Ethereum's Ropsten Testnet Set to 'Merge' Today
The Ropsten public testnet, Ethereum (ETH)'s longest-lived proof-of-work (PoW) testnet that allows for blockchain development testing before deployment on the mainnet, is expected to go through The Merge in a matter of hours.

2802  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GAMING PC AND MINING? on: June 08, 2022, 11:33:39 AM
Your 1660ti should give you 30-32MH not 27MH, that's the type of hashrate you should get from a normal 1660 non ti and non Super, it's because you aren't using the right configuration or OC combinations. Use Trex miner and lock the core clock to 1300 using Hive OS and meme clock 1600-1900.

I didn't realize that! I was using Nicehash miner. Is there any possibility that Nicehash is stealing some of the powers from the hardware? I will try the Trex miner and the configuration you've shared here if I decide to go back to mining again. As of now, I have completely stopped mining as I use my laptop for other activities like gaming and graphics design. Also I believe, if I start mining full time, it will ruin the hardware over a period of time as laptops are not really that well built to handle a huge amount of heat for a longer period of time. Thanks for the tip though!
If your laptop is a gaming laptop then it's good for mining, the only thing you shouldn't do is mining 24/7 on a laptop, gaming is a huge workload just as mining too but continues mining won't be safe for a laptop so you can get away with few hours mining per day.
Why mine on a laptop 2 hours a day?
A very small profit, and this has not been profitable for a long time, because the shortage of video cards is over.
I am also against mining on laptops, but if it is profitable for you and the warranty service will repair the laptop, then mining is possible ..

RTM(Raptoreum) or TRX(Tirex Network)
These are shit coins, do yourself a favour and go after useful projects, we have Flux, Kadena, Firo, Ergo and others and you are talking about Raptoreum and Tirex Network?/

The true story of this guy who could have been a millionaire if he waited just a big longer is my main lesson nowadays every time I think of selling coins or selling part of their rigs.
If I had held half my DOGE from 2013-2014 and sold, I would've ended up with $220k
If I held half my ETH from 2016, I would've ended up with $100k

I finally learned my lesson, bought a portfolio of coins in late 2018 and built a GTX 1060 rig in 2019 for just $140 per card. It was all I could afford after my warehouse went bankrupt. That rig paid for itself 5-6x over and I got a 9x return on my coins.

This time, I will mine with a dozen rigs during this bear market regardless of how bleak the future looks for GPU PoW. I don't care if they make zero profit for 3 years in a row.
Then very few people knew about cryptocurrency. In 2015, the Radeon HD 7970 video card brought several Ethereum coins per day, but the coin price was very small. There are a lot of miners now and it is very difficult to earn a similar profit

I am trying to install The HiveOS software on an L3++ but it keeps saying "Installer Not Signtured!!!".  I flash remsig_for_L3_Hiveon.tar and it runs through.  When it reboots and I try to flash the Hiveon software again it will say 404 not found.  If I try it enough times it will just say "Installer Not Signtured!!! again.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here?  Huh Huh

2806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How bad can it get? on: June 05, 2022, 04:55:55 PM
But this does not solve the performance problems of other projects and smart contracts. Even if the developers turn off the difficulty bomb in the new fork, this exchange coin will not be listed for trading and the miners will not work at a loss.
Forked or not, the bottom line will be that Vitalik & Co.'s PoS chain will retain the vast majority of its market cap. The PoW chain will be almost worthless, like $50 per Ether if we're lucky. Best case, it becomes like the ETC fork back in 2016 or BCH in 2017.

But regardless, 90%+ of the total block reward available to GPU miners will vanish overnight, and no rig will be profitable except at free power. Even if the PoS chain ran into a major bug and they want to go back to PoW, that would still destroy confidence in ETH, meaning mining profit would crash by 90% anyway.

The only possible outcomes of PoS are PoS wins, PoW loses or PoS loses, PoW loses. There is no scenario where PoW wins.
in 2016, smart contracts were just starting to be launched, and because of the hacking of the most famous smart contract, a fork appeared.  Now it's a huge system that can't be cloned. Miners will look for other coins, but they will not be happy with the profit.
2807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How bad can it get? on: June 04, 2022, 11:54:29 AM
Well the reason why ETC worked is because the difficulty bomb wasn’t anywhere close. So that’s why the old chain could of survived by a single miner since unlike BTC the retarget difficulty is much quicker.

If some people decide to mine the old ETH chain then there will be no point because it’ll basically hit the difficulty bomb shortly after and the chain will be unusable. This was the point of the difficulty bomb pretty much.

So nobody will buy the new token because they know that’s the chain will eventually stop unless some dev takes over and removes the difficulty bomb like ETC did.
But this does not solve the performance problems of other projects and smart contracts. Even if the developers turn off the difficulty bomb in the new fork, this exchange coin will not be listed for trading and the miners will not work at a loss.
2808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What to do in a bear market on: June 04, 2022, 11:50:29 AM
In a bear market should one be buying graphic cards or one should be buying coins instead?.
Now is a bad time to buy video cards because they are still expensive. It is probably better to wait for the news about the end of ethereum mining and buy a mining farm at a good price. But this is provided that 1 kilowatt costs no more than 6 cents.

This is a great example of why I'm so proud of @optimismPBC for adding non-token governance (the Citizen House).
Optimism explicitly has goals *other* than just "make OP go up", and the only way to do that long-term is with explicit representation of non-token-holder interests.

33.5 Mh/s at 63W.
Wow, that is an excellent efficiency. The best I can get is 61.6 Mh @ 129w on the best of my RX 6800 cards. I am moving to an area with cheap power (9¢ residential, 5-6¢ commercial) which has the biggest Bitcoin farm in the world. I think I can buy cheap video cards after ETH PoS, mine on altcoins and stay profitable until the next gold rush.

Using PhoenixMiner 6.2c on Debian bookworm/testing:
GPU1: ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT (pcie 45), OpenCL 2.0, 8 GB VRAM, 32 CUs
GPU1: 43C 28% 62W
GPU1: cclock 900 MHz, cvddc 743 mV, mclock 1169 MHz, Tj 48C, Tmem 68C, 542 kH/J
GPUs power: 62.0 W; cost: 0.52 USD/day; 542 kH/J
Current -gt 15

ASRock Radeon RX 6600 XT Challenger Pro 8GB OC, not available anymore in the Netherlands. You could try the ASRock Radeon RX 6600 XT Challenger D 8GB OC as that should have more or less the same performance main difference is my videocard is 3 fans and the other one a 2 fan.
The RX 6600 XT is a very cold graphics card and it would not be a mistake to buy such a graphics card with 2 fans.
This does not affect the profit and hashrate, but the quality of the fans and the cooling system is very important.
2812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Good plan? on: June 03, 2022, 06:45:35 PM
Experienced miners don't think about selling or stopping mining when profits are close to zero. I also lost some money on trading and investing in various projects, and mining has always brought me good profits. But there are a lot of miners and the profit is falling.
2813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How bad can it get? on: June 03, 2022, 06:40:56 PM
Do you seriously think that someone can create a coin that can use at least half of the Ethereum hashrate and it will be profitable for mining?
An ethereum fork will not solve this problem and ethereum classic already exists.

They will make an eth fork and preserve pow on that fork, I wonder how long that will work, price will be at lowest.
And how will all smart contracts and other related projects like Matic work? I think it is very difficult to implement and this fork will be useless due to many problems, because ethereum related projects will not support it.
2814  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Malfunctioned 3080lhr hiveos on: June 03, 2022, 06:35:30 PM

I had updated the nvidia drivers, they are the ones that crashed the 3080 so I went back to the old one and it works. what drivers do you recommend me to use?
Use the drivers recommended by the miner developer. Perhaps you have other errors that occurred when installing new drivers. Before installing new drivers, use Display Driver Uninstaller DDU to remove old drivers.

I don't think DDU works on HiveOS (Linux)  Wink
If a beginner has learned to update drivers for hive OS, then he is well done. I'm used to the fact that beginners use Windows, so I recommend this software.
Try it on hive os, this version works great for my comrades.

Wonder how 2022 will be. If it goes POS then I am pretty sure it will be an instant capitulation for every miner.
If there's a recession at the end of this year in the U.S., along with ETH PoS, that will create the perfect storm. The capitulation phase would be a lot quicker than late 2018. Merge block number announced, then everything goes to 'hehell'. In a matter of days, video card prices crash from +10% MSRP to -30% MSRP. They eventually end up at half of MSRP. AMD cards suffer more because they are more tied to mining. where RTX 3090 prices could dive as low as $400.

No GPU coin will be profitable even at 2 cent power for a while. When the panic phase is over, I think we will see similar profit levels to early 2019. Certain video cards like the RTX 3000's might have a 3-4 year payback time, while others are 10 years. The market will remain in that limbo state until/if another GPU PoW coin goes big. You'll still be able to make a 30% or so return per year if power costs 8 cents.
Do you seriously think that someone can create a coin that can use at least half of the Ethereum hashrate and it will be profitable for mining?

2817  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GAMING PC AND MINING? on: June 02, 2022, 05:35:59 PM
Hey everybody
is it a wise idea to use my gaming pc for mining?
i am thinking of buying a mining rig but i want to wait till August and you all know the reason
and in the meantime i am thinking of using my PC for mining for a few months
i have a GeForce 1050 TI using nicehash for mining
any ideas for coins/pools or solo mining are welcome
Well, torture your video card for 20 cents of profit per day.
https://whattomine.com/gpus/31-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti?cost=0.05&cost_currency=USD
If you are learning how to set up mining software, then use this opportunity for August.

Well, earning and learning don't necessarily go together. Wink Why demotivate someone if he wants to learn more...
How long does it take to learn to start mining on a computer with 1 video card? For mining, you need to buy a mining farm or build it yourself, then the beginner will get more useful experience.1050 ti is an old video card, before mining you need to change the thermal paste and check the condition of the thermal pads.
2818  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What else on: June 02, 2022, 05:29:17 PM
I have a 3080 graphic card that wont displayed on the monitor, I tried few Hdmi cables like 2.1 and the old HDMI but no display still, the funny thing is I can get display straight from fhs the motherboard only or if I insert a older GPU like 1060 I get a display, what should I look into next.
In the BIOS of the motherboard there is an option Graphic Adapter Priority, where you can select the GPU priority - built-in or discrete GPU. You may have an old motherboard that does not recognize the new RTX 3000 series graphics cards.
2819  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Good plan? on: June 02, 2022, 05:21:08 PM
Does it make sense to sell 40% of your mining rigs and keep the money for direct crypto investment and continue mining with the 60% left? How good or bad is this plan? also, It looks like miners are staying stronger this period, I expect many to have left mining but difficulty still remains very high.
If you have already paid off your mining farms, then this is probably a good plan if you have expensive electricity and cannot compete with other miners. And if you bought your equipment expensively and have not paid back yet, then know that miners always paid off mining equipment if they continued mining.
2820  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: MSI 1080 hashrate problems please help on: June 01, 2022, 02:06:41 PM
1080 graphic cards aren't a good choice for mining anymore, leave the old cards be for PC gamers because that's the best a 1080 graphic cards can do right now, they are still 1080p display champions.
Thats not true , if you have a 1080Ti with 11 GB Ram its still a good card for mining for a few Algos.
I bought mine straight after the Card was released i guess 5 or 6 years ago or something around that time , and it still mine without any problems.
Depends what 1080 Versions you have for sure , and old Cards dont wanted anymore for PC Gamers , they want also the best and new cards.
Many gamers dont care about new graphic cards, a 1080ti is still a beast of PC gaming till date, you only need to play graphical demanding titles in a lower resolution like 1080p, I am sure that the card can still push 40fps to 60fps easily at high graphic settings.
This user thinks GeForce 1050 TI is a gaming graphics card.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5400625.0
I think that for most gamers, the GTX 1070-GTX 1080 Ti analogs will be a very good solution, because they cannot buy expensive video cards for themselves or they do not need high settings in games.
