141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Informal guesses: How much fiat has been put into coins, net... on: September 24, 2014, 04:35:45 PM
You guys are not understanding what I am looking for here.  If it's useful to you, really doesn't matter.  I don't care that the number that circulates.  What I mean is there is a total amount of money that households deposited on exchanges to buy bitcoins, and when someone sold them, someone else bought them - that means that if they paid more, more money went in, if they paid less, some money came out... Also local bitcoins, or whatever.

What I am looking for is the simple number, of fiat, converted to USD, that people have used to just buy bitcoin.  I've heard guesses ranging from 100 million to 8 billion.  The number doesn't need to be correct, but you can think about it like mutual funds.

In a given quarter money, overall, flows into our out of mutual funds net.  So like, sometimes 7 billion flows into mutual funds (say 11 billion in and 4 billion out) in a quarter.  Sometimes 3 billion flows out (say 5 billion in, 8 billion out).

I want guesses as to, what the net inflow of fiat, directly into coins is over the five years.

It doesn't need to be right - in fact, better then getting the exact number would be having a large number of guesses.
142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Informal guesses: How much fiat has been put into coins, net... on: September 24, 2014, 03:43:40 PM
I am working on a research paper, just for funzies, and I need to get a base line guess on how much money (read fiat) has been converted into bitcoins and altcoins, net.  It doesn't need to be scientific, or even accurate really - I just would like to hear what people think.

To be clear, this isn't money invested in mining, VC money in businesses, or trading volumes in daily trade... I am looking or a number, net number, or how much fiat has been put into coins, that is it.

Any guesses?
143  Other / Off-topic / Re: I know there is no such thing as 'free energy' but what if it was possible? on: September 15, 2014, 04:47:40 PM
There is no such thing as "unlimited energy" - see Thermodynamics.

Free, or close to it, and plentiful energy however could well be a reality.  And yes, if it was plentiful and cheap enough it could solve most of the most important problems in the world.  It couldn't solve the fact that humans will eventually get bored and get ourselves into trouble, but things like hunger, the environment, poverty, clean water ect... yeah, it could.

I've sacrificed nearly everything of myself for the past 10 years studying medicine so that I can help protect others, and especially children, from mental illness.

My mom's really sick so I care a lot about brain diseases.  Don't get me wrong -- physical diseases like cancer are horrible, but brain diseases invade your very soul.  If you've ever seen a kid with low functioning autism or Downs, can you even think of living like that?  It's screwed up trying to imagine what they go through.

I got into ultrasound research because high frequency sound waves can be used to change the body's natural chemistry.  You don't have to add drugs or chemicals to it, you just shoot it with a little sound beam and it stimulates whatever you're aiming at.  This has INCREDIBLE potential in medicine.  Imagine being able to combat Alzheimer's disease, ALS, Parkinson's, and others with just some cheap sound.  It's within our reach, and in just a few years we'll have it.

And once we figure out how to use sound in medicine, we can share it with the world because ... well, it's sound.  It's not some overpriced commercial chemical.

Along the way, I learned another important thing... Because I studied how to use sound as a cure, I also learned that it can cause harm if you use it wrong.  You know how ultrasound is used in nearly every pregnancy to image the baby?  Research shows that too much ultrasound can cause developmental problems, and maybe even can cause autism.  I can point to several mechanisms where ultrasound exposure can cause autism linked pathology.

If you want to read more about this prenatal ultrasound topic check out this online petition.  Sign it if you're awesome: http://www.change.org/p/health-risks-of-prenatal-ultrasound-the-urgent-need-for-more-research-and-regulation

Anyway...
All of this school and sacrifice has left me poor as hell, and both of my parents were diagnosed with Hepatitis C this month...  Treatment in the USA would cost us over $100,000 per person, and I do NOT have that...  but, with medical tourism, I could get them to Egypt or something where the price for the pills is affordable within the $30-50,000 range for a full treatment over a 6 month period.

...if you gave me 100 bitcoins, it would save my parents' lives.  I don't know if you're for real about this give away, but if you are ...please consider

I withdraw and vote for this guy.

146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency paying Dividends on: August 26, 2014, 12:59:29 PM
Cryptocurrency paying Dividends is a welcoming idea, nxt coin is already doing this.

Many would find this idea of the currencies themselves paying dividends unattractive as it would be akin to inflation in the system.  It is actually a feature of most PoS coins as has been mentioned here.
147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency paying Dividends on: August 25, 2014, 03:37:17 PM
I dont even get the point of your theory, why should someone offer kryptostocks? I'd always prefer common stocks since they are not correlated to any currency or federal bank anyways.

The old system of the stock market is you have to go through a broker (someone who's broke) to sell the stock for you.

The cryptocurrency dividends system is the new stock market system that allow individual investors to sell their shares of the company's stock to other investors without someone who's broke taking a huge percentage out of it.

The is the point, the market should be a crypto rail with immutable data, standardized confirmation times, ect... there is however no reason for the companies to issue "coins" or any other new token... they can just use the current shares, traded on the right rails.
148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency paying Dividends on: August 25, 2014, 02:13:36 PM
There is no reason for them to create crypto securities... They can just trade their current securities via crypto rails.  You'd get the same results.
149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency paying Dividends on: August 25, 2014, 01:12:47 PM
Yes and no - equities don't need to issue cryptobased securities.  The current securities could be ported on to ripple, or stellar like networks which would provide the same protection from HFT, manipulation, ect by creating immutable trade data every few seconds via the LCL.  This would accomplish the same idea you are looking for without having to recreate the SEC ect.

Also, iOS is extremely hard to develop to, as I have to pass a heck lot of regulations. iOS will take 1M by itself

I wouldn't be interested if there was no iOS app.  Also, exactly what feeds would you be wanting to integrate?

Hey Guys
I could create a Multi-Platform (Android, Windows 8, Windows Phone) news aggregator for BLU. it will have feeds from all BLU social accounts. However, as the dev (maybe rightly) thinks there might not be enough demand for the app he won't offer me a bounty for it, so I will have to depend on donations to cover the costs. Anyone interested in the app ?

How much were you looking for?
I think about 600 to 700 K

Do you have any examples of your work?  This wouldn't include iOS?

The BBQ was a smashing success.  Everyone had a great time, and there were several shout outs on twitter.

More to follow, just gathering as many photos from teh party as possible.

Mee's thinking that there is a wee problem with this coin.  Apparently it was suppose to go ape once it moved into POS mode, its gone down.  I'm sure that there will be some convoluted excuse as to why, some big whale in China or some other bullshit will be the reason.  Remember excuses are just a patch on the garment of failure.  If the developer is serious about this coin and what it stands for why arn't we seeing Blue Coin's name splashed all over the place and being more informed as to its current position.  I understand that all this takes time and man power.  I'm sure that the dev is head down, bum up, working on stuff but really is that to the decrement of the coin.  I really think that this coin has a lot to offer and believe it has come time to stop poncing around and do something to heighten the profile of this coin.  Other coins have come, entered the market at much higher values, turned out to be a shonk and disappeared and it still continues to happen whilst Blue Coin is still floundering around with individuals on this forum basically dictating the price.  So really, are crypto coins truly decentralized?

I am prepared for the backlash that the keyboard warriors will dish out as basically their mouths or in this case fingers tap before their brains work.  So if the dev is serious about this coin I am more than happy to give my resources and help to give this coin the identity it truly deserves.

What resources and help do you have to offer?  There is plenty going on behind the scenes.  Also, the trend isn't really broken.

We both get tested every other month

Why so often if you trust each other?

Best practice.
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Real coin - proof of burn concept on: August 13, 2014, 01:07:04 PM
So I want to start an exchange for real real coin based on a real coin proof of burn. You get two real real coins, which are not backed by anything other then twigs for every real coin you burn... but $2 worth of twigs.  Do you think department of treasury will have a problem with us burning real coins?

I don't have HIV or AIDs.  I am in a magnanimous relationship with my boyfriend.  We both get tested every other month.  Not just for aids, but full STD panels.  Why can't I give blood?  A good answer...

HIV is a retro-virus. Retro-viruses are harmless, everyone is full of them.
HIV will eventually turn into AIDS which will kill you (it actually makes it easier for sickness to kill you, but the point is still there). If you have HIV it will eventually turn into AIDS.

This isn't strictly true - but is in practicality.
159  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Banning gay men from giving blood is stupid on: August 12, 2014, 07:27:14 PM
what the fuck are you talking about?

shouldn't this be at politcs&society if it actually makes any sense?

You're probably correct - my bad, someone move it.  I just figured it was off topic of bitcoin.

I shared a needle once disqualifying me.  I don't see why gays deserve any more rights than i do

Really?  You don't see a difference?  I mean, the point here is if you are getting your blood tested for diseases and you are clean, it's dumb to disqualify.
160  Other / Politics & Society / Banning gay men from giving blood is stupid on: August 12, 2014, 07:20:07 PM
I mean, come on, "Are a man who has had sex with another man since 1977, even once"

Really?  I mean, I know my blood is clean.  As opposed to every straight friend I have, I get my blood tested for disease, every few months.  As does my magnanimous partner.
