I'm so sorry to hear about your medical struggles, Bruno.

I know you and I haven't had a lot of interaction, but your contributions the forum have been quite a bright spot for me.  Being somewhat new to the cryptosphere it made me feel a bit giddy whenever I find contemporary posts made by legends such as yourself.  I wish you the best in the remaining time you spend among us.

Your humor and wit will be missed, amigo.

Thank you for contributing to my exit scam.

Not quite what I picture when I hear "exit scam," but an apt description for someone with your sense of humor.  I only wish I could contribute more.
3102  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Lightning Demo on: March 30, 2020, 05:41:15 PM
I'm running it from source.

I installed python on my Win10 machine, installed all the dependencies, and then tried to run Electrum from source myself, but I got stuck with this error:

Code:
Error: Failed to load libsecp256k1.

I did a little google search and came across this issue posted on github: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/5976

I literally laughed out loud when I saw who posted the issue; "hey I know that guy," I said to myself.  I'm at the office today, so I don't have time to try compiling the libsecp256k1-0.dll, and I don't have a Linux vm installed on my work machine anyway (time to fix that.)

But, I assume that worked for you, and that's all I need to run Electrum from source on my Windows 10 machine?
3103  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Naober is a scammer/ ban him in forum on: March 30, 2020, 05:27:44 PM
@kalyandurrgaprasad, I'm sorry for your loss.  I wish there was some way to recover your funds, but unfortunately there isn't.  Bitcoin is not reversible, which is what makes it special.  It's an advantage for those of us who want to use it for legitimate purposes, but many will abuse it for the same reason.  That's why it's very important to research your trading partners, and make sure they are trustworthy.  If you are still not confident then you should insist on using escrow.  If the other party insists on not using escrow, that should be the one and only red-flag you need to abandon the trade.

This forum prides itself on it's adherence to freedom and liberty.  The admins do not have time to research every scam accusation, and therefore do not moderate scams.  Even if they are proven without a doubt, the mods will not step in.  That's why we have a default trust system and reviews that are also not moderated.

When you contacted me in Telegram yesterday, you asked if I know anyone with whom you can trade safely; the answer to that is no.  I'm sorry but I don't keep track of what my escrow clients are buying or selling, and I think it would be inappropriate for me to recommend some over others.

I recommend you start a thread in the digital goods, or accounts and invites section to advertise your items.  If you choose to do so, indicate in your thread that you will only deal through escrow.  By doing so you'll avoid 99% of the scammers.
3104  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: does not show my Bitcoin on Armory Wallet on: March 30, 2020, 04:31:01 PM
Armory wallet needs to synchronize with a node.  If you don't have bitcoin core running a node and you don't sync Armory wallet with it, you will not see or be able to spend your bitcoin.

If you don't want to run a node, you can extract your private key from Armory and import it into a "light" software client, such as Electrum.
3105  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Nano missing btc on: March 29, 2020, 05:49:40 PM
The current accounts showing have no transactions.  I've tried importing the csv to check logs and they're empty.  No portfolio activity.  When I initially transferred coins to my wallet I made 2 accounts on the nano.  Each with its own separate transaction from the exchange.

Ledger would have imported those accounts if you had the correct seed.

So that means that even though the address being shown when I hit the "receive" tab is different from the initial coin transfer address from a year ago, they should all be a part of the same account?  If that's so shouldn't the balance be correctly populated?

Correct.  When you click "receive" in Ledger Live it will display the next unused address.  Most wallets behave similarly.

In your case, whether you sent bitcoin to two separate addresses in the same account, or whether you created two accounts and sent bitcoin to one address in each, Ledger Live would display your entire balance if you had the right seed phrase.
3106  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Telegram run by scammer on: March 29, 2020, 05:02:06 PM
That's not a privacy feature - that's a piracy feature.

FIFY.  Yeah, I find that feature sort of odd, almost like they are enabling scammers and thieves, and it's working.  Telegram is full of scammers, but like anything else which grants a level of freedom to it's users, some will abuse that liberty.

I don't blame the platform.  It's a tool, and like any other tool it requires some skill to use it properly.  Assume anyone who contacts you out of the blue to not be who they claim they are.  Verify every contact you make.  As has been shown here there are plenty of ways to verify the user, be skeptical and diligent.

3107  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Nano missing btc on: March 29, 2020, 04:36:35 PM
When I try to add bitcoin accounts through LL I get an error in the process saying "Can't add a new account before you've received on your Bitcoin 1 (native segwit) account".

If you use Electrum you can open the other accounts, but that may not be necessary.  Does the account you have access to right now show any transactions from the past?  Was this your account, and do remember creating multiple accounts in Ledger Live?  If not then your accounts and derivation path are not likely to help.

If you want to check anyway, download Electrum from here, and here only: https://electrum.org/#download
Here's a tutorial on how to verify the download, a very important step when using Electrum: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/
Here's Ledger's tutorial on how to use your Nano with Electrum: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005161925-Set-up-and-use-Electrum

It could seem like a possibility there's not much else to explain this situation.  But to the best of my knowledge I'm sure I have the correct seed words.  This is my first and only crypto account and I was careful to check a few times while writing them down.

There's still much hope.  Compare the words you wrote down to the words in the Bip39 word list.  Look for any words similar to yours that you may have mistaken when writing down the seed phrase.

Bip39 word list: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/bip-0039-wordlists.md

I'm not sure as to how Ledger works, but is it possible that when he restored, the address with funds was "archived" or something similar, and that's why when clicking on "Receive" he is seeing a different one?

Similar to electrum using new addresses every time you click "receive"

I think you read the situation correctly.  I initially sent the coins from exchange to wallet early last year.  I've had no problems accessing and checking the balance.  But yesterday when I plugged my nano to ledger it prompted a firmware update and reset my device.  So I "restored" my wallet and now the balance is 0.

So I did hear somewhere that addresses are reset similar to what you said about electrum.  But the correct balance seems to exist on the "old" address when I check blockchain explorer.

That's not how hierarchical deterministic wallets work.  Each HD wallet can generate large numbers of wallet addresses, but they are all part of a single account.  You can generate multiple accounts by modifying the derivation paths.  All accounts will have different addresses.

The situation you describe would put all the funds into one single account, and Ledger Live would show a balance if there were funds in any of it's addresses.
3108  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Nano missing btc on: March 29, 2020, 03:57:48 PM
That's alarming.  When I made the initial transfer I checked the balance on my ledger live and had no issues.  I can check the transaction details on my exchange and those addresses matched up just fine before with the nano.  I initially hit the receive tab on ledger live to get my address and verified with the hardware, then used the native copy to clipboard button on the ledger live to input on the exchange.

I think Csmiami is asking whether you confirmed if you had written down the seed phrase correctly when you first initialized your Ledger.  It's a good habit to get into to verify your seed phrase right after you create it.  There are many ways to verify the phrase, I do so by recording a couple of the bitcoin addresses, then resetting the wallet and restoring it using the seed I just created.  The addresses I recorded and the addresses in the wallet should match after restoration.

Your current situation could be caused by one of the words in your seed phrase being incorrect.  You may have written the wrong word on your paper backup, or your backup might be correct, but you're typing one of the words wrong.  For example, I've had trouble with library and liberty in the past.  Luckily had written the right word on my paper backup, but I kept reading it wrong when I entered it into the wallet.
3109  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: March 28, 2020, 01:06:56 AM
Panthers are signing QB PJ Walker to be the backup for Teddy Bridgewater in Carolina, PJ played for Houston Roughnecks in the XFL before it was shut down. I only had the chance to watch one quarter with him against LA Wildcats, they finished 5-0, best record in the XFL. Walker will play again for his former college coach Matt Rhule (Temple University).

I got to see a couple of his XFL games, he was always fun to watch.  I knew he would land a spot on a NFL team.  Carolina is sitting pretty with Teddy Bridgwater, he's is legit but he needs some weapons.  The Panthers finally cut Cam Newton, what the fuck took them so long?  I never liked that guy, and felt he was a fluke from the get go.  He had some great numbers over the years, but his attitude was shit, and his arrogance misplaced.  I would have cut him after that bitch-ass interview he had after losing the Super Bowl back in 2004.

Can you see it?  Cheesy Cheesy

 Shocked
Where's the bleach?  I need to wash the eyeballs out of my skull!

The Rams and the 9ers have a long history, they've been at it since 1950.  Those early years were dominated by the Rams, luckily before my time.  Throughout the 80's and 90's the Niners had the Rams' number.  Even when the Rams were having a good year and 9ers sucked, it seems like we often found a way to beat them at their stadium.  We got in the habit of calling them the lambs.  The new logo (the legitimate one) with that big LA in the graphic seems to be goading us into using that nickname.  Okay, fine then, the LAmbs it is!

By far my #1 is the Cardinals, I just like that bird. Raiders is quite cool and I also like the Viking from MIN. Most boring is Chicago, and Jacksonville I never liked as well. Both New Yorks won't get any design award any time soon too.

Going purely on football logo aesthetics, I have to hand the title to the Raiders.  Their's is by the far the best looking, but it has historic significance to the Bay Area, many aren't aware.  Jack London who is a famous author (especially in these parts) wrote about the rampant piracy in and around San Francisco Bay.  In the early days before Oakland was much of a city, the pirates hid out along shores and in the dock houses in what's now Alameda and Oakland.  Pretty fucking cool.

I find the Bears', the Colts', and the Browns' logos to be cool, just from the football history standpoint.

3111  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: allow on-forum altcoin giveaways for established altcoins on: March 26, 2020, 06:51:03 PM
Doesn't this include moderators making decisions about which altcoins are shitty and which are not ?
A bit. But even the shitty ones can have value, so it will come down to whether or not they can be exchanged for Bitcoin. The next problem will be coins that are only traded on shitty exchanges. I'm glad I don't have to think of all the details, all I do is make a suggestion Tongue

The devil is in the details.  So now we're going to ask mods to decide which altcoins are shit, based on which exchanges they trade on, and whether those exchanges are shit.  I'm not saying the mods don't have the capacity to determine these things, but they're determinations might differ from mine, and vice versa.  Leaving so much up to the determination of the moderators is very likely to cause problems.

Currently there's very little stopping a casino or an exchange from creating a thread with a promotion saying "Go to our website, enter "bitcointalk.org" as a promo code, and receive 1 billion shitcoins that we now accept."  As far as I know that would not be against the rules, and no spam will result from it.

I just can't take this because I also lent him my personal money Cry that is my allowance and it's a lot for me as a student.

I'm sorry I missed this, and sorry for your loss.  How much did you lend to him?  Do you have any evidence, or chat logs?  If so feel free to post them here.  I also suggest you file a police report.
3113  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: keepkey: shapeshift different than chrome app! on: March 26, 2020, 01:18:25 PM
I've owned a keepkey for almost a couple of years now, and found that both of their native apps leave much to be desired.  I've since moved one to another brand, but before that I used the keepkey almost exclusively with Electrum.  Electrum is the only way to access your Bech32 addresses.

One security warning I should pass along; the keepkey shouldn't be used without activating a Bip39 Passphrase.  Any of the three apps mentioned will be able to do that.

m/84'/0'/0'/0/0 - P2PKH addresses, also known as "native segwit" or "bech32" addresses, which start with "bc1"

Shouldn't that be p2wpkh?  Is that a typo, or have I been mistaken?

I'll retry it periodically or open another channel, might be a connection or routing issue.
Update: Eclair failed to send through lightning too, it worked for me, tried just now (maybe your client was closed for some reason?).

I just checked it now, my channel disconnected for some reason.  Tried to restart Electrum, but still couldn't get it reconnected.  Well, that one's a gonner.  I'll open another channel and post another request tomorrow.

Okay, I'll try again, here's a request for 100 sats set to expire in 24 hours.  I'll keep the client running all night.

-Edit-
After 10 hours of waiting, no one have used my invoice, I'm going to close Electrum for now.
BRB after 10-12 hours.

Post up another.  If I don't get to it tonight, I'll be working from home tomorrow so I'll get to it in the morning.

I'd be cool with America trading our racist hate spewing knuckle-draggers for the Chinese unsanitary butchers.
Yeah, cuz there is no racism in China.

Lol.  TwitchySeal would make the perfect subject.  He believes, without question all the propaganda that corporate MSM has been feeding him, including the lie that calling a spade a spade equates to racism.  Never mind the inherent racism demonstrated by the political party he supports, and their fondness for identity politics.

Very cool drawing, definitely something I would frame and hang on my wall.  I don't know who Steven Michaels is, or if he's trustworthy enough to use the art as a cold wallet, but it appears the address has never been loaded.

Are there two separate drawings there?  The coin under the thumb looks different in two of your photos.

Would you mind sharing what you payed for the piece?
3118  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: After 6 hours still Unconfirmed transaction on: March 25, 2020, 05:48:40 PM
Like BitCryptex said, there's nothing any of us can do.  You're not likely to convince Bitstamp to bump the fees on that transaction, and their customer service reps have no authority to do that anyway.

It's just unlucky timing, but you'll get your coins.  Just be patient.

I noticed some of these accounts aren't exactly "new," the oldest one was registered 4 years ago.

Those are all indeed shit-threads, but they're mostly on topic.  I don't know if there's really anything you can do about them.  You can try reporting them, but I have a feeling they won't be deleted.

What gets me is the seasoned members starting threads with a OP like the one below, when they could have just added that bit of useless information to the shit-tonne of other threads about Covid.

This Israeli historian/philosopher figured out what the "endgame" of the "elite" will be this crisis: in short "mass surveillance"...

Just imagine what that will mean for the BTC price... Grin
