3221  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL offers 1000 BTC back up on power claims on: August 26, 2013, 07:55:36 PM
I am offering up a guarantee of 1000 BTC to charity (I will take suggestions on which charity to donate this to) if BFL does not meet it's power claims within 10% - meaning if BFL's power consumption is more than 66w for a Single SC, we lose the "bet."

Still waiting on that 1000 BTC to charity donation.
3222  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL refund through Paypal claim on: August 26, 2013, 07:51:21 PM
All sales are final and they use paypal ?

how does that work ? paypal has 45day pre-order terms

Guarantees shipment within 20 days from the date of purchase.

20 days. BFL quoting 60+ days for delivery has always been in direct violation of PayPal policies.
3223  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Time to sue ButterflyLabs - Big Single-SC owner let's league for class action on: August 26, 2013, 06:40:46 PM
When excess hashrate is on the network, the difficulty rises until it reaches an equilibrium with the hashrate so that 6 blocks are created per hour.  If BFL had shipped everything in November, the difficulty would be far in excess to where it is now (and even more than to where it was a month ago), thus your profitability would have declined.

November network hashrate was about 25 TH/s. It is now over 525 TH/s. Thus, you are claiming you had "far in excess" of 500 TH/s worth of pre-orders in November. Prove it. How much hashrate worth of pre-orders did you have in November?

Forget the tablet certification. That is a distraction Josh loves to grab on to.

When is the Jalapeno getting FCC approval?

Maybe two weeks? We are waiting for the test lab to issue the test report.

Is the two weeks up? Where is the Japapeno test report Josh?
3225  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: August 25, 2013, 05:54:24 AM
Simple multiplication.  It is what 27 PH/s would cost at the various price points offered by various vendors.

Why 27 PH/s? Isn't that in the neighborhood of 4B difficulty?
3226  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: August 23, 2013, 07:04:07 PM
At $8 per GH that would be $216,000,000 in hardware. (Monarch & Cointerra)
At $15 per GH that would be $405,000,000 in hardware.  (Hashfast)
At $20 per GH that would be $540,000,000 in hardware.  (Bitfury October)
At $50 per GH that would be $1,350,000,000 in hardware (BFL, AsicMiner, Avalon, Bitfury August).

Possible but unlikely.

That does seem high. How do you get those numbers?
3227  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: August 23, 2013, 06:01:25 PM
But I doubt it's a reasonable estimate as it would represent about 50x the current hashing power, or add another 27000+ TH.

That's a lot of hardware, even at 400GH/s per unit (≃67K units).

Sure, it's a worst case estimate. But don't forget, difficulty is going to hit 65M today, so only 40x gets us to 2.6B. 100% increase each month gets us to 1B difficulty by end of year. That's not that unreasonable. There's a lot of hardware that's coming online Q4.

If 1 trillion diff corresponds to $42k price for BTC, what BTC price of $110 corresponds to which diff?

That should give us the end-point of difficulty leveling off and should also tell us roughly when to expect that to finish levelling.

≃2.6 billion diff = ways to go.

That'll take about 14 difficulty adjustments at 30% each. I think we'll reach that by end of this year.
3229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Please give us back the option to disable Sync on Power on: August 23, 2013, 05:08:53 PM
Any data at all is painful when roaming, that's why Android disables data access by default.

Ok, for this use case, restricting background data would do it. It doesn't eliminate wifi usage, but that isn't as important. I just have to remember to disable background data for bitcoin when I go roaming.

At the moment I'm showing about 4.5mb of data used so far in August, so that doesn't sound totally off the mark. It could probably be optimised further, it's just never been a focus. What kind of data plan do you have? I guess most people have between 500-1000mb per month these days, on contract, so about 5mb would be 0.5%-1% of total transfer usage. Again, it could be improved, but there are bigger problems with the app right now.

A basic AT&T data plan is 300 MB.

Or this?
< ozbot> 50810339.04828 | Next Diff in 200 blocks | Estimated Change: 28.9747% in 0d 23h 33m 12s

Ack! Sad

That's gonna leave a mark.

Look on the bright side, it's not as bad as the last one. The previous adjustment was +36%.
3231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: August 23, 2013, 04:16:08 PM
Even mining from pools may not be 'clean coins', think about GPUMAX run by our friend Trendon. You can never really tell where all the coins come from.

The only clean coins to be found are those solo mined and that requires ridiculous hash rate for less variance a.k.a. large investment.

Some pools do provide clean coins. I know at least p2pool does, and I'm sure there are some other pools that also mine blocks that pay out directly to the miners. And to keep this on-topic, will KnC's pool give out clean coins?

I'm worried something bad has happened to Josh. Last post from BFL_Josh, October 05, 2012, 11:26:27 PM. I hope he's ok.

3234  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dwolla freezing all financial transfers related to bitcoins?! on: August 23, 2013, 01:54:30 AM
I don't understand. Aren't you just using Dwolla to transfer USD from one place to another? Isn't that the basic point of Dwolla?

3236  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official ASICMINER Hardware Information on: August 23, 2013, 12:24:38 AM
Who cares that ASICMiner sold the first USBs at 2BTC apiece, quickly making $1,000,000 from less hashing speed than a $30,000 1.5TH minirig?

Stop comparing the price of a June miner with an October miner. They are not comparable.
3237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Please give us back the option to disable Sync on Power on: August 23, 2013, 12:08:11 AM
I've never tried because I think it's worth to invest 1 MB of my 200 MB monthly mobile quota in being synched with the chain as much as possible. But since you're so convinced about the usecase - why don't you try?

I wish it was that light on data. At this moment, Android is showing Bitcoin has downloaded 5.65MB out of the 66MB so far this billing cycle. That's a little heavy for a limited data plan. It's really painful when I go roaming internationally.
3238  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A gap in the market for stolen bitcoins on: August 22, 2013, 11:50:05 PM
I think it's worth remembering that criminals are rarely perfect, omniscient adversaries. Many of them are kind of stupid, that's why they get caught.

Yes, the stupid ones get caught. But I'd say they are the minority. In this digital internet age, criminals are increasingly automated and in remote locations. Try sending some bitcoins to known compromised addresses. The coins will be stolen immediately. I realized my email was compromised when I watched a password reset email arrive and was instantly deleted. These things are automated and can be done by criminals from all across the globe. Tracking bitcoin thefts is going to become pointless for most thefts. They'll be stolen and mixed automatically.

And if it turned out to give you 20BTC but the USD/BTC rate sank to $5?  Clearly some people here will call that a good deal, but others would've preferred the cash.

Yes, 20 BTC is better than 13 BTC and better than 10 BTC. AT ANY AND ALL EXCHANGE RATES.
3240  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: YES, you can get a REFUND from BFL on: August 22, 2013, 09:36:10 PM
So, I just emailed BFL and requested a refund for two singles I ordered.   Let's see what the response is to that...

i did that a couple of weeks ago, i got the standard "No" form letter. I really want my equipment more than the money though so i let it ride for now.

It's looking like the next difficulty is going up 25% tomorrow. You sure you want to let it ride?
