I am researching the circumstances of and the justification for Darkcoin's change of name to 'Dash'. I have found some of the comments made in this thread interesting. I have also posted on the Dash Bitcoin Forum pages 5094-5097 regarding this and have received some responses.

The person that asked the question above regarding ownership of an open source project is under an incorrect assumption. The github account owner owns that account, and the product name - copyright. Even if he makes his code open sourced, as Bitcoin did, and Dashcoin did. He had every right to sell his account to someone else. Just because he sold the account, doesn't mean that anyone who wants to continue the project can't. Any developer who wants to, can copy the code and deposit it in a new Github account and continue on as if nothing ever happened. Depending on internet speed, this should take less than 5 minutes. It was considered dead due to the original developer abandoning the project(paid to abandon the project) and the lack of activity nor interest in the project(bullshit). As soon as the word got out that Evan bought the project, scammers went in to buy up as much of the coins as they could hoping they could BS their way to making it worth something again(bigger bullshit). It doesn't matter. They have not been in any way hindered from continuing the project, hence Evan and the original owner have caused no harm to that dead coin(only evan caused harm). The Github repository was only needed to stake a trademark claim on the name, which is a perfectly legal and often used tactic in the business world. I don't even think anyone cares if Dashcoin continues to use the name. We dropped the "coin" part and are only going by DASH. (so if you only need "dash" without the "coin" why not just make dash? why sabotage dashcoin?) ANSWER: darkcoin wanted to prove they are already using dash for commerce since last year because they are competing with a company for the trademark of "DASH" ...and darkcoin wanted no other coin with "dash" in its name..like dashcoin  There is no legal issue lurking ready to leap at this project, although anyone willing to pay the price can always file a suit. I highly doubt they have any possible imaginable leg to stand on, but if they want to spend the money, and pay for our fees, god bless them. ... but the biggest vote for me comes from Dash (Darkcoin) itself, in buying Dashcoin's website and trying to usurp Dashcoin's name - they must value it!
the reasons i liked this coin is the name "dashcoin" i even called it dash, the very low cost of its maintenance, and it is the clone of the first cryptonote coin (bytecoin) which is still being developed and without the 82% premine...if the dashcoin community becomes bigger and fun, i would like dashcoin even more. if dashcoin implements it 10000:1 coin reduction and enters BTC market, imagine the confusion darkcoin made...this thread will become really bloody when dash/darkcoin buddies enters here |

hi! everyone, just started mining few days ago with DSH coin, i use GUI wallet. a bit confused at the beginning but managed to have my dashcoin. ok created two wallet inside the GUI client (or whatever you call it) all works.
somehow i experience crashing of the GUI, and that's the problem now i have trouble to open the the 2nd wallet that i created. pls. help, i tried whatever i think can do unfortunately NO LUCK... i can't open it.
the GUI says wait for the wallet to sync then after it synced enter my password click open wallet it says after wallet disconnected. whew.... any idea or help appreciated.
try to open those wallets using the CLI wallet, there is a sub directory called "wallets" the files are in there. i'm using CLI ever since, it is very reliable. use the older version (version 1.0.2.358) of CLI since the gui wallet was made during the time when wallet files contain 3 files the *.bin, *.address.txt , and *.keys link for wallet version 1.0.2.358 was in old dashcoin thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=678232.0here http://sourceforge.net/projects/dashcoin/files/dashcoin-windows.zip/download |

i wouldn't say "a few" just look at dashcoin previous OP (july 2014): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=678232.0 ..many people were involved, maybe they turned off their miners or left or sold or holding, but the price justifies that..heck the world of crypto is depressed. billions and billions are for sale at poloniex.com and dashcoin is very cheap. if you and other people buy and mine there will be more hands that will have dashcoins. when time comes there will be only millions on exchanges for sale..(just convert 10000:1 for the future) it is almost a year of mining and trading dashcoins and you are still standing aside, get some! how did they steal something that was sold to them? sold by previous dev and bought by evan duffy dick(instigator)..........it was stolen from dashcoin community. |

Bytecoin faked dates in fake blockchain to facilitate an 82% premine, and CryptoNote backed them up. Bytecoin, Fantomcoin, Quazarcoin, Monetaverde, Dashcoin are all from the same people and should be avoided like the fucking black plague. duckNote and Boolberry are probably from them as well, or are at least just fucking dodgy, and who the fuck cares anyway. Monero would have been fucking dodgy, but the community saved it. Make your own mind up about shit and demand that known people are involved and that there is fucking transparency.
So someone new shows up to the BCN thread and smooth post this tl;dr of the cryptonote/bcn scam. This is just ROFL! Let me get this straight... If so where is the actual evidence? If "moneros" just do trolling - it's just a sign of bad upbringing and community. But if they support the outright fraud, deceiving inexperienced users and fraudulently forcing them to buy "counterfeit DASH"(DSH) - it is a crime already... So Monero is criminally organizing and supporting the scam (promoting DSH as DASH)... No wonder... such a gang. I wouldn't bother with engaging these individuals it is beneath us. +1 attacking dashcoin only makes it stronger. |
