2901  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 08:29:32 PM
Is it just me or does the dev's responses do not sound technical at all. Seems like his escape goat reply is "this is only a test release"  Not sure if he can get it done.  This post will be deleted in 5,4,3,2....

=>

This release does not have the multi-path paradigm code which will prevent that.  This is only a test release

What part of multi-path paradigm code don't you get?
2902  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 30, 2014, 08:23:17 PM
Buy the rumor (they said they fixed the issue), sell the news.

BitStamp, BTCChina, OkCoin and BitFinex might be adding DRK.

That's not a trip to the moon, that's a space programme

BitFenix allowing people to short is going to be hilarious. Now followers of "Rape Yourself! - Daytrading For The Fuller Figure" will be able to shoot themselves in both feet simultaneously, and also return from the future Michael J Fox style to shoot themselves in the head too.

Who's gonna short with all these multi-million whale buyers unless they want to margin-call themselves into bankruptcy?

Say DRK is 0.025 and they feel it can go down and short it to 0.018... then comes a whale and takes it to 0.025. They hit their margin calls and then the whale wins big by forcing the shorter into buying up to 0.03.

DRK is too dangerous for shorting it. Immense backers. "The only coin the government actually wants to buy" Tongue
2903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 08:07:56 PM

If that's the case, then this coin is not anonymous at all.

from page one, day one: Anonymous Transactions: In Development

what is everyone's problem jumping down the dev's throat at every turn?

yowzers....

They are trying to understand if the dev is for real / if he can deliver what he promises. Depending one's assessment of the situation, one can either buy or sell.
2904  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 08:06:58 PM
advice:

- fully anonimity with noted blockchain technology is unreal and never will be released.

Admittedly, it's quite a hack to make something transparent work anonymously. At most you can obfuscate things to a degree that is untraceable by 99.9999% of third parties, except some large adversary like the NSA which can control networks, nodes, entire coins through their $$$ etc etc.

NSA-proofing (full anonymity) on the bitcoin's blockchain tech will require some very smart thinking.
2905  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 07:47:37 PM
first thing, we all know this is not a finished product.  period.  it has been stated as such.

Now the question of making a decentralized anon wallet was in question, so I give you:

I did not initiate this transaction, yet I saw it come through on my laptop here.

no matter what is said, The fact is that the developer is still here, he continues working on the project, and we are FAR from finished.

Troll on.

So that picture is showing that this wallet was chosen for this mixed transaction

This release is a only a test - as the plan was to fix up some key items and release in 3-4 weeks

What prevents the in-between node that is "chosen" to receive the money and not send it further down the line? The solution needs to be trustless that the node doesn't steal the money.

It also needs to be non-exploitable in the sense that commands shouldn't be coming in to one's wallet-node to send money out to third-addresses, otherwise if one tampers with a fake transaction one's wallet can be emptied.

This might require more than patching: It may require redesign.
2906  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 06:31:21 PM
I can confirm it is working as well.. Received coins from atcsecure and sent coins to actsecure through the mixer and the transfer's were instant

Instant = timing analysis can be performed in the blockchain where account A was decreased by X amount while account B was increased by the same X amount.

There has to be some kind of delay to join the transactions with others, so that one cannot tell which is which without resorting to probabilities (instead of being 100% certain).

DRK is currently using denomination pools of 10 on top of the mixing, where all transactions are done in tens, so you can't tell which 10 is your ten or another person's 10. You see plenty of 10s entering the mixer and they all exit in seemingly random fashion...

I heard a rumor that some groups are now coming up with FairX11Coin (FXC) due to perceived scam of XC. This just keeps getting nasty  Roll Eyes

Tonz of money in the anon market... the mudslinging, fud, clones etc will be endless.

LOL... don't download crap from third parties. Probably wallet stealers.

You know darkcoin is pushed up by the instamine group guys who own approx 30 - 50 % of coins .

Pushing up prices requires BTC/USD. Unless Darkcoin's instamine has also produced something like 20mn USD in cash or BTCs (for the pump), what you say is baseless.

2910  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: May 30, 2014, 05:07:38 PM
According to Peter_R's Metcalf Law model, the bitcoin price is proportional to the square of the number of transactions. An increase of 3.2x in bitcoin transaction quantity supports a 10x increase in bitcoin price. Currently, transaction volume is about 60,000 daily. To support prices 1000x greater than today we need transaction growth 31.6x greater. That works out to 1.9 million transactions per day. Is that doable in three years?
You mean like 22 transactions per second, or 13200 transactions per block, with about 6.6Mb each?

Not possible by this metric alone, so maybe on-chain Bitcoin will not reach 1M USD in the next 3 years?

Also current price growth suggests a price of 3.67M USD in exactly 3 years, something has to change for this to be possible.

Even if scaling like that was accomplished "easily", what would have to change is the rate with which fiat is issued:

3.67mn USD per BTC x 3600 per day = 13.2bn USD per day to buy daily supply = 4.82 trillion USD per year to buy annual supply.

The monetary base of USD/EUR etc wouldn't be able to cope with that - even if conversion is taking place at just 25% of BTCs (>1trn USD per year required).

I wonder what other links does johnmatrix conceal. Can you show any other proof? And once again, main question is why is the whitepaper tagged as "v1"?

Really, why the fascination with this? I often version my epapers that way, starting with 1.00. Electronic publishing means that the content is alive, unlike printed material which is static in a book. A mistake can be fixed in a v1.01, or a new edition can come out with v2.0

It's actually worse Alex, it's not 80% of the current supply, it's 80% of the entire supply that will ever exist.

Right now it's probably about 99% of the supply. Just calculate how many BCN's have been mined in the last 10 weeks and compare that to the 150,000,000,000 premined coins.

Yeah too much potential for dumping with 99 - not 80%... Extreme potential. The other day the price went down to 2 satoshis on poloniex by a small dump. I can't imagine the larger dumps. Lack of willing buyers (afraid to be dumped upon) + massive supply out there = bad combo.
2912  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin (CPU-mining, true anonymity) on: May 30, 2014, 04:45:07 PM
In terms of price, both scenarios are damning:

1) If 80% of the coins still circulate, the potential for dumping on new-arrivals is massive. Who would touch BCN for investment when dumpers are waiting? The assurance of "ok we'll not dump on you"?

2) If 80% of the coins are destroyed by some secret way, trust to the currency is zero.

How was childporn inserted into BTC's blockchain?
2914  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin (CPU-mining, true anonymity) on: May 30, 2014, 04:32:27 PM
I've scanned through this cryptonote pdf from 2012. The content is different from the "cryptonote v2", which looks like a more sophisticated version with broader explanation, more schemes and formulas. The author is also Nick van Saberhagen, and the public key is the same as on current CryptoNote's website. Theoretically, this all can be true, which is intruguing. I have one question though, who on Earth puts "v1" on the first version of the whitepaper when there is no second version yet?

A forward looking individual?

PROBLEM SOLVED thanks to IRC.

26000 Darkcoins... Yeah baby

Out of curiosity: Bought* or mined?

* price?

Amir is a bit behind development plans as Evan might go a different route in RC3 to enhance anonymity.

Bitinfinex is not a priority. Drk is still in development. Work first, price second.

May I know why DRK have 150 Million premined coin?

Yes you can. DRK only has 4mn coins in circulation. Figure out the rest.

2917  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 10:50:24 AM
MASTERNODES ARE SUPPOSED TO OFFER AN INCOME STREAM... They don't... Therefore they don't work..... (as per design)

No this is incorrect. Maternodes perform the coin mixing for DarkSend. The payments are a bonus and incentive to run a masternode

If you are not going to be getting paid to do it (as it costs money to run one) why on earth would you run one and put your DRK at risk...

They do not work as per design... If the rollout on the 14th June (I think) fails... DRK will be the biggest car crash in history.

Because not everyone here is for profit, some are for the ideology of the coin and the design. Masternodes are active since April if I recall correctly.

Seriously man, you should get some facts and stop spewing nonsense.

You can find the white paper at: http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/DarkcoinWhitepaper.pdf

Go read up a bit

Yes but some people who are for the ideology don't have 20BTC

2 days ago it cost 9.8 BTC to buy a node. A month or so ago it cost 1.15 BTC.
2918  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 09:42:53 AM
Agree, a few reminders for them that masternode's currently don't work as they seem to be forgetting that.. If they fail or there is another huge attack on the network in the next implementation, then that coin is going to plunge like a stone... The good news there is now well and truly priced in...

As the dust settles you can see reality coming back XC is a great competitor to DRK and they are scared.

Masternodes do work, it's the reward for running one that does not ... c'mon get your facts

Ah that's ok then, ill put 1000 DRK up there to be stolen (as has already happened) for zero reward... Great system that.

Nothing to worry about at all there.

the 1000DRK was stolen from a masternode due to poor security on the user end this was confirmed with the user over a skype... again facts dude

So my facts are correct

A user had 1000 DRK stolen - correct
Masternodes are not working as you have confirmed - correct

Let me put it this way, if a garage said, your car works but you can't change gear - would you think - fine - thats OK - most of it works..

Thats DRK at the moment.

Masternodes are operational for months. They aren't getting paid yet. That's the extent of the problem.
2919  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 30, 2014, 02:07:59 AM
Wonder if anyone has ever has problems of updating wallet and everything and yet the balance is a little more than the blockchain explorer?

I read about it here before and something about different addresses, but I only have one address.

 Huh

You have one visible and many invisible which collect small amounts that add up to the total.
2920  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 30, 2014, 01:39:22 AM
The equilibrium is set by spot instance pricing.

I just wanted to address this too: mining costs are a factor underlying price, but ultimately price dynamics are determined by buying & selling, which are in turn determined by humans & emotions. Mining can be unprofitable for weeks/months without nethash suffering (DRK demonstrated this). Or mining profitability can be huge for long periods of time, sustained by strong buy pressure. Or the price can crash and burn, causing miners to leave to the point where nobody bothers anymore. Equilibriums might work on paper, but in practice it's never that neat.

Bottom line is: you can't trust that the price will equilibrate to butt mining costs after a period of hype & speculative adoption. It really could go in any direction depending on competition, media attention, tech problems, all kinds of things really. And the market can be fickle. So it's better to cover your bases where you can.

DRK had pretty good marketing and media attention. Monero hasnt even started yet...

Media attention yes, marketing (no offence LimLims, heh) not so much. DRK was more focusing on doing the job and when it was going to get closer to launch, marketing would be better timed... otherwise there would be problems like "oh this doesn't work, it's broken, drk is flawed" => negative user experience. We often commented on the thread -after some failures- that "phewww... glad this weren't promoted beforehand, it would create a negative impression due to problematic behavior of a half-baked product".

Price acceleration overtook development though and now when DRK does a planned hard fork, it's all over the BBC world service, lol. Unbelievable. But there's not much you can do about it really in terms of "attracting" this attention, unless you have such a meteoric rise in coinmarketcap. The name darkcoin - bitcoin also helps for selling the news stories of the evil twin of bitcoin. Can monero pull off such media attention without the name + price spike? Lets say it's difficult.
