Cypher - what was that good UK PSU you mentioned in another post somewhere?
A 1300w something...

EVGA 1300W G2 Supernova

But none in stock. You can order them from the EU EVGA store I believe

Nope just checked there too. Sad

I have good results with high end silverstone units as well

so i guess the neptunes are sold out? anyone have an extra one? lol

Flexgroo
I can sell you a preorder....  but it will be for a small profit.

Jumping the sinking ship already Phoenix1969? I'm shocked! Where is your loyalty to the company who gave you free boards?

Nah he's just missing his toys.

Estimated Position in Payout Queue
333.26938784 BTC are ahead in queue, putting this user's payout after a 13 block delay.

what happened with the payouts? 13 blocks are too much.

Mine just went through.

wizkid057,Luke-Jr,

Can you share instructions how to install bfgminer on KncMiner Jupiter? Temporarily or permanently?
https://github.com/luke-jr/bfgminer/blob/bfgminer/README.ASIC#L153

Posts on Github < https://github.com/luke-jr/bfgminer/issues/340 > indicate ongoing bfgminer issues with November Jupiter firmware - as far as I can see - so looks like I'm stuck with cgminer until KNC updates firmware?
There's a suggested workaround in that github issue until they fix it.
If anyone wants to share a known-working workaround patch, I can setup a branch to make it easier...

Any chance of getting a pre-compiled bfgminer like we can get for cgminer?

TSMC has already been making 20nm FPGA's in bulk for Xilinx since early November

Quote
20nm samples available just in time for Christmas!

Samples. You call that "in bulk"?

Lol true bad choice of word on my part,  but also some of the article is journalistic interpretation of the press release.

Plus a sample run for Xilinux is probably equivalent to KnCs entire 2013/2014 output Smiley

TSMC already announced 10's of designs in October ready for production in q1 who is to say that KnC is not one of them? Asics and fpgas are the ideal tech to prove the platform.
2806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 17, 2013, 05:47:54 PM
You do realize they started 20nm about three months ago?... and they said Q1/Q2.
Plenty of cushion IMHO

Doesn't matter if they started 10 years ago. A huge limitation to actually meeting such a date is TSMC's ability to deliver. They haven't yet ramped up 20nm production! TSMC has only taped-out a handful of 20nm designs so far. TSMC production is going to be very limited in Q1. If TSMC does get in a crunch, who are they going to deliver wafers to first, Apple or KnC?

You have to realise that compared to Apple's chips, GPU's from AMD and Nvidia & CPU's that ASIC's and FPGA's are very simple devices, and SHA256 ASIC's are simpler than most. TSMC has already been making 20nm FPGA's in bulk for Xilinx since early November, Xilinx are actually planning to tape out 16nm in Q1 2014 with TSMC. And TSMC are actually ahead of the game. See: https://www.semiwiki.com/forum/content/2927-xilinx-begins-shipping-tsmc-20nm-fpgas.html

Go knc go
But why not have installed extra ports at November Jupiter board???
How will do the upgraded

Jupiters are not designed to be upgraded, where do you put the boards inside a Jupiter? Upgrades are designed for Saturn/Mercury.
2808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 14, 2013, 03:47:25 PM
Of course it could be 5.5TH and BTC could be at $2K by then, who knows, who knew that KnC's 350GH/s Jupiter would end up at 650GH/s and BTC up from $100 to $1000?

BTC price doesnt enter the equation. Yes, I used dollar pricing, but only because electricity is still billed in dollars and to make it more clear how relatively insignificant 0.1W/GH better efficiency still is and will be for a while. ROI calculations should be done in BTC, and any fluctuation in the price would apply equally to all asic vendors. If anything if BTC price keeps going up, the energy efficiency would become even less important.

As for Neptune being 5.5TH; thats possible, but for BA Im going by nominal specs, they also promise overclockability to 2.1 GHz which would put the X3 at 2.7TH or 5.4 TH for 2 units at the same price as Neptune. NOt too much difference there either, even if Neptune ends up at 5.5TH.

Quote
But I've made back what I spent on my Oct batch

When you calculate your ROI in BTC?

I don't calculate ROI in BTC, I don't give a shit about it more than as an exchange mechanism really, if it ROI's in BTC then extra bonus in my books.

My October jupiter cost me cash, I've made more in $ conversion from BTC than it cost me, the Nov one has made its BTC back plus the extra cash, both are still bringing in a BTC ever couple of days and have paid for a Neptune as well.

This is a hobby for me, but a hobby that pays for itself and earns a tidy little sum on the side after paying for my entire electricity bill.
2809  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 14, 2013, 10:02:38 AM
Neptunes are down to 32/1200 left up for sell.

Seems they will have sold out 1200 x 12,995.00 = WOW

I dont quite understand that either. Even if people assume Neptune will do 4TH, BA prospero X3 would cost the same per TH and in all likelihood will be delivered  several months earlier.

Sure, Neptune might be more power efficient, but only if KnC delivers significantly better performance per watt than they claim and/or BA delivers worse performance per watt than they claim, because BA states 0.5 W per GH at the chip level (lets assume that works out to 0.7W at the wall) while KnC is saying 30% better than Jupiter. If Im not mistaken, Jupiter does around 1.1W/GH currently? A 30% improvement over that is ~0.8W. ON paper they are pretty much on par, with arguably BA having a slight advantage.

Even if you assume KnC will be one or two tenths of a watt more efficient per GH, if that is more important than mining several months earlier, then you are in trouble. @4000GH and $0.15/KWH, a 0.1W/GH better efficiency works out to 0.4KW * 0.15 = $0.06 per hour, or $43 per month. One day that will matter, but if that is significant next spring, and more significant than mining a few months earlier, good luck earning back those $13000.

Of course it could be 5.5TH and BTC could be at $2K by then, who knows, who knew that KnC's 350GH/s Jupiter would end up at 650GH/s and BTC up from $100 to $1000? Its a risky game thats for sure. But I've made back what I spent on my Oct batch and managed to mine enough to buy a Nov batch, which has also paid itself off, and a Neptune and still have coins in the bank after paying the electricity, so for me thats all good Smiley

1) The SeaSonic has two PCIe connectors one one cable.  Don't use two on one cable.   You should have 4 connectors plugged into the power supply itself (plus mother board and molex connectors).  That means you will have 8 PCIe connectors use only one from each pair.
That did the trick, thanks. The SeaSonic cable has 6 separate 12V lines coming out of 1 modular connector, which splits into 2 separate PCIe connectors with 3 12V lines each, so I had assumed it would be ok (the 12V lines are not shared). But apparently there is a power limiter in the individual output connectors coming from the PSU.

Figured it would be something like that.  Glad I could help.  Of course it helps that I had the exact same PSU and no problems.

Also I think KnC has been saying not to use the double plugs on pcie cables as well.

I'm just going to put this out there, but I got a gut feeling that if Hashfast deliver in December, and its looking like they will, depending on how "substantial" it is then KnC may do another batch of Jupiters. Cheesy

Their policy was not to produce any more batches in December 2013, January 2014 or  February 2014 unless any of their competitors add large amounts of hashing power to the network during the same period.

Hopefully, if they do, they will be comparable in price to their competition i.e. <$4K

I believe KNC is geared-up already and just waiting for the competition to release.

But... and here's the kicker... KNC will be shipping only Jupiters (no Saturns)from stock or with a very short build time.  Remember, no one else will be shipping orders made today until March/April at the soonest.  Therefore KNC will be pricing accordingly, easily double your $4000 guesstimate.

Bitfury did the same thing.  30GH/s boards were $500 two months ago but are now $1000 each.

Hash power today is worth MUCH more than hash power in 3 or 4 months.  And no, the cost to produce a product has no bearing on its price as long as there is a demand for that item.

Not sure really depends, Bitfury had zero competition (KnC had stopped shipping), they also had a LOT of people with semi populated rigs who need those extra blades.

By the time KnC does a January or February batch HF will have been in full swing with 500Gh/s BJ's at $2250 and there is a likelyhood that Cointerra & Blackarrow will be shipping and selling their $6K 2TH miners.

Of course its all dependent on "if" they ship.

Anyone else having KNC HW error issues willing to test this before its on the live server (dev server, still get full credit for work) shoot me a PM on IRC.

Will pop on IRC can test on dev

Let's be honest - the only reason knc are doing 20nm is to justify the ridiculous price.

I was thinking today.. I wish I'd had the spare funds a few months back to buy in when it was $100/btc.

Neptune would've cost me a grand ...

This is one reason why I enjoy the possibilities with bitcoin. Sure, the value fluctuates, but that can create some great opportunities for those already in it.

No but it would have cost you 120 BTC!!!!! OMG!!! THINK OF THE ChILDREN!!!
2815  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 13, 2013, 07:00:41 PM
It's Friday 13th, time for something spooky:

https://hashfast.com/hashfast-announces-fastest-bitcoin-mining-chip-in-the-world/

500GH/s on a single chip.

And they expect to get more.

If they can get it up to 750GH/s (i.e. 3TH/s on 4 boards), they will have acheived now what KNC are promising 7 months from now  Grin

Wierd, why you are happy?

If you had bought a batch one hashfast rig I think you'd be as bitter towards them as you are towards other companies. Have you read the HF thread?

Also 4 boards Huh - they only do a one board machine (BabyJet), a two board machine (BabyJet+Upgrade) and a three board machine (Sierra). There is no 4 board machine, unless you buy boards wholesale and build your own.

Lastly, just a slight correctection, Neptunes are "at least" 3TH, given that from initial expectations to final result the Jupiter machines went from 350GH to 650GH there is some small expectation that they will over deliver again.

Anyone have any idea why all my Jupiters change their IP addresses even though they are setup for static.
I set them all like this and a few hours later a random miner get a different IP, I change it back, then another miner gets a different IP and so on.

No idea but you may want to look into DHCP reservation as a work around.  Most routers support it and honestly once you get it down you will never go to static IP addresses again.  Many enterprise grade networks use it because it simplifies management.

Set all the Jupiters to use DHCP and then in your router there should be a section on DHCP reservation.  In the router you assign a particular network device (PC, mining rigs, printers, etc) a particular IP address.

So the jupiter boots up contacts the router (DHCP server) and always get the same IP address assigned by DHCP.  The nice thing is all the config is done in the router so the device only needs to support DHCP.

Excellent info DT

DHCP reservations use the MAC (or "hardware") address of the device that needs the reservation, this should be displayed as part of the DHCP assignments, depending on the dhcp server you are running.

Anyone have any problems running the Nov. jupiters from EVGA G2 1300w? I had 2 shut off last night for no discernible reason, except that they both use the same EVGA psu. I have 4 other jupiters using the same PSU... so don't understand.

Is it one of the recalled EVGA PSUs or is it a newer one?  I think the cutoff was October.

Hmm.. going to check mine

PSU Quality might be variable, I had a brand new G2 1300 and it popped the moment I turned on the Nov Jupiter, getting it RMA'd now, replaced it with my Silverstone 1500W backup and it didn't skip a beat. Nearly shat myself though, it really popped loud, thought I'd blown a capacitor in the Jupiter, but its been fine.

EU and Switzerland have special agreements, there is zero import duty when buying from Switzerland for computer parts or systems. Just VAT to pay.

Yup but 20% (for me in the UK) is a fair slice of the overall cost

Yup but that's true of everything, there isn't a way around it, you'd have to pay VAT even if it was being sold to you from a company in the UK.
2820  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official BITMINE CoinCraft series 28nm ASIC miners thread on: December 12, 2013, 06:04:04 PM
hey guys, how and when do you pay taxes for this devices from bitmine.ch? will i receive it at home if i only order the device ?
If you are importing (i.e. you don't live in Switzerland where Bitmine is based) then you need to pay whatever import duty/tax that your country charges on imported goods.

You will need to check with Customs in your country for the details.  In New Zealand, the import duty is the same as GST (which is 15%).  Customs won't release the unit until you pay them 15% of the declared price.  They also inspect it to ensure that it is not an illegal or prohibited good.  So plan for a delay at Customs - allow a week (if it's less then you're lucky).

it this still a problem if i live in Europa?

EDIT: Never mind i just found out that Switzerland is out of europa -.-
It's outside European Union but in Europe that's for sure Wink

Yea but you got my point  Cool
