2961  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2022 betting thread on: February 16, 2022, 04:38:26 AM
Perhaps the only surprise in the nominees for best picture is the absence of House Of Gucci, but all other nominees on the list are well-deserved (except, maybe, Don't Look Up). Power Of The Dog by Jane Campion is a strong favorite, with Spielberg's West Side Story as a strong secondary contender.
I agree on Don’t Look Up. It was an entertaining comedy but not a movie for the Oscar awards. However, always there is politics in this. Leonardo di Caprio has the Hollywood connections to make his contemporaries vote for his projects in exchange for a chance to get favors hehehe.

My strong secondary is Belfast and my third is Coda. They are very good movies that everyone should watch. I shake my head when someone said there were no good movies created on 2021.
Have you seen Belfast? It wasn't a comedy, it wasn't a historical mastermind like Schindler's list, it wasn't proper drama that made you cry, it was absolutely nothing. What was it that made it so "sure to win Oscars" movie? The great communication of the troubles some people had back in the day. That is literally it, nothing more. Political is the way to go now, and if you do historical "minority" then you would be sure to be somewhere.

It was a story about childhood and living under a type of environment where violence might erupt anytime because of different religious beliefs. It was also a movie showing that despite the violence and the useless conflict, there was beauty and happiness in the innocence of childhood. I very much liked the movie and it might win best original screenplay. The production design was also good, the cinematography good and the music used in the movie was very good.  It was also based on the director’s childhood.
2962  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: February 16, 2022, 03:55:51 AM
Lomachenko might be George Kambosos’ next opponent. Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia were also considered by the team of Kambosos, however, the best offer might be from Lomachenko’s team. This appears to be the return of the Ukranian lightweight to the championship. I speculate the sportsbooks might overestimate Kambosos’ upset on Teofimo Lopez and offer underdog odds on Lomachenko hehehe.

Report: Kambosos To Defend Lightweight Titles June 5 In Melbourne, Lomachenko Frontrunner

The date and venue for George Kambosos Jr.’s first defenses of his lightweight titles reportedly are set.

According to a report posted Tuesday afternoon on ESPN.com, Kambosos will defend his IBF, WBA, WBC “franchise” and WBO 135-pound championships on June 5 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, which can accommodate approximately 55,000 for boxing. Kambosos’ next fight thus would take place the night of June 4 in the United States.

2963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT for money laundering? on: February 16, 2022, 02:32:25 AM
This we usually hear, when there is a market skyrocketing, many people accuse money laundering, I have often heard negative campaigns even when the price of Bitcoin skyrocketed in 2013 and many people accused Bitcoin used for money laundering, now the accusations are on NFT and them Can only accuse without being able to prove.
yup! it's a common thing in crypto.
this is not the first time this has happened, it happens often and is likely to happen again in the future. as usual, if crypto brings in a new project and skyrockets, there will be a lot of negative news here and there.

so we don't have to swallow all the news that is popping up or being hotly discussed.
need to dig deeper to find out the truth.

However, telling everyone that there is no moneylaundering happening in the cryptospace through bitcoin, anonymous coins, stablecoins, NFTs, in anything inside the cryptospace is certainly a denial of reality. Does the cryptospace not make it easier to move funds across the world? Does the cryptospace not make it easier to be anonymous? Does the cryptospace not have the tools for everyone to use to have more privacy? I shake my head if your intuition tells you that there is no moneylaundering happening in here.
2964  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN FUNDRAISING FOR OTTAWA TRUCK DRIVERS on: February 16, 2022, 01:30:38 AM
This news sounds ideal. But this is not a theoretical case. This has happened in real life, happening right now in fact. Bitcoin has shown once again how it is a much better alternative for people especially during the time when their freedom is taken away by controlling powers.

But the thing that would cause the downfall of centralized bodies like the fundraising platforms and the bank mentioned is not actually Bitcoin but themselves. They themselves are driving away people by their suffocating control. They are forcing people to get into Bitcoin. The more they show to the world that they can take away other people's freedom, the more Bitcoin will become a better choice.

I also want to larp about bitcoin and freedom, however, we should also live in reality. If a restraining order can be given to gofundme.com and givesendgo.com, this restraining order can also be given to any nonprofit organization that accepts bitcoin as donations for the protesters. This restraining order will make spending and sending any of those bitcoins from the address a criminal offence.

Why would you be using Bitcoin and a non-profit organization at the same time? If you are shifting to a Bitcoin donation drive because you are staying away from centralized fundraising organizations, isn't it ironic and stupid to do it using a non-profit organization? The very reason why you chose Bitcoin is to stay away from organizations that are under the control of governments and banks. Replacing a centralized fundraising organization by another centralized organization is utterly foolish.

This argument is not about only nonprofit or other forms of organizations. This is about a judge giving the same restraining order on a bitcoin public address similar to what the government did to the protester’s gofundme.com and givesendgo.com accounts. All transactions going out from the address would become illegal. This is also about if bitcoin is a viable alternative for fundraisers similar to this where the organizers can be criminalized and their transactions can be traced.

I reckon the protesters might have chosen the wrong cryptocoin for what they want to accomplish. Bitcoin is very dangerous for fundraising if the reason is to protest against the government because the blockchain is transparent. This would be similar to a thief showing his money trail to everyone hehehe.

@o_e_l_e_o. It appears you are not considering human predisposition for wanting shiny things hehehe. The forked project will be stealing all the ideas of the original and will also incentivize their users by issuing a token and make them something similar to being shareholders of a company. What will the people choose, the original with no token or the fork with a token? If some people have not noticed this in all their years in the cryptospace then they might have not been very observant.

Do you reckon that there will be a community of people who will be interested in bank settlements if Ripple did not issue XRP?

In any case, on this topic. Putin, Xi and Kim Jong Un hehehe.

2966  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Amir Khan vs Kell Brook - Feb 19, 2022 on: February 15, 2022, 02:45:41 AM
What are @bisdak and @boafeng’s predictions for this? In recent years Kell Brook’s losses were only to kings of welterweight and also to the king of middleweight of 2016. Similarly Amir Khan also only lost to Terence Crawford and the present middleweight king Canelo Alvarez in recent years. They are also of similar age, 35 years old, only 1 inch advantage for Brook in height and 2 inches of advantage in reach for Khan.

Also, their losses in recent years were also knockouts. Will this fight end before round 10? This might be under 9.5 rounds, I reckon.

This is the beginning of a dictatorship in the land of the maple syrup hehehe. But there is an altcoin they can use for this. It is very anonymous and very private hehe.

“These changes cover all forms of transactions, including digital assets such as crypto currencies. The illegal blockades have highlighted the fact that crowdfunding platforms and some of the payment service providers they use are not fully captured under the Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act,” said Freeland.

The world will have and use many blockchains, it will not only be bitcoin.
I'm sure it will, but the actual requirement for these blockchains to have their own coins or tokens which can be bought or sold is almost always zero. I remember having this argument with someone back in 2017 about some altcoin whose big vision was to put medical records on a blockchain. If any health system wanted to do that, you can guarantee they will use their own in-house developed blockchain which they have control over, and not some scam nonsense launched by a random individual who has pre-mined half the supply themselves.

The strongest opposition to government regulation of cryptocurrencies is everyone using bitcoin in a decentralized and peer to peer way, not throwing their money away on scam coins and rug pulls.

I very much agree, o_e_l_e_o! I have also criticized many projects also for issuing tokens that were useless. However, I might have changed my mind on this only if the project is not a scam. This is because if a project does not issue its own token then another development team can fork the original project and put a token in it and issue this through ICO, IDO, IEO or IWO. The original project has to protect themselves by issuing a token.
2969  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-02-10] CNBC: Binance is taking a $200 million stake in Forbes on: February 15, 2022, 12:28:37 AM
There is already a bit of a discussion going on here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5385385 about this.
On a separate note, I went reading though a bunch of tech articles in Forbes since I posted in the other thread last night.
It's all doom and gloom and scare tactics about most tech things. Not just crypto. It's like every headline is clickbait.

"New Microsoft vulnerability threatens tens of millions of computers"
Or
"Cisco bug can take down the internet"
Or
"Millions of home routers are hackable"

It's like a large number of their readers are older and like the clickbait scare people headlines.
Since they are valued so high I guess it works, but looking though a lot of their articles they are just flat out wrong about stuff.
<shrug>
-Dave

I also made a thread in the altcoin subforum.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5385298.0

I joke about the move as the revenge of CZ against Forbes for publishing the very negative fud article that was written by one of its contributors hehe. However, it was more on taking a different marketing strategy for Binance. FTX wants to partner with sports teams to connect with a mainstream audience, Binance wants to control the storylines and brainwash the mainstream audience hehehehe.
2970  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 14, 2022, 05:25:06 AM
And the full results are in

Really sad for Bobby Knuckles, it seems that he can forget being a champ as long as Adesanya is in the division. Bobby is a year younger than Adesanya but has more mileage with tough opponents, so I doubt he will see Izzy stepping down while in his prime. I don't know who's left in the division for him to fight, except the champ, and he will not be getting a third shot just like that, I imagine Cannonier getting that title fight next, and if he loses then we might see a rematch between Whittaker and Cannonier.

See, I told you Tai Zuivasa is gonna be the next champ Cheesy

Arlovski on a mini winning streak?

Yup sad.  But the line def had value at 3.50 at the day of the event.  The match was close with Adesanya winning it 3 - 2.  Whitaker should’ve shown a bit more aggression at R1.  He gave that round away...

And I think too soon for Whitaker vs Cannonier although that would make the most sense.  But nobody wants to watch that so the UFC would prolly feed either Whitaker or Cannonier somebody like Sean Strickland imho...  Andre Muniz should also be given a top 10 guy this year with the hope he wins.  That would put a fresh face in there.

However, we should also learn to recognize real talent and accept the reality that sportsbooks trick everyone by offering high odds in fighters they are certain to be a loser for us hehehehe. Izzy was also given a new contract and he will become uncle Dana’s new pet and it also appears that Francis Ngannou might also be given a new contract. We cannot bet against the pets hehehe.

Congratulations to Rams fans and bettors hehe. My bet was on the Bengals, however, I am also very happy for Matt Stafford. Everyone appears to have thought that he was not a good player because he did not bring good results with the Detroit Lions. Was there anything to be expected for being a quarterback in Detroit?

Also, everyone should welcome the NFL in the community. People will be bagholding NFLcoin during the bear market hehehe.

2972  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT for money laundering? on: February 13, 2022, 07:16:36 AM
Advances in technology have actually opened up many loopholes for crime, of course NFT is one of them, so far there has been no news about money laundering in NFT, I just hope the government will soon issue regulations on the NFT market, and cryptocurrencies. because NFT and cryptocurrencies are also profitable in some countries.

Agreed! It also not only opened up loopholes for criminality to make it easier to hide from the government. I reckon it has also opened up regulatory holes where criminals cannot be arrested by the authorities because as argued, NFT is art and the art market is very much unregulated. It appears the government’s job has only become more complicated hehehe.
2973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Binance, led by Changpeng Zhao, is taking a $200 million stake in Forbes on: February 13, 2022, 06:12:30 AM
If you analyze coin after coin and token after token it all comes back to the basic flaw of how to get the coin/token adopted by people not in the crypto sphere. This problem will persist until there is a mind shift not to immediately wanting to swap crypto to fiat from a merchant perspective. The way to engineer that mind shift is by influencing a mechanism used in the non-crypto sphere and educating people and in this way expanding the crypto sphere.

In essence Binance has built a new "bridge" - between crypto and non-crypto and the $200m makes him a validator of the messaging in the Forbes non-crypto platform. One could call it a cross-crypto-sphere-bridge.

It might also only be about the revenge of Changpeng Zhao after Forbes wrote the very negative article about Binance and about him hehehe. The date the article was published might also be the day Changpeng Zhao began planning to buy a share of Forbes hehe.

In any case, yes there will be no more fud coming from Forbes if is succesful in buying his share.

2974  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT for money laundering? on: February 12, 2022, 05:09:54 AM
Because of its high price, NFT has become a new way in today's era to commit money laundering crimes. so it's no wonder from now on some countries have started to make rules to prevent this from happening. One of the recommended ways for the US Treasury is to limit the volume of transactions to be made on NFT sales.

In some deals and negotiations between criminal syndicates, expensive paintings and other artworks are being used as collateral instead of dealing in cash. NFTs are the perfect methods for this type of deal making because they are very valuable but also very portable.
2975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WSJ: How the Feds Tracked Hacked Bitfinex Funds on: February 12, 2022, 03:41:58 AM
@franky1. Do you trust this official press release to be the real story? I reckon real hackers and moneylaunderers who have control to more than $3 billion in bitcoin might be more careful and smarter. The skeptical me is beginning to think that those people in social media who speculate that they are only scapegoats might be correct. Would it be shocking if the hackers was a group commisioned by a corrupt government intelligence agency?
Have the authorities recovered any funds or is it just tracking and arresting some people?
but the main lot the ~95k[Wallet 1CGA4] never went through an exchange not cashed out by the pair, nor seized in 2017-21.
but instead seized in 2022

Quote
Between January 31, 2022, and February 1, 2022, law enforcement obtained approval to execute a lawful seizure
supported by probable cause under exigent circumstances and used the private keys from
LICHTENSTEIN’s file to seize Wallet 1CGA4’s remaining balance of approximately 94,636
BTC, worth $3.629 billion

Are the authorities not supposed to transfer those coins to a more secure wallet? It might not only be the comedy couple who is holding the private key for the wallet hehehe. This clearly should be very head shaking for everyone. The official story is not very convincing.

I am inclined to think that they are just part of the hacking group, perhaps scapegoats or those who collect initial info but not mainly the brains behind the actual hack. They are so fond of social media, and they have done things that could obviously put their identities in peril, and normally those who do some hacking do not engage in these kinds of activities.

The true hackers are still yet to be jailed, I believe. These two doesn't seem to be the masterminds of the heist from their most recent activities.
I do actually have the same thoughts that these couple arent the masterminds but rather just some cover ups on the said crime. It is really just impossible to think that hackers wouldnt really
be erasing their tracks that could possibly expose their identity which they are fully aware of that and its just dumb that they would be making out actions without considering that those
addresses were heavily monitored and im bit sure  that they are fully aware of that but this situation a little bit giving questions on my mind.

This makes it possible that the real hackers also hold the private keys for the wallet or the authorities do not really have the private keys for the wallet.

@Hydrogen. On Dune if you are not a fan of the books, it will be hard to be a fan of the movie. Dune is not similar to Starwars where it was created like a tv soap opera with lasers, spaceships and as a marketing tool for commerical merchandising. Dune was a very good movie and it deserves the nomination for best picture, I reckon.

I'm a fan of David Lynch's Dune (1984) and the books.

The 2022 rendition of Dune doesn't do the story justice. Atreides disembark onto Arrakis decked out in full body armor. When the Harkonnens attack, the Atreides engage them without the body armor they wore earlier, or much in the way of weapons. This is never explained and doesn't make much sense.

The fictional character of Paul Atreides is supposed to have trained as a soldier and leader from a young age, and be very skilled in these areas. The actor selected to portray Paul Atreides in the 2022 Dune film looks like he was born and bred to be the ultimate accountant. Highly skilled at writing memos and paperwork. Otherwise, completely useless in terms of what the character is supposed to be.

The scene where palm trees are watered is anti science. Trees and plants would be placed inside an enclosure like a greenhouse where water and humidity could be trapped and retained. They would never be planted out in the open bleeding moisture. There are small details like this scattered around the film which are anti science or written by authors who fail to know the most basic aspects of common sense. The ornithopter and carry all designs also may have been flawed, although I can't remember exactly what issues I had with those.

I couldn't recommend 2022 Dune as it simply isn't faithful to the spirit of what the Dune genre stands for.

David Lynch’s Dune was very scattered. He tried to force everything in one movie.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac_7VInKnow

My only annoyance on Denis Villeneuve’s version is the incompleteness in introduction of the Dune universe, the politics, the guilds and the history. We might see this in the next movies, however.

They did not have body armor because they were not ready. Dr. Yueh turned off the shields and there was a surprise attack from the Harkonnens. It was detailed in the book. Gurney Halleck was also separated and he was assumed dead.

Paul is trained, however, he was not a soldier. In the book, it was also revealed to him that he was meant to be a mentat. Paul was also only 15 years old when they went to live in planet Arrakis.

The date palms were also described similarly in the book but by Dr. Yueh through talking to Jessica. Blame Frank Herbert if this is anti science. The movie is only following what is written in the book.
