301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Jed McCaleb's Alpha Test - What Is It? Who's Down? on: February 13, 2014, 02:11:11 PM

often rumored to be satoshi himself, he has been behind some big things in bitcoin (mtgox) - and beyond (ripple).

You know, between edonkey, gox, and ripple, I use to believe he was Satoshi.  But, idk, "secretbitcoinproject"?  I mean, it would have to be sardonic to call it that if you were satoshi, and it doesn't strike me as being in his humor profile.

Who knows though.
302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Schrödinger's Bitcoin Thought Experiment on: February 13, 2014, 02:08:33 PM
If the producer knows which coin contains no private key then the coin exists in a known state.  If no one knows which coin is missing the key then all coins exist in both states until the quantum probability wave collapses.  Though the above point about trusting the manufacturer and thus all coins existing in both states is really not wrong.

Now, a more interesting thought experiment would be to send someone who owns bitcoin into Schrödinger's box, and then tell them to sign a transaction that will broadcast that bitcoin to somewhere else.  Before the box is opened, has the bitcoin changed owners?

Depends - was the tix mutilated?  Tongue

304  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / A quick fix for the current issue vrs the right fix on: February 12, 2014, 05:07:22 PM
Guys, honestly, we need to all stop fixating on little b here... This isn't a little b problem.  The problem is a big B problem and it makes all the sense in the world for the devs to take the time they need to patch this problem.  They have know they would have to for a long time, but since there is no existential threat to the big B here.  The attacks are not going to cause a fork in the blockchain, and they don't make it possible for someone to steal you coins.  That is the main reason it hasn't been addressed until now.  They/We have know this could happen but there isn't too much economic incentive for someone to try this attack unless they are trying to kill competitors, weaken little b to get in lower, or are just bored and malicious.

There isn't a need for an immediate bandaid.  All of you that are afraid of people "losing faith" are talking about the price of your current little b investments.  Bitcoin, big B bitcoin, isn't about the value of little b bitcoins.  It's the ledger and the network that matter, ultimately.  At some point the price of bitcoins could conceivably be almost zero or many geometric iterations higher then it is now... none of that will effect the real value here which is clearly, "Big B".

They will get this problem fixed, but for now, realize, its more of an annoyance then anything.  For those stuck with money at gox, or who have lost money somehow in this mess, obviously the problem is much bigger for you, and I offer my sincere apologizes if my little rant here is insensitive to your personal plight.  I am talking more holistically and about the framework.  I guess I just wanted to say something because I am hearing people  that the end is nigh, really, imo, because they are worried as they see value of their bitcoins falling.

313  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Just wondering, are any of you not libertarians? on: February 06, 2014, 10:07:00 PM
Is Alex Jones a libertarian ?

The really scary thing here is that I saw this guy (Alex Jones) waxing lyrical about BTC recently.

That, to me, is tragic - but it has been mirrored by my short time on this forum. The man is a lunatic.

He, and the views he expresses, are not what BTC is about for me. He, and his like, have cottoned on to BTC largely through the regard for their own self interest and a belief in the sovereignty of the individual - as well as a vague notion that BTC will make it impossible for a wicked Govt. to seize their taxes etc etc.

Its gonna be a hard road to travel.

God help us.

Alex Jones isn't a libertarian, he is a conspiracy theory whacko who is just trying to sell shit.  He is useless.

As a patriotic American I'd like to exercise my right to happiness by saying I'm interested.

What does being a "patriotic American" have to do with it?

Also, American's are not guaranteed the right to happiness, but rather the right to pursue it.
315  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Just wondering, are any of you not libertarians? on: February 06, 2014, 06:49:39 PM
I'm not what others would call a libertarian. More of a liberal. However compared to people around the world, most Americans have a libertarian streak in them.

That I can agree with for sure - and I think I share that bent... but idk man, between the forums, and the satoshi square meetups it feels like 99% of the people I meet in bitcoin are libertarians and often extreme ones.
316  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Just wondering, are any of you not libertarians? on: February 06, 2014, 06:25:01 PM
I reckon that the wealth of a nation should be held in the hands of the people of that nation.

Does that make me a libertarian or not ?

In an of itself, no... do you identify as a libertarian?
317  Other / Politics & Society / Just wondering, are any of you not libertarians? on: February 06, 2014, 05:40:36 PM
I mean, I would describe myself as a liberal democrat on social issues and moderate to liberal on fiscal ones.  I know that's like a complete anathema to many of you here, but is everyone involved with bitcoins really a libertarian?
318  Economy / Goods / Re: Magic Cookies and rice crispy treats.... on: February 06, 2014, 04:40:25 PM
Gluten free?  ;-)
319  Other / Off-topic / Stock Research Question on: February 04, 2014, 02:47:59 PM
I am sure I am asking to get flamed by those of you who don't believe in investing the market or whatever, but...

Does anyone have a list of companies that have beat on both top and bottom line for Q4 and raised guidance?

Thanks

not every newbie is a scammer ffs  Angry

what a waste of a PM.. i can give collateral, i can post screenshots of my paypal balance, my virwox account at its limit, my transaction history on cex.io and whatever the f--k else you want. i have had more than 0.25BTC pass through my hands both ways already why the f--k would i want to scam someone for a measley 0.25BTC. why offer a service and offer it to newbies if you then dont provide it when a newbie asks for a loan? i swear you guys in bitcointalk are batting 1000 in terms of making me not want to help out a single one of you once im established here and have some BTC about me.. well apart from foysal, hes a f--kin legend for helping me out not once but twice.
