Ok. Now we are getting somewhere!
I pledge 10 BTC towards the above app as open source. I will keep this open for at least 60 days. I want all seven items but will pay the 10 BTC for just the first five. I do need it to be compiled into a windows compatible exe or installer so I can actually use it.

1) Encrypted master wallet - encrypted with a master password key separate of other passwords in the system. It is not needed to start the program but it is needed to get the wallet file in an unscrambled version.
Done, can I claim part of the bounty? Will probably show up in 0.4.0 (the version after next). That feature alone will not do much to help me out with the quest for doing retail trading of bitcoin. It is the combination of features that allows it to be used for retail. To me the email interactivity is optional but I need 1-5 to do anything resembling regular retail trade.

IMO, 10 BTC is a pitiful amount for a business application.
Of course it is. The idea is for a group of people to pay a fair amount, not one user pay for it all. A program being available would cause bitcoin to be more useful and therefore more popular.

Difficulty does not drive price, only the reverse is true. However, an increase in press exposure and interest may cause a rise to $10 next week.
The miners that sell their bitcoins on mt. gox are about to have 60% less to sell. Unless there's suddenly a random 60% drop in demand then of course the price will go up. Press exposure is the biggest determiner of price but supply has an effect as well. That is true. Some of them are currently selling cheap too!

The idea Tycho would do something with his 'powers' as soon as his pool reaches 50% is just simply stupid.
Currently (in the current market) the guy makes 1000 - 1300$ PER DAY , that is 30k to 39k PER MONTH. In untaxed money even.
He would be stupid to do anything to destabilize the bitcoin market.
The idea that his pool is too large is not stupid, it is a valid concern. If you are worried about the security of bitcoin you should try to not put such a large area of trust in anyone's hands. While I agree it is not in Tycho's interest to do anything bad and really doubt he would..... an intrusion (attack) into his systems (online or physical) could effect the network.

I just bought an album on bandcamp for the first time today. I will write them a note about bitcoin as a customer.
I had to use paypal with them and I really would have rather used bitcoin.

I would love to see an advanced bitcoin client that has a number of features 1) Encrypted master wallet - encrypted with a master password key separate of other passwords in the system. It is not needed to start the program but it is needed to get the wallet file in an unscrambled version. 2 ) log in. Keeps track of users and passwords and how many BTC they can access in the wallet and their privileges such as sending transaction. 3 ) cash ledger. Keeps track of how much cash has been received and paid out. 4) settable fees for exchange, by percent, minimum and flat fee 5 ) customer information. optionally all information needed to fill out a 1099 for customers receiving enough money to legally need one in the USA. 6 ) email interface send coins. Program can log into a standard email address and send and receive email. Customer sends request to give address, program sends a secret code to email address and requests customer send email back with that code and their payment receiving address. Customer comes in with cash and that code. When cash is paid, program sends bitcoins to that address 7) email interface receive coins. Customer sends email request to pay coins. Program responds with a secret code and an address to send to. Customer comes in with that code and picks up the cash. Customers may fill out information via email in advance. I put this together fast, I am sure others can add/improve the above. I bet a bunch of people would be willing to pay BTC for it as an open source project. I would put at least 10 btc towards this.

Well from variety of product I would say BitMunchies.com. I would say another business that sells higher priced items but they do not seem on their site to take bitcoin but just sell a bitcoin related product.

Thanks for the good information. This is something to watch out for but not anything unique to mtgox.com especially since they enabled SSL. If it is not an SSL connection to mtgox then there is a PROBLEM!
Cool song too, I think I will search out that group.

Anybody here still selling dummy plugs?
I am selling the resistors to build dummy plugs for bitcoins. Well at least at the current exchange rate... less then .4 btc shipped. http://cryptoanarchy.us/ Fixed my link! I am also shipping to Canada for the same price, .99 cents in BTC. So currently 3 resistors shipped is around .35btc plus you can add a bumper sticker for about .2 btc.

The three day waiting period is negotiable, but the general idea is to provide, albeit a small, protection against the wild price swings. All the while you have the record 'on reserve'.
I'd be open to receiving a single bitcoin to reserve the record, then three days later the final price is agreed upon. A full refund is possible at any point until the record ships.
There is currently no website for BitVinyl specifically right now, but judging on interest from here there may be one shortly.
Shipping rates are comparable to what it would cost in US dollars. I'll post a more accurate rate shortly.

I think the hold period and asking for more btc will cause customer anger. Just Gox your btc daily if you are worried about price swings.

Its much, much cheaper than frying a board full of 5850's, which could cost you all your parts AND weeks worth of lost mining.
Not everyone has stable power. Those who do tend to not see the value in line conditioning. Its insurance. Not an investment.
I had bought five UPS's around 2005 for my internet service. They caused more problems then they fixed! One seemed to die every few months TURNING OFF the system they were connected to even though there was no power failure. Buy name brand stuff like APC. Mine bad ones were I think from Cyberpower. If anyone is in the Maryland area I have some large rack mount 2U APC professional UPS systems. They take in 220v and have outless for 120v out. They worked for years without failing but now they need new batteries (which are available for about $20 each x 8 needed). These APC units are available for free.

Oh my god, how stupid is that!??
What's the point of having a debt ceiling if congress keeps increasing it each time it is reached?
It's a joke, right?
No, unfortunately this is true. They will raise the ceiling again soon.

It's generally cheaper to mine Bitcoins while recouping the cost of the rig than to buy them second-hand. At least that's the case for now.
Um, no, it's the exact opposite. If you bought a mining rig 2/4/6 months ago, you would have less bitcoin-value than if you had simply bought bitcoins on the open market. This is true. If you purchased $500 worth of bitcoins two months ago you would have more then $2000 worth today. If you would have purchased a rig you might have $500 worth of coins and the rig (which is still producing) but that is half the amount if you would have just purchased the coins. Try to do your own research and understand bitcoin and where the price of bitcoin would be in two months, six months etc.

The "mystery case" sounds a lot like my Rosewill CHALLENGER. I find it to be a very nice case, in fact I have two of them. Others recommend cases such as the Antec 100 or one of the CoolerMaster HAF flavors, but for me (I'm only using single cards) the CHALLENGER is a very nice case. I've modded one of mine and mounted two 8w fans to the outside. They won't fit on the inside because they are industrial; they are full metal body and about twice as thick as a normal plastic 120mm fan. I'm not quite sure of the CF/M, but they are loud as hell and keep my card very cool, even when heavily overclocked. This is why I did not go with the cheapest CoolerMaster HAF, because it only have one 120mm side mount.
The Coolermaster HAF 912 is for me the best mining rig case for a 2 card miner. You can even properly mount a 2.5" laptop sata drive (my favored drive now) properly without any additional pieces. I used the ultra-blaster case for other rigs because I got them cheap, but seeing the HAF 912 I just wanna re-case them all now.

I would recommend that you have the person send the money as a 'gift', gifts cannot be charged back or are very hard to charge back in paypal.
While that us a good suggestion, nothing is hard about initiating a preypal chargeback.

Wouldn't it be easiest, at the moment, to have accounts and balances at each exchange. Then if you saw an opportunity, you could take it without waiting for transfers.
Yes, this is the way. It takes bitcoins to make bitcoins Have ready money in multiple spots and buy the underpriced coins, move them to the better market and sell them. It will also in the end help regulate price. You would have to get lucky enough for blocks to be generated fast enough before the price changed. I have seen the price differences last for days, not hours or minutes. The main risk would be loosing money in the case of a problem with the exchanges themselves (such as hacks, etc) and opportunity cost.

My job is about letting people exchange bitcoins, what else can I say? Yeah, but you just bought and let it sit there When do we get MtGox 2.0? I have seen new features added such as Dwolla and API related stuff. Also I can imagine just the growth and dealing with the DDOS attacks has kept Tux busy. I would like to see more shopping cart interfaces to mtgox, though that does not necessarily fall into mtgox's responsibility to implement them.
