This forum isn't in 'merica. We really don't have much to fear. If the Euro feds get butthurt, theymos can just move the server somewhere else.
322  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why are people scared of taxes? on: October 06, 2012, 03:15:15 PM
My local gov can't properly allocate water, provide adequate garbage disposal nor supply electricity at the most competitive rate.

Like hell am I going to be content with paying taxes when a market of competing services can do better.

Thanks for trying, Theymos.
324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How do we get BTC/USD on Forex? on: October 06, 2012, 12:20:12 PM
What do we need to do to make this happen? What's the procedure and how much money does it take?

Might I add Forex is the most liquid market in the world.

EDIT: It seems currencies are approved by individual clearinghouses. Forex is decentralized.
325  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miners operate the majority of Bitcoin nodes. on: October 06, 2012, 11:51:04 AM
ya, the bitcoin client needs a DEFCON type warning system to alert all nodes that the network is under possible attack. Then mining software and users can take action or at least be prepared.

There is an alert system for Bitcoin-Qt.
326  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Prediction] BTC will be at 19+USD before the reward halving on: October 06, 2012, 10:39:41 AM
A market shock may happen due to a lot pressure from the buyers in the market wanting to purchase cheaply. When the suppliers need to recoup their recent mining investments, they will be forced to sell at a higher rate. The amount needed to recoup may be unanticipated.
327  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Which is the best pool to join with your ASIC? on: October 06, 2012, 09:24:54 AM
Any pool that has upgraded to Stratum or GBT based pool servers.

Stratum - BTC Guild & Slash
GBT - EclipseMC and Eligius
What is Stratum and GBT?
328  Economy / Economics / Re: A Resource Based Economy on: October 06, 2012, 08:41:15 AM
Who defines "use value"?

It's subjective in a different sense. For instance breathable air has almost infinite use value whereas an old family photo has almost zero. But from a communistic perspective, a generalization could be made by a naturalistic argument to keep this subjectivity out of the picture. Luckily, since it's already free, this shouldn't necessarily result in oppression.

Though I can see a problem with regards to the non-scarcity rhetoric because of the vagueness in definition of value. If no exchange takes place, how do you know value? This may result in the calamity of defining respective use values.

So this whole things relies on things not being scarce?

The most pertinent question is how do we get from scarcity to total non-scarcity in a short period of time?
329  Economy / Economics / Re: A Resource Based Economy on: October 06, 2012, 08:27:28 AM
Would you agree that price, cost and value are entirely separate things?
Does the fact that you could get a thousand different answers for this question give you a clue?

Value is subjective and the price and cost comes from that; which tend to vary enormously depending on location, time and other variables.

Use value, which you missed, is totally free of all this.

Who defines "use value"?
330  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Legal Research on: October 06, 2012, 08:10:06 AM
Every time I stop being involved in internet communities for a while, I forget how completely ridiculously insulting people are online.
...people that are worth it usually see that there points are invalid anyway ...

The faith-based narcissism; it's hilarious.

Get one person to AML for lots of different accounts for a cut.

Because breaking even more laws in relation to an organisation which is already under scrutiny is a great idea.

Right now, everyone has to work on the assumption that everything sketchy to do with GBLSE is going to come out in the wash, including any illegal proposals put forward on this forum.

We havent broken ANY laws. Show me one fucking law that mentions bitcoin specifically.

"A security is "any note, stock, treasury stock, security future, bond, debenture, certificate of interest or participation in any profit-sharing agreement or in any oil, gas, or other mineral royalty or lease, any collateral-trust certificate, preorganization certificate or subscription, transferable share, investment contract, voting-trust certificate, certificate of deposit for a security, any put, call, straddle, option, or privilege on any security, certificate of deposit, or group or index of securities (including any interest therein or based on the value thereof), or any put, call, straddle, option, or privilege entered into on a national securities exchange relating to foreign currency, or in general, any instrument commonly known as a 'security'; or any certificate of interest or participation in, temporary or interim certificate for, receipt for, or warrant or right to subscribe to or purchase, any of the foregoing; but shall not include currency or any note, draft, bill of exchange, or bankers' acceptance which has a maturity at the time of issuance of not exceeding nine months, exclusive of days of grace, or any renewal thereof the maturity of which is likewise limited." - Section 3a item 10 of the 1934 Act."
this could include just about anything that is a reciept of value such eg amazon, iTunes gift cards.

...and that's the thing. Laws are applied when they are relevant to the powers that be. The key is to know the states intent in this regulation. Even then, they will use laws and spread their jurisdiction widely when convenient for their desires.

We usually have a Constitution to limit this type of thing.

The US founding father's would establish this type of financial activity as a first amendment, unbridgeable right.

When the state executes its laws, it can interpret existing ones to cover new cases and situations. All it takes is a new court ruling to set precedent for a law to expand to new territory.

I don't agree with this but that's how our current powers work.
334  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 06, 2012, 07:32:31 AM

It will only be illegal if its not shut down. It currently isnt illegal.

If nefario has been told to shut it down and complies there is no issue.

Rubbish.  He can still be charged over the period he was operating the exchange illegally, although the penalties would most likely be administrative.  Whether the FSA/SEC or whomever would actually pursue charges is a different issue but we're not talking about a restraining order/injunction here where the obligation to refrain from a behaviour doesn't start until a legal request to desist is issued and non-compliance with that request creates the illegality.

No bitcoin.me is correct.

I rob banks all the time and when they say stop I stop. Then they can't put me in jail.

You need to be a prosecutor. lol

Will you accept PayPal or alternative payment methods in the future?

At this time, it's unlikely we'll offer PayPal, Google Checkout, Bitcoin, or other payment methods. If you'd like to purchase a Pass and it's not possible for you to use a debit or credit card, try purchasing a gift card or check if your bank/payment method of choice allows you to generate a "virtual" credit card number.

It's not a failure. It's progress. Eventually it will collapse and we will move forward with more knowledge. There's no catch-all solution; only evolution.

Nefario was a family man. He has a wife. Possibly kids.

Him chickening out in the face of the government is expected. We should of known.
Tell us then, what would you do in the face of potential serious convictions over a bitcoin enterprise?
Stand up for my shareholders and clients until I am forcibly imprisoned. I can wait in prison. I never fear it.
