Buy support is really quite high while the sell support has dropped off enormously these last couple of hours. Good indicators?

Can we start a fund to raise capital for a full time developer or two perhaps?

I think that's a good idea but it's one that would probably be better voiced within the reddit subreddit.

Not as far as I know - the list of things I know I don't know is extremely long, the things I don't know I don't know infinite.

You and me both.

Thanks for the input - I always enjoy reading your posts.

Apologies if this has already been discussed previously.

For the last three weekends we've seen a spike in price. Anyone have any theories as to why this happens at the weekend? To say that it's caused by an influx of weekend warriors seems to simply beg the question.

I think its true there are indeed weekend warriors esp with the alts, in the US I suspect college kids who spend their time trading and using profits to buy drugs for the following weekends trading.  The troll boxes are often full of folks trading and regaling stories of their current substance intake.  And now that we have DN adoption I suspect non traders are buying xmr at the weekend for purchases the following week too.

When BTC was being led by China the weekends would be quieter with upturns in volume on the Monday.

Its a difficult one to get a handle on; as soon as you think a pattern is emerging something will happen to turn it on its head.

Thank you.

Do we have any indications yet that the Chinese are buying heavily into Monero? I've read that the main catalysts for Bitcoin at the time were DNM's and the Chinese. We have a good chance at getting the DNM's. Are we there yet with the Chinese? Do you know if we need to be offered on the Chinese exchanges for that to happen?

Some nice movement going on.

What potential conflict of interest were you referring to? What do you believe to be Roger Ver's true motive? Do you believe he made a substantial investment in Monero, which was more than in any other altcoin?

Roger Ver is an investor in zcash: https://z.cash/team.html

I've just been looking at the zcash site -- they all seem like a very shiny bunch, about as far removed from the ideals of the early BTCers as you could imagine.  My first impression was...the Apple of crypto and it makes me wonder why such a bunch would be interested in privacy.  They seem quite forthright that they are in it for the wealth.

But I suspect a lot of funds will flow from the PnDpers who will see a ground floor opportunity.

I just don't trust them. A "legitimate" anonymous cash, in the end, I just don't think will be anonymous. You can be sure the agencies are following them closely, if not involved (though I do believe the source will be made public?) I just think they must have been compromised along the way - we are talking enslavement, I mean money here.

I'm sure a lot of work is going into here: https://z.cash/blog/auditing-zcash.html

Yes,  I completely agree with those thoughts.  There is something of a disconnect as if you are being sold something illicit by a bunch of people who work in the criminal justice system.

What seems so disappointing is that so many* of the younger folks here seem ready to follow this rather than XMR.

*completely anecdotal judgement based on a small and unscientific sample

Heavily premined coin plus the fact you need to trust them 100% to have destroyed the initialization seed made me decide to not buy Zerocoin at all. Even though purely technical it's math is superior to Monero. But with Moneoro I don't need to trust anyone (let alone untrustworthy people!)

You and I might feel that way but will the rest of the market? ZCash will be the New Kid in Town and, as such, the Poloniex kids are going to love it. The market thrives on shiny new coins and ZCash will be the shiniest of them all given the money and backing it has.

I admit that I'm worried it will affect Monero's recent rise.

for humor's sake, not saying i'd really do it, but i'd totally drink a shoot of kurious' urine after kurious has drank 24 h of only vintage champagne if the price ever hits the current mc of eth.  Roll Eyes

We'll put it down to Monero fever.

My take is that the market is looking for a new Bitcoin - it wants desperately to replicate the experience of 2013. I wasn't involved in cryptocurrencies then and I imagine that the majority of people on Poloniex weren't either. We know about the great run of 2013 but we never experienced it ourselves. And we want to. Everyone does. Everyone wants the thrill of watching a currency taking off and not coming back down. We want the excitement, we want the sense of being winners in the right place at the right time, and we want the riches that come with it.

Most on Poloniex are agnostic when it comes to coins. They're only interested in the ones that are going to do it for them. Ethereum flew for a while but ultimately couldn't repeat the Bitcoin success because, fundamentally, no-one really knows what the fuck it does. The DAO farce was another nail in its coffin.

Monero has no pretensions to being anything other than what it is - fungible currency. People can get behind that and I believe they will.

According to Roger Ver, Bloomberg is writing an article on Monero today:

https://forum.bitcoin.com/monero/monero-price-speculation-thread-t10274.html#p29070

Could be another big day for Monero.

I have a hunch that they will release the gui wallet sometime before Monero trading on AlphaBay begins on Sept 1.

Soon..
Not happening. Too many issues still unresolved in github. Last I heard, the dev was going away traveling for a few days. So don't hold your breath.

And goodbye to $4.  Never again, I think.  Thanks for the Monero!

Ever?

A lot of commits from the Dev on the official GUI this past 24 hours. As far as I can see there are no outstanding issues.

https://github.com/mbg033?tab=activity

I would speculate we're almost there.

Soon

Actually there were quite a few commits today in the repository. So maybe sooner than soon?

The future of Count Monero? A funny post in Reddit:

Thanks for your response. So can anyone put up a fake wall or do you have to have the potential resources to do so before Poloniex allows you to do it? In other words, can only real whales put up fake walls?
Lastly, are walls, either fake or real, an issue for all currencies or is Monero blighted by them more than most?

Anyone can put up a wall if they have the monero to do so, or the btc for a buywall.  You just have to put an order on the book.
Obviously you cannot put up a 40k sell wall without actually having 40k monero.  (You could do it with margin by borrowing, but you would be paying interest to keep it there, and would get wrecked if it was bought).

All orders are 'real' while they are up on the book.  By saying a wall is 'fake' or 'real', I mean that the creator of the wall secretly doesnt want a fake wall to execute, and would remove the order if they thought it was going to execute.  The risk of a fake wall is that anyone can go buy it at any time its up there, and then the order becomes very real indeed.

In the stock markets, doing that would be illegal (but most of the time there wouldnt be a way to catch you).

Monero has had a lot of big sell walls recently, over the past few weeks.  But its not the onyl coin where this happens, it happens in most.

Thanks. That helps to dampen my paranoia a little.  Smiley
