2461  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin in 2018 will be at $50,000 on: February 05, 2018, 08:55:20 AM
unfortunately it is no possible to tell how long will this current bear market last for. it can reverse tomorrow and start the rally up towards the ATH or it can take a year to stop and reverse upwards. I don't think it will take more than a year though.
depending on how long it will take to end this downtrend the final price of bitcoin by this year's end can be very different. I can be from $10k to $100k.

if I were a betting man I would say $50k which was predicted in that article is a safe bet.
2462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people look at their portfolio value in bitcoin rather than Fiat? on: February 05, 2018, 08:39:14 AM
My portfolio is up in bitcoin!” But it’s down in fiat.
I don't think that has been a possible scenario in the past week or so because altcoins are going down. and going down means they not only lose their fiat value but also they lose their BTC value. I have not seen any coin that has not done this so far apart from a couple that were being pumped which means they went up both against bitcoin and fiat alike!

Quote
It seems to be a way for people to bury their heads in the sand and pretend they haven’t lost. It’s a safe space. The fact remains that if you want to buy a lambo, you may be able to use bitcoin, but they will look at the fiat value. So stop kidding yourselves.
as I said these people's portfolio is also going down against bitcoin.
but generally speaking people look at their "portfolio" value in terms of bitcoin because in the end they will dump all of them to get bitcoin and in long term the ones holding more bitcoin are richer than the ones holding lots of altcoins that decline in value in long term.
2463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: share info about bitcoin on: February 05, 2018, 08:24:57 AM
today, bitcoin is not like 2017, what's your stare with this news ,,, maybe in the middle tau 20018, going up again ,,,,,, i am confused with this btc, is there with btc today, trunya very bad ,,,, or dropped irregularly

bitcoin is actually pretty similar to 2017, today! we had the same drops during the first 2 months of 2017 before the rise started. not saying that it is going to be the same this year but so far it has been somewhat similar.

and it is pretty hard to understand what you are saying. you don't seem to even spend time in typing a proper question.
2464  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting in bitcoin is legal or illegal? on: February 03, 2018, 12:33:33 PM
it has nothing to do with bitcoin but it is a general law about online gambling.
in some countries it is illegal or not exactly legal to run an online gambling site.  so if you want to know about legality of betting with bitcoin then you have to check if online gambling in general is legal or not.

for example according to FBI it seems to be illegal to gamble online but there are exceptions:
https://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2007/june/gambling_060607
Quote
“You can go to Vegas. You can go to Atlantic City. You can go to a racetrack. You can go to those places and gamble legally. But don’t do it online. It’s against the law,” says Leslie Bryant, head of our Cyber Crime Fraud unit at FBI Headquarters.

there is a list of them here if you are interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_gambling#Legal_status
2465  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another slump, do you buy BTC at the bottom this time? on: February 03, 2018, 12:19:29 PM
the answer to the question "do you buy BTC at the bottom this time?" is yes, always. but the problem is also always about "where the hell is this bottom?"
for now nothing is clear if you ask me. all the analysis are good but you can never predict bitcoin with them. at the end of the day price moves more based on emotions than logic. and we are seeing a very good example of it right now. and when that's happening you can't figure out the bottoms and tops,...

On point right there. One can't really say he's buying at the bottom. Every hour gives us a new bottom lol. For all we know the bottom could be at 8k so if you have a buy order at 7 or 6k then you miss the chance to buy cheap btcs. On the other hand of it drops to even below 7k you'll be stuck. Probably best to buy in small amounts while closely monitoring the market and also being aware of crypto news

that's right. there is in fact a solution for this too. if you believe bitcoin will recover in a month or two for example, then what you can do to catch these bottoms is to place buy orders ahead of time on lower price levels. for example place 4 buy orders in $7000-$8000 range. and if you did that yesterday you could have had at least 2 of them filled and current price is $8900 so you could also make a quick profit too.

although that requires an initial prediction of near future recovery which is going to be the only hard part of it. in long term it will recovery surely but we don't know how many weeks or probably months that long term is.
2466  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price movement update on: February 03, 2018, 11:55:37 AM
BTC is going bullish in the next 30 mins, pay attention to the bottom bounce on the charts. It touched twice creating a support.
just because price recovered a little bit, it doesn't mean we are on a "bullish move". a bull market also has to last more than 30 minutes...
currently price is recovering. and this is very similar to the correction that you see after a big rise. the same way you expect price to come down after it went up huge, you should also expect a rise after a huge drop.

I personally wouldn't call any rise until it breaks $10k!

Quote
Most of the alts are performing as well, showing green movement.
more reason to believe this was a simple recovery. otherwise during a bitcoin bull market altcoins drop.

Quote
Do you think it will continue to break till it reach high price?
What are your speculation guys?
I am not  capable of speculating this anymore. I have some guesses though. I can see price staying around here with more drops, possibly small ones, for another month and some bull traps before the real bull market starts.
2467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Another Coin Take the Crown? on: February 03, 2018, 11:39:14 AM
in case you missed it all the altcoins drop hard when bitcoin has some drop like this! and as long as they are like this, so dependent on bitcoin's status I can not see anybody taking them seriously.

Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash, could lure investors away.

centralized coins can not even start to compete with bitcoin. not to mention ETH is not even a "coin".
these are better as short term investments when they are getting pumped.
2468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - 2 SCENARIOS on: February 03, 2018, 11:29:51 AM
that is simplifying the situation by a lot. it is not just 2 scenarios, there are a lot of different things that can happen. and remember that (for good or bad) the investors have proven they don't care much about bitcoin transaction fees since one of the biggest rises of bitcoin happened during one of the highest fee periods that bitcoin ever had! the fees were $100 and price kept going up from $8000 to $20000

also I would like to say that your #1 will probably never happen because if we assume people move on to altcoins because bitcoin fees were high, that means these altcoins which were not being used before and had nearly empty blocks will start to handle a lot of transactions and have their blocks fuller. and eventually you will see how they suck at scaling worse than bitcoin.
and we started this scenario with the assumption that "people move away from bitcoin because of fees" so it is s till true, and as fees of altcoins grow they should move away from them. but to where? back to bitcoin!
2469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how are you increasing your BTC portfolio? on: February 03, 2018, 11:20:09 AM
i have been trading and have some pretty decent returns in first week of january and huge losses later on.i think most of people here in same like me.i have been hodling my positions.
what are your ideas on increasing your btc portfolio?BTC

first decide if you want to start "trading" or just make some "investment" and if it is investment, is it for short term or long term.

many people don't  choose the trading or the short term trading because they are busy or don't like exchanges and how the exchanges scam their users a lot! so they choose long term investment. in which case you choose an investment that you think has a better future then you invest in it. for me it is bitcoin and I buy bitcoin with extra cash that I have and I don't care about short term ups and downs.

if it is trading then "holding my positions" is meaningless and a big mistake to make at times like this. you can dedicate a smaller part of your investment to trading too. it doesn't have to be one or the other. an when you are trading an see drops like this you should pull out so that you have money to put back in when price reached the bottom.
2470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: INDIA MISQUOTED ON CRYPTO BAN on: February 03, 2018, 11:13:20 AM
I don't know how many times the same wrong news is going to come out and people panic sell and cause a price drop before they stop and think for a moment when they hear a news like this saying some country banned bitcoin!

ignoring the FUD side of it, bitcoin (which the news says they are banning) is a decentralized cryptocurrency. if you think banning it can do anything to it then you shouldn't be using bitcoin anymore because you don't know the first thing about a censorship resistance currency!
2471  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Transaction failed on: February 02, 2018, 08:51:24 AM
I deposited some Bitcoins in a betting site but it could not get completed in 3 days even. I contacted the support and they told me that I had given less fee and thus it will never go through. Are they lying ? What is the solution to this ?

you either have to share your transaction ID here so we can see it and tell you if it is low or high or they are lying! or if you want to keep your privacy then you have to do it yourself.

go to a block explorer like blockchain.info and search for your transaction ID there. see the fee per byte field not the fee itself. if it was something like 1 satoshi/byte then you paid a ridiculously low fee. although it depends on when you made this transaction. a couple of days ago low fee transactions with 20-30 s/b were being confirmed fast.

for a list of the fees you can check this site https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/ compare your fee with these and see how long is the estimation for confirmation time.
2472  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fear not,bitcoin will rebounce on: February 02, 2018, 08:47:17 AM
Haha only idiots hold , smart people sell during peaks

you are only 50% correct, the second part is right.

holding something that you believe will appreciate over time (in long term) doesn't make you an idiot. and many are doing this because they do not trust exchanges to start trading bitcoin there and other means of selling are not good enough.
holding something that is useless and has an illusion instead of future (ie altcoins) makes you an idiot though.
2473  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Taking out initial investment as a means to reinvest? on: February 02, 2018, 08:24:41 AM
there are lots of different strategies when it comes to investment and managing your money. it is not really easy to say if one strategy is good and the other bad. not generally anyways. sometimes this strategy you described is a good one for certain coins under certain circumstances but not good always.

I usually use this strategy if I want to get the money out for good. meaning if I see the risks of investing in some coin is high so I cash out the initial investment and keep the profit and then continue working with that. and never invest that initial amount ($100 in this case) back in it. and it is a viable strategy!

but in some cases for example when investing in bitcoin I invest the profit back in. in other words I keep the profit in bitcoin not in fiat. for example I buy 0.01BTC price goes up and I expect a correction, I sell and buy back in the dip with the money I got and receive 0.013BTC

2475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin stay? What should we do... on: February 02, 2018, 07:55:15 AM
Those who invested at $17000 levels must be in lot of tension currently. But if they can wait for 6 months or so, the prices will again reach $20000 levels.

whenever you make an investment you have to think ahead and think about what you want out of your investment and what to do in case something different happened.

in case of buying at $17k if they bought just because they were hyped up then surely they held and now they are panic selling which caused this big dip.
but those who bought at $17k with educated speculation knew what they were getting into and be sure that they also knew what to do in case of a drop so they are not in any tension right now.
2476  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin and Altcoins are in Correction! on: February 02, 2018, 07:50:06 AM
I disagree mainly because you used the word altcoin Smiley

altcoins are pump and dumps and what they are in is a dump not a correction. and as you can see there are still altcoins that are getting pumped. for example DigixDao got pumped huge today for no reason so you can't speak generally.

as for bitcoin it is not a correction anymore. it is a big dump probably because of panic. the correction ended weeks ago above $10k and as we all witnessed the support level at $10k was huge.
2477  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why China and SK are doing everything right on: February 01, 2018, 09:52:34 AM
when they issue warnings about not going crazy with investing in cryptocurrencies, that is perfectly normal. I think almost all the countries in the world has already issued a warning like that. and that is quite necessary and it doesn't mean they are against bitcoin when they warn people!

when they regulate exchanges and close those that fail to do it or have been laundering money, this should not be confused with banning bitcoin. and closing exchanges in some cases is perfectly natural.
even banning ICOs is perfectly understandable since they are not legal way of raising money and there is no product, no company,... to deserve this money raised.

but when they ban bitcoin (which happens to be in 3 or 4 countries and China and Korea and Russia are not one of them despite what the news keeps saying) things are very different. it is not normal and it has nothing to do with that warning I talked about. it is the panic that the corrupted governments have regarding their loss of control to fuck up the economy and fill their own pockets.

Do you mean Venezuela here? Which are these 3-4 countries you speak of? Their governments must be downright incompetent, and Bitcoin may be the last straw to break the proverbial camel's back there. People in these countries don't want to have anything to do with them, so they abandon national currencies in favor of crypto and major fiat currencies such as the US dollar like it happened in Zimbabwe a few years ago.

you can see the full list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory
I had Bangladesh, Bolivia, and Zimbabwe in mind. and despite bitcoin not being illegal in India, there are lots of money issues there and they are tightening their grip around bitcoin but people are investing more and more in it as they make it tighter!!!
2478  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker on: February 01, 2018, 09:22:32 AM
I have never been able to get into playing poker online! it is just not the same as playing it face to face around a table. it doesn't do it for me. I believe the main thing about poker is actually playing it face to face to try and read your opponent and you can not do that when playing it online.
besides that you can never trust the system when you are playing online, there is no probably fair thing for poker anymore. in face to face you physically protect your cards but when online you can never tell if the opponent is real or not or if they can see your cards by cheating!
2479  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: With which coin would you like to wager in a casino? on: February 01, 2018, 09:13:14 AM
at some point I was betting a lot with Dogecoin because of a couple of reasons. mainly because it is super cheap, fast and useless. so you can just throw a lot of it away without it costing you much! and since you sometimes can bet smaller units of it (like 0.0001) it makes it easier to bet with a lower cost.
also there were a lot of faucets to easily claim some Doge quickly and get it in your gambling site address to play with them. I don't know if it is true still, since I no longer do it due to being busy.
2480  Economy / Speculation / Re: Descending triangle or symmetric triangle? on: February 01, 2018, 08:54:11 AM
so far it seems like someone is dumping to keep the price down. it creeps up slowly with natural buys over a longer time then it is dumped within 1 hour below $10k again!

why? I have no idea! maybe some whales wanting to accumulate more or push the price lower to buy cheaper coins. maybe some altcoin pumper whales who want to see the money migrate to altcoins they are pumping, and if you look at the news this seems plausible they way they say blank coin is rising while bitcoin is dropping! Wink
