3081  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where is giveaway thread? on: June 08, 2021, 09:00:18 PM
I want to earn free BTC
Earn is to acquire thorough your effort, it's basically what you deserve. Earn and free do not go together.
If you wish to earn Bitcoins then offering a service is the best way to go. Bitcoin is a valuable asset and people are willing to pay you for a service you can render. Signature campaigns are an option, but you need to offer value to the campaign you are applying for, this is by your posting habit.

To get free bitcoins, maybe join a giveaway contest, like the one you applied for in your most recent post. I would however advice you that looking to milk the forum straight out of the bat is a bad look and would limit you from actually benefiting from this forum.
3082  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The views of developed countries with developing countries on bitcoin on: June 08, 2021, 08:05:51 PM
Personally speaking, maybe yes, but what happened was not as expected, the Chinese state limited bitcoin because of the large amount of hidden data, so it was feared that many hackers would attack, due to increasingly powerful resources.
There is no hidden data on Bitcoin, all transactions and addresses are public and traceable. Governments which ban Bitcoin do so because they fear the freedom of the citizens and use money as a medium to control the public. Hackers and scammers can use other sources to carry out their activities.
3083  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking escrow that support accounts on: June 08, 2021, 04:09:30 PM
I will select only best reputation users.
No escrow with a good reputation on the forum would mediate account sales as it is frowned upon and would hurt his/her reputation. Account sales are discouraged and sometimes attract flags or red trust, there's also high risk of getting scammed as you will likely not get a reliable escrow.
Better to get a personal account and use that. If you need a higher ranked account to maybe post images or send higher number of PMs, copper membership would give those privileges
3084  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The views of developed countries with developing countries on bitcoin on: June 08, 2021, 04:04:03 PM
Personally, I think the distinction is not due to the level of development but rather the style of leadership (when it comes to Bitcoin). Developed nations like China, with one of the world's best economies is hostile to cryptocurrencies while far less developed nation's are very accommodating. This is cause the Chinese government is a restrictive one, and opposes the freedom and transparency which Bitcoin offers.

Governments which are transparent and progressive (developed or not) would create a welcoming development for Bitcoin.
3085  Economy / Reputation / Re: Forum made *Legendary Member on: June 08, 2021, 03:05:44 PM
Legendary member rank unlocked.
I had stopped paying attention to this thread for a while, but noticed I achieved the legendary member rank today after a couple of years on the forum. Rank doesn't translate to knowledge and there's so much to learn in the crypto space, so we're all kind of newbies (or I am  Grin), but it feels good to reach the highest forum rank.

Special regards to Cryptopreneurbrainboss and other members who considered some of my posts to be mrit worthy, and a for lower ranks members; I wasn't considered a single merit to be an irksome task, but if you can get one, you can get 1000.
3086  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Let's say you have a large amount of BTC and you on: June 08, 2021, 02:56:13 PM
I guess that he wanted to say diversify portfolio. I guess that there aren't many ways yet to buy stocks or properties with Bitcoin.
I guessed so. I wasn't quite correcting the OP, but rather the idea that exchanging other assets to Fiat is a form of investment or the pure form of all assets. Some people still consider fiat in the bank to be a form of investment.

That's not easy even with mixers. You just mix it with another bitcoin address but how will you go out to cash?
It's still the same. The trace will be the exit point where you would sell your bitcoin to another person and he would need all your details for that to happen.
Op was probably talking about how to convert without it being linked to the original source of the Bitcoins. If mixed into different addresses and spent in bits, there would be no link to the original transaction.
3087  Other / Meta / Re: Effect Of Plagiarism In Forum. on: June 08, 2021, 02:01:15 PM
As you know, Bitcointalk doesn't have resizing buttons available when you create new posts.
I'm aware there is no specific button for resizing, but entering a text into the image tags would adjust the image sized, such as what k used in the image linked above:
Code:
[img height=120]https://i.imgur.com/Fssg7Uo.jpg[/img][hr]
Not sure if it's what you're referring to.

On bitcointalk, even if you prove image plagiarism, and plagiarist admits it, he still won't get banned
It could be the mods prefer not to interfere in image plagiarism as it's a grey area, so they rather avoid making a decision. It would be better to hear directly from a mod, if it's a ban-able offense.
3088  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You need to read this if you are still new to crypto space on: June 08, 2021, 07:23:41 AM
Probably when that hype on defi swaps dies down, the hackers will return back to targeting the exchange and you won't what your funds to be there when this does occur.
Some would argue that their funds are insured and in cases of hacks some of the centralized exchanges would repay the funds lost, there are however other risks involved when staking;
• The funds could lose value overtime due to supply shocks while your funds are locked up,
• Exchanges could decide to lock/seize your funds at their discretion,
• Your privacy is exposed,

Also, the insurance would depend on the extent of the back, if it renders the exchange insolvent, recovering funds would be a hassle.
3089  Other / Meta / Re: Effect Of Plagiarism In Forum. on: June 08, 2021, 06:22:49 AM
The plagiarism rule doesn't apply to pictures because the picture itself contains evidence of its origin. If I were to post the below image, I am not trying to misrepresent it as my own creation. If you quoted my post, you would see this link that leads to where I got it from.
The link would only appear if you insert the link directly from the website into the image tag, but if I were to download the same image and upload it on some other platform like imgur, it will not show any link to the original source Here's the link you would get -
Code:
https://i.imgur.com/Fssg7Uo.jpg
And here's the image:

Plagiarism does apply to images cause it can be stolen, but it's difficult to prove, probably the reason why it is not strictly enforced.
3090  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Let's say you have a large amount of BTC and you on: June 08, 2021, 05:12:29 AM
Agreed, you could run the funds through a mixer and then take out small chunks but then even with that depending on the security of your country you might still be flagged up because of the mixer.
If you use a peer to peer platform, than bank would be unaware of the source of the funds, the only information available would be that Mr Joey sent a certain amount of fiat to Mr Billy, with no detail about Bitcoin or mixing services. Only when using a centralized exchange can the bank interfere.

Best way is to try to find assets to buy with crypto and then sell those assets for fiat.
This is a quite complicated for some people, except in places where Bitcoin is not that popular. You could risk with other digital assets, binds or futures.
3091  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Let's say you have a large amount of BTC and you on: June 07, 2021, 09:21:19 PM
The issue with P2P is you still have to submit bank details for payment, which would create a link between the source of the Bitcoins and you. If for example you get your funds through this forum, then your forum profile could be linked to your real life identity. For better privacy, you should use a mixing service like chipmixer, or coinjoin the funds to blur the flow of the transaction.
If it's a large sum, it could be flagged by your bank, so smaller transactions would be better.

want to spend it / invest it / transform it in fiat
Converting to Fiat is not an investment, spend it feels more appropriate (even though Bitcoin is also a form of money)
3092  Other / Archival / Re: SCAM Not Moderated? on: June 06, 2021, 09:58:11 PM
There is something am not cleared of, Are you directly or indirectly saying scammers are allowed to carry out any cybercrime related activities with them being mod? I don't think scams aren't mod because this forum is to encourage it's users and not devastating from the forum
The forum has the trust system and flag system features (you can search them up). These systems are meant to check and prevent scams by warning other members of potential scammers, there's also the scam accusations board, where you can report potential scam situations; However there is no official forum rule about scams because,
• it can have so many grey areas and be difficult to prove,
• members could have a false sense of security.
3093  Other / Archival / Re: SCAM Not Moderated? on: June 06, 2021, 09:41:20 PM
So, after all, the scam was moderated before, or was it the arbitrariness of a particular moderator, who in fact did not have the right to make such changes to the topic name and in the topic itself?
If a certain number of users report a particular member or support a flag against that member, a warning would be shown for newbies and guests and older members would see a '#' sign in their trust, this is a direct forum warning, acting on the reports of the community and is very similar to what this mod did;

Quote
There are user complaints about fraud.

Moderator
The mod is referring to complaints from other members and putting up a warning that everyone who visits the thread can easily see, similar to the forum's scam warning message.
3094  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies panicking. on: June 05, 2021, 10:32:45 PM
Fear is what makes novices sell their coins.
Poor financial decisions from before they invested also plays a role in panic. If one did not do due their research and jumped into the market without considering DCA, or liquidity risk they will be exposed to losses.
• Someone who invests 5% of their liquid worth into Bitcoin would be more relaxed during dips than another who invests >70%,

• Also, someone who takes up different buy positions with varying or fixed amount of cash may be more comfortable than someone who goes all in at one value with no risk management strategy.
3095  Other / Meta / Re: Elon Musk threads are moved to Off-topic ? on: June 05, 2021, 08:10:57 PM
Why not then close the bitcoin discussion section as everything which is discussed on the bitcoin discussion board can be fitted in the WO thread  Roll Eyes
That's quite a reach to try and prove your point. A quick glance through the first page of the Bitcoin discussion boards is not wild speculations, so majority of the threads actually belong there. Elon musk's tweet discussions are usually about how he effects the price of cryptocurrencies, so they would fit in the WO thread, off topic is also a good destination or speculation board.

Maybe a “Tweet Observer” thread should be created in Speculation.
Bitcoin Twitter on bitcointalk? That would be a fun party, but with very little actual useful content. Investors should stop paying attention to influencers, but rather to their investments.
3096  Other / Meta / Re: enquiry on: June 04, 2021, 03:00:35 PM
Considering this is a newbie question, it would be more suitable in Beginners & Help. There is an option to move topic at the bottom right of this page.

Progress on this platform is basically determined by how much you learn and how much you can impact in others, joining constructive discussions and keeping to the forum rules are simple ways you can advance. Merits, ranks and activities are all secondary and most likely products of constructive conversations, focus more on learning.
If you want to interact in a smaller sub-community, you can look for your local board where you can communicate more freely.
3097  Other / Meta / Re: A modest proposal to support the forum team on: June 04, 2021, 02:52:50 PM
You have nice intentions and a dedication to help the forum, which is rare for newer members. As already mentioned, a fund for moderators may be superfluous, as the admins have already organized a reward scheme to encourage them, but there are a many other ways you can help out in your own way;
• Firstly by keeping the forum rules, this does the job of the mods for them, if you avoid spamming, plagiarizing, etc, you reduce the work load on the mods,
• Report rule breakers to the mods to help keep the forum clean,
• Encourage other members with support (kind words, advice, merits etc),
• If you really wish to donate, there are charities you can support both on and off the forum,

Also, since this forum is centered around Bitcoin, promoting its use in your locality, running a full node and promoting decentralization are all ways you can help Bitcoin adoption.
3098  Other / Meta / Re: Help request - legendary user "slush" tagged as a scammer during forum hack on: June 03, 2021, 07:42:11 PM
- Add positive ratings to tip the scales maybe?
- Beg Theymos for help in this odd case?
- Any other creative ideas?
- Anything that slush himself can do?
• Positive ratings are earned for trust worthy behavior, it is sometimes given as counter feedback to negative, but when the person who left the negative feedback is still active and on DT, it's not usually done (except majority of people distrust their judgement, in which case they won't last long as DT members).
• The trust system is a user regulated one and the admins rarely intervene.

Your best bet is to wait for replies from the messaged members as they are the only ones who can remove the feedback.
3099  Other / Meta / Re: frodocooper nolonger a mod, what could have happened? on: June 02, 2021, 09:25:03 PM
What exactly are the roles that staff members do, that are different from those mods do?
I'm not sure of the exact boundaries of their roles and there's not much information available. I believe mods are restricted to their boards, while staffs can function on various boards just like global mods, except global mods have some extra privileges such as restoring posts moved to trash can.

Do staff members get paid?
I believe they do.
3100  Other / Meta / Re: An Alternative to Merit on: June 02, 2021, 07:42:43 PM
We don't know that. Since the new forum software is still being developed, it is difficult to say what features it will have or won't have.
As every platform changes over time, so will bitcointalk. If enough people show an interest, the administration might take that into consideration.
I briefly forgot about the new forum software, and if I remember correctly, a thank option was suggested as a new feature in it, although the completion of the new forum has been long delayed, lots of users have stopped waiting for it.

I don't know why everyone compares the forum to Facebook.
The Upvote/Downvote feature on Reddit is a very useful tool. It is unlikely that the platform would be as popular as it is today without it.
There's no comparison to Facebook, just that a like and dislike option would have little practical use besides popularity if everyone is allowed to give it out freely. Upvote and downvote may work on Reddit, but this forum already has a quality grading system - the merit system. Adding another layer to it is somewhat superfluous, imo.
