301  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Public address cf private keys cf blockchain sigs on: February 13, 2014, 11:02:54 AM
If a transaction is signed by two different private keys related to the same public address, is the signature different?
I'm expecting perhaps not, since I'm wondering that it must be the public key that contributes to the confirmation that a signature was actioned by an 'pwner' of that public address.

If there's a simple description of how a public address is used to confirm a signature that was actioned by a private key, that would be interesting to see. I don't understand yet how the private key actions a signature but the public key cannot.

No idea but does it not just follow from http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=how_to_get_setup_earning_devcoins_by_writing

Well deserved having disappointed so many people. They should have aborted, when it was clearly going wrong. I can't help but wonder this this is a direct consequence of the launch.. which obviously did fail to the Max! Given the easy access to media MK had whatever he launched well, could have had real potential.
304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are your top 5 alt coins, in order? on: February 12, 2014, 04:12:42 PM
Mastercoin (MSC) - not an alt but a protocol (and not to be confused with MTC). Very early days but very exciting.
Peercoin (PPC)
Litecoin (LTC) - it seems closer to critical mass and capability to be spent in the real world than any other.
Namecoin (NMC)
Nextcoin (NXT)

Also, I like the older coins that offer something unique.
Primecoin (XPM)
Devcoin (DVC) - cheap as chips atm but I like the idea behind it.. that said I wonder this would need a big influx of devs to make it's arguement stand up.

and longshot penny stocks that could easily come alive in a big way, as simple alternate choices; obviously that could easily occur if ATMs and POS are capable of acknowledging any coin.. people like choice.
Worldcoin (WDC)
Feathercoin (FTC)
Quark (QRK)

Machines are like centralized payment systems, they're easy to kill.. good ideas, never die.
306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Peercover Launches Ether Futures on: February 12, 2014, 03:19:20 PM
Yeah.. I meant the zombie after Ripple goes under..
307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Peercover Launches Ether Futures on: February 12, 2014, 03:00:35 PM
ripple labs (well funded) could go bankrupt and the protocol would still live.

Cheesy Why won't it just die!
308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Peercover Launches Ether Futures on: February 12, 2014, 02:04:59 PM
Ripple is such a turnoff relative to Bitcoin; and then is Ethereum's ambitions to include Turing complete offering not going to invoke complexities that can't be resolved?.. All I've seen of that suggestion of Turing complete protocol is that it could force changes back in time on transactions, in ways that will be more disruptive than helpful. Would Turing complete not offer the potential of having viruses and other mischeif in the Blockchain??
309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Resources - Consolidated List on: February 08, 2014, 08:28:23 PM
You could list vircurex.com for alt-coins exchange. It's been stable and reliable for a long while.
310  Other / Meta / Activity? on: February 07, 2014, 06:04:57 PM
What is the Activity figure for each user that appears on the left of each post?
I've not paid any attention to it before but notice it's not the post count I'd taken it to be and it doesn't appear to change.
311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 07, 2014, 05:57:14 PM
Amir's direction is all correct, and I think he should spend some more time studying existing economy system so that he can explain clearly why bitcoin is much more advanced

I'm not sure talking about the competitor is needed or wise. It just reminds people of what they do like about what they are familiar with.

To get people to think about change, you need to spend time talking about what they don't know, rather than wasting time talking of what they know well. Everyone has their perception of what they are familiar with. You are more likely to convince people about that which they do not know, than that which they do.

Talking about what Bitcoin offers and perhaps then simply noting that it's not controlled by any third party, is sufficient. People can then reflect on how their masters are doing them over and how existing power and wealth have an unfair advantage in perpetuating the difference. The state of the economy talks for itself. Talk then instead of flexibility and freedom, no need to exchange money at the boarder just take it with you etc etc; and if in a business or political forum, talk of colour coins and how much opportunity there is for innovation.

The dark heart of current economics, is exactly what would make him look uncomfortable; and anyone doing that, would easily get caught for lack of knowledge. Don't play their game on their turf and expect to win!

am i in trouble?

Just delete your ~/.ssh/known_hosts

There is a method for losing just the one key but that will forget all. Try again and it'll work.

Pools reporting they are still having minor problems - be prepared to solo mine.

hmm

The QT client would likely have a similar option to other coins to be a solo miner but that's not the same as needing a cloud terminal daemon.
315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 06:34:35 PM
Yes, but the point is that the step towards an answer to our economic and political difficulties, is to disrupt the current power and wealth - hand more power to the people; that's part of what Bitcoin helps us do.
316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 05:24:10 PM
Its not all about looks to me. But, when trying to convince people to part with two of the most valuable commodities, time and money, dressing smart and being coherent goes a long way.

You're taking cheap shots but he wasn't incoherent and he did a better job than you would do.

Go and get that amount of exposure; do it better, then feel free to criticize.
317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 05:13:04 PM
no, i'm being serious.
If politicians dressed like tramps no one would vote for them. (which would be a good thing) If bankers wore hoodies, no one would bank with them.
<snip />
Why do you think sales reps dress smart, because it portrays a professional image which says you can trust me.
No one is going to rush out and buy bitcoin because a man on tv, who doesn't look like he has a penny to his name, says its a good idea.
<snip />

The fallacy you're trying to suggest is valid, is that what people look like matters more than what they have to say. I'd rather see the end of that nonsense.

You suggested only one valid point that everytime someone is in public talking about Bitcoin, they are selling Bitcoin.. which is the measure by which Amir did a great job. He's maybe not the salemen you want to see but he will have inspired a lot of people who've not understood that Bitcoin is more than just a geeky internet token.
318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 04:36:03 PM
Con-men dress smart because they understand image is everything in order to gain trust.

So your thread here is meant as bad irony?.. That wasn't at all clear and you should be careful doing that; a lot of people will take you seriously and may not get the point at all.
319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 04:18:43 PM
Ok, so who are bitcoin's spokes persons in London? Amir, Max and Stacy? Maybe this ranting is just a cultural thing there? I would be happy to have some locals here in Chile being interviewed on national TV on bitcoin and we are still in the phase where all mass exposure gives us visibility and both a clown blatantly lying about bitcoin or some professor giving financial advice to buy in will give us visibility with people who never heard a thing about bitcoin before and can't do any real harm.

Exactly.. anything that stirs people curiousity is good. That a large part of what I liked about Amir, he gets people thinking and isn't that refreshing!
320  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 04:17:08 PM
Speaking of the UK, does anyone know who the "London Whale" is? I heard a brief radio interview with him a while ago about bitcoin.

Off topic but that's probably JP Morgan's empty offering.
