What if they DDoS to buy cheaper? Does this make any sense?
Price always increases just before we have an attack..

2808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code on: December 24, 2013, 09:08:06 PM
WTF?

Hi

It's a webapp with a bit of code that appears to manage the block chain.

It's a Java servlet that runs in a servlet container

What is the P2P protocol used?  What is on the payload?

JSON over HTTP with custom protocol. Set "communicationLoggingMask" to "7" in nxt/webapps/root/WEB-INF/web.xml to see all the payload.

How are peers discovered?

Each node has a set of well-known peers (listed in web.xml and easily changed by a user). Upon a launch a node connects to these peers and gets other peers via "getPeers" request.

Are people actually investing real money on this prototype?

Yes, but this is not a prototype.

Too many open questions.

Feel free to ask all of them.

Well, lucky for the folks who invested 21 BTC to own all of the coin!

This is impossible to launch a secure 100% PoS currency without distribution of all coins at once.

Code like bitcoinj (written in java) doesn't even cover wallets and mining and its like 20 times bigger than the code we find here for NXT.

Coz bitcoinj is an application, in Nxt most of the work is done by the container (Jetty)

Is this a complete joke?

No. This is an innovative cryptoplatform where payment transactions is just 1% of all the features.

I don't see any specialized libraries for networking (i.e. Protobuf etc).

Coz most of the work is done by the container (Jetty) and Java Virtual Machine.

So it actually is a centralized currency?

What is the distributed consensus mechanism?  What prevents attack?

I mean,  anyone can implement similar by grabbing a open transaction server and issuing 100 million coins.

Oh well!!!

Suckers born every minute.

You are lucky stupidity is centralised as a callus on your brain and it can be removed easily!

Nxt mentioned in Coindesk article. First ever media coverage?

Quote
Although many of the other cryptocurrencies are based on the Bitcoin protocol, not all are; the protocol for nxt, the cryptocurrency with the fourth-largest market cap, was written from scratch in Java.

Bubble incoming!

Are we ready for the next wave of zombies attack?

4. I think the new QT with bitcoin trading in the Nxt client would be awesome. Nxt could act as a bank where as bitcoin the cash we carry around (hence we don't carry a tons of cash around, as most of our money is in the bank). Since bitcoin network is vulnerable to 51% attacks. So a future usage of both these cryptos can act as a bank and spending money?

Sorry, but there can be only one. Bitcoin or Nxt, not both.

wow, it is THAT serious then, eh? Smiley

my idea is, a few coins can co-exist, just like there are many brands of cars, many brands of wine, etc.
and compete on a healthy basis, of course there'll always been some maniacs trying to compete unfairly.

I'm not against Bitcoin. Bitcoin early adopters r against Nxt.
AND miners AND big investors - I bet SecondMarket and Winklesvie are not very happy to see what's coming NXT...

BTC deposits: 0%

NXT cashouts: 0%

BTC cashouts: 1.4% min. 0.0005 BTC

@CFB

attackers have stopped or we just fuck them with new Ddos protection?

No idea. May be just Xmas?

Edit: I think we fucked them, my node still feed zombies at 100Mb/s rate.
So was it the DOS filter?
2813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DGEX.com multicurrency exchange BTC <-> NXT no trading fees on: December 24, 2013, 05:24:24 PM
Well I'm not the author of NXT nor American.

I'm the founder of DGEX and nextcoin.org, and this thread concerns DGEX the exchange, not the viabilitiy of NXT itself.

Regardless, I don't see suggested scam anywhere. I only see pouring out negativity arising from hesitation / envy / lack of courage or resources.

This does not answer my question.

If you're not the founder of NXT, then you may be holding a large stake in it (maybe you were given a lot of NXT just for the job and to keep quiet), and by creating these websites you're 'pumping' it'.

Now cause the coin is gaining on popularity (cause of false inflated prices as shown in the websites made by NXT holders), it may be listed in more popular exchanges and have a good price..

More suspicious is the fact that you made a separate exchange instead of requesting the existing ones to add the coins possibly cause they refused to artificially inflate the prices (or duping investors).

These sound like harsh questions, but these are real serious questions which need to be answered in order to prove the coin is not a scam. After I'm satisfied, I may invest.
Since when it is unreasonable for someone to launch an exchange? Cut the crap please!

How can an exchange prove btw that it is not doing dirty tricks?
I mean how r u sure that cryptsy, btc-e (let me laugh), bter, the second biggest chinese exchange which name I forget and inflated LTC BTC prices, and not let me even start about mtgox..

But I will save you some time mate because I like you, NxT is an elaborate scam move elsewhere (maybe Dogecoin or Quark Wink ) and don't waste your time and money here...

Basically what you're saying here is that -- "I trust Jane to make me an ASIC miner instead of AMD/Intel/Nvidia, that's why put my money on her." But still I'll answer.

Because they're large exchanges; the probability of them doing such a scam is less. People trust them. Their business is large, they require large payments in bribery which's something hard to do.

Starting your own exchange to do the dirty tricks on it is easier.
So BTC-e and MtGox and BTC24 were big - why do they still scam people (the first two)?

When did I say they're scamming? Bitcoins were traded for real $s, that puts it under the law (tax and all) and it make it very hard to scam.

But dgex is completely virtual.

Quote
I would say it like this: we have no regulations, ALL of them will do dirty tricks, size is irrelevant...

Size is relevant --

That said I think it is ok to trade small amounts @dgex and NXT is not to blame, as Bitcoin is not to blame for MtGox or LTC for BTC-e...

dgex exists for the purpose of NXT and you're saying they're not related? For some reason you cannot imagine the fact that the founder of NXT and dgex have agreed to inflate the prices.

Yeah one thing -- the trade history should be made public and the trades should correspond to the transactions in the block explorer.

But there's no list of buy and sell orders even, it's just a graph of the prices.
No comment - you are so naive sorry.

Name one system where rich don't get richer.

Freicoin. Smiley

Qubic. But this is another story.
If you add anonymous minting and anonymous transactions COMPULSORY FOR EVERYONE + distributed Qubic/FIAT exchange then I am a believer!!

I wish NXT had these features...
2815  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 24, 2013, 04:52:51 PM

It depends on your NXT holdings. The more you have the more you earn. It's making rich richer. No joke.

That's the exactly the same for any investment that pays interest. The more you have invested, the more you receive.

Yes, but that's exactly what makes the current system flawed. Isn't it? Richer get richer, poorer get poorer.

No, this is incorrect.

The rich get richer easier than the poor. The "poor" still earn NXT. It's just less noticeable.

Basically like in the real world. Not just, not fun, but basically a fact of life.

If you come into cryptocoins to get rich without investing (be it money, time, efforts or ideas) you will not succeed.

In the long run it will create NXT oligarchs and the rest - the paupers.

I'm not using Windows but I suppose that you need to put it in the command line window (Start/Run/cmd). The -Xms and -Xmx aren't necessary but should help with memory allocation.

I have changed the start.bat to "java -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -jar start.jar". Now when I open 7875, and unlock, a new address appears, with balance 0Nxt, and the last block is 23923.

Have you done that in new folder and with 0.4.4 version?

Yes, it's 0.4.4 version.

In new folder?

Yes, I deleted the previous Nxt folder and unzipped a new one.

Then I don't know.  Huh
Like always does - until there can be only one (Singularity).

Only chance is if the Singularity is 666 and Jesus come-from-beyond to kick his ass!!

Merry Christmas!! lol

Communism failed long time ago..

What's NXT?  Wink

Usury capitalism is failing right now.
US failing <> capitalism falling.

If you think that only the US is failing you're terribly wrong, my friend.
NXT = real capitalism (free markets)
Modern capitalism = state capitalism (EU, US, China), stronger than ever! Rich get richer and richer and richer...
What fails is the illusion of real capitalism IMO..

Yeah, "real" capitalism is like "real" communism. It never existed anywhere and never will.
I have a dream! lol

It reminds me of Kurzweil (I know I know..):
To the question if God exists I like to answer - 'Not yet!'
