2962  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: March 05, 2016, 06:37:36 AM
Thanks Mike. Have you any ideas about a heat sink and fan that would fit? Or some idea if it's a standard fitment for something else.

holes are 35mm apart (it's a square, each side is 35mm long)

Thanks zOU, I'll make a mental note and keep an eye out for a cooler to suit Smiley

Nope, I do not know anything about the heat sink or fitment.  I assume it's probably a standard size of some sort.  I found that the U3 actually passes a lot of its heat out the bottom, so I put a fan beneath my U3 and that cooled it way way down (there's a pict or two in this thread a few pages back), simple mod with good results.

I have a broken U3 I would sell just for the shipping cost (0.03BTC to continental USA) if you want one to disassemble and measure and experiment with.  PM me if interested, I was holding it for someone else but they never got back to me.

I would but I'm in the UK. Plus haven't really got the time for anything too in depth. I'll look back on the thread for your fan mod. Thanks.

Anyone powered the U3 from an ATX power supply? If so can someone point me in the direction of a suitable adaptor cable. Preferable an 8pin to barrel of its possible.

Also has anyone changed the heat sink to a zalman one or something else?

Thanks.

This all sounds very intriguing. I'm interested in buying one as a working art piece at this rate Smiley

On the subject of servers I've got all my minera pointed at "mint.bitminter" they are registering and hashing but would there be any advantage if I pointed them to the eu server seeing as I'm in the UK?

2972  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why do some S3's overclock and some dont? on: March 04, 2016, 12:33:47 PM
That's fair enough. I was thinking if it was some kind of programming that it could be altered. Never mind. Thanks for the replies Smiley
2973  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why do some S3's overclock and some dont? on: March 04, 2016, 07:02:36 AM
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not looking to buy anymore but if I were I'd keep a look out for a + model and swap out my old normal one with wifi instead.

I'm along the same thinking about the personality side of things. Each one is different. But it still doesn't explain why though? Was it down to components used? Programming?

Cheers.
2974  Bitcoin / Hardware / Why do some S3's overclock and some dont? on: March 03, 2016, 09:09:03 PM
Hi guys,

Just a curiousity question really. I have an S3 and an S3+ and the S3+ is overclocked to 250freq and has been since I got it. Runs fine only gets the occasional error on one chip every two weeks which a reboot sorts out. The S3 on the other hand wont take even the next freq up without throwing chips left right a centre or not powering a whole board.

Now to my question, why are they behaving differently? I know they are made at different times, and are technically different models, but has anyone tracked down or does anyone know why they behave so differently to overclocking?

Thanks.
2975  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB "New guy" starter type equipment on: March 03, 2016, 09:04:24 PM
Ive got a couple of S3's under my desk in my room and can happily sleep with them on (ambient temp is 20c though). They are quiet compared to most. Had an S4 for a while in the adjacent bedroom which wasn't too bad with the door shut and the window open (for cooling). I liked the idea of the self contained aspect as the PSU was built in so only a power lead and Ethernet needed.
2976  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Massive amount of S4 watercooled on eBay on: March 03, 2016, 08:58:52 PM
That guy posted in the S4 support thread about those miners. Seems a massive undertaking to watercool that many of them then say in the description that they are "junk". Could well be worth a bit of experimentation if he were to split them. But it looks like hes trying to sell the whole lot.

If I had am airconditioned datacentre I would by the new ones from him. Its a shame im just a home miner with a couple of S3's  Cheesy

It is a great pool and I'm enjoying mining with him/them and the miners as a whole. I just hope we crack this block (whichever one it is) as my rental runs out in 3.5hours lol. A double bubble would be great, it would give me a nice comparison on payments and hopefully earn me a bit of profit aswell.
