2821  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: September 07, 2014, 03:16:40 PM
I'm not against the raspberry i have one , but i don't see why its so slow at times wouldn't you just be better off using a mobile phone etc to control it all i played with one for hours and really saw no reason why the big deal a raspberry over a PC or phone,  when  a good ole windows or Linux PC or  phone can do better . i even asked the dev they told kind of told me  they are some what out dated . ( raspberry that is ) .
I am not a Raspi-boi, but they are ridiculously cheap and use next to no power compared to a "good ole" PC, whatever OS it is running.
Getting USB miners recognised and connected under Windows is a game of chance, whereas Minepeon has accepted all of mine immediately.
I am running miners on both a Raspi and a Epia Mini-ITX Linux box (Arch Linux/bfgminer on a 900 MHz CPU), I haven't really noticed either being particularly slow - what sort of slowdown are you seeing? Web interface, bfgminer text display...?
As for using a mobile (smart) phone to control your miner.. well if you have one to spare then you're lucky - but it's a little difficult to imagine running a miner controller on one (though you can actually mine with the CPU).

WEbb or GUI  part its so slow CPU  uses goes up to 100 % fast etc I've  update everything with putty I'm not against its a really nice idea i just don't  see it working for me . i do like the idea of a very small PC monitoring and controlling it all. but i won't give up but also won't go out of my way and spend hours tiring to run some thing that in the end needs a major update to our times four cores etc or a way to add more  memory , upgrade the CPU etc etc  .. but I won't give up on it just don't see it right now . btw I'm  waiting for the new MinePeon to come out that supports the B+ version or ver 2 not the beta MinePeon. maybe then . seems the 2.4.6 there is no  network or USB acess yet that i saw beta has it . much  rather use  the finally version unless i missed the new one some place ..

or I'm just doing some thing wrong i have not discovered yet and I have done a lot of  research and goggling on it with no luck My USB sticks with miner on them run faster and better then this did .

I'm not talking the ant U#  or bitfury etc with a USB hub.  with the software on a USB stick but there's that problem again a PC .

i have yet to have any issue setting up any antminers u # or bitfurys etc in windows it's when i try to combine one that uses a diff driver then the  other uses that it starts to be a bear but i do it . why i want to use this  as you said no issue setting up the miners. so I'll wait and see how the next release of Minepeon comes to gather.

as for power Ive never really had a problem with power in my house being to high, bill wise but if i  can avoid using a PC for anything more then gaming or email or web searches hell yea  why not  i was hoping for this and anything  saved is all ways Anything earned

well any way I'm off

Happy mining

2822  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Spiceminer's Ant Viewer - SAntViewer v1b - Antminer s1 & s2 monitoring - BETA on: September 07, 2014, 02:24:14 PM

really I'm just making this for fun and I use it. Its been running non stop for days now without problems on my netbook I used at my farm.

I own a software company and am partners in a couple more, and I want to break into some cryptocurrecy related software market.

I've in development of a automated escrow SaaS website. But it'll be slow because its a lot of work and trying to fit it into my already very heavy workload is difficult.

this antviewer is quick and easy and fun. Plus I really needed it with my farm

Why not contribute to one of the several existing Open Source projects that already do what you are doing instead of re-inventing the wheel? There are plenty of existing, widely used projects (like my own which you could have contributed to) that need the help of contributors.

I just don't get why so many bright devs are intent on re-inventing the wheel...lots of the "not invented here" syndrome  Sad

yup this one works no bugs etc  yet and i trust him so far .  i really like this one over the other one not that the other one  is not good this one is much better .

I plan to send a donation once i can for this one .

2824  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: antminer S1 upgrade kits on: September 06, 2014, 12:36:20 AM
have to agree why would anyone want to put the  old ones back up and run in i bought three S1 really cheap so i could upgrade them and thrash the rest .

from what i read it may have a case if not i have some custom cases i use now that will work just fine.

that should work on the S3 upgradel or just  cut your own or have them cut Smiley .

Nothing a piece of cardboard and duct tape won't do...

From reading the description of the upgrade kit, the heat-sinks from the S1 blades get transferred to the new S3 blades.

I've been tinkering with some S1 blades and the pencil mod to see how low voltage and clock rate effects the chips, PITA yet easier than trying to replace those tiny resistors!

I have them solo mining with a local instance of bitcoin after learning the ropes of rolling OpenWrt and cross compiling, that was uber fun!!

I plan on adding some precision pots that allow adjustments on the fly to see what happens, have them at ~0.75V with the pencil mod, chips fault at that low a voltage.

There is a thread about chaining more than two S1/S3 blades, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=671128.0

Shouldn't there be a Hacker/Maker child board under Hardware here for consolidating this type of information rather than having this hard to find information scattered throughout numerous threads...just a thought.

8 )

That is temping have heat sinks custom made etc keep them run until they are really useless its so temping and the fun . The more i think about it i may just for the fun .  so I'm  gonna watch that thread.

can anyone direct me to a good guide I want to learn to how to solo mine  for fun i did some searches really could not fine to much  step by step wise .

In a good guide form.

www.miningpools.info/solo-mining/

This guide should help you out. If you need any additional help send me a PM. cheers

thanks man it helped me i was able to see it done with my  video card and antminer u2 , that's  all i wanted to know .

I did try with my S1 that's whole diff story atm I'm not ready to do.
I did find a guide for a ant s1 that's a real pain but I'll do it one day, just to do it   (down time to learn how etc have to install Linux over windows atm I don't feel like installing it  on any of my  PC or even dual boot. maybe my PI I'll try it on later  ) .

cya  happy mining.

2827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ANTMINER L1 scrypt miner on: September 05, 2014, 09:00:52 AM
This should be in another section under alt coin mining...
And I think this is fishy. When it seems to good to be true, it probably is

I trust bit main its from there site and its hardware not meant for the alt coin site .

but that's me if they want to move it there its there call but it is new hardware on bitmain site  Smiley.

and i have yet to read were they didn't come thu or ripe anyone off .

in fact i went with S1 and S3 after doing a lot of reading they are so far the best ones out there I've seen.

Ps i changed the name of the post so it  fits as hard ware .... Smiley .

solo mining does consume huge amounts of electricity, but if you are rich enough, things will be different, good luck!

Just want to know on intention of doing it because of the cost and the down time when mining pools gets me faster rewards but maybe not as good as solo,  just want to know.

and being rich has nothing to do with it .

discouragement does not work on me it make me more determined to know

no offense taken .
cya .. thought id ask and hope for the best .

The best way I get through bitcoins and its dropping and rising price is.   Look at Bitcoins like the stock market.  You could invest $1000 into Bitcoins and you will either make double that or you will loose it all.      Sometimes it will make you a millionaire, sometimes it will make you broke.

It will always drop,  but it will always shoot through the roof again.

It's all about patience.   Just keep mining away and save your bitcoins untill the price rockets again and then sell then sell them.

You win some, you loose some.

You spend money to make money.   Thats key.  You will never make money if you dont spend any money.

difficulty is predicited to drop back to 23 maybe 18.   in the next couple weeks.

I also predict the price per bitcoin shooting through the roof either in a few months, or early 2015.

I for one am keeping my miners online collecting profiit.
Thanks

I agree!!

I normally don't say much and just read it all and learn but i refuse to buy them i have a income I'm retried and this is fun for me at best if i break even I'm happy

but IL keep  all my  miner online til the day its point less or I'm dead and  keep buying better gear as it comes out. and sell coins not buy no lose to me if I break even . some profit is nice but this is  more fun to me then anything . Smiley .  that's whole point if your not willing to spend then don't try . nothing is free but over time it will pay off i just wish i had jumped on it when it first hit but i was one those who  thought bitocoins was BS back then ,. now i wish had done it . patience and time is the key thing . if you can't wait and don't have the time don't try .

well I've said to much all ready   cya .

PS:  bitcoins are not  the quick buck any more , it takes work now to do it which make its much more worth whole . but I'm also old school in my ways .  why i thought this was BS and a passing thing back then was i wrong.

last thought I mean it .

2835  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Upgrade Kit on: August 25, 2014, 03:51:06 PM
Another thing you'll need to consider is the noise. I had to take apart an S3 for an RMA and had it running without the case and it was loud. The fans make a lot of noise - aka old school vacuum cleaner noise. It's something to consider if you're a home miner and have ppl in the house that tolerate your hobby.

So we will need a case to reduce the noise i have no idea how loud the  S3 are out of  the Case  s1 are annoying enough at times .I'm re modding the cooling on my two S1 for a little  less noise .

more sells for cases, i see all kinds of way to make money if that's  the case and a smart move  on the DEV part .

2836  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Upgrade Kit on: August 25, 2014, 03:26:05 PM
I dont think anyone has since you can still sell S1 for $110 on ebay.

S1 may or may not go up big time at first till we do .

Id rather pay 150 US in the US for one then buy it off ebay, in some cases eBay is great  but as some one  said about eBay the cheap ones on eBay are most  likely on there last legs and well used and sense no one really knows for sure that Ive seen how the upgrade works i mean what condition the old S1 need to be in what does it replace . etc etc  . expect what the add said you get  two boards and some other stuff which looks like a normal upgrade kit do we need the old boards etc etc

I might be wrong can't say i only buy certain things off eBay then it's new. Smiley .

i see why he would require the two kit buy some will buy the kits just to build two S3 at a very reduced price  if all you need is the heat sinks and frame .

over the years I've found when doing most upgrades you don't need the old one  , its just makes it easier if you  have it  .Smiley  well any way I'm done just my  2s worth sense i have not seen  just what it does . my bad you get with the kit

1.   2 units of hash boards

2.  2 units of mini customized heat sink

3.  1 unit of adapter board

4.  1 unit of control board holder

5.  1 fan including the fan's cover and screws

6.  4 units of white plastic brackets, 2 units of 2x10 pin cables, 8 screws, 8 spring screws, 1 bag of thermal paste

buy looking at that you won't need the S1 in any way just a the kit and a  little no know how  unless the S1 has some thing on it you may need.

hm can't wait two S3 for the price of one all you do is put it to gather which some can't do Smiley .
2837  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Upgrade Kit on: August 25, 2014, 03:06:55 PM
One question its not to clear to me do we need two kits for one S1 or it that how hes selling it . if so i don't have a problem with it  either way but be careful imo If we only need one kit I see why  hes requires a two kit buy, I've  seen some places charge the price for two or little less for one kit the way the adds read you only get one for the price of two or a little less  Sad . so yea I'll hold off as well to see how that plays out .

O yea the S1  is still very use full but if i need one kit per S1 or  even if  its needs 2  per S1 still worth it to me, if you have a S1/s ones all ready.

upgrade one  sell off the other kit . if you only plan to upgrade one i can see other reason why  you have to buy two but as i said  be care full if its one kit per S1 .
