the way it is then! Smiley

I think maybe we should encourage sci fi type coin's users to get into HORIZON, it is generally regarded as abandoned so is a good fit for adoption not only be the Galactic Milieu but also by science fiction milieu coins in general, especially as it does look like the sci fi coins are going to be increasingly adopted by the Galactic Milieu.

In addition to using the HORIZON network, the STELLAR network (Lumens) is starting to look interesting, because it seems the Ripple-style networks (such as STELLAR) might let us form trading pairs of any asset against any asset, whereas with NXT-style networks such as HORIZON the network's native currency has to be part of each trading pair.

By the way, with all this work you keep on doing for the science fiction coins, you probably should qualify as a lifestyle free open source developer, to get a share of DeVCoins. It'd be nice if you'd do that as the more shares that go to real developers the less the kind of ridiculous amounts of shares being given for Devtome-wiki posts will impact the DeVCoin economy...

The swap blockchain is not moving, I tried to send on lump of 50 coins from one wallet to a new wallet to start cdonso9lidating coins, that was hours ago and it is still sitting at no confirmations so I cannot shut down and put in the next wallet I need to consolidate. Juat how many hours or days can we expect it to take per block?

If something not working, try use windows and compiled wallet.

That looks like the URL of the main distribution, did you change that so everyone who clones the coin now gets this special swap version?

I can't help with Ubuntu, but in windows leveldb compiled separate with different compiler, then compile QT itself.

There seems to be some fatal error about not being a .git repository, so is there some URL that I can use to git clone the thing instead of trying to use this apparently broken .tar.gz thing?

I use db-4.8.30.NC

db is just the wallet isn't it? The machine has that, most coins use it. These errors I have now are to do with leveldb not db.

Try change in file rpcrawtransaction.cpp:241
const CScriptID& hash = boost::get<const CScriptID&>(address);
to
const CScriptID& hash = boost::get<CScriptID>(address);

Yes I did that then ran into the leveldb problem mentioned above. The machine must have leveldb on it as it has been used to compile all coins for years.

300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] United SciFi Coin [SCIFI] PoW/PoS on: October 18, 2017, 07:48:55 PM
Well that is weird as I thought it was 1.59 that needed the fix.

I don't remnember exactly what happened in the past but I think my machines that had been upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 still had an old boost on them so could compile things that machines started from scratch at Ubuntu 16.04 could not.

It sounds like you must have already applied the fix but somehow my compile machine is choosing to try to compile against the old boost (1.58) even though presumably ever since it got upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 it must have a newer boost also.

Hmm. Well I guess I can try setting up compilers on a box that has never had an Ubuntu older than 16.04 on it and see if that works...

... It looks like something might be wrong with the source code .tar.gz, I made the boost fix and continued to compile and it said something about a fatal error due to the directory nor its parent directories being .git repositories, then a while later it died trying to reference stuff from leveldb. So I think maybe it had tried to grab a copy of leveldb and failed? Maybe the .tar.gz is missing some .git directories that tell it where to get a good copy of leveldb or something?

I could not see any URL from which to simply git clone the thing, that is why I am trying with the .tar.gz archive.
