3141  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Loan Default - theyoungmillionaire u=1180530 on: March 22, 2020, 11:03:51 PM
Might be better to start getting ID from users so you could at least possibly prosecute someone in court if they don't repay you. Either way, some system needs set in place to make users accountable for their actions.

I don't think that's a good idea, identification documents are way too easy to forge and that could lead lenders to assume a false sense of security.  That's one of the reasons I'm not too hopeful about other members claiming to know who theyoungmillionaire is IRL.  They may be right, but they could just as easily have been misled by theyoungmillionaire falsely disclosing information and photographs that were intended to mislead.

In fact, recently I had a member take his time being very friendly, sending messages on a chat app just to "say hi," sending me photos of himself participating in hobbies of his...  Sure enough, he eventually asked me for a loan.  Not a big one, but one I wouldn't qualify him for on the basis of his account status.  Were all those messages just to build up to the loan request?  Are the photos legitimately of him?  I can't say for sure, as I don't know what his plans were and how long he's been brewing them.

I would also be concerned about malicious use of IDs.  For example; Alice could pretend to be Bob while applying for a loan, with the intention of defaulting and framing Bob.

by the way it is "byte" not "bite" Wink

Considering how much wine I consumed last night, it could have been much worse, lol.
3143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [MAR 2020] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: March 22, 2020, 05:39:52 AM
1 sat per bite is possible right now.  I just consolidated a slew of UTXOs, and forced 1 sat per bite as the fee, the transaction got it's first confirmation with the very next block.  It looks like price of BTC is also stabilizing after the mad-corona-infested-bear rush.
3144  Other / Meta / Re: The quality of this forum has gone down significantly on: March 22, 2020, 05:36:10 AM
I expected OP to have been registered in 2010 or something. Instead it's 2017.

The fact that the OP laid this turd of post in meta, then skedaddled makes it look more like someone's troll account that anything else.  Maybe the OP has been around since 2010?  If so, why not post from your real account if you're concerned about the quality of posts on the forum?

If increasing the quality of the forum is the objective, explain what's so bad about it, make some practical suggestions, contribute in a way that will inspire people to follow your lead.

Well after playing with this off and on for a few weeks now, I still can't get it to work.  Anyone else having trouble sending payments?  I have two testnet wallets set up, both have open channels, both are sync'd.  But I always get the same error.  Is there a setting I'm missing?

3146  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: walmart34 Scammed Me on: March 22, 2020, 12:53:12 AM
It's looking a lot like walmart34 is on a scamming spree.  He made just enough trades that some started to trust him, then took advantage of that.  I had some communications with him on Telegram, but now I find he's purged the discussion.

Back in January I got a PM about walmart34, but unfortunately the sender didn't really provide me with enough evidence to tag him then.  The telegram account was not what I had for walmart34, and therefor didn't know if it was really him or an impersonator.  There's certainly the possibility he was "impersonating" himself as the admin of this telegram channel.

Hello bro.

I've seen your trust reference for Walmart34 (Naober), but he recently scammed me for $1800.
I wanted to buy vcc from him as usuals and he said don't sell vcc anymore. But I can sell my bank account to create vcc yourself.
Then we've dealed the account with $1800 and then sent the money to him, but after money sending, he just removed me from his telegram group and removed all conversation. Now he don't responds to me.

This is btc transaction I've sent:
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/0af88bf8734538917fff2dec4a042f1c1c297f492060672ec1ca358e41b5d85c

And this is my screenshot before money sending to him:

And this is my talk to him after scam:

This is his telegram group and said about my full story there:
https://t.me/naoberVCC/4926

Please help me how can I return back the money?
Can you talk with your friend walmart about this money?

Thanks

I really felt sorry for the guy, but there was nothing I could do.
3147  Economy / Reputation / Re: How to report death threat made via the personal text? on: March 21, 2020, 06:13:11 PM
I have already reported it by just doing report to moderator function on one of their posts and tried to explain. However, the threat is not contained in a post.

You can report the PM to a moderator, the link to do so is in the same location as just like any other post.  Report the PM, if the responsible moderator agrees it's a legitimate threat, the account will be banned.

apparently he's romanian.

Aren't all vampires?

Don't get too excited about a newbie offering "help". It could be a random nobody trying to run a scam on top of a scam, it would be scammer themselves trying to cover their tracks. Be extremely careful with any information provided by them and don't attempt vigilante justice... 0.3 BTC is not worth it.

Meh.  I'm too old for that Rambo shit, and it ain't the first time I've lost money.  As much as I'd like it to be the last, I'm not too confident about that either.

If I don't here back from TYM by Monday I'll be filing a police report.  Theymos offered to cooperate with the fuzz, but I won't be holding my breath about the money.  If nothing else I'll have another tax-write-off for my 2020 filing.
3153  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 19, 2020, 05:28:54 PM
You ready for it, boyos?  Here's the historic moment that we all dreamed would happen.  When the shit hits the fan, then bitcoin recovers at an amazingly bullish rate months before the stock market.  Mass adoption, here we come.

I'm sorry for those who suffered through this tragedy.  I wish things didn't have to go this way, but I didn't write the rules.
3154  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀 Sportsbet.io - Main Club Partner of Watford FC ⚽ Fun. 🏀 Fast. 🎾 Fair. 🏆 on: March 19, 2020, 04:04:49 PM
It’s the 21st century, wiping your ass on dried paper is disgusting. People should use wet wipes or water in modern times.

I can't believe we're having this discussion in the sportsbet.io thread.  Is there any way we can relate this to gambling?  Like, for example; what are the odds people will be wiping their asses with corn cobs in the near future?  Shocked Shocked Shocked

In all seriousness, as advanced as the United States is, I'm always amazed by how few bidets there are in this country compared to the Middle East and Asia (and, I imagine, Europe.)

Any way I saw the PL have delayed matches until April 30th. It they said they will finish the season.

That's better.  I hope the extra time to practice will give Arsenal the edge they need to climb the table.
3155  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coronavirus Outbreak on: March 19, 2020, 03:45:38 PM
Anyone else notice how many of the news stories about Covid-19 and the Trump administration's response are completely polarized and contradictory?  It seems like like many, including some of his harshest critics are actually commending Trump's response.  One critic who was reacently clamoring for his impleachment actually said that "he is being the kind of leader that people need" in this situation.  Even Ilhan Omar complemented the president on this actions.

But many stories are trying to paint a different picture.  So many are claiming he's inept, ignorant, unresponsive, blah, blah, blah.  I know from first hand knowledge how misleading those stories are.  I work for a company that's at the forefront of this battle, the president has mentioned us by name a few times during his press conferences in the past week.  We, among many of our competitors have been working tirelessly to help fight this virus, and our internal communications have made it very clear that the administration is leading this effort and sparing no resource in helping us in this fight.

I read two stories yesterday (that I can't seem to find anymore) that had the same premise, but different conclusions.  Both stories claimed that in 2017 the Trump administration was instructed by exiting Obama officials on how to deal with a pandemic.  One story was crediting Obama for Trump's success, while the other story claimed that Trump's failure is due to his administration rejecting Obama's instructions.  Both stories were very kind to Obama, while being harsh on Trump.  Both claimed that Obama's response to the 2011-2012 SARS pandemic was beyond reproach, which I know to be utter bull shit.  Obama didn't do shit until 1000 Americans had died from SARS.

It makes me wonder, who stands to benefit from this contradictory, and obviously misleading information?  Who stands to gain if the Trump administration is made to look like a bunch of inept, babbling buffoons?  The obvious answer is the Democrats, but I don't think that's where it stops.

Who else?  Possibly the people who are responsible for the virus in the first place?

3156  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Loan Default - theyoungmillionaire u=1180530 on: March 19, 2020, 02:43:31 PM
He mentioned that he was starting a physical bitcoin business in the Philippines, and that he was working on getting a fiat loan.  He was supposed to pay me back with the money he got for his business loan.
In retrospect, paying back a loan by taking another loan should have been a big red flag.

Agreed, but I don't believe that was his plan originally.  He didn't mention that intent until January, after I had already given him the loan and an extension.

Thanks to all the folks who are active in the Philippine local for taking this so seriously.  I want you all to know that I will never equate one person's actions to a whole race or ethnicity, and I hope this doesn't spur any bias against Filipinos on the forum.
3157  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Loan Default - theyoungmillionaire u=1180530 on: March 18, 2020, 09:54:41 PM
Surprised about this, I’ve seen him around the forum & he seemed OK. The amount doesn’t seem enough to pull a scam, 0.3BTC is nothing! What a piece of shit Sad
Indeed that 0.3 amount is very small amount. The user could join a good signature campaign [Looking at his post quality and previous activity] and could make more than this scammed amount in a legitimate way. But for this nothing amount he made the choice to scam was bit shocking for me.

That's what I was thinking.  Not long ago DarkStar_ mentioned he was looking for a quality poster who's active in the Philippine local, and TYM could have been one of the top candidates if he applied.  He could have earned what he owed me in about 10 weeks.

The user seemed very promising and was doing great job for the community especially in their local community. There must be something wrong with him, possibly any physical condition or something? It's hard to believe that they are not responding and ran away with the money but till this point it's seems that's the truth.

I will tag the user and will follow this topic and I really hope that they come back and make the full repayment.

I hope all is well with him, he really seemed like a good guy.  He mentioned that he was starting a physical bitcoin business in the Philippines, and that he was working on getting a fiat loan.  He was supposed to pay me back with the money he got for his business loan.  I hope he's healthy and turned scammer as opposed to the opposite, lol.  I do wish him the best, I just wish he wouldn't take advantage of my generosity to get there.

3160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would a (bicycle) merchant go about accepting bitcoin? on: March 18, 2020, 07:27:01 PM
This thread reminds me of situation that still haunts me to this day;  I founded a sporting goods store back in 2009, owned and operated it until 2016.  I mostly hid in the back, working on people's guns (I offered gun-smithing services,) while my employees took care of the the retail part of the business.  Back in 2012 or 2013 a guy came into the shop and asked one of my employees if we accept bitcoin.  He was shopping for a somewhat rare rifle, and I just happened to have one on the shelf.  At the time bitcoin was about $130, and it had just dropped from a bit over $200.  He offered me 10 BTC for the rifle, which was priced at $1000.

I toyed with the idea while he showed me how to make a wallet (using bitaddress IIRC,) but being the kind of guy who never jumps into something without researching the shit out of it, I declined.

10 BTC at ~$100 would have been nice, but what really bugs me about the episode is that I had the opportunity to learn about and start collecting bitcoin 5 to 6 years before I finally got involved.  Hindsight being 20/20 and all.

Anyway, sorry to go off topic.  Carry on.
