In my research to learn more about cryptocurrency and from the discussions I have come across on this platform, I noticed that Bitcoin happens to be the center of focus. No matter the crypto we are talking about, it is somehow traced back to Bitcoin. Is it because Bitcoin's price is more massive?.
That is cause this is Bitcoin-talk forum. It was founded by the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi.

There is a section dedicated to altcoins, but any other section was designed for discussions centered around Bitcoin.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suddenly I'm curious, do I need to pay taxes on Bitcoin income? on: April 30, 2024, 09:24:12 AM
I asked chatgpt, and it answered that Bitcoin transactions are generally subject to tax,
Bitcoin transactions are not subject to tax, they are pseudoanonymous, meaning they can't be traced to any individual. Just a signature from one address sending coins to another address. What can be taxed is when you liquidate your Bitcoin to fiat, taking profits.

You should be aware of the crypto regulation in your country through proper research, before making a purchase.
5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin for newbies like me on: April 29, 2024, 02:08:17 PM
Not all citizens in a country where Bitcoin legal tender, feel happy if other citizens use Bitcoin as a payment method. They have to accept it because of legal tender status but they can feel unhappy if they are not ready to hold bitcoin for a while, can not bear on chain transaction fee and some other things.
Businesses want to maximize profits however the cash flow is coming in. They can set up a payment processor, converting Bitcoin to fiat immediately the payment is made. This is what most businesses, which do not want to hold Bitcoin but still want to give a option to those who use it, do.

My reservation with El Salvador is the citizens being forced to use a particular service to use Bitcoin. That's not the freedom Bitcoin is about.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin for newbies like me on: April 29, 2024, 01:40:56 PM
One small correction is that Bitcoin is the currency of El Salvador at the moment, so at least one country uses it as a legal tender.

This doesn't however matter much cause Bitcoin does not need legal approval from governments to function and those taxing it see it as an asset or a commodity.
7  Other / Meta / Re: ThemePen - Merit Source Application on: April 29, 2024, 01:27:33 PM
It sticks out that from December to January there was a significant drop in posts even though there was an increase in merit during that time. This could suggest that merits are not the driving factor for posts and should not be used as an incentive to increase the number of posts, what you need more of is quality posts.

Good luck with your merit source application, this is my first time of coming across your profile, which should indicate that you dedicate most of your time to your local board or you frequent boards I do not often. Theymos determines who is reputable enough, so the choice is his. The forum needs as much merit sources as it can get.
8  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk features I've wondered about on: April 29, 2024, 10:32:51 AM
Telegram, discord and reddit are among the top most used social handles for crypto users and are also anonymous (except discord which can be a hassle to get around without including phone number) so one can easily brand them around their forum moniker and those offering services will but need to find other ways to include their contact details.

This is however not a immediate need, there are ways around it and as the 'then' admin pointed out, it will not be so easy to do.

I've never enabled that feature due to how weird it was. I just don't see it being useful at all unless they're using a company email or are aware of the risks.
There is you answer. Whenever there is an option that can be toggled on and off its usually because there are those that'll need it and those that won't. The security risk is also why it's off by default.
9  Other / Meta / Re: What is the Impact of Accurate Reporting on User Profiles on: April 29, 2024, 10:23:02 AM
Being a good reporter does not make a user any more trustworthy, but I can see how that will improve reports and help the mods and forum in general.

If you are helping with reports now the benefit is you get a much cleaner forum free from spam and other annoying habits which make boards difficult to read through.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No risk no gain on: April 28, 2024, 07:47:55 PM
If you invest your 100% of what would have been your half of the capital, you'll get the exact sameprodit as if you both had invested and you shared the profit. You could have easily bought with the amount you had and held for as long as you would have planned to.

Secondly you never compel someone else to invest in anything. You're putting unnecessary risk on yourself as you'll take the blame if that investment goes south. Only give them information that can help them make up their mind on their own.

Thirdly, you still have the opportunity to take a risk now. Bitcoin still has a way to go in this bull run.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Profit evaluation – Hodl instead of mining on: April 28, 2024, 07:00:55 PM
If you do enough research you'll be able to properly set up your mining station all on your own, but to be profitable you'll need a lot of capital and constant/cheap access to electricity. For an average investor hodling is far more accessible than mining, you can start off with any amount of capital you have, you can buy steadily over periods of time and it doesn't cost you anything to set up a wallet.

It is also not a comparison, many miners are still holders. You don't have to do one or the other, if the conditions are right for you, give mining a shot.
12  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Consensys on: April 28, 2024, 05:08:55 PM
The SEC takes advantage of the complete lack of legislation in the cryptosphere.
It looks more like abusing the freedom there is in the crypto space and also contradicting their own regulation attempts.

This will be a very interesting case to follow and should get as much public attention other crypto related suits have gotten. The SEC has been pushing on crypto related platforms, it will be good if is is met with good resistance this time.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is United States going against custodial lightning wallets? on: April 27, 2024, 04:15:16 PM
Phoenix wallet was non-custodian the last time I checked. Is that an error of they've made changes to their mode of operation?[/size]
It is not noncustodial.
I'll put them somewhere in the middle. They claim to be non custodial on their website and have done so for many years, but to function as a lightening network wallet they do have some levels of custody.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What is the important of running a node? on: April 27, 2024, 04:02:03 PM
Nodes do not store the same amount of information, some keep data longer than others, some are full nodes and others are pruned nodes. They receive broadcasted transactions, validate it and add that to their mempool.

But my question now is that how does this explanation works when running a node on a PC?
I'm not sure what your question is. A PC is the preferred device to run a node on.

And what is the important of running a node?
• You contribute to the decentralization of the network.
• You help validated transactions,
• You improve your privacy.

The United States are shutting down all privacy platforms that are available. Controlling the flow of money is their biggest strength, these channels gives people an alternative system to use, moving amounts they cannot trace or regulate.
16  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: The airstrikes begin... (Phoenix Wallet) on: April 27, 2024, 05:26:21 AM
It already began months back, the noose is just getting tighter with time. The best alternative could have been to move to a more privacy friendly country, but not everyone has that freedom and countries change their laws constantly.

As a side note, that quote from theymos was made this month, 2-3 days back. Is it a bug that's causing it to show February as the date or you quoted it wrong?
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can a seed phrase on steel or titanium sheet survive this flood? on: April 26, 2024, 08:32:44 PM
It will depend on how thick the plates are and the extent of the flood. If it is one that destroys properties, searching through the ruble in search of anything is not easy to do and more often than not, you'll not be the first one back on the scene as rescue operations will be ongoing.

If you secured it in a safe or any other heavy household appliance that can narrow down the search, but that again will depend on how big the building is which will tell us how much ruble it will be buried under.
18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Has anyone tried Xeggex ? on: April 26, 2024, 04:30:14 PM

Take a look at some other reviews it has, I pay extra attention to the negative reviews when assessing a website. I've never personally used this website.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miners revenues drop to the lowest in years as Runes fomo fades away on: April 26, 2024, 04:24:38 PM
This is the case when the mining reward gets splht in half. Fees spiked up momentarily after the halving and compensated for the drop in rewards but that wasn't going to last. Miners have always been aware of the halving event which occurs at exactly every 210k blocks, so they have factored it into their operations and prepared for the drop in reward.

Solo miners have been getting wiped off steadily for some time now. Best way to earn is to join a pool.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC wallet to digital artpiece on: April 26, 2024, 03:09:31 PM
How do you plan to make this into an art piece? You do not have any prove that you own the wallet, so you will be be able to claim ownership of any artpiece that can be made from it, if it can be done.

Sorry for your loss, but you should stop tracking the wallet now, it's not good for your mental health.
