3201  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Trying to start a new CSGO Skins marketplace that deals in crypto on: August 25, 2021, 10:02:54 PM
The basic idea is trading NFTs that would confer an exclusive right of use of the skin. There are quite a few tutorials on how to generate an NFT as a token on the Ethereum network, but it could probably be done equally on any chain out there that supports the right ERC standard. One project that is already on the market is called WAX and it uses a proprietary chain that effectively holds skins and in-game objects. The project is clearly feasible - if not easy - from the technical perspective. A different thing is gaining momentum.
3202  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin fans have developed into a political force. Is this the dawn of victory? on: August 24, 2021, 02:35:50 PM
We certainly make noise when we want to. Sometimes however is the wrong kind of noise, as it is much more difficult to convince others if you declare yourself as a maximalist or a fan and simply deny that crypto or bitcoin may actually not be perfect or could be somehow made better.  My view is that we should always be discussing weaknesses, opportunities and improvements rather than chanting and praising. An open political debate is much better than pure propaganda and political influence.

3205  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (III) rats eating dead people and people eating rats in NK on: August 23, 2021, 10:16:28 PM
...
This is a single interview from a person who lived there and someone could argue that it is biased, but searching the net we can see other similar testimonials, for example:

Train platforms full of dead bodies, cleaning filthy toilets with bare hands and eating rats to survive: North Korean defector reveals harsh reality of life inside brutal labour camps

...

Unfortunately, any information you may possibly get from NK is certain to be biased and difficult to validate or disprove. NK is opaque like few countries out there, but in terms of their economy it is obvious that it is impossible that people in the country are doing well in general, let alone people who have been marked by the regime as enemies.

Regarding the communism in general, people in countries with more or less free markets and more or less "capitalist" would be greatly surprised to know that those communist regimes do have supporters. When the USSR imploded, most people lived without any luxury and they certainly did not have many of the freedoms that democracies had, but they mostly had a roof over their head, a job and food - zero luxury of course other than culture perhaps.

"Capitalist" countries are great at marketing - as it could not be otherwise - and do well presenting examples of people who are successful under the regime, but there is certainly plenty of dirt under the carpet and millions left behind. You will rarely see interviews and documentaries about children living in cars and dying for lack of medical care, people living in hoods in which their only realistic survival option is to join a gang, even modern slaves working in inhuman conditions, etc. Yet that does exist in capitalist countries.

Unfortunately, the middle way and the moderate opinions are not in fashion and everything has to be either black or white. If you support moderation and complex answers you are usually hated by everyone and each group will accuse you of having a political agenda behind your views. Yet here is my view, a purely Capitalist regime is sustainable but leaves many behind. A purely communist regime ignores some of the basic inclinations of people and cannot work. Some countries are not even ready to discuss anything but a tribal government due to the lack of education.

Unfortunately, people abide mostly by simple answers, simple slogans, tweets and, in general, that which makes them feel better about themselves.

3206  Economy / Economics / Re: Philanthropy as a paradox for the uber-rich on: August 23, 2021, 10:03:25 AM
I have never heard a farmer or agriculturist saying "I had great crops this year". Most of the time I hear complaints similar to the ones you are making, although I can admit that yours are much more elaborate and I would not be able to assert how accurate they may be and what are the reasons for those regulations.

I've heard it a hundred of times, but there is a problem.
When you have record production, so do others. Then demand and offer kicks in, with huge crops and costly storage everyone wants to get a better price before the others hit the market, so the prices go down. And then there is simple math, you harvest 3 tons that sell at 1$/kilo, 2 tons that sell at 1.5/kilo or it was a drought and you harvest 1 tonn but you sell it at 3$ per kilo.

You said you've never seen happy farmers, but you know how many have gone out of business? From the Netherlands to Hungary I can show you the remains of hundreds of farms that are abandoned, after being seized for unpaid debts they just sat there, rotting away, not worth being sold even for free. If agriculture would be that profitable and risk-free, don't you think everyone would be doing it?

Of course, you keys, your money, your decisions... no problem for that, it is just that it is also my country, my vote, my decision, my laws... so you are free to create your own place if you dislike the arrangements or try to change these in your favour.

So being your own back, keeping your bitcoins safe from being seized as it happened with fiat in Cyprus is just a myth, right?
Tomorrow you and your friends, outnumbering us 47881 to 47880 can decide that our keys but your money!

Electricity prices in Spain are high precisely because draconian legislation on renewables. It is the perfect country for solar and wind, particularly for microgeneration, yet you have the most unbelievable laws and barriers around it.

How was that....my decisions, my laws...my karma?  Grin
Besides, how do you fit those draconian laws with this?

Quote
Solar PV power systems contributed to 11.4% of Spain’s power mix last month, setting a new record for monthly production, according to new data from grid operator Red Eléctrica de España. The company said that just over half (50.7%) of the country’s power generation in May came from renewable energy resources. This, it said, was driven by wind power, which was responsible for close to a quarter (23.4%) of electricity production for the month..

Btw, serious advice, save some money for the winter bills, trust me! I've seen there times what a dunkelflaute can do, prepare a few extra satoshis to pay for your green energy.  Grin

Obviously, Draconian laws happen when there is a majority  that choose to have them, with support from lobbies and all that. I am surprised that I have to explain that again.

Why do you assume that I am Spanish and that I live in Spain? Please, note that renewables include hydroelectric, which in a mountainous country like Spain has been in full use more than 60 year ago. Still, solar and wind are low... I am writing this as I pass by a wind generator´s field...you would say that´s karma I guess.

I am zero worried about paying any of my bills. I am very worried about leaving behind a world full of shit. Money won´t buy you another planet.

Furthermore, I have zero interest in discussing anything on personal terms because that is simply an emotional response to a perceived threat - I do not feel threatened by your views nor your opinion, I simply think these come from your experiences, the people you talk to and the information you access and do not seem to match or resist a check with the real world.
3207  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you think financial stability is mandatory to be a gainer in Bitcoin invest? on: August 23, 2021, 09:54:25 AM
I recently published a post on the same line: is it easy to hodl if you are already "rich". My personal answer is that once you have your basic needs, including financial stability covered, it is much easier to do anything else, including achieving great results with crypto and bitcoin in particular. Crypto is a risky venture in general, with wide swings in price, unclear regulations and a wild west aroma. All that is what attracts two types of people: those who have little to loose and those that have little to fear.
3208  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: August 23, 2021, 08:13:52 AM
Oh boy, that's incredibly sad, unexpected and shocking!

the game ended in a draw, it really is a very shocking result and with that I can already predict that for this season nothing has changed, in the end the Atletico Madrid will be champion. sad, as a fan of real madrid i lost my hopes again

Atletico Madrid have a strong and cooperative squad. Although Elche's goalkeeper really did a great job today. Atletico Madrid have won their two matches so far and got 6 points. I think they may win the La Liga trophy again this season.

It's hard to admit it but the Atletico Madrid is much better prepared to win the la liga again

I guess that Real Madrid weren't expecting such result in their game against Levante. It ended 3-3. Levante were really focused on a win even more than Real Madrid. But Real Madrid didn't let it happen at least. But they must be aware of that it was a game which they would have won normally.

When it comes to Atletico Madrid, they did the expected and won against Elche 1-0. The result is not very impressive though. Because a team like Atletico should be able to score at least 3 or 4 goals against a team like Elche. I guess they haven't adapted fully to the new season. But it's not a problem as long as they continue to win. They can start playing better in time.

It is far too early to make any prediction. You would need to go way back in time to find two La Liga won by Atletico de Madrid in a row, since it is such a competitive League and prone to surprises after winter and all that. I think that the keys for this season are: How strong is going to be Real Madrid on average, how will Barca be able to replan their game after Messi leaving and will Atletico be able to keep up the pace for two seasons in a row? Many combinations there to start thinking about the final results.
3209  Economy / Gambling discussion / When do you know is time to walk? on: August 23, 2021, 08:07:10 AM
There is an old song called "Thee Gambler" that goes like this (snipped part), by Kenny Rogers if I am not wrong.
,
Quote
He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces
Knowin' what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind my sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I'll give you some advice"

...

Quote
"If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right
You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

Knowing when to hold'em, knowing when to foldèm are usually part of your ability, training and experience when playing poker or other games that have some math to it, my question for the forum is how do you know it is the time "to walk away" and I also hope that you never get to the point that you need to know "when to run".
3210  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Accumulating small odds or choosing one or two big odds on: August 23, 2021, 08:00:20 AM
You are right sports betting can easily be done and won by a newbie as it is not as hard as another betting in gambling that requires skills to win, one can easily discover a stronger team in sports game even if the team is given a small odds you can still stake big amount with a high probability of winning the bet.
Betting is not easy like you think, there are truly big more chances that big teams will win, but no full probability that the big team will win the small team, I have bet on big teams serveral times to win but draw, big teams even will surprise you more of they lose. Staking high amount of money will still result to few games won but one big loss can take away all your gain, and another just one more game loss can result to the liquidation of your betting budget. We must be very careful not to use more than our betting budget, we must also be very careful of thinking big teams will win by using huge amount of money because there are times big teams lose also especially in club leagues like EPL.
Everything in gambling world is always be talking about chances, there's no such thing about guaranteed win unless if its fixed or being manipulated. When it comes to ways of betting or on how you do make bets
then it is really on someones behavior and we do really differ on that everytime since not all gamblers would really entirely the same on making out decisions. On the question on what would be my choice
neither accumulate small odds or choosing two big odds? I do always stick with big odds but sometime i do consider out on making bets on smaller ones if i do know that
it do really have some sort of sure win.

Gamblers are rarely rational, yet this issue is kind of a mathematical one. Placing your bets on a small number of big bets is more likely to yield extreme results, while placing your bet on a large number of small odds is more likely to give more average results. This also exists when buying stocks and financial assets, the first option is called a "concentrated portfolio" and the second is called "diversifying". Typically, a concentrated portfolio is equivalent to an "all in".
3211  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Addiction Podcast on: August 23, 2021, 07:51:01 AM
I think that there may be a catch on all this gambling addiction podcast thing, you could potentially become addicted to listening to the podcast and start believing that the interviewees are actually their friends Wink Jokes aside, I think this is a great idea, I would like to be a patron for this type of podcast because dealing with addiction is something that may work in different ways for different people: groups, methods and , why not, podcasts.
3212  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you feel wiser after you play online crypto gambling? on: August 23, 2021, 07:47:47 AM
I personally do not feel wiser if I have played a game that is pure chance, perhaps I feel lucky an little else - yet a good moment of "oh yesss" does happen. In poker and soccer is a bit different, I would not call it wiser but rather more experienced when winning. It is said that you can learn from your past mistakes, and that has some truth, but it has been proven that you actually learn more of your successes, so winning does get you some "wisdom points".
3213  Economy / Economics / Re: The Role Of Bitcoin Growth To Economic Development And Inflation. on: August 22, 2021, 05:41:03 PM
...
Of course these observations apply only to natural market mechanics and do not include political narratives or agendas, which can also exert an influence on price.

I don't remember there being many experiments or pilot programs involving deflationary assets. The closest thing we have to compare them to could be limited edition collectibles, which have followed a natural trend of price appreciation over time. Limited edition collectibles and artwork like the Mona Lisa or Mickey Mantle baseball cards generally do appreciate in value over time as deflationary assets. Perhaps we can expect deflationary assets in crypto to maintain the same trend.

This is quite the best contribution to economy, the ability to thrive piggy-backing on the irresponsibility of governments, both elected and non-elected. If you think about it, it is short of the surest bet you can make on the behaviour of markets, which on the end are people: they are greedy, they are irresponsible, they are corrupt and they try to kick the problems and take them on only when too late.

I guess that what I mean is that the innovation in coding and programming is modest in comparison with the innovation and achievement in translating psychology into technology.

Creo que se presta mucho a las estafas y como al fin y al cabo estás cometiendo un delito tampoco puedes "reclamar"?
3215  Economy / Economics / Re: When debt is an asset on: August 19, 2021, 11:54:18 PM
Call me a traditionalist ... but if you want a roof over your head... and you cannot afford it... then you have a choice, namely :

Rent a house : Give money to a landlord (someone else) and never own property.
Borrow the Money : Take out the mortgage and pay the interest and own your own property. (Asset)

I own my house... I paid it off way earlier than what I should have, because I paid much more than what was required from the mortgage payments.  (Best decision I have ever made)  Wink
It depends on the location as well, nowadays most people ended up with long term loan while the actual value of the property is very less. Even I support the buy house over the rent but the user should consider the location, interest rate and their potential of bringing income until the mortgage ends and much more.

That is quite a common thinking: I made my mortgage payments quicker so I got the house paid earlier. Good, that will certainly give you a degree of assurance on your living, however, if you consider what other things you could have done with your money during the last decades, you may change your view.

You saw your debt as a problem and a burden, even if it was collateralised, instead you could have bought stocks of google, microsoft and others and you would have multiplied you money. You could have used that debt as an asset.
3216  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you bet on climbing challenges on: August 19, 2021, 11:49:03 PM
it came to me as a surprise that climbing has been officially introduced into the Olympics in Tokyo, I should have been more aware of the ongoing of the sport. However, I kind of do not like the technical or sports indoor climbing specialties, I am (perhaps was) more of a "trad" climber (traditional climbing) which takes place in the open, usually along relatively long routes in which you use your own tools for self-protection. However I do enjoy the precision and dedication of sport climbing and also the people who create the routes - much more difficult than it looks.
3217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are NFT games also another way to gamble your money? on: August 19, 2021, 11:41:21 PM
The classic question about what is betting and what is investing. To be honest, I would like to say that there is a clear limit between the two but it is quite a blurred divide rather that something that is subject to definitions. I mostly consider that investing in, e.g. ETFs, is related to buying assets that are related to a productive activity that yields certain results.

For example, buying gold is betting or speculating, while buying stocks of Google is more like investing. This is admittedly very questionable.
3218  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: August 19, 2021, 11:36:19 PM
-snip-
I know I'm Barca but I have to slightly disagree. Dembele is a true talent, but we all know his problems with fitness so maybe after this season if they can't find a way to permanently help him we have to rethink the squad.

Braithwaite played with the weight of stars on him so maybe now he is free. And my personal favourite if he gets more chances is Fati!
Let's get a neutral view about Barcelona gameplay in the previous season in La Liga:
Messi played 3023 minutes, scored 30 goals, made 9 assists
Griezmann played 2604, scored 13 goals, made 7 assists
Dembele played 1774 minutes, scored 6 goals, made 3 assists
Braithwaite played 1175 minutes, scored 2 goals, made 2 assists
Ansu Fati played 431 minutes, scored 4 goals with 0 assists
Even the previous 2019/2020 wasn't better for most of them.. Apart Suarez, other players stats were way behind Messi's ones.
What's the point of having a "good" player while he barely plays a match to get injured and misses a dozen after it... The team hired you to make something for it, the incredible number of injuries and the time to recover is a pure losses for Barca.

I agree with you. It is unreasonable to consider how talented a player is when he cannot stay on the field long enough due to injury. All athletes must first maintain their fitness. Getting injured more quickly is detrimental to the player himeself and even to the team. Messi and Ronaldo have very few injuries.

It is an eternal dilemma for the clubs that spend large sums to get the best players, like Madrid, Barca, Manchester, Liverpool, Milan,... At the end of the day players are quite fragile, and in fact I am surprised about how long some of them are able to play at the maximum professional level, because it is not only about being motivated after you have earned enough for 10 lifes, it is also about keeping that fitness and hardiness to endure a game that has plenty of hard contact.
3219  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting on the Paralympic Games? Ethical or not? on: August 19, 2021, 11:30:49 PM
-snip-
That is what we are thinking about.
gamblers will also see from a different point of view, not from the disability that they have. But how they can play, compete, and win the competition. And the winning or loss itself will determine whether the gamblers win that betting or not.
As long as they can make money from it, it will never be a matter, or a big matter to think about.
Gamblers will not discriminate those athletes because they are the best and they can perform good things despite of their disability so again, I don’t see any unethical if you bet with them and this is sports so consider it as a sports without any discrimination. I salute those athletes for fighting all out and be a pride of their respective countries.

Perhaps there is a point in saying that actually not betting on Paralympics or games for people with different abilities is in itself kind of discriminatory. They are athletes and if you have seem some of them, it is amazing how strong, fast and committed they are - nothing to envy to the fully abled athletes at all. For the player, it offers and additional skill to acquire since it may be less common and more difficult to speculate about these athletes and their possible results in the games.
3220  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What does it take for a game to "hook" people on: August 19, 2021, 11:27:44 PM
It all comes down to the user interface for me,if am going to place some bets on a sportsbook and its difficult to navigate around or find the markets I desire then I wouldn't force myself to play on such a platform.

Sometimes it's about the competitions such as wagering contests or jackpots, these are highly likely to keep players hooked till they find themselves in contention for a prize and btw these are extremely competitive if the house has a big community.

Mostly it used to be like that for me till I realized that many good ponies I donated to had visuals and which gave a good visual sensation for me to trust them, how wrong I was when I think of it.
But there are good Sportsbet companies that care about visuals in comparison to the system.
Mostly new people who are into gambling are always attracted by the visuals and think if the site is so beautifully created then why would it scam me.

To be honest, the graphic interfaces and in general the user control experience over the games are rarely as good as in other aspects of software. Productivity tools have become more simplified while retaining their original depth for users that require so, gaming has gone beyond anything imaginable just a few years ago in graphics, design and scripts, going into metaverse. However betting has not advanced much. It seems that the industry is reluctant to create something that is radically different.
