3381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [LAUNCHED] Bitcoincleanup.com: a website to stop Greenpeace's bitcoin FUD. on: September 26, 2022, 07:35:21 AM
In addition to rallying businesses and celebrities, etc that support Bitcoin, I'd also look up academics and scientists, even media, not necessarily to get them to throw their weight behind you (The Bitcoin Policy Institute already does that but they are not as objective as can be desired but can be a place to start) but to provide sound scientific research or push/advocate for such.

P.S GL! I'd offer to host indefinitely, but then I suppose you've got the small costs covered already (I've paid up for decades in advance).
3382  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: September 25, 2022, 09:28:18 PM
Gentlemen, we can keep complaining about Qatar (as some may remember also complaining about Brazil and Russia) and just get on with it eventually. Or we can get on with it as we did all the others. Or boycott it altogether, for once?

Right.

Just read that Germany have agreed to pay each player 350,000 euros if they win the World Cup. That led me to wonder about prize money, and I wasn't surprised to learn that FIFA themselves will pay 62 million to the winner -- what did surprise me was that part of that actually goes to the players' clubs.

That's just prize money, mind you, not sponsorship and national FA bonuses.

Anyone got numbers on those? Don't suppose it's a lot to mega clubs but I imagine a smaller club with an international player might get a windfall... thinking of say Freiburg with Ritsu Doan (Japan) or Cremonese with Afena-Gyan (Ghana), who's sure to play every single game.

Just came in to say thanks for the no-deposit freebet I got on Friday -- appreciate it, even if nothing came out of it (required 5x wager only on slots would have been a tremendous effort, only wagered 1.3x before busting haha).

But four entire days of no responses on another cryptic message from Tornike?

3384  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UEFA Nations League 2020/2021 Discussion Thread on: September 25, 2022, 06:00:33 PM
I think the most interesting match tonight will be the derby between the Netherlands and Belgium... There is no fundamental difference in the winner, because both teams are at the top of the group with a difference of three points... But I would like Belgium to win... I like the way they play unlike the young Netherlands... Especially Belgium has a chance to get to the top of the group, even if it's minimal...

I've heard of creative uses of the word derby but I suppose neighbours can compete in the Benelux region as a derby. Belgian stars long helping their team to punch above their weight and I'd take them on as winners too, especially since the Dutch don't have Gini, VVD is out of sorts -- and yes, that still leaves plenty of room for other talents to shine, Dumfries especially has a weird way in internationals, while that Remko guy is peaking at the top of his ripe old age...

Nothing to lose for Belgium to try and overrun them and try get on Remko's case?

Nice bets, @slow death but yeah NL is a trap. No bets for me tonight though except a 14/1 acca on France, NL, Wales. Come on, Bale you idjit.
3385  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: September 25, 2022, 04:06:47 PM
Indeed, as above. My promo page only looks like I've just joined SB. A 10% extra casino boost for new players, and then a list of all the SB ambassadors. No biggie though, I'll just wait till World Cup and if I can't join the promos I'll nudge Wink

Also agree with VPN use, most of EU is legal and even recommended to use it anyway, and as long as bookies do enough to comply with licencing (esp with KYC and AML), I think it's fair to say if they Know Their Customer and they do not enable Money Laundering, they're fine. I travel a lot, for example, and absolutely need VPN to access 90% of my regular services.

I still have access to the sportbets special, but betting on Nations League feels like throwing money away because it never returns. I stopped betting on international games unless they were part of a competition like the AFCON, EURO, or World Cup. Portugal, Scotland, and Greece appear to be good bets, but the Spain-Switzerland game has a 1-1 draw written over.

The specials tabs are always there, I actually hit the first special I took (posted in NL pool thread) and had a clean sweep on the first round of games but yeah Spain, Norway and Greece reminded us why this is a nasty tourney to bet on heh.

Afcon was a great deal too, especially picking Senegal!
3386  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: September 25, 2022, 02:39:31 PM
Something I learnt only recently, the city I live in has been granted an extension by the country to continue using Russian gas. So nationally, the sanctions are on, but each city, apparently negotiates independent energy deals. And if they demonstrate that they've tried looking for new sources (via public bidding) and cannot find something suitable (not sure if this means only financially) then they're granted extensions to keep using Russian gas all the way into next year.

It's a problem for Europe, but the spillover will touch and has touched every country. My own home country's on the brink of inflation I've not seen in my generation... while making new 20-year lows against US dollar every day.
3387  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Name the biggest problem/reason why aren't there more folks coming on Web3? on: September 25, 2022, 01:36:53 PM
On ramp? When did Web3 need money? Think I've used wallets to connect and get stuff done many times without transacting a single token already.

Maybe the problem, as OP's post might clue in on, is that Web3's just one of those hype terms being bandied around to popularise some other cashgrab.
3388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin island in the Philippines? on: September 25, 2022, 12:22:12 PM
First thought when I saw this was: why would guy need to provide yet another wallet, probably inferior to anything else already out there? And then my second thought was: oh, but of course, it's business, the guy/company isn't really into Bitcoin, it's all marketing.

Sometimes I swear, I almost walk into traps when the simplest and most obvious answers are already out there haha.

But seriously: I probably need to look at Pouch first and see if it'd be as easy for me to use if I visited Boracay.
3389  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- 2022/23 | Group Stage on: September 25, 2022, 10:47:14 AM
I think we all deserve to see a final between PSG and City , right ? This will a true clash between the best team right now but you can never count Real Madrid out even if I doubt they can make it again this year so PSG vs City should be the one. Favorites ? Hard to chose one but I would like a surprise this year.

I think Man City going against PSG would be a one sided affair even with Messi in there.  If you want a real clash then going against the current UCL champions which is Real Madrid would be the best match up for Manchester City at the finals imho.  Wink  And remember, Real Madrid eliminated Guardiola's boys at the semis last year.  So they'll surely be raring to go if given the opportunity to play them again.  And the match being a finals match...?  Goose bumps.

Now this is the truth, and it goes back to what I've been saying about City: the all-conquering team with the deepest squad depth, the best points per game ration, best goals per game ratio... and creeping up on European experience. The bookies rate them favourites in every competition, for 4 years running. That's not for nothing.

So yes, City in the final, deserved, if they play as well, but I'd want to watch Real vs them any day in preference of PSG.

But that's all moot. Liverpool will be in the final again =p
3390  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is anyone buying right now because they think we are at or close to the bottom? on: September 25, 2022, 10:14:15 AM
@buwaytress, it is not so much a problem in the price, but a much bigger problem is that most people do not believe in Bitcoin in order to invest in the long term. I believe that the majority will still wait as close as possible to the halving, and as always, they will start investing on the wave of some new FOMO. If I were to ask people the question of choosing between 2 possible scenarios when it comes to investing in Bitcoin - the first would be to invest now, wait at least 2-3 years and then sell, and the second would be to wait until the bull run starts and then sell in the next 2-3 months.

It seems to me that the latter is the option that many would choose and I can't say that I don't understand that way of thinking, although long-term investing is always more profitable, at least when it comes to Bitcoin. Of course, this may be true for those who do not look at Bitcoin exclusively through the prism of profit, but also some kind of personal financial sovereignty.

Yeah, I'm beginning to notice that the real holders actually are very much older people OR people who got in extremely early and have just been selling to improve their lives, keeping as much as possible and reupping after ATHs. Your take also matches with what I believe to be true, and this is from personal circumstantial evidence but the newer investors are really just speculators in disguise I'd say. And their actual utility (using Bitcoin to pay for stuff, etc.) tends to correlate with that behaviour.
3391  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: September 25, 2022, 09:20:51 AM
Or is this time to double on the money on Marseille?
Well for me, Marseille and Lille were the teams that I thought were going to stand out the most in the French league, I thought they were going to face PSG, because a team like Marseille has everything it takes to be able to stop a team like PSG, my epseranzans changed in that direction, and it's not because I don't want PSG to stay in the league again, not at all, I just want a rival to come out that doesn't make it easy for them like it was last season, to That is very important to me, just as I think that for now these teams will hardly get out of where they are stuck, and PSG the only one that can give them a fight is any team from the UCL.

To be fair, the expectations on them are more or less the same every season. Even last season, everyone expected Lille to fall apart (and they actually did I guess, if you consider what they'd achieved the season before), it was a last-gasp effort and PSG had a hell of a blip of a season.

Monaco I think have been on a slow and arduous road to recovery but I think they're just suspect at the back now, but this season I do think Marseille (and Lens) are still unbeaten.

What are you talking about PSG not staying in the league? Ha.
3392  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gacha Game on: September 24, 2022, 07:11:49 PM
Not me but I know how it affects kids. Back in my day, game companies in Japan made RPG-styled cards (Dragonball characters, for example), that they'd then sell in packs or machines (insert a coin, turn the machine tomble, a random card comes out).

Now I know there are already collectibles like Panini and trading cards but these were different, on another RPG level. You'd buy packs of cards hoping to get a special edition "skin" for your character (literally, a skin of plastic holographic card atop another card)... or differently powered up versions of the same character just to gain an edge over opponents if you played these cards against them.

Definitely encouraged a lot of people my age then to spend lunch money and gamble with each other to buy more of the cards.

It even tempted me a few times too... and just like gamblers everyone had a theory of how to game the system. In casinos people are sure of a strategy, or some way to read the machine or algorithm. With these cards, we discussed how to turn machine knobs, how to rub the cards inside the packs to "Feel" for the special material. How to read the serial numbers on the packs etc.

Absolute gambling mentality.
3393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How mentally prepared are you? on: September 24, 2022, 06:01:42 PM
When I was a newbie back then, the second figure checks out though. I felt like "HODL" was just simply keep it held for a week or a month, but nah I was wrong. Now I am here, it does not really feel that much of a journey now as you described since it is just my side hobby to trade crypto. Not trying to be successful since I am to be successful "elsewhere" anyway.
These most certainly aren't universally accepted timeframes, but here's what I think: Long term is several halving events, medium term is either a little while after one halving or two, and finally the short term I see any time really that you can make a trade. So, holding to me is the former of the three.

Something I've talked about before too. When you think about bonds even or bank deposits, maturity after a year is considered very short term. Medium term is 3 to 5 years (which incidentally is roughly what a halving cycle is)... Long term, and this was in the generation before, would involve thinking of bottom limits of a decade. And it tallies in a weird way, even given how the economic cycle since the 70s is about a decade or so (judging from a crisis period standpoint).

Perhaps it makes sense that people used to investing literally a lifetime of savings or govt bonds are probably the ones actually holding. Not meaning to bash on snowflakes.
3394  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Sportsbet.io ⚽ Italian Serie A ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread 2022/2023 on: September 24, 2022, 04:14:43 PM
If he were to leave for England yet again, what team do you think would be his most probable destination ? I really don't know but would he be willing to take a side like Leicester City or West Ham, those are the teams that are looking likely to get rid of their coaches next, if their poor form should continue.

I would love to have him back in the EPL though, if not for anything at least because of those war of words with other managers and derby matches dramas, you've gotta miss those.

I can't read his mind anymore, I don't think he's picky now though. I think it's whether a club wants him or not now, he'll probably love the idea of getting another midtable team with no European history to go and win a cup or two, it's what he does best -- put himself and his club into a sense of siege mentality, backs to the wall, and go fight all the haters, win something.

I do miss him, for sure. Mellowed but still love to hear him.

I actually think that he is at his best when managing smaller club where he can park the bus and play counter attacking football. He also has a way of bringing out maximum from his players in first and second season. After that it is usually fall in performance or club owners not happy watching their team defend all the time. West ham would be perfect for him, if his ego would allow a move like that.

That music video and Mourinho have been an inspiration for many memes, been laughing on twitter all morning.

Yeah, he has a way of squeezing a player for more juice than anyone previously thought possible. Think the only failure to do so that sticks in my mind is Dele Alli... who only had a brief period of resurgence before just crapping himself and Mou.

Definitely wish I understood Italian and Spanish more -- bet the local media is full of treasures like this!

Don't think he was fumbling for a name on the penultimate day.

Used to do domain hunting/buying back when it was really cheap and easy to do (mid to late 90s). Can easily see how a "same registrar" could be used to buy all kinds of domains.

You get suggested all kinds of names, bundles, free domains even (yeah until at least mid 2000s domains were even free if you signed up for web hosting supported by GeoCities style ad placements all over the place), can't remember the name of it but I had dozens of sites just signed up for free using that service. A main site, then many others with similar names because well, I thought they were cool to have.
3396  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io UEFA Nations League Prediction Pool Discussion Thread on: September 24, 2022, 01:53:54 PM
England relegated, they deserve to be, really. I can smell all sorts of value bets against them there.

interesting tactics, did not thought it through, but it does look compeling
central Asian states that are now playing in European competition are a bit undervalued by bookies, and underestimated by general population

when Serbia loses to Azerbeijan, it is looked as catastrophe on that, and when we lose to Slovakia, it is ok, they play football as well
and Azerbeijan took some solid players in their squad, Kazakhstan as well, not sure about Georgia dough

Yes and will continue to be so, to the point you could almost play blindly (don't take my word for it) and just use H2H, form and odds value to pick winners haha. Physically, these teams are on par or perhaps even slightly better overall, when compared to some European leagues, at least to my observation.

Georgia's clubs have also won me quite a bit of money in UEFA comps, same as Armenia (and arguably Azerbaijan is just next door) -- they're robust, physical.

Who could have thought that Hungary with one round remaining already will have guaranteed themselves 1st place in group of death. On the other hand, it shows  attitude of some teams towards Nations League. I hope that @buwaytress  made some nice money backing Hungary Smiley.
It wasn't bad day for me. Spent my 1 mBTC freebet on Georgia win and also had Italy win. So, recovered after yesterday's loses.

The way the likes of Germany and England play? Guess plenty. Pointless backing that kind of huge underdog in the pool I only got 1 point from doing that haha.

Nah, unfortunately I didn't take anything on them, not even sure what the odds were. Already had a nice bet riding that hit with Estonia/Georgia wins, and didn't feel like ruining my night. Should have just gone with the flow huh?!

England played 5 games in this competition and did not score a single goal from open play. With players like Kane, Sterling, Rashford, Sancho, Foden and who knows who I am forgetting here I would get rid of Southgate asap. That is not bad luck that is criminal performance.

And then you lose both games against Hungary and to make it even worse you lose 4:0 at home, at Wembly. How do you think opponents feel after coming to Wembly now? Well I guess they are all thinking, if Hungary can score 4 against this team we can do at least double Smiley Sort of like playing against Leicester in PL, all the opposition attackers getting on the pitch with smile on their faces.

Couldn't agree more, this is criminal. Southgate got a loooot of goodwill for what he seemed to do (bring the English together after decades of infighting) and last big final, but time for a refresh methinks.

Guys don't forget to opt-in and and win some points for derby between Southampton and Arsenal.
You can win travel package with box seats, flight tickets, and accommodation!
Arsenal is in much better form now but anything can happen in derby matches like this

Definitely hope to get in on some of this action, I really don't see a way for Saints past Arsenal in this one though. Then again, international breaks affect teams differently, and it'll be interesting to see if the Gunners find a way to pick up from where they left off. Jesus better, anyway, as I'm keeping my faith in him in FPL!

Why are you hiding how much money you won?  Grin

Because I'm a shy guy and shrivel beneath the gaze of SB whales =D
3398  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is anyone buying right now because they think we are at or close to the bottom? on: September 24, 2022, 11:05:02 AM
Really, not sure why people who have been waiting for good buyins are afraid of now.

If you are in this for the next cycle, what is the worst that could happen even if we revisit 2020 lows of sub 4k? I buy now and I lose, temporarily up to 80% value over the mext couple of years running up to new ATH.

Best case scenario and we are near or at the bottom and then when do we panic fomo buy? 25k? 30k? But if we did not budge now sub 19k, why wouldn't we fear 25/30 as bull traps?

Still cannot understand why people stress if they really want and believe in Bitcoin for the long term...
3399  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UEFA Nations League 2020/2021 Discussion Thread on: September 24, 2022, 10:03:34 AM
So Italy winning and Germany is losing  Roll Eyes

Imagine not be qualified for the World cup and be able to beat one of the team candidate for the top 4. Roll Eyes

Heh. Yeah. Nations League. Where fantasies happen and nobody cares in a super friendly format. Probably better for England to play in B league actually and rack up the goals for confidence cause the past 5 NL games really cannot be good for the players confidence.

Afraid I should not knock them so much though, this contest has been more profitable than my entire regular league football season so far!

Man I love Szallai.
3400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chainalysis software puts the lie to the idea that Bitcoin guarantees anonymity. on: September 24, 2022, 08:52:12 AM
- Chainalysis is not just "another chain analysis" company. It's one of the oldest ones around, and they're building something of a name and wealth for themselves getting contracts with govt enforcement. They also shut down noise from an ex employee a few years back who went whistleblower, claiming their tech is laughably poor and unscientific.

- The idea that Bitcoin guarantees anonymity is misled, was never claimed, and disproven publicly from the days of Silk Road. Why do we need Chainalysis to tell us something they really didn't have a hand in helping educate about? Think it's really just Bloomberg readers who still think so.
