can plots generated in windows be mined in linux?

Sure, its the same files. Also works the other way around.

I have 1 hdd and I use 1 address. My latest plot on hdd1 is 800000. If I add second hdd should I start make plots from 800001 or can I start from 0?

it the first is

0 800000
the secound would be
800000 800000

(no problem if you start higher)

OK, so I plot them one at a time (or one per computer I have lying around).

Am I doing different settings for each drive?  How do they differ?  Just change the starting point by 1 each time?

not just by one, but by the amount of nonces you plotted. Or just increase by 100M and you are safe.

If I am plotting 8 drives am I then running pocminer's run_generate 8 times?  Once from the folder located on each drive?

If you mean that you will generate the same plot on every drive i would advise, actually recommend using different plots.
Using the same plot is just like creating one plot and copying it to the other 7 drives (if identical).

Create your plots in sequences over all the drives. But doing this 8 times at once will require some powerfull hardware (cpu+mem) setup.

Definitely need to make sure you have enough cpu thread and system ram to plot all those simultaneously.

You really should plot them one after another. All simultaneously wont be faster - most likely slower.

How are stagger size and memory related?  (I assume that is MBs of ram?)

How does one determine optimal stagger size?

stagger size 1 is 256kb of mem, linear growing. In theory. But java needs more than that.
Go as high as your memory allows (8191 is max)

Sure hope it mines alright in my Windows box with all the others and doesn't have weird permission problems... Smiley

You can always work as root ("sudo su") and disable all this restrictions. If you really want to.

Cry

Maybe its mounted with noexec.

type "mount"

If it has the noexec attribute:

mount -o remount,exec /media/...  (the mount point)

Trying to setup pool mining and having some trouble with missing args:

Quote
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\java -Xmx1000m -cp pocminer_pool.jar;lib/*;lib/akka/*;lib/jetty/* pocminer_pool.POCMiner generate
*address* 1 1750000 4000 4
pause

Am I referencing the correct library? Java noob over here.

Yes, but for 4000 stagger size it needs more than 1000m memory. Try 3000m or stagger size 1000.

Sure thing.

Code:
-rw------- 1 generator generator 22629 Aug 28 16:31 plot

Its not executable!

chmod +x plot

should do it  Wink

Tried with and without the sudo.  Somehow I didn't have write permissions on the drive that I formatted under this user.  I played around with chmod but who knows what that did... It also gave it a crazy weird numbered name.  Linux...

Show us what you did:

ls -la

they are difference between one big TB plot and one TB splitted in 10 smaller plots?

is possible merge plots? i made many plots due to prevent crash system..

No difference, as long as its not 100's of plots. Just use them as they are.
312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient POC Mining | Update to 1.0.3 before block 6500 on: August 28, 2014, 07:08:17 PM
What are the important things for mining burst? Could i mine with an old CPU and 2x2TB ore more? How much RAM is usefull? What is with the transferspeed? Could i use more USB Drives?
Is it better to use Linux? Questions over Questions...i hope someone hav answers for me...thanks al lot :-)

The plot settings 0 51200 1000 2 are ok, but thats just 12GB. You need to generate a lot more plot files to get good deadlines. Ram? With linux you can start with 1GB, with windows & java you need 2GB+. The 2x2TB setup will get you way better results.
Slow transfer speeds like with USB2 can slightly reduce your block finding chances, but its still worth it.
313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient POC Mining | Update to 1.0.3 before block 6500 on: August 28, 2014, 06:16:44 PM
Can anyone explain how to install and use dcct's plot generator for Linux dummies?

I tried last night with the two commands in the OP using Ubuntu and only got an error like 'command "plot" not recognized'.  I'm at work now so I can't get the exact details but it sounds like I screwed something up...  I guess there's a chance I wasn't using 64 but Ubuntu - I just grabbed an old DVD I burned but the plot command should still do something, shouldn't it?

EDIT: Yes I was in the correct directory.  The ls command showed plot, the original .tgz I had extracted as well as all the other files that extracted and compiled with it.

type in:
uname -a

x86_64 in there?

If I had a 8x3TB RAID0 or JBOD span, what generate numbers should I use?

Would I want a single plot?

You'd be better off using each drive on its own. Try 11000000 nonces for each drive.

8tb hdd's announced, maybe something to be watching out for.

They will be expensive regarding $/TB. At the moment 3/4TB drives are best.

It would mine with no problems, rightr?  I'd open the wallet file and start the miner and it'd be no different than if that drive were installed and plotted in that computer right from the start?

Sure, you can mine there, too.

Hey can we seriously get a multipool?

We need that and coinmarketcap to add us.

Multi pool will add nice buy pressure. I can also use my mining rig for more BURST =D

The multipool isn't necessary at the moment, but coinmarketcap is. I sent them a tweet and will send them a suggestion/request on the forum.

Anyone have a url link for the logo? Need it for sending a request for coinmarketcap.

Speaking of logo. Is that the one we are going with?

I know the dev hasn't premined anything for bounties but I am thinking a community bounty for a logo contest is a great idea.

I will pledge the first 5,000

We need a logo that is voted on. (Even though I personally like the current one)

I'll throw 5k in on the bounty. Smiley

I'll add another 5k

it's mean, plot's are not working?
Or it's just attention

Just a few MB of wasted space. They still work.

on what depends the deadline?

On the size of your plotfiles & your luck

how can i set the deadline?

You cant  Wink

Submitting share
{"result":"success","deadline":3560}

I have any change of getting one block with this deadline ? if not what is the best deadline i need to get one block ...

~0.1% chance with this deadline.

50% with deadline 240

2 Questions.

1. Do i have to generate the complete plot before i can begin to mine: Actuall generating is running and if i start mining, i get an access error on the plot
2. could i create multiple files perhaps von 1 to 800000, then next file from 800001 to 1600000?

Best Regards
boba

Both questions: Yes, you can. The miner will use whats already plotted.
