a science fiction writer (larry niven) stated that time travel should be impossible.
the reasoning (which is kinda similar to what lelou posted) is there are two possible time line types :
1. a timeline type where time travel exists or will exist
2. a timeline type where time travel does not exist at all.
in the 1st type of timeline its possible to change the past. so, sooner or later, someone will alter the past so that no one invents or can use a time machine in that timeline. this means that, eventually, timeline type 1 always will become timeline type 2. therefore the timeline where time travel doesnt exist is the timeline that stays, and is the current timeline where time travel is impossible.

also you need merit points that can be earned by helping others or creating interesting topics.
That's how it should work but in reality it doesn't... at least for now while the merit-system is relatively new. [...] I don't really care about merit but writing those guides was time-consuming and the return was 1 merit... Whatever... Hopefully there were still some people reading it at least. i gave you a merit on one of your guides. yeah it can be a drag when you put time and effort into a guide or post on a very specific subject that may not attract a large number of readers, and thus get overlooked by readers that have merits to send. but as merit sources that tend to hang in particular forums are added hopefully this should even out over time as smerits are spread out to people in those sections of the forum. then again hopefully people dont just try to write only "merit worthy" posts and then eagerly await for merits roll in. not every great post will receive merit. as of this point ive seen lots of posts i think are worthy of merits that have not had any. for me "merit worthy" is a constantly evolving target: kinda depends on how helpful to my particular interests it was, how many smerits i have at the time, my mood, rank of the poster, how much effort i think the poster made, phase of the moon, etc. standards vary wildly, so trying to constantly write to a particular standard hoping to get merits is gonna be a rough ride. |

I believe he utterly destroyed that property.
He blew the fuses with mining equipment, burned holes in carpeting, ruined a freshwater pool with chlorine and other stupid Homero tricks.
And that's just off the top of my head, lol.
it was a saltwater pool he wrecked with chlorine iirc. i read through the damage, there was a document floating around the thread some time back. wrecked it by rewiring stuff and punching holes for cameras, painting stuff, wrecked some floors etc. what an idiot. |

does anybody use dual atx power supplies with this board? I believe with a regular riser build you want to avoid having a gpu powered by one psu and its riser powered by another. It looks as though this would be unavoidable with is board, 1 psu would power the board(and its pcie slots) and some gpus while the 2nd psu would be powering the rest of the gpus that were connected to the 1st psus powered pcie slots. would this not be an issue on this board or am I over thinking this?
the rig I would be transferring over uses 2 evga 850 G2's, 4 pcie each that I use for cards now and molex for my risers in current build... would I be able to use molex to 6pin adapters to power the board?
i dont have the octominer board but i run two evga psus with my riserless onda b250 d8p, a mining board with similar layout. all mobo connectors are one one psu, plus several cards. the other psu is powering only cards. i use an add2psu to control the 2nd psu. not sure about adapters, my psu dedicated to the mobo had enough native connectors to run everything without them. but if using molex (rated 75 watts) to 6 pin (rated 150 watts), i would use a 2x molex to single 6 pin type adapter. use no more than one 6 pin on a 2x molex adapter per psu string. |

On the other hand, I think that it would NOT be very wise to buy a Lambo unless you have at least 100BTC (so if you have at least 100BTC, then you would be spending less than 20% of your bitcoin holdings on a Lambo). On the other hand (I think that is enough hands for now), if you think that you are going to die soon (within the next year or two), then who cares, you need to have funzies while you are still living... and spend your bitcoins and buy the depreciating Lambo - even if you only have 20 BTC-ish or even less. on the gripping hand you just estimate how long you figure you have left. say you figure 30 years. a lambo plus enough money for a lavish lifestyle for 15 years is 1/2 your stack. will the value of the btc you still have left at that point (due to btc price increase in 15 years) be enough for another 15 or 20 years beyond that? if you dont spend it faster than your remaining stacks value increases.. TOYS!!! of course if the price tanks.. well theres always organ donations or something. always have a Plan B. |

What's the longest time you have used an SSD for? I thought they were supposed to wear out faster than HDDs.
I'm pushing 5 years on my oldest one, and it has been flawless. Pretty sure I've never had a HDD last that long, or even close. My newest NVMe Pro is ridiculously fast. Friends don't let friends HDD  heh yeah i have an intel X25M G2 80 gig from 2009 thats still running in a notebook. 8 years, heh. beat the snots of it but it just will not die. i probably have a dozen+ ssds spread around my boxen, no failures yet. all OSs/data/games on ssd; spinners are for bulk storage (media) and backup (raid 5, then to offline). |

If a guitar player is immature, overplaying is sometimes just a lack of experience. If the player is insecure (no matter their age, especially if there are other good players present) sometimes they overplay as if it's a pissing match, and showing off. A jam, with a rotating cast of many is bad for encouraging this.
A gigging band should be tight, know exactly what is coming up next. No extra times around for an extra solo unless it is really happening, and the crowd is reacting accordingly Strong band leadership and rehearsal makes this happen. In a recording session, the producer is king.
One of the best guitar players I have ever seen has traveled the country several times gigging. He used to be in a band with Sheryl Crowe before she hit ("she wasn't that good, at the time", he says). Now he is a painter with a mortgage, wife and kids. He has a room of amps, another room of guitars. He says it is his 401k, but he loves them too much to sell any. He is a white guy, plays in an all-black soul band (and in several other bands), and in the soul band, he is magnificent. He plays a lot of our jams, and he is overplaying, arrogant, and way too loud on stage. The soul band has strong leaderhip, and he keeps it in line. In the jam, there is lax leadership. He is trying to be the biggest fish in the pond.
Music isn't a competition. It's all about cooperation. Any real musician's ears are far more important than his hands. sometimes, less is more. hate it when guitarists compete with each other. there needs to be definition between instruments and notes and it sucks when you cant tell the guitars apart, especially from a mixing point of view for live sound reinforcement and recording. me i just mess with bass and drums for a hobby. its fun to feel what you play. good way to keep wilderbeasts away from your house too. |

Forgot to switch off updates on one of my Windows machines and it downloaded some MS crap and broke my mining config.
I run DDU and installed latest Radeon drivers + run atikmdagpatcher but after reboot I'm getting only 16-17 MH/s on rx470 4GB.
I used to get between 26 and 29 MH/s.
Whats wrong? Also afterburner is not working anymore.
Mind that I flashed all 6 cards so theoretically I shouldn't need any afterburner tweaking. It seems almost as if the DAG issue is back for me.

Just checked in Radeon Settings, all cards are running on their preconfigured settings (1900 memory, 1090 GPU). Why am I getting only 16 MH/s???

DSTM's zm crashes more often than EWBF's with higher OC settings. With EWBF I can go with +100/+500 for a stable mining, but DSTM crashes after a few hours.
That is why you should stay with EWBF, at least for now. Many people complain about DSTM stability. And while it offers 2-8% increase in hashrate (depending on the cards) and a few W per card less power consumption, after subtracting 2% fee and constant crashes (you lose time on restarts) it appears to be less profitable than EWBF (at least for me). Been using it for 3 months straight and NOT ONE single crash. Get off Winblows and use a real OS for server purposes. been using dstm since 0.6 on win 10. no crashes. just keep sane clocks and power limits. its actually been more stable than ewbf with the same clocks/power limits. there is much more to a stable rig than the choice miner software.. |

Note: As the OP of this thread and the guy who has been supporting these things for years I am always concerned about changing the contents of posts. That can affect the accuracy of information which is why I leave all my research and notes intact.
If that data can be changed arbitrarially then I need to rethink using this as a source of record. Hm. Maybe we need a forum that is secured by some sort of chain of transactions, where each post is written on a sort of a chain of blocks and can't be modified after a certain point, by anyone. That would allow for a high degree of repudibility about the source of the information.
Any idea what we could use? I'd say some sort of block chain, maybe we can secure it with all these Titans lying around.
(And such begins another altcoin. Which is ok since this is in the altcoin section)
maybe something like copy the text of each post to pastebin, then post that link at the bottom of each post here. maybe sign it with pgp for good measure. dunno how long stuff stays on pastebin, never used it. or rent a web server and copy each post to that, again with a link and verified via pgp. |

ive not been effected by this.
when i set coinbase up several years ago i linked it to a new bank account dedicated ONLY to coinbase, just in case a hacker got in the damage would be limited. also in case coinbase went hog wild, which i never thought would happen but hey, lookee here..it did.
no way would i link my day to day bank accounts to an exchange. i keep very little fiat in the account and same with coinbase.. i transfer fiat in or out to buy or sell, then move that stuff out pronto.
oh, and no cards are linked to coinbase either.

love my onda b250 d8p v1. will never build a riser rig again.
some of those riserless boards have better slot spacing than others, the d8p v1 is very good with 2.5 spacing. i dunno how well a 2.0 spacing board will do cooling wise.
but the d8p with its 2.5 spacing will not fit in a server case whereas a board with 2.0 spacing would.
one thing i will always want in a riserless board is a socket for the cpu rather than a built in. just personal preference.
