3361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork for Dummies? on: August 01, 2017, 08:00:03 AM
My BTC Core wallet stopped signaling about wrong format blocks/transactions. Does it mean that nobody of miners really is mining big-size blocks now?

if the warning you have in mind is this:
Quote
Warning: Unknown block versions being mined! It's possible unknown rules are in effect
then you have nothing to worry about it was the BIP91 signaling which used a different version bit for their blocks. you can read more details about it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2027513.0

if you have a different warning in mind then copy the exact warning message here so you can get a better help.

and the time for neither forks have yet arrived. BCC is in a couple of hours, and I am not sure when SegWit will be finalized and forks. see the details here: https://www.xbt.eu/
3362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork for Dummies? on: August 01, 2017, 07:40:37 AM
Lots of people are still running UASF nodes and if anyone tries to make a block not signaling for segwit the network will fork. Am I wrong?

I believe the correct way of saying it this:
if someone tries to make a block with a different version (not signaling for SegWit) the network will reject that block and orphan it. afterwards there is a chance of a longer than 1 orphaned chain in case someone decides to build on it (for example because of spy mining).
and it won't be just because of BIP148 (UASF) it will also be because all the rest of the miners are enforcing BIP91 and if they do it properly they technically should reject those blocks.
3363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork for Dummies? on: August 01, 2017, 07:21:56 AM
- No, it has not yet happened.
- it is called Bitcoin Cash short form is either BCC or BCH!
- the announcement in altcoin board has all the links (use at your own risk, this is not a suggestion I am just pointing you to the link): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2040221.0
- you will receive the same amount of bitcoin you have before the fork on the fork. for example if you have 1 bitcoin you will also have 1 bitcoin cash you just have to claim it
3364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are you expecting after 1st-Aug? on: August 01, 2017, 07:01:15 AM
The most expected, and maybe most important day for BTC  is today. What are you expecting is going to happen post 1st Aug?

today (Aug 1st) was only important when BIP148 danger was a thing but since SegWit adoption grew to a complete 100% there is no longer any danger and nothing important.
there is only 1 change today and that will be the fork called bitcoin cash. the importance of this will be shown after a while (probably a month from now). and how the price, the mining, ... will react to it. for example it is interesting to see which miners will support this fork for real and why would they do it when they would be losing money.
3365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do you call BCC/BCH a fork ? on: August 01, 2017, 06:56:15 AM
fork is a programming term, which means something like "copy the code and change some stuff and release a new version".
here is an example from github. this is the trending repository of the day:

if you click the fork button, you create a fork of this repository. then you can change what you want in its code and release your own version.

with bitcoin, your fork and change needs to be accepted by the majority of the people on this decentralized system to become bitcoin. SegWit was the fork that got this majority support.
bitcoin classic, bitcoin xt, bitcoin unlimited, bitcoin cash, ... are the forks that never got anywhere near majority support and that is why there is a lot of fuss about it. but you can always fork and even mine your own version of bitcoin as long as you have money to burn on mining, electricity,...
3366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reminders for today: #1 DON'T PANIC! on: July 31, 2017, 09:39:51 AM
all I can see these days are sharp teeth of a lot of whales who are going to receive a lot of money for free. and if anyone panics like before they will be waiting for them with wide open mouth to swallow them whole. like they always do.

apart from price related stuff there are obviously a lot of malicious people sharpening their teeth for mistakes people make

3367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: After Aug. 1st - Will Bitcoin Die? Will Bitcoin Crash? Will BCC Surpass BTC??? on: July 31, 2017, 08:51:37 AM
there is no issue in my opinion. it is just a fork and anyone can do it any time they want. this is not the first and will not be the last either.

the thing is if anyone wanted to really make something useful they would have done it on a new project not fork bitcoin with such a small amount of support.
do you think everyone was always happy with how bitcoin is? that is why there are so many altcoins exist.
some day Charlie Lee decided a different version of bitcoin is needed, with faster blocks (less time between them) and some other stuff so he forked bitcoin and created Litecoin. and this is what normal people do with no agenda.

with that said, nothing will happen to bitcoin. it is too big and already adopted. the price may be affected a little and have some fluctuations but in the end everything will be back to normal and bitcoin on the rising track and BCC on the same list as the rest of the altcoins are.
3368  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another Fun Poll for BTC vs BCC on: July 31, 2017, 08:19:07 AM
I will make sure to dump all the BCC I get as fast as I can.

we have all seen what happens to altcoins with similar approach. when they give free altcoins to bitcoin holders, they just dump those coins and price always goes down. and it continues to go down as more people start claiming their coins and dumping them.

and to this day there has been no exception, even for good altcoins like Byteball.

3370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: @RogerVer can little guys get in on this deal too on: July 26, 2017, 07:49:43 AM
All these bets are really dumb.
this is not a bet, it is a trade.

It's not like Roger Ver is going to trade absolutely gigantic amounts of BTC for several times less BCC tokens than he could buy at the market price.
stop thinking in fiat terms and you'll realize what I am talking about. also try reading the last line I've added to OP.
1 unit of bitcoin is 1 unit of bitcoin the same as they say 1 Doge = 1 Doge.

also trading (swapping) two tokens will take place 100% decentralized and off the exchange and away from government knowledge.
trading (buying) tokens requires you to go on an exchange deposit fiat and answer to the government later on.
3371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / @RogerVer can little guys get in on this deal too on: July 26, 2017, 06:42:30 AM
I would to make a deal too. I am by no means a whale nor a little fish and I would love to trade the coin that I believe in (BTC) for the coin that you believe in (BCC) with a 1 for 1 (1:1) trade. (my BCC for your BTC)

I see the whale offers and I want in on it Grin

I am not yet sure about all the details of this process but with a trusted escrow and a 2 of 3 multisig I am down. I am sure there are a lot of little fishes like me who would love this deal also.

p.s. I will lock any amount I have, will get, will buy, will earn for at least 5 years so the current prices doesn't matter to me at all.

so what happens to the payments that fell inside the period when wallet was empty? (for the record it is 0.014BTC for me Roll Eyes)

anyways, sad to see them end their business. and thanks for having me in your campaign. wish you luck.
3374  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the best way to make money with bitcoin in 2017? on: July 22, 2017, 08:35:57 AM
With Bitcoin? By creating an ICO, you don't even need Bitcoin to make money. Easiest money ever! /s

On a serious note, holding Bitcoin seems the best strategy so far in 2017.

LOL, this is so true that it is starting to get ridiculous.
you can see newbies everyday asking "how to make my own altcoin, or ICO" and they don't even know what a cryptocurrency is and have never even seen a line of code in their entire lives!
and yet people pour their money in their pockets in the name of ICO and they make a lot of money because there are idiots who will always hand them their money!!!

this is coming to an end though. it won't last forever. the newbies run out of money and will soon realize how they are losing money. and then a new method of scamming them emerges!
3375  Economy / Speculation / Re: it seems panic is stop. time to invest everything. on: July 22, 2017, 05:22:55 AM
if you have money. you can now start investing but it would be much better if you wait a little more time because im pretty sure that the bitcoin price will dump again after august 1st and after a day don't be surprised if the price will have a big pump. you can search all over the net or here in this forum about their prediction on bitcoin price after august 1st.
It is actually wise to take the plunge when everybody is in panic mode. Now the price has normalized and you may not see great gains. If you had invested sub 2k, it would have been different.

things are not over yet. price has just came back to its normal previous level before the FUD dump. there is still the activation of SegWit rise, so far we have seen the lock in rise there are still so many more hype-able rises.
and in general you see "great gains" in long term no matter what price you buy bitcoin at!
3376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BIP 91 activation is scheduled to take place in: 350 Blocks on: July 22, 2017, 05:04:32 AM
Now the BIP 141 is trying to lock in. But this time, it needs 95% and so far only 51.2% of the blocks have signaled it. So it is not projected to lock in during this signalling period. But I have high hopes for the next signaling period, because 94.4% of the blocks which were mined today supported the SegWit (the BIP 141 version).
Then what should we do with this news, do we have to sell all bitcoin to fiat? I'm also worried about the BIP 91 issue that made me sell 1.75 btc a few days ago.

if you get scared of things you don't understand or generally if you are scared with each bump on the road then you did the best thing to sell because bitcoin will have these types of drama and bumps on the road until it reaches $10,000 and you won't last long with a weak heart Wink
3377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [F2Pool and SegWit] is the "Wang" at it again? on: July 20, 2017, 05:08:18 PM
F2Pool finally decided to start signaling the correct version for BIP91
https://blockchain.info/block-height/476718

was this just laziness to push the patch up to their servers or were they just waiting to see what percentages does this gain? or was it more going on behind the scenes?

and by the way with this new big change, there is no doubt for activation now. #tothemoon
3378  Economy / Speculation / Re: 10 days left, what will you do during this period? on: July 20, 2017, 11:01:05 AM
continue buying whenever I get my hands on any more money, and continue trading altcoins to increase the bitcoin that I already have. and enjoy bitcoin's long term price rise.

oh sorry I thought you were asking what I am going to do in general. let me read your question again.

in next 10 days I will:
continue buying whenever I get my hands on any more money, and continue trading altcoins to increase the bitcoin that I already have. and enjoy bitcoin's long term price rise.

3379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The OFFICIAL SegWit2x Lock-in Thread on: July 20, 2017, 10:41:00 AM
80 % miners vote for Segwit but 20 % Big- blockers oppose to them. They may build their own coin BCC bitcoin cash. They will run their own pools, mining, nodes and nework.
https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/segwit-reaches-80-of-the-hashrate-likely-to-soon-activate/
But everything can be changed, let's wait for the Aug 1. Hope the price of bitcoin will not dump because of this issue.

the big blockers aren't 20%, they are about 40% supporting Emergent Consensus (BU). but they are also supporting SegWit!
the BCC crap is another story, it is just bitmain that is doing it and it has no community support, nor the developers support behind it.

also we don't have to wait for August 1, things will probably be locked in and clear in about half a day Cheesy
3380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [F2Pool and SegWit] is the "Wang" at it again? *not anymore on: July 20, 2017, 10:26:18 AM
in case you don't remember here is the twitter games Wang Chun of F2Pool played during the Litecoin SegWit activation.

F2Pool has clearly been supporting NYA agreement also known as SegWit2x with their coinbase text
Code:
F/NYA/,mmX刔f㹭9,kۖT&J🐟Mined by andjeloketh

but for some reason their block versions are still 0x20000002 instead of being 0x20000012 to indicate both.

I couldn't find anything on his twitter though. I don't know how else they announce stuff like this. is this just trolling or did they forget how to signal Cheesy
if anyone has more information on this please share here.

on another note it doesn't seem to matter! according to stats currently there is 80% support without F2Pool!!! and in the end it won't matter because they ARE signaling for SegWit with bit 1, even if they don't change anything and BIP91 activates everything is still fine.
