3241  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature Anti-Spam Campaign Managers on: June 04, 2018, 08:54:56 AM
There should probably be a distinction between campaign managers and also escrows. Not all campaign managers are escrows nor should all of them be defacto trusted to be one. Maybe the value should be removed all together especially as people might just start using it to base who is most trustworthy or not.

This is a Bitcoin forum, not a fiat forum. If someone is being mislead by prices being given in Bitcoin, or feels mislead by it, should not call himself a bitcoin enthusiast and either educate himself so that he no longer feels mislead, or look for another hobby.

This is very silly reasoning. This is a bitcoin forum but bitcoins have a fiat value attached to them and that is incredibly relevant due to the nature of bitcoin. Fiat isn't a naughty word nobody should ever utter here. If somebody has claimed to have been trusted with 100 bitcoins at once 6 years ago or 100 bitcoins over their lifetime then those are both two very different things and values today. It would be incredibly misleading if the only figure they had to go on was a bitcoin one and to claim someone isn't a 'bitcoin enthusiast' because of that is both ridiculous and completely irrelevant. Bitcoin isn't the only crypto that is transacted in here either. Most campaigns pay in alts or crapcoin tokens so there needs to be some unanimity

Saying that paying 100 Bitcoin at any point in time isn't an accurate representation is like saying that stealing 100 in 2016 is not a smaller crime than stealing the same amount in 2017.

Again, completely irrelevant, but stealing 1 million dollars isn't the same as stealing a dollar, is it? Whoops, used fiat again.

If you hold a certain number of bitcoins, you hold a certain number of bitcoins.

Yeah, and when you held them is incredibly important because there's a fiat value attached to those coins which is very relevant. If the value of them was ten cents total at the time then that should be stipulated, and that's why the worth of them at the time is a much more important and accurate representation of the value you can be trusted with.

"You can trust me with 100 bitcoins" - 2010
"You can trust me with 100 bitcoins" - 2018

You're saying those are the same and no distinction should be made? I guess I should abandon all logic and find a new hobby, eh?
3242  Economy / Services / Re: Cobalt9317 Escrow Service 2% fees on: June 04, 2018, 07:36:56 AM
I don't use paypal and building trust is somewhat obsolete for being redundant before opening up an escrow service

Trust isn't redundant  Roll Eyes. Trust is the one thing you should have massive amounts of before you open such a service. I was hoping you would just abandon this idea but I guess not. If you're not already incredibly trusted then you shouldn't be offering services to hold onto others money.

The fact that you regulary take out microloans is also a little concerning. If you don't have a job or the money to cover these things already then there's no telling what you would do if you received a substantial amount:

3243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what can you buy with bitcoin? on: June 03, 2018, 06:21:51 PM
In the UK, theirs a store called CEX where you can buy second hand dvds, computer games, consoles etc. CEX is in all the main towns and cities and is very popular, been around nearly 20 years now. Any way i noticed on their website that you can pay with bitcoin, on their website.
"Payments - To buy any product from Webuy.com you must make payment using a valid UK credit or debit card, PayPal account, Bitcoin or CeX voucher."

Are you sure about that? They used to accept bitcoin, but there's no mention of it now. They've even removed the bitcoin logo from the bottom of their accepted payments:

No mention of it here either:

https://uk.support.webuy.com/support/solutions/articles/17000052791-what-payment-options-do-cex-offer-for-online-orders-

Quote
What payment options do CeX offer for online orders?

Modified on: Mon, 27 Nov, 2017 at 12:19 PM

The following 4 options are available as payment methods for online orders:

    PayPal
    Cheque
    CeX Voucher
    Bank Transfer (FPS)

For PayPal, please ensure that the email address used on your CeX account matches the one on your PayPal account, any differences may delay the payment. If you choose to receive a Cheque, it will be made out to the name on the CeX account, this cannot be amended.

To help ensure you get your money as quickly as possible, please keep all of your payment details up-to-date and correct. You can check this in the My Account section on webuy.com.
3244  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature Anti-Spam Campaign Managers on: June 03, 2018, 05:35:16 PM
I think listing figures like hundreds of bitcoins could easily mislead or confuse people. Probably should be listed in fiat as well for the reasons I mentioned before.
Mentioning amounts in dollars just doesn't sound right on a Bitcoin forum. May I suggest using an image, where you set the amount in dollars, and it shows Bitcoins. Example: $1000=Amount loading....
The down side is that it gives weird looking amounts, but it's updated on each reload.

But that isn't an accurate representation either especially if you never held that amount in bitcoin. Not everything has to be denominated in bitcoin either, especially when the value fluctuates so much and that's why a fiat value gives a much better and accurate representation and why it should be represented here. If you held £10k in bitcoins then it's the £10k that is the pertinent figure and that's what others should be judging you on.
3245  Other / Meta / Re: KYC at Bitcoin talk account in place of various bounty manager? on: June 03, 2018, 04:40:49 PM
It is mandatory in many cases to have a bitcoin talk account for joining any ICO bounty program. But afterward each bounty manager asks for separate KYC. Is it not possible to centrally store KYC at Bitcoin talk account from where bounty manager can access details of bitcoin account holder who is participating in particular bounty. In such way it can be easily known that  in how many bounties one is participating ,indirectly how is he contributing to forum or mostly posting bounty related posts.

It's not mandatory to have a forum account for ICOs and many ICOs just list here but have their own sites, but theymos would never do this and has previously stated so. Besides, the companies probably have to do their own individual KYC verifications and likely won't be able to just rely on this forum for that.
3246  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SebastianJu flaked with escrow on: June 02, 2018, 06:36:24 PM
I doubt he's scammed you for a measly 0.02325674 as he could easily take more than that if he wanted (though maybe there's others as well, but I doubt it). I think it's probably more of a case of him being busy or whatever. It's only been a couple of days and SJ doesn't seem terribly active these days so that could be why. Probably not acceptable for an escrow with ongoing transactions but I doubt he's done a runner for such a figure.

3247  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 02, 2018, 01:49:57 PM
Well, right up until the tournament kicks off I guess, but if you want to join during the final game I won't say no  Cheesy. I think predictions might have to be in before the first game starts on the bracket challenge on the FIFA site though. I'll probably start collecting money in late next week but people can still join in after that.
3248  Other / Meta / Re: Demand for sig managers on: June 02, 2018, 01:26:56 PM
You can include me, but aren't there already several lists comprising of sig managers?
I already have, waiting for your PM. Check your main account. Smiley
How is this list going to be compiled or ordered? What is the criteria for being on it? Do you have to be trusted or have previously ran campaigns?
The list has a lot of details, its certainly big,and the criteria includes a lot of factors and anti-spam management, experience play a part of it. There are mnay more factors too.

Are you going to list anyone who wants to be a manager? If not, how do new users get on it?
No. New users get on it,by doing it the hard way. The same way how old campaign managers got opportunities to manage campaigns, not because of the list but because of their skill.
Are you going to list managers like sylon who's campaigns are continually abused by farmers and bots and he pays anyone to make any old crap including the 200 Russian farmers who regurgitate the same nonsense on each of their accounts?
No.
The list is medium-big I guess,15-19 people are there so far,my selection has been very picky and it shall be out once all of them send a confirmation.

But on what criteria and who gets to decide which manager is 'anti-spam' or 'competent', or has enough 'experience'? What happens if managers like Darkstar don't meet the criteria because they haven't run many campaigns (even though in my opinion he is probably running the best campaign right now in terms of spam management and reputation)? Who gets to say managers like Sylon won't be involved and what is the criteria for not including him? I'm sure sylon and many others will argue they should be on there and him being terrible as a campaign manager is just my opinion. In what order are they going to be listed? Most trusted? Person who has ran the most campaigns? All these just lead to more questions and issues and this is the trouble with centralised lists. A list with 20 campaign managers will probably include ones far worse than sylon as well (or even worse, turn out to be scammers).
3249  Other / Meta / Re: These boards require additional moderators on: June 02, 2018, 01:09:52 PM
A solution could be to disable signatures for anybody at -4 red trust DT2.
This would undoubtedly lead to abuse where several members on the DT2 aren't really considered trustworthy themselves and have a few negatives from people on DT2. Anyway aren't most signature campaigns disallowing people with red trust from joining? So it should not be a problem.

Yeah, I don't think this would be a good idea and would lead to a lot of hysterical crying and possibly malicious abuse. Most scammers can't join signature campaigns anyway, but on the flip side there are campaigns that will accept them, but I don't think negative feedback should wholly disqualify you from campaigns (but this should be decided on a case by case basis).
3250  Other / Meta / Re: These boards require additional moderators on: June 02, 2018, 01:01:04 PM
You can argue whether we're volunteers or not. Staff are paid every month, but we're not technically employees.
On most forums I know, moderators aren't paid at all. And most forums have much less spam too. It feels like a fight that was lost the moment spammers got away with earning money from their spam.
It's a vicious circle: if the spam would be handled fast enough, they wouldn't earn from it, and spam wouldn't be worth it. At the moment there's too much spam to handle, they get away with it, and earn money.

I've been a mod of several forums before and you're right that they're normally just volunteer positions but this forum is pretty unique really with the amount of money that is able to be earned here which just exacerbates the problems as the forum continues to grow at an exponential rate. As with most forums, they tend to go through staff pretty quickly as it's largely a thankless task and this would be infinitely worse if there was no mod payments as people would just give up because it wouldn't be worth the stress or hassle. Many staff have already walked away or got burnt out over the years (BadBear, tysat, miningbuddy just to name a few), and there's quite a few more that seem to get less and less active with each passing month (grue and some of the local mods etc), and the more and more users that sign up here the bigger the workload gets piled on existing staff, so that's why the workload should be distributed a bit or more staff added to meet demand.
3251  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA WORLD CUP 2018? on: June 02, 2018, 12:43:33 PM
I am getting pretty excited as the first match of the world cup will be play in two weeks time, and I have already decided to put some of my money on Russia to beat Saudi Arabia in full time on this opening match. In my opinion, Saudi Arabia is not a very strong team and I believe Russia will surely want to win this match at home ground to reward the home fans who comes to support them at the stadium.

I don't think any team will struggle against Saudi. Saudi could struggle to score at all I think, though maybe they'll get lucky. Egypt probably won't be up to much without Salah so I think Russia and Uruguay should easily go through from that group.

On the strength of Germany can be said to be a unique, look at Germany's defending World Cup!

Brazil may be able to create a bit of trouble for Germany, but the world is in Europe, and the rule that champions come from Europe has never been broken.

Germany vs Brazil would be a great final. Could easily happen as well.

Bitcointalk's World Cup Pool is still open for anyone interested: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4130568.0
3252  Other / Meta / Re: UserLog request, same as ModLog but for user activity+more ideas. BOT PROOF VIDeo on: June 02, 2018, 12:38:47 PM

If all the above quoted one liners are considered generic crap, and we start to report in the Altcoin discussion, you'll end up banning the whole thread in a weekend Smiley

I locked that thread earlier until I get an explanation. I think they've likely been told to post in that thread as a bounty requirement.

Seriously, if they are not bump bots but just "normal" bounty hunters / farmed accounts, why all of the accounts on the page (http://archive.is/7B93z) had just 5 or 6 activities that time? Is it possible that new bump bot accounts are registered for every day/week/topic etc?

You're linking to a completely different thread there. Those are probably bots but not the ones I quoted above.
3253  Economy / Digital goods / Re: WTS Audible credit codes on: June 02, 2018, 12:03:55 PM
How many of these do you have left? And can you add all of the codes to one account? I know you mentioned it earlier, but is there a limit?

I have ten or so codes left, but I have quite a lot of credits stocked up on my audible account too. I don't think there's a limit to how many you can use as I've added a fair few to my own account with no issues. I might be able to get more also. I can just download the books to mp3 and send you them if you prefer.

Anyone noticed this bot spam in Off Topic recently?

I think they're related to the Russian bump bot services. Probably farming accounts getting ready to use. Pretty easy to spot though giving the naming of them:

A man starts with good health, but he is not happy with it. Man sacrifices his health to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present. The result being that he does not live in the present or the future. He lives as if he is never going to die and then dies having never lived at all

He’s got a great idea of how to disrupt his industry. I think his idea is great. Drew and I had coffee to discuss his options.
3255  Other / Meta / Re: These boards require additional moderators on: June 01, 2018, 12:33:21 PM
The entire board is over run with shit threads. I've been suggesting for a while that most sub boards need at least one dedicated non-Global mod, but until we tackle the issue at the source and do something about those who are paying them to make this mess nothing will change no matter how much moderation power you throw at it. Even a handful of new moderators can't win against hundreds if not thousands of automated bots and many multiples more of desperate shitposters who are signing up here to earn a living. More and more ICOs post here month after month and hundreds of spammers sign up every day often with multiple alt accounts each to claim their bounties and that's something that just isn't manageable. If campaigns pay these people then they need to be punished. If people only got paid for quality posts then the culture around here would change pretty quickly.
3256  Other / Meta / Re: Will Merit system turn to decentralized ? on: June 01, 2018, 12:26:19 PM
This isn't a decentralised forum. Your idea isn't decentralised either. You're just making merit free for everyone. You might as well just get rid of the merit system if we were going to go along with your suggestion because merit would become worthless. People would just give hundreds of merits to their alts or "friends" / "cousins" / "neighbours" etc to rank up. Completely flawed suggestion.
3257  Other / Meta / Re: Why was my Bitcointalk account deleted! on: June 01, 2018, 08:16:51 AM
Sharing knowledge is nothing wrong, especially the purpose of this forum is to sharing knowledge. Even there are false, you should send out a warning before taking serious action like Blocking Account. Duplication of content is unavoidable on such a large forum

No, plagiarism is avoidable. You avoid it by not doing it. You do know there's a difference between 'sharing knowledge' and plagiarism? I'm guessing you just changed a few words of the above quoted posts to avoid detection on what you copied so you obviously knew what you were doing. We really don't need any more shitposters or copy and pasters here. If only people did actually share knowledge instead of plagiarism or making low quality contributions then forum wouldn't be such as shit show and we wouldn't need to ban people for this, but people being deceptive and lazy by tying to cheat campaigns out of money should be dealt with sternly because there are no excuses for this.
3258  Other / Meta / Re: Demand for sig managers on: June 01, 2018, 08:10:13 AM
Recently, a few different people emailed me asking about how forum advertising works, including sig advertising. I tell them about the inhouse forum ads, of course, but I get the sense that they are very interested in running sig-ad campaigns.

I wouldn't be so sure. I get messages occasionally asking about sig campaigns and half of the time I can't tell whether they're just another clueless spammer that has heard you can earn money here but has no idea what they're doing, a person who wants me to run their campaign for them, or just how they go about running a campaign themselves. Engaging with them is usually fruitless and a waste of time and I still end up none the wiser in what they actually want from me.

Am still waiting for a few managers to respond back to my PMs so that the thread can be up and ready by tomorrow atleast.  Smiley

You can include me, but aren't there already several lists comprising of sig managers? How is this list going to be compiled or ordered? What is the criteria for being on it? Do you have to be trusted or have previously ran campaigns? Are you going to list anyone who wants to be a manager? If not, how do new users get on it? 3259  Other / Meta / Re: Can't we make a dedicated space to sig campaigns on: June 01, 2018, 07:58:14 AM
You want an area just for shitposters to shitpost in? If there was only one board where sig campaigners can post then it would defeat the allure of sig campaigns and they would cease to exist because they would be just advertising to nobody other than other shitposters who all they care about is spamming. As I've been saying for years, punishments or restrictions need to be handed out to people who don't run their campaigns properly if at all. If this happened then things would quickly change around here but as long as campaign managers can get away with paying anyone to post rubbish then they'll just sit back and collect their paycheck month after month whilst doing the minimal amount of work.
3260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: May 29, 2018, 10:21:22 AM
I would rather wait to a week or so before to collect all the money in so everyone pays in the same amount in bitcoin.
