3341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dont miss the Christmas Special! December 25th on BitTalk.TV! on: December 26, 2011, 03:00:52 PM
So are you gonna change the name to Day after Christmas Special?  Or maybe How do I Adobe?   Wink
3342  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can bitcoin cure cancer? on: December 26, 2011, 02:45:39 PM
This thread got way too many serious answers.  If only you could slap people through the internet.  Maybe we could integrate this into that blockchain delivery system.  Gosh bitcoin really does solve everything.

3343  Other / Off-topic / Re: Don't have a credit card? You are a terrorist! [RT News] on: December 26, 2011, 02:26:19 PM
Just found this on RT facebook page:

Quote
Do you own flashlights? Or pay with cash instead of a credit card? And do grocery shopping for the week? I do. You probably do – and guess what, according to the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, that could make both of us terrorists...

http://rt.com/news/terrorism-credit-cards-government-613/

I just read the linked page. What stops me from calling the proper authorities and make up a story of how I just witnessed a truck leaving the back of some hotel after loading up with what looked like guns to me, and the hotel owner just happened to wear a towel around his head? Or, for that matter, the hotel owner is a redneck-type individual who rubbed me the wrong way when I checked in, coupled with the hot water not being hot enough (or too hot)? Or calling about that crazy guy down the street who's always acting weird? Or, and you liked this one, calling on my ex-wife because she bought 3 flashlights?

Well nothing stops you, you could always do that.  Filing a false police report is a real consequence though, can be a felony depending on the case.  The person you called the cops on can also file a civil suit independently; slander, loss of business, fees, whatever else the lawyers can think of.

I said trap, not failure.  Interesting you think the two are the same though, they really aren't.

hey if this is your idea of a trap I can live with this

Me too, already hit my bids.

An MMO as your first major project?  I think you are underestimating what it would actually take to make and maintain a persistent game world.  And how do you plan to pay the artists, modelers, content designers, coders(surely you don't think you can code an entire mmo w/netcode from scratch by yourself)?
3347  Other / Off-topic / Re: mizerydearia's obnoxious health escapade on: December 26, 2011, 12:16:56 PM
Go to the doctor once and don't pay the medical bill unless you absolutely have to to get another appointment

Good way to ruin your credit rating.
3348  Economy / Speculation / Re: Major correction to rally coming... on: December 26, 2011, 12:03:48 PM
I'm with you, I called it as being a trap and I think I'll be proved right soon.

LOL!

lol indeed

3349  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many of you have been Zhoutonged? on: December 25, 2011, 07:35:48 PM
Maybe, I haven't used bitcoinica since it hit 2, cashed out and now I do a little bit of day trading, but not much.  Mostly I'm just holding, waiting to see what's gonna happen.
3350  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many of you have been Zhoutonged? on: December 25, 2011, 06:25:11 PM
Bitcoinica may be threatened when mtgox adds options/margin trading.  That doesn't mean that will happen any time soon.  MtGox is a slow moving beast.  Why discourage Zhoutong when he is providing a valuable service not available elsewhere?  He has clearly demonstrated (IMHO) better responsiveness and more agile development.  Unless you have inside info you're not sharing, MtGox hasn't said anything about this since they posted it on their site over 6 months ago.

He's always been a hater.  Probably just jealousy.

typical comment from a guy who's missed a 217% ramp off the bottom that i called 2d before it happened  Smiley

and you're a moderator?

lol I didn't miss anything, don't worry about me, I'm doing great  Grin  You really should relax a little bit, can't be good to be so hostile on Christmas!
And yes I am!

3352  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help. New to bitcoin mining. Suggestions? on: December 25, 2011, 02:02:02 AM
I wouldn't even bother with an atom netbook.  Mining is pretty competitive, and even those who get creative and have efficient setups aren't making much profit, and a lot are only making any profit if you don't count the fact that they haven't paid off their hardware yet, and the fact that it's winter.  There are more who are mining at a loss but are counting on bitcoins being worth more in the future.

I think this tells us a lot about how you think:

The smartest student, I think, is the one who finds the most efficient means of passing any examination or test they come across.

Yes, even by cheating
The smartest student is the one who learns the most.

School is about the acquisition of knowledge, not passing exams or having a high GPA.

This times a million.

Grades show nothing but how well you comply (which in itself is a valuable measure for gaining employment). An A+ while working your ass off in my mind is no different than a C without trying.
i get 12(the highest) in math, without even trying to do be best. the lessons bores me, and all the stuff we learn i learn in about 10 min, while the other students are struggling... im not working my ass off to get a A+.

Schoolwork has been dumbed down a lot these days, if you want to be challenged public school isn't where you need to be looking.

Have you seen a doctor?  Or a psychiatrist?
3356  Other / Off-topic / Re: Apology to OldEngineer on: December 24, 2011, 05:16:23 PM
little, but it was the "everyone" part i did not like. please do not include me.

Because when someone says "everyone" they truly mean every last person on earth... right?
sure they do! ALWAYS!

joking aside... i don't think individuals should say talk for the community, without at least a great majority agrees.
it was just to say that i disagree with his statement, and i do not wish to get included in his "everyone".

Then why not just say so?

"Fuck you, i do not agree! please edit your post! IDIOT!"

Just makes you look irrational and childish.

Sounds like quite a moneymaking scheme.  You must be a CEO on Wall Street.

If there was any possibility at all that the above post would have been a sticky, then no abuse of power.  Something tells me you can't just insert any name in that post and expect it to have went down the same.

Agreed, nothing wrong with making the thread but making it a sticky is unwarranted.
3359  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nagle on: December 24, 2011, 12:22:56 PM
How about we make a chart for Proudhon-agle, we'll call it "STFU already, we know where you stand, save your breath"

Seriously, if you gave half as much effort in bitching and whining about how bitcoin will fail into your personal life, you'd be a lot better off..

Im seriously sick of you Proudhon, you have learned NOTHING!

You're the epitome of misery loves company..  Spread your cheer somewhere else..

Good grief man, do you get this mad at everyone who has a different opinion than you?
3360  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin-accepting organizations' acceptance/usage of GoDaddy which supports SOPA on: December 23, 2011, 06:58:38 PM
Actually I'd like to go back to something you posted earlier.

I don't believe SOPA will be an effective method in censoring the internet. Every time a gov wants to censor something they would have to tie it up with piracy or counter-fitting, other than cases such as wikileaks it will be very hard for them to justify and prosecute a censorship case with SOPA. and people will take notice and react if it occurs, so I'm not really worried about SOPA censoring anything effectively. but the issue with piracy remains...

If it does pass, it will be easy to get around it as you said.  However this brings up a whole new set of problems as outlined in this paper
http://www.circleid.com/posts/20110525_experts_urge_congress_to_reject_proposed_dns_filtering_protect_ip/

Quote
The U.S. Government and private industry have identified Internet security and stability as a key part of a wider cyber security strategy, and if implemented, the DNS related provisions of PROTECT IP would weaken this important commitment.

DNS filters would be evaded easily, and would likely prove ineffective at reducing online infringement. Further, widespread circumvention would threaten the security and stability of the global DNS.

The DNS provisions would undermine the universality of domain names, which has been one of the key enablers of the innovation, economic growth, and improvements in communications and information access unleashed by the global Internet.

Migration away from ISP-provided DNS servers would harm efforts that rely on DNS data to detect and mitigate security threats and improve network performance.

Dependencies within the DNS would pose significant risk of collateral damage, with filtering of one domain potentially affecting users' ability to reach non-infringing Internet content.

The site redirection envisioned in Section 3(d)(II)(A)(ii) is inconsistent with security extensions to the DNS that are known as DNSSEC. The U.S. Government and private industry have identified DNSSEC as a key part of a wider cyber security strategy, and many private, military, and governmental networks have invested in DNSSEC technologies.

If implemented, this section of the PROTECT IP Act would weaken this important effort to improve Internet security. It would enshrine and institutionalize the very network manipulation that DNSSEC must fight in order to prevent cyberattacks and other malevolent behavior on the global Internet, thereby exposing networks and users to increased security and privacy risks.

Quote
First, the DNS filters that would be required to enforce SOPA could be easily defeated, rendering them useless. Criminals could develop ways to redirect users to DNS servers outside the U.S. and SOPA’s influence, and users may even look for these foreign and/or unregulated DNS servers if the sites they are trying to locate have been blocked in their ISP’s DNS as a consequence of SOPA.
