3441  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you cover your paperwallet? on: December 04, 2020, 01:22:26 AM
You should avoid lamination as it could be counterproductive and result in speeding up the degradation process.
The best and safest way to save a wallet seed or a private key is to engrave it on a metal plate. It might be a bit more expensive, though.
If using papers is your only option then make few copies and store them in different places and check them regularely.

Store your bitcoin seed / private key safely (Water, Fire, Shock-proof)

Lamination is better than write key down on paper sheet but you are totally right that lamination is expensive and it does not permanently exist. Metal plates are better than lamination but the cost is expensive too and they even can not 100% protect your seed or keys. Who can find anything can 100% survive through any kind of disaster or catastrophe.

Paper, lamination, metal plates, USB, harddrive, etc, any tool is used store your private key/ seed backups need to be put into another safe protective device such as Vaults. Vaults in turn need to be placed in as safest locations as possible.

Double or tripple protections for your private keys/ seeds.
3442  Other / Meta / Re: Forum account: security, privacy, and recovery on: December 01, 2020, 05:35:25 AM
No sensitive information should be displayed or be obtainable by anyone visiting your profile link. Skype or emails connected to your real name. Even a website link that leads to your personal website where you might have posted about yourself, where you live, work, or a photograph of yourself, your house, etc. Links to social media can obviously also be abused if someone targets you.
It is. I don't catch people thoughts that how they thought and made decisions to leave all information in one place. Here, on profile page. Facebook, with their real names, phone numbers, locations, and more things.

Some people leave their bitcoin address on their profile page or personal text and I won't surprise that they reuse that address many times.

It's only a matter of time, I see you are very active on the forums. Your Merit earning progress is also very fast. Many of the treads you make are useful to the forum and I think they are good and you should move on. Your contribution to the forum will change the views of the new member, if he is useful in the forum then he will get awards from other members.
My pleasure to contribute good posts here and much thanks for your motivational post.

Indeed my speed to earn merit is not fast compares to some beasts but I satisfy with what I achieved. My threads were created as a learning resources for myself and then help community members. When I decide to make a thread, I have to spend decent time to search, read, assess documents and combine them with my limited ability to make as a best thread as I can. First for my learning then for others.

My small initiatives like a drop in the ocean.  Smiley

3445  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Authentication: Types, Risks/ Attacks, Advice on: November 30, 2020, 06:11:11 AM
Hi, could you add to OP this resource https://twofactorauth.org/  that listed plenty of entities (including  cryptocurrency) which implemented 2FA  and separated them through out realms like Banking, Betting, Finance, Email etc, 32 titles in all. Those realms can  be even filtered by Regions. It can be run nay locally https://github.com/2factorauth/twofactorauth
It is a new website and helpful for authentication on our devices. I did not know it if you don't tell me.

For newbies who use exchanges, merchants, marketplaces, set up your 2-factor authenticators is important to protect your account and money, prevent potential hacks. SMS code should not be used after your account registration, email verification and if you decide to activate 2FA for your account. Choose good 2FA app and backup the code for recovery.

It is worth taking a look at blockstream privacy analysis at your addresses to see what you are doing wrong

your post contain a very rich collection of useful topic from the forum, although i have come across some of those thread, i have not read many of those threads. i will be sure to digest those resources for myself at my convenience.
You should choose some from my initiatives and read them. I strongly warn you pay your time to read the topic on Security and Privacy that are most vital things you need to care about when you join crypto.

I see you have a great initiative to continue helping people by sharing some useful information for forum users. Your contribution is worthy of appreciation and I am sure that users like you will never be deterred from moving up the ranking. This is not a compliment to you, and it is an acknowledgment.
Thank you ShowOff, your words are more than compliments for me and I will keep it in minds to move onward with more contributions.

Frankly, if you can maintain consistency and continue to contribute, in the near future you will get a hero rank. I believe it's not about rank, useful contribution are one thing you should do without being forced in any way.
I do it since my first post and will do the same after I become a Hero member.

Oc tradism has been an inspiration to me, ever since I came across his helpful post, a definition of hard work and passion for the forum by the way he smack up correction, some newbie may think it harsh but some and many learned, your hard work is evidence by this compiled list and many replies.
I did not think I would get many support from community with my topics and posts. I appreciated all your help, your time to correct me when I post something is inaccurate and your time to share my topics. Thanks.
3449  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the biggest issue for beginners ? on: November 29, 2020, 09:58:13 AM
Their biggest issue is don't manage their capital and risk good enough. The market naturally gives you early profit and in crypto beginners can get 40%, 60% after few days or few weeks. Believe me, most of beginners join the market when it is heated and news are everywhere so they get easy profits at beginnings.

Later on, they feel they are genius and let their profit goes away, their capital is eaten up and finally their orders are liquidated.
3450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What privacy tools are there besides tumblers, coinjoins, and privacy coins? on: November 29, 2020, 09:11:25 AM
Are there any other tools or techniques one should have in entire privacy toolkit knowledge other than the three I mentioned?
Privacy is not protected if you don't make your transactions as private as possible. It relates to the steps you do to make your inputs and your outputs.

Not all tumblers or mixers can 100% protect your privacy and there are many tumblers or mixers were shut down by governments because their operations, transactions are traceable by governments.

Coin join transactions have anonymity set and the bigger the set is the better privacy you can get but you would never remix or recombine your mixed coins from Coin Join.

Privacy coins: The best one is Monero and for the rest self-claimed privacy coins, you would be careful if you believe in their developers' promises on privacy.

3451  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What your aim in bitcointalk ? on: November 29, 2020, 12:19:06 AM
I never knew about bitcointalk forum until I was introduced to it by my friend ,I already knew about bitcoin but not the forum ,I loved every idea of crypto and block chain so I took time to think about before joining this forum,
That why every single time I am kick out I try to come back and try to adhere to instructions.
I want to know more about crypto in general, I want to be enlighten and not to leech off people here.i might have not been enlighten about the forum well but am still learning on how it's work ....
What you did and what you said are different. You said you want to know about bitcoin, crypto but what you are doing on the forum to learn about bitcoin, crypto? Does joining bounty help you learn bitcoin and crypto?

When you join the forum, this one or any forum, read rules and don't break it. It is not wise to skip rules and say "hey, I did not read rules so I am free to break them".

Please lock the topic as your last respect on forum rule.
3452  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: OcTradism Initiatives on: November 28, 2020, 02:52:04 PM
This is by far one of the most useful topic on the beginners and help board and I have referred it in my posts a couple of times to emphasize on it a bit but then, it's really encouraging to have compilations that really helps such as these (Done by OcTradism). The technic in compiling these topics are relatively not difficult but time consuming and seeing the result only tells how much OP puts in his whole to effect the forum in the best possible way and this is what coming up users of the forum must do. To put ourselves in a write up to make it come alive to the forum and make the most impact.

Thank you. I have Officially visit websites & download apps, not fake ones.. I see people reported fake apps every week and don't know why Google easily let those fake apps acceptance to get listed.

It is reminding me the problem with namecheap. They accept any register with phishing domain (homographs). Google and Namecheap should have more strictly review and listing processes.

Remember official websites, save domain links, bookmark them to get wallets, upgrades and never search with Google or Google Play.

What is your aim in bitcointalk?

You participated few days back and created some topics to guide other newbies and gave your advice with poem, topics and posts. Why did you not spend your time to read topics and posts on the forum to increase your knowledge in crypto, forum.

You applied in my topic and I can say you are not accepted.

Any of your posts and topics don't show you are good members if you don't have knowledge about the forum and crypto.
3454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin founder on: November 28, 2020, 08:44:51 AM
The Youtube video from @aantonop Bitcoin Q&A: Why Satoshi's Identity Doesn't Matter. Bitcoin is decentralized and the anonymity of bitcoin creator (is known as Satoshi Nakamoto) is the contributor to its success. There are many theories that bitcoin was created by a person, a company or a government.

At the end, there is no single entity can control bitcoin and manipulate from code to price.
3455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins price pump influence bitcoin price Negatively ? on: November 28, 2020, 07:14:00 AM
The longer time of accumulation along with falling price, when times is on and the pressure is taken off, price will rise exponentially. It is a rule of the market. Unfortunately, people don't cut loss will also don't have enough patience and confidence to hold their coin till the day recovery occurs. They hesitate to cut loss but when price is at bottom, they lose their faith and give up.

About your question on the correlation between bitcoin and altcoin, I see there is a correlation as a bond of capital flow. With same amount of capital on the market, if bitcoin rises, capital will be concentrated on bitcoin and altcoins might see drops in price. When bitcoin is stable, altcoins will have more capital inflow that helps them to increase in price.
3456  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin self-custody retirement wallet account on: November 28, 2020, 12:29:13 AM
Do you meant about something like that? A company in Japan wants to start paying employees in Bitcoin. It is from GMO, a Japanese company, and the story is from 2017, 3 years ago.

It is not about retirement bitcoin but the idea of GMO can be applied, the additional 10% of salary (if bitcoin is chosen as a salary payment method) will be automatically sent to retirement account of employees. It can not be done for all employees and for the ones accept it, companies must teach them non-custodial wallets and practical steps to use, backup, recovery.

Quote
Beginning in 2018, GMO Internet Group will give employees the option to receive payments from 10,000 yen (about $88) to 100,000 yen (about $881). Employees will also get an additional 10% of the salary they choose to receive in bitcoin as an incentive.
3457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why make New Crypto Exchanges on: November 27, 2020, 02:30:36 AM
Exchanges are created and abandoned. Scammers use exchange to steal money from investors. Because of this, you have to be cautious with new exchanges and more cautious if they are very easily to accept listing new coins. Some shit exchanges are very easily to list new coins that are shit coins. No value coins and no value exchanges cooperate together to steal money from investors.

I lost my money on a scam exchange like that when I bought some shit Cryptonote coins and months later the team exited and shut down the exchange. No time frame to withdraw funds.
3458  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Watch out for Crypto Faucets! on: November 27, 2020, 01:53:57 AM
Never deposit any coins to faucets, never trust them, and don't expect to earn coins from faucets.
It is a classic scam: Deposit first and get something back.

They can abuse events like giveaways, promotions, faucets but please think twice that if it is giveway or faucet, you would get something free from the air, from the company runs the event. It is a process would be but if the company ask you to make deposit first to have a legit ticket to join giveway or faucet, it is scam.

Giveaway or faucet is the thing you can claim for free. Faucet: free claim (that can be restricted by minutes, hours, total claims everyday). Giveway: free but sometimes yo have to finish some tasks like answer questions, puzzles, etc.
3459  Other / Off-topic / Re: Depending on Google play store safety, is it really safe? on: November 27, 2020, 01:23:29 AM
The peer review or QA/ QC on Google Play is an questionable problem and no matter how the app submission is processed, the truth is you will get phishing app on Google Play if you always search for app on Google Play. It is expanded to any store (less or more phishing apps, it can depend on each store but your activities are the ones will protect you or expose you to phishing apps).

Officially visit websites & download apps, not fake ones. This guide can help newbies.

To be honest, I can not understand why people don't find apps on official sites. It is very simple, easy to do and safer.

In crypto, some big sites can be considered as very first destinations to search for projects' fundamental links (websites, github, explorers, market pairs, etc.). Start with coinmarketcap.com or coingecko.com and get official links. You can make double checks with Google search results.
3460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Confused with wallet addresses on: November 26, 2020, 06:48:46 AM
Private key and mnemonic seed are different visual display for your bitcoin private key.

Private key is a long string of characters but mnemonic seeds are 12 or 24 words but those words are to store your private key. They serve same purpose, store your private key.

Different BIP will create different mnemonic seed from same private key.
To import one private key from one wallet provider to another wallet provider, you need to have technical match from two wallets.

You can learn from https://iancoleman.io/bip39/
