Here were some of the searches from the beginning looking for similarities.

This picture contains a familiar image from the VM with the 8 pointed flower/star in circle.

I was under the impression, not sure why, the VM had Tibetan numbers. :shrugs: That was the first place I began to look. Cheesy

342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Strange Network Manager on: May 22, 2012, 10:49:28 PM
I installed a new instance of Lubuntu. In Network Manager I edited the wired connection giving it a name and setting up the IP info. After I reboot, the name I gave Network Manager isn't present when trying to connect. Instead it states 'Auto Ethernet'. I checked 'Edit' and the name I gave it is present but Network Manager won't let me use it to connect.
What could be causing this?

I found this explanation rather interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpzLhmH0UYs
That is the video that got me so intrigued with the Voynich Manuscript.
I wanted to know if any of the letters are represented in other languages. I found they were, in Asia, from Tibet to Turkey to India, existing from within that triangle. I found Ancient Armenian to have most similarities, based on the work of C. G. Boeree.
http://webspace.ship.edu/cgboer/evolalpha.html

When that listed below is compared to 57v of the VM there are some very strong possibilities.

Various asian numbers

A Tibetan intercalary months calander with numbers.

Brahmi scripts through different periods comparison.
http://www.guide-to-symbols.com/_images_pub2/brahmi600w.png

Here is a more modern Tibetan calendar includes english.
http://www.tibettravel.cn/images/Tibet_Discovery/Tibetan_Calendar.jpg

Armenian scripts that have a very strong possibility for being in the VM.
http://www.glazman.org/specs/numberings_files/armenian.png

Three languages that have some logograms from the Voynich manuscript, Marathi, Gumurkhi, and Punjabi. Punjabi has the frequency pattern of the VM special character (Upward stroke, counter-clockwise circular, horizontal stroke, counter-clockwise circular, downward stroke), though not the style of the logograms in the VM. 344  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: May 22, 2012, 09:26:02 PM
my oppinion to the whole debate is simple: Last year i was part of the miningfarm developement project by xenland and we was able to mine some blocks. But then after i lost a major miner and the miningfarm project didnt come forward. Xenland chose to develop the cheaperinbitcoins project, so i pointed my own miners to BTCGuild. I observed problems there sometimes the PPS didnt count my shares even when i saw in my software had found a lot of them. This happend a few times so i decided to change to p2pool. Thats why i did setup a p2pool node. In the beginning it was quite different then pps but after a while i realized that it does not realy mather, cause i observed that the payout from p2pool is somedays even bether then pps and i have less trouble with mining and payout distribution. Allso the decentralization plays a major part for me.

Today i wouldt change back to pps. The developers from p2pool do a awesome job i realy love it! All you guys that come up with the calculations of what could be or what is not you realy seems to miss the point; instead of grumble - come up with own ideas how to improove the project !
Nobody will argue with you, except maybe for trolls, on the points that 1. P2pool is great software and 2. Forrest is underappreciated.

I have an idea, turning on spell checking will help to visualize cacographic representations. Cheesy

If you don't know how to program, I don't and not everybody does, you could at least learn the theory in this 30 hour lecture series:

345  Bitcoin / Mining support / ATI Stream SDK v2.1 on: May 22, 2012, 09:02:06 PM
Having some trouble getting v2.1 working. I followed Kano's guide, for v2.4, to install v2.1. I don't know if this is a bad idea. Reading through some other threads it appears v2.1 requires a different process. Could someone explain the install process for v2.1?

What I did:
Code:
cd /opt
tar -xvzf /home/user/ati-stream-sdk-v2.1-lnx64.tgz
cd ati-stream-sdk-v2.1-lnx64.tgz
cp -av lib/x86_64/* /usr/lib
rsync -avl include/CL/ /usr/include/CL/
tar -xvzf icd-registration.tgz
rsync -avl etc/OpenCL/ /etc/Open/CL/
ldconfig

To correct my difficulty I then did:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7514.0

Code:
sudo sh -c 'echo "/opt/ati-stream-sdk-v2.1-lnx64/lib/x86_64/" >> /etc/ld.so.conf.d/local.conf'
This got it to work, but not 100%. To test, I installed oclvanitygen which runs on one core, claiming BFI_INT failed. When I try to run additional cores it exits on error.
Code:
Build log:
sh: /bin/x86_64/clc: not found

You can add chart analysis in Analysis->Studies window.

Yes I see, 'F6':

I chose 'Volume-colored based on Volume' Add>> <APPLY>
Then I chose Settings (along the right side) > width 3 > <OK> > <APPLY> > <OK>

Cool.

Do I have to start a fresh terminal for each exchange I want to monitor?

Code:
$ wine sierrachartfeed-0.5.exe -s cryptoxUSD
Code:
$ wine sierrachartfeed-0.5.exe -s mtgoxUSD

This didn't work:
Code:
$ wine sierrachartfeed-0.5.exe -s mtgoxUSD cryptoxUSD
347  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: CGminer help 2.4.1 Freeze after 1 week ! on: May 22, 2012, 08:34:01 AM
Freezing could be a power issue, an overclocking issue, a motherboard issue.
As for the codes, you should ask in the cgminer thread if someone more knowledgable doesn't reply.
Have you rebooted the system to start fresh?

Moxie Marlinspike: Convergence is still being developed, although the core
feature set is pretty stable now.
Me: Should anyone run a notary?
Moxie Marlinspike: Anyone can run a notary, and anyone is free to use that notary if they trust the organization.
Me: Who would be your ideal candidate for running a notary?
Moxie Marlinspike: Ideally, organizations that can dedicate the resources to running HA notaries are preferred.
349  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed GCN RPC linux/windows/osx 2.4.1 on: May 22, 2012, 06:58:42 AM
I run cgminer with -I 2 parameter, but this parameter is ignored and used intensity in config (since v2.3.4).
How can I override intensity for new versions of cgminer without changing config file?

You have to move the config file out of the .cgminer directory, if your using linux, or change it in the config file.
Alternatively, you can try adjusting it while it is running by choosing 'G' then 'C' or 'S' for change settings, then 'I' for Intensity, then enter the number for your desired Intensity and press enter. Hit any key to return to polling screen.

OK, so I get this error:
Code:
./cgminer: error while loading shared libraries: libOpenCL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I'm trying out SDK 2.1 so I search this thread and find:

Quote from: DeathAndTaxes
Do a "find / -name libOpenCL.so.1"

then copying the file to cgminer's directory would probably the easiest...

Change to cgminers directory then do a "cp /path/to/file/libOpenCL.so.1 ." and start cgminer with ./cgminer

Code:
$ find / -name libOpenCL.so.1
$
Huh  Apparently it doesn't exist.

So I files > /opt/lib64/x86_64 to find libOpenCL.so

Are they the same file? Why is it named -.1?
What do I do to correct the issue so cgminer will churn?

Edit: Neglected to mention, in case it's important, I unpacked v2.1 as described in Kano's toot for v2.4.

P.S. AMD makes you jump through hoops now to get the older SDK's.

If he really wanna distribute the coins in the robin hood fashion he'd donate to p2pool.
This way the coins would be evenly and most untraceable distributed and it would make p2pool the largest pool.

  • The government does have the authority to investigate and prosecute these cases

Yeah? Where did they get this authority from? Did we agree to this? Did we give our consent?
The State's authority comes from God, who is the source of all authority and life. God's rights are unlimited, and don't require your consent.
For those who believe not in God, lawlessness already exists.

Bitcoins do have value which can be determined just as assuredly as any painting or antique. Stealing something that can be shown to have value makes the thief liable to prosecution and responsible to the party to repay what was stolen, if proven to be the thief.
If I break into a house and steal some jewelry which I later pawn, the police, checking the pawn shops, will collect the stolen property and not provide any compensation to the pawn shop. The pawn shop must get in line to collect if the thief is ever caught. The pawn shop owner isn't charge with any crime related to the theft.
352  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Ati HD 7970 + 5850 on: May 21, 2012, 09:50:22 PM
I have the same cards in a Win7 rig.  No issues.

Which Catalyst?
Which SDK?
Are you running more than one of each with multiple instances of cgminer?
Ex., optimal 7970 CC/SDK/cgminer; optimal 5850 CC/SDK/cgminer.

What are the hashes for the 7970 and 5850 that are running on the same motherboard?

What are the PSU specs; How many rails; what brand; how old is the PSU?
If it is sold on Newegg provide a link.
What motherboard will they be run on?
Do you have a wattage meter like, Kill-A-Watt brand?

In the mean time, here are some helpful articles.

The 5850 has a maximum board power of 151W to 179W, depending on model.

Energy consumption

We'll now show you some tests we have done on overall power consumption of the PC. Looking at it from a performance versus wattage point of view, the power consumption is pretty good for a product of this caliber, according to ATI the 5850 has a TDP of 151 Watts.

....

Keep that in mind. Our normal system power consumption is much higher than your average system.

System in IDLE = 168 Watts
System with GPU in FULL Stress = 348 Watts
    (5850 consumption = 180 Watts)

Recommended Power Supply

So here's my power supply recommendation:

Radeon HD 5850

The card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit at minimum if you use it in a high-end system. That power supply needs to have (in total accumulated) at least 40 Amps available on the +12 volts rails.

Radeon HD 5850 CrossfireX

A second card requires you to add another 170 Watts. You need a 650+ Watt power supply unit if you use it in a high-end system. That power supply needs to have (in total accumulated) at least 55~60 Amps available on the +12 volts rails.

For each card that you add, add another 200 Watts as a safety margin.
http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5850-review-crossfire/9

Quote
Single GPU 5850

System in IDLE = 157 Watts
System with GPU in FULL Stress = 334 Watts
Difference (GPU load) = 184 Watt (official reference TDP = 170W)
http://www.guru3d.com/article/his-radeon-5850-icooler-v-turbo-review/6

Both models did draw 180 Watts+, but in mining power consumption can be less depending on how you clock your cards so working with a wattage meter will provide much better info.

The cracker who stole 18kBTC from Bitcoinica was on IRC this morning giving them away. A number of us posted our addresses with the intent of returning the stolen coins to Bitcoinica. I have setup an address that will be handed over to Bitcoinica (as a wallet.dat file) at some point when they have figured out where I should send it. Therefore, if you have been sent any stolen coins and wish to return them, please forward them on to 1BPKHoL1sAVnfzxnH38RfXYYcHrEcniUKW (see balance).
Did you use Vanitygen to create the address? How long did it take you to create that 10 character address?

None of the addresses show any hint of 18K BTC. Maybe something indirectly, I'll have to check the original theft thread.

Funny logic. To not pay with PayPal you must click "Pay with Paypal" to be able to access "Don't have a Paypal account", which when clicked doesn't give you any option at all, but takes you to Paypal.

rjk already suggested Bit-Pay so I won't.
