2801  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: First Rig - LTC - Seeking Input on: April 09, 2013, 03:22:05 AM
I wasn't aware that there would be a stock CPU cooler. I will remove correct that.
only OEM CPUs don't come with cooler.
Is there some way to tell how much ram is required per kh/s?
2 5850s @ 700 kh/s (concurrency 5600) only uses 50 mb in cgminer.

The open-air rig looks awesome, but I really don't have the time to build one of those. How do you suppose I station the cards without using a case?
put all the component at the bottom of the box, and suspend the video cards from the top using string+sticks. You'll definitely need extenders/risers for this though, but using this configuration allows for more space between the cards for better cooling. speaking of extenders, if you plan on using them, you don't need an expensive motherboard. all you need is one with enough pice slots (any width, even x1).

why do you need 8 gb of ram? cgminer barely uses 50 MB when mining (scrypt) on 2 cards.

When you set thread concurrencies to >8192 it uses tons of ram (usually about 1.5 GB per 7950) unless that has been fixed in 2.11.4
I'm using thread-concurrency 6500 on 2 cards, and it's only 50 mb for both. So unless memory usage grows exponentially with thread-concurrency, the memory usage shouldn't be that high.
2803  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: First Rig - LTC - Seeking Input on: April 09, 2013, 02:21:22 AM
you don't need that much ram, 2x5850s only uses 50 mb on cgminer
you don't need a cpu cooler, the stock one is just fine (unless you want to go passive cooling)
you don't need a case, just put it in a plastic storage box
you don't need a super expensive gold PSU. there are less efficient ones with comparable outputs for $150 or less.

Finally. Now lets find 5 more to make up for how much I've lost.

Yeah, no joke. I’m back on coinotron. What's the point of 0% fees when the payout after 24 hours happens to be 0...
you can't into probability.

yeah, sure... how exactly did you calculate that and what was your school grade in probability calculus?

I am getting ready to buy my first Bitcoins, should buy now or wait a week?

What are your opinions?
Uh, I remember a thread on this a week ago.

2810  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Let'me get mining straight on: April 08, 2013, 03:26:27 PM
good point. Forgot about coinbase!

Above all, it means that what i said before was only valid for each solo/pool individually, not the entire network.

But is it currently being also used as another degree of freedom? I cant eve see how can it be changed...

if you change the merkle tree in any way (add, delete, or reorder transactions), you also get new hash.

ya, but that's all reaper, not cgminer...

2813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / vircurex/btc-e: why are the withdraws so expensive? on: April 08, 2013, 01:50:13 AM
Vircurex, btc-e: why does it cost me 0.01 BTC to make a withdraw? the transaction fee for "spam" transactions isn't even that high, and you only pay 0.0005 BTC tx fee on the transaction.

2815  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: CGMiner - Disparate graphic cards on: April 08, 2013, 01:38:06 AM
each card's clocks can be set independently of each other. there is no reason to run separate instances for each card. for example, to configure clocks for multiple gpu, you can use
"--gpu-engine 900" to set 900mhz for every card, or "--gpu-engine 900,850,875" to set 900mhz for card0, 850mhz for card1, 875 for card2, etc.
2816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Update Bitcoin-qt = lost coins on: April 08, 2013, 01:34:22 AM
1. make a backup of your %appdata%\bitcoin\ directory
2. install latest version of bitcoin (0.8.1)
3. delete everything in %appdata%\bitcoin\ except for wallet.dat
4. wait for the blockchain to sync

if you don't see any coins, check all your addresses on https://blockexplorer.com/ to see if they contain any balance.
2817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin QT on Rasperry Pi? on: April 08, 2013, 01:30:24 AM
issues with pi:
  • low memory
  • slow disk access, plus you will wear out your SD card. further compounded by lack of memory to use as cache
  • slow cpu, which is problematic when syncing blockchain
2818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Litecoin miner and mining pool on: April 08, 2013, 01:27:08 AM
because the averaging period for your pool is longer than your miner
2819  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850 Core speed on: April 07, 2013, 08:08:04 PM
depending on your card, you can go up to 950 mhz without any voltage adjustment. just use cgminer (which has built-in overclocking without limitations). please note that above 850 mhz, the card may be unstable for anything other than 2D/mining, so don't run any games, or use aero mode.
