2361  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Princess Latifa's capture and disappearance, and it's bigger implications. on: February 27, 2021, 01:05:33 AM
The Saudi and UAE governments have the consent of HALF their people, even though they are not democracies. HALF Their people, by and large, are not oppressed by most standards, although they don't have the same freedoms as citizens in the US do.

FIFY, but that's not exactly what I'm debating here.  That debate has only one outcome; a troll-fest of "flatearther" proportions.

Both countries also have vast natural resources that are needed by the rest of the world.

The above means that it will be very difficult to overthrow either government because any new government installed would be viewed by their respective people as illegitimate.

This more inline with the debate I was fishing for:  I'm not proposing overthrowing anyone, and I'm not advocating for war, quite the opposite.  I'm wondering why these three-year-old atrocities are being dusted off and pranced around.
2362  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Importing electrum seed to bitcoin core on: February 27, 2021, 12:41:24 AM
So, the walktrough is perfectly valid IF you're planning to migrate from electrum to core, and never use electrum again...

I don't want to be presumptive, but I'm almost sure what mocacinno meant is that you should not use Electrum with the same wallet again.  You can still use both, but his warning is valid if you plan to keep using the same wallet in both clients.

I don't want to go on a tangent, and I think the answers given are the best method for the OP, but this brings up another question that isn't at all off topic; in this post HCP discusses using a tool designed to convert a mnemonic seed to a WIF private key which can be used as an HD seed by core.

Here's a link to the tool: https://github.com/tekbe/wallet-tools

I haven't used this method myself, and I'm not promoting the tool, but I'm curious if it can be used to obtain the WIF HD seed that correlates to the Master Private Key generated by an Electrum mnemonic seed.

A rainy day experiment, perhaps.
2363  Other / Politics & Society / Princess Latifa's capture and disappearance, and it's bigger implications. on: February 26, 2021, 09:43:49 PM
File in the "Life is stranger than fiction" directory.

Recently the BBC's Panorama documentary series broadcast the story of Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum.  She's the daughter of Shaik Mohammed Al Maktoum, the ruling monarch of Dubai, an emirate of the UAE.  The documentary is about Latifa's attempted escape from Dubai, where she felt constrained by her father, family, and traditional treatment of women in the UAE.  Latifa attempted to escape in 2018, but the attempt failed when she was captured by Indian Special Forces on a yacht in the in Indian Ocean.  Her pleas to the Indian authorities for asylum were ignored.

Here's a link to the BBC's documentary:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000sspm/panorama-the-missing-princess

Today, the Daily Mail issued a report that asserts there was a deal made between the Dubai monarchy and the Indian authorities.  Previous to the capture of Latifa, India had apparently requested the extradition of British arms dealer Christian Michel, who had been living in Dubai. Dubai had declined these request previously.  However, two weeks after Latifa's disappearance (capture) in the Indian Ocean, Christian Michel was secretly extradited to India.

Daily Mail article:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9303341/Dubais-Princess-Latifa-returned-swap-British-arms-dealer.html

Up until now there has been surprisingly little coverage of this story despite it's salacious nature and barbarity; Latifa has been imprisoned by her father for three years, and now it's not known if she's alive.  World leaders seem to be looking the other way when topics of this sort were exposed, and the main-stream media hasn't been pressing on the issue either.

In another surprisingly late move the Saudi Prince and presumptive heir to the Saudi throne, has now been implicated by U.S. intelligence in the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.  Why now?  Anyone who was paying attention knew the prince had to be involved, no one would have imagined such a thing happening without his knowledge.

The leaders of Saudi, the UAE, and others, have been doing these kinds of things for decades.  They are thugs, racketeers, and murders, but now it looks like the world is finally waking up.  What's changed?  Why are these stories being brought to light now, even though they are both three years old?
2364  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Bitpay 1 oz Silver Round Silver Rounds on: February 26, 2021, 05:57:33 PM
Someone close their eyes and draw the design for this?

Lol, it does look like an amateurish design.  Definitely not the prettiest coin I've seen, but if you want to make any coin ugly just put "BitPay" on it.  I would just as soon not support BitPay since they've done everything they can to dissuade my loyalty.

2365  Other / Meta / Re: Should the Scam Accusations & Reputation sections be more restricted/moderated? on: February 26, 2021, 12:28:19 PM
There seems to be more chaos in the last few months, as one might expect during a bull-run.  Moderators will mod, all we can do is lend a hand when we see them overwhelmed.  Report any post or thread that you think is off topic, or trolling without adding any value to the discussion.
2366  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Will NanoS / LedgerLive Trades history show in Electrum once I enter my 24 words on: February 26, 2021, 02:58:32 AM
Yes, Electrum will import all bitcoin transactions affiliated with the address from your Ledger, but that's all.  None of the altcoin transactions you may or may not have done on Ledger Live will be visible in Electrum.

If you had a "hidden" (Bip39 passphrase) account on your ledger, you'll have to enter the passphrase as an extension.  When entering the seed, click on the "Options" button and select the "Bip39," and if you have a passphrase, select "Extension."

I am Moses, BitcoinMoses, Grand Father of Bitcoin Jesus. If you do not have that sense of understanding then ask Satoshi Nakamoto ?

Wait, you are Roger Ver's grandpa?  Really?  You're one generation removed from being responsible for that idiot calling himself bitcoin jesus?  You must know he is a well known bitcoin-trash scammer, right?

Obviously something is lost in translation.  I don't think he is using the word "hero" in relation to the forum rank of the same name.  But maybe, whatever.

Maybe he's looking for people with 1000 bitcoins, and he'll ask for their private keys to admit them into his association.
2368  Economy / Lending / Re: Seeking lender(s) of ₿0.50 to ₿10.00 on: February 25, 2021, 04:44:02 PM
No collateral?  How about some more info on this highly promising company into which you'd like us to invest $500k?  Like a website, maybe?  Come on, man!  Are you such a lazy scammer that you didn't have time to create an impressive website?

You are correct that we currently do not have a public-facing website, however, we did put up our logo after your posting.

It is not advantageous to release a public-facing website while still in development mode of the client side interface.  The development of the back-end is fully completed which was accomplished through many hours of coding on our end.  We do have API documentation for developers and will allow anyone to test our software through a web-socket connection.

The loan we are seeking is to make that impressive website and mobile application for Quinto and the Quinto ₿onanza promotion.  We anticipate the development time to be approximately 60 days from the time we achieve our first goal of ₿3.00.

You don't actually want a loan but you want investors (idiots to be exact) for something that it smells HYIP/ Ponzi.
10BTC for nothing... Roll Eyes Shocked

We are only seeking a loan, not investors as outlined in our original post.

A logo?  Lol, is a logo your guarantee that you'll pay back?

Give it up, dude.  You're not scamming anyone with this BS.
2369  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMER colires, Remi Guile = SCAMMER WHICH STEALING MONEY, WARNING! on: February 25, 2021, 03:23:27 AM
First off, I'm sorry for your loss.
Second, you should never deal outside the forum.  Telegram in particular is a haven for scammers.
Third, always use a trusted escrow for these types of trades.  I little extra expense is worth the security.

Please use the scam report template, and provide evidence.

Quinto, S.A. (Sociedad Anónima), a Costa Rica Company, is pleased to introduce Quinto ₿onanza. A one-time bitcoin (“₿”) guaranteed pay-out lottery, to promote Quinto’s upcoming online casino gaming platform.

We are seeking to borrow ₿10.00 in total, in amounts of ₿0.50 or greater to help finance some development costs.  Quinto will pay a 10% origination fee (credited to the principal amount of the loan), with an 18% APR on the loan, compounded daily from receipt of funds, to be paid in full on the 1st of October 2021. As an example, if you lend us ₿1.00 on 1st of March 2021, the original principal amount of the loan will be ₿1.10 (amount lent plus 10% origination fee), which will accrue and compound daily until maturity, the balance at maturity would be ₿1.222419494.  This is approximately a 22.4% (37.70% APR) return on money lent.

Quinto ₿onanza is scheduled to launch on or before the 1st of June 2021, with a drawing to be held on the 30th of September 2021 @ 23:00 UTC.  Quinto ₿onanza is a 100% provably fair lottery game in which the Grand Prize winner will receive ₿125.00, and with 10 winners of ₿6.25 and numerous other prizes, totaling over ₿520.00.

If you want to view Quinto’s promissory note and/or know more information about our company please email us at bonanza@quinto.games.

2371  Economy / Reputation / Re: TecShare - Farewell my friend. on: February 24, 2021, 08:50:21 PM
He abused the trust system and got kicked off DT for that

He applied it the way he saw it working the best.  That may have been selfish of him, but it's no different than what any of us do.  Techshare made no secrets about his views, they're all out in the open.  He may have used it in a way that many of us disagreed with (obviously,) but the only thing he did that was even remotely abusive was retaliatory exclusions.  Seems rather low and the "Trust System Abuse" scale, don't you think?  And, are we really so petty that we're going to nitpick "abuse" by someone who isn't even here anymore?  Isn't the point moot now?

I don't think we should celebrate assholes after they leave a community

That's uncalled for.  If you have something critical to say in this thread, at least have the courtesy and respect to articulate it without hurling vulgarities.
2372  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Compatibility Of 12 Words Trezor Model T Seed...With Other Wallets on: February 24, 2021, 08:10:16 PM
Yes, Trezor generates a Bip39 seed phrase.  Any wallet compatible with Bip39 seeds can restore the wallet.  If you're using Electrum there's an "Options" button where you enter your seed, that will give the ability to select Bip39, and an extension.  If you've turned on the Bip39 passphrase option on your Trezor, you'll need to enter the passphrase in the extension field.

All three of those user names contain a "Y!"  They must be alts!
We have "r", "o", "e" common :-D

Oh, um, yeah, about that; 14 does not equal 21, or 343.  So you must be mistaken.
2375  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Adkinsbet SCAM on: February 24, 2021, 04:28:58 AM
I want you to think about why scams are apparently unmoderated on the forum - the reason that was given - and then try to imagine how that would apply when Newbies aren't given any welcome messages or warnings about all members (especially outside of the convoluted trust system). Might be a bit cynical but it's not hard to notice some glaring things that are missing.

As hard as it may be to picture me thinking, I have once or twice.  The unofficial (official) reason given is a bit sparse, I must admit:

19. Possible (or real) scams and Trust ratings are not moderated (to prevent moderation abuse).
~
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Q: Why haven't you banned <insert scammer username here> who is an obvious scammer?
A: Possible (or real, not for me to decide) scams are not moderated to prevent moderator abuse. If we start picking out which ones we call "scammers" and ban, we would make a lot of decisions based on biased opinions.

But it actually makes perfect sense.  Bias is real, and humans are prone to it.  Mistakes are also possible, regardless of bias or any other ill intent.  Would a welcome message help?  Possibly, it couldn't hurt.  I may not be as optimistic about it's effectiveness as you are, however.

Another possible reason for the admins' neutral position could have something to do with this:

I'm an anarcho-capitalist

Which, in light of where we're having this discourse, also makes sense.

Despite the absence of a welcome message, or lack of moderation, the forum is not to blame for scams.  No one is to blame for scams other than the scammer, but the other thing that's needed for a scam to work is a victim.  That's the unfortunate reality.  Some of us are just stubborn, and need to learn things the hard way.  Scammers are nearly impossible to prevent, and victims only slightly less difficult.

Just a day or so ago someone claimed to be scammed by a tagged and flagged AWS account scammer.  That means they clicked on the scammers thread, ignored the big red banner across the top of the page, ignored the little red negative numbers next to the scammers name, and contacted said scammer anyway.  Even if there was a welcome message explaining how all this stuff works, it'll only work if it's not ignored.
2376  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Adkinsbet SCAM on: February 24, 2021, 02:54:28 AM
scams happen in crypto and as far the forum is concerned, it's nothing to concern oneself with.
Emphasis mine.

I hope you don't really believe that.  The trust system and the flag system are efforts meant to mitigate scam opportunities.  The community does a good job finding some before they can victimize people, and attempts to reduce opportunities for those that do.

Sure, there are many "reviews" in the trust system that have nothing to do with trading, but that's not the only measure of someone's trustworthiness.

When we finally get that welcome message or a redirect landing page, that will mitigate some scam potential - DefaultTrust users are only useful after victims present accusations (or, they'll have to spend a lot of time looking deeply into new sites as they come).

A welcome message would be helpful, if enough newbies actually take the time to read it.
2377  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 24, 2021, 02:29:27 AM
DireWolfM14 just a question, the new league year is about to begin on March 17 so what will you do with this thread? nutildah closed the first thread after the SB, will you do the same and open a new one or will you allow this thread to keep going?

I intended this thread as a spammegathread an ongoing discussion of the game football, not necessarily tied to the NFL or it's seasons.  If someone wants to start a new thread specific to the new NFL season that would be great, but I don't see a need to close this thread.
2378  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Adkinsbet SCAM on: February 24, 2021, 01:03:07 AM
You will not be able to get any updates from them, they are proven scammers and trolls. Sadly the next best thing you can do it try to disrupt their domain by reporting them to their domain registrar - that just might get their attention and hopefully they will settle all claims against them in the hope of having their domain restored.

I'm not sure that would help.  I don't think AdkinsBet will end with AdkinsBet.  In this post Nutildah shows evidence that AdkinsBet and Malubit are very likely run by the same scammer.

There's also this account that seems to be the same person; Mark_Pitibet, who posted the Ann thread to pitbet.io.  Although it appears that the website never worked, lol.

I suspect this scammer is bouncing from one URL to another.  Obviously he has multiple accounts, why not multiple URLs?

2379  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: February 23, 2021, 09:58:25 PM
6 minutes before the end and we have a Barca - PSG score between Lazio - Bayern. We can say that Lazio is almost eliminated.
For ATM, it is behind with 1 goal and although I support it more than Chelsea, I prefer it to be eliminated by the 2nd leg, like that they can concentrate on La Liga since they are NOT a favourite team in CL this time, at all!

That was quite surprising to see PSG take Barcelona apart in that way, never would have expected that outcome.  Even with 3 point aggregate deficit I don't think you can count Barcelona out.  I can't say the same for Lazio.  Also surprised to see Chelsea take the points in Atletico's home game.  This when things start getting good.
2380  Economy / Reputation / Re: TecShare - Farewell my friend. on: February 23, 2021, 03:32:04 PM
I reached out to the op to ask how he came by the information, without disclosing details.  He responded saying he and Techshare were in touch on a Skype group with just a few members.  They were able to connect with someone on Steam that new him personally.  The story seems very plausible.  MudDev sent me a link to the Steam chat where Techshare had interreacted with the person that new him, but I have not had a chance to go through it.  I'm at work right now, so I'll give it some time this evening.

Based on MudDev's PM and eddie13's experience I now fear that this report is very likely to be true.

My condolences to Tecshare's family, may he rest in peace.

ETA: I've always liked Tecshare, he was one of my favorite people on the forum.  It may not always seem that way when you look at our public discourse, but he was genuinely a good guy with a big heart.  He cared tremendously about this forum.  I've missed seeing him around these last few months, and I'm saddened to learn he won't be returning.

Godspeed, Techshare!
