3441  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC STATUS 5/29 on: May 31, 2013, 03:18:28 PM

I think the picture speaks for itself, and I apologize for the quality... just took a quick snap while we were working. However, you can see that our power usage is under 5w/GH/s.

That is choice. They are excited about missing their targeted power spec by only 500%. WTG!
3442  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: May 29, 2013, 06:19:32 AM
After I switched to a corsair GS800, cgminer never restarted Smiley

It seems that the original power supply (Antec Earthwatt 650) is a bit inadequate

Perhaps, but mine is holding up remarkably well. 300 MHz clock speed and current uptime has been 6 days..woohoo! Smiley

I agree the EarthWatts 650 isn't enough. Mine just died. The Avalon is just too much for it.
3443  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon mining rig CLONES available for preoder (85+ GH/s), BATCH 1 SOLD OUT! on: May 29, 2013, 06:03:19 AM

UPDATE 27/05/2013: as requested from many users, we are showing the proof that we bought a batch of 10K ASIC chips from Avalon:

Nope, there's a typo. You meant bitmine.ch.

Yes, that is your wallet.
3444  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~1000Gh] [Private Pool] A few good miners needed on: May 29, 2013, 04:54:55 AM
No idle miner notifications at this time. We have actually started work on a separate analytics application for miners.

I will add it to the list of features yet to be done and will prioritize it with the team.

Thanks for adding idle notifications. It has been nice knowing when to reboot.
3445  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Openday on: May 28, 2013, 04:30:04 PM
I am pleased they have made at least one working Mars board already.

What makes you think it is working? All I've seen is pics of a PCBA with no pics of any actual mining going on.
3446  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 27, 2013, 07:44:21 PM
If anyones curious, BFL also canceled my order after sending a demand letter asking for answers. Frankly if a company is only willing to respond to people who complain by canceling their orders after holding their money for a year then they can't be considered to honest or reputable. I'm glad they gave me a refund and I hope they continue to fail. I urge anyone with a recent or not so recent order to get a refund. Their actions are unconscionable and anyone placing an order today won't see anything for a VERY long time.

It's the latest BFL scam. Cancelling orders that were sold at $149 so that they can sell them to another customer at $249.
3447  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 27, 2013, 12:31:46 AM
Additionially the wording on the site at the time of the order:

http://web.archive.org/web/20120628113158/http://www.butterflylabs.com/order-form-bitforce-sc-single/

Explicitly states: "currently scheduled for October"

This wording in so vague and implies that the date will and can change. .. there is little room to say that they promised to deliver the products sooner and the buyer was unaware that it wasn't a risk factor

They made sure to imply it would be extremely unlikely for the date to change. Read their own words:

http://www.butterflylabs.com/bitforce-sc-release-notes/

Quote
gift-ability in time for the holiday season ... our team is highly experienced ... we're currently ahead of our original timeline ... Honest Abe, we're scheduling shipments for October of 2012 ... we have the experience ... You can count on the SC.

Even as late as mid October, they were claiming they would ship in October.
3448  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 26, 2013, 08:48:06 PM

An example of a forward sale is a farmer agreeing to sell soybeans a year from now to ADM for $540 a ton. Suppose that when the soybeans are finally ready the market price for soybeans is $800 a ton. The farmer is still obligated to sell them to ADM for $540. The farmer cannot legally unilaterally void the contract then refund the $540 to ADM and turn around and sell his soybeans to someone else for $800.

However, this is precisely what BFL did. They agreed to a contract to sell a specified amount of future units for a specified price. The market price of the contract rose five-fold. BFL then canceled the contract without compensating Xian for the fair market value. Finally, they turned around and sold the merchandise that Xian had rights to for more money to someone else (again via forward sale, but for a higher price than Xian paid).

Pretty good analogy, but cars are even better.

Customer goes to a car dealership, picks the car he wants but it isn't in stock, so he's told it will be delivered in 2 months, and he pays the current price for the car in full at that point in time. 2 months pass, and the car he ordered is delivered to the dealership. The dealership sees that he can sell the same car to a new buyer for 67% more. So he calls up the original customer and says, sorry, I changed my mind, you can't have that car after all, because I'd rather sell it to someone else for more money. Here's your money back.
3449  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are BFL Jalapeņos worth it? on: May 26, 2013, 04:13:54 PM
How much did they pay then?

Early pre-orders paid about 25 btc. At today's difficulty, a Jalapeno will take over 120 days to break even, assuming no difficulty increases. But there will be lots of increases, so it's unlikely that an early pre-order will ever break even. So no, Jalapenos are not worth it.
3450  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [AVALON] - I got my ASIC Thread (Batch #2) on: May 26, 2013, 03:46:41 PM

A quick test showed that my silver unit consumed about the same amount of power as the black ones; no significant difference.  All units are running around 600W at 300MHz, Temp3 ~47.

That's a very nice improvement in power usage over batch #1.
3451  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [TO THEYMOS AND MODS] BFL scammer tag? on: May 26, 2013, 06:14:28 AM

The bet is another matter. I haven't looked into it yet.

Why not? There have been numerous threads detailing the lost bet.

I'm offering 1000 BTC on behalf of BFL regardless of what Tom does.

7 months later and still no donation. Why doesn't Inaba have a scammer tag?
3452  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 26, 2013, 01:34:21 AM
war . ..it's all the art of war. . .and your FUD

just Missing a timeline ...... is that what u are going with in regards to BFL ......lol cry lol

If you believe that you either are not informed on the long long history of this saga or are deluded !

He's new here, his account was created 3 weeks ago. So he's not aware of the missed October, and the missed November, and the missed December, and the missed January, and the missed February, and the missed March, and the missed April, and the missed May.
3453  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: predicting difficulty on: May 26, 2013, 01:04:05 AM
That's why it makes far more sense to eliminate the fiat exchange rates and calculate profits based solely on bitcoins spent to purchase the equiment and bitcoins generated by the equipment. A Jalapenos pre-order purchased for 25 btc needs to generate 25 btc to break even.

That's if you have free electricity. Otherwise you need to add a fiat part.

It will be quite a few months from now before difficulty rises enough to make electricity costs a significant portion of the profit equation. So I'll rephrase my point...

A Jalapenos pre-order purchased for 25 btc needs to generate more than 25 btc to break even.
3454  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Low Watt Miners -GH/BTC -ROI with difficulty [Updated May 25] on: May 26, 2013, 12:48:27 AM

Avalon is shipping chips, which will have a big effect on the list once they start coming in.  The 63GH machine, however, isn't being shipped.

I don't understand your Avalon entry. Avalon batch #1 finished shipping a while ago. Avalon batch #2 is currently being shipped. Avalon batch #3 will ship in a month or two.
3455  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 26, 2013, 12:09:44 AM
BFL is cancelling pre-orders that paid $149, so that they can sell them at the new $249 price point. Extremely disreputable business practice.
3456  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 25, 2013, 08:57:01 PM

There is no 'breach of contract', any business can perfectly legally refuse you service or delivery and choose to refund your money. How do you not understand this? Hell, a gas station can refuse you to buy a pack of gum if they feel like it. Nothing illegal about that unless they refuse you based on race, gender or sexual orientation.

"Refusing" a purchase is very different than accepting payment, failing to deliver the goods, raising the prices, and forcing a refund on a customer. While it may not be literally illegal, it is scammy.
3457  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 25, 2013, 06:56:31 PM

I understand and have read that law.  But for that to stick you have to prove intent. ...ask any lawyer, it sounds simple, but it's not

I just love seeing these brand new accounts coming to BFL's defense after missing 7+ months of deadlines. Quite entertianing. Thanks Josh.
3458  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 25, 2013, 02:45:29 PM

Nor would I offer any choice if one of my customers slated me so publically, so often. I'd give them their money back and be done with them...

Let me know what business you run, so I can stay far away from it.
3459  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ***UPDATED WWW.ASICGIGAHASH.COM*** K1 NANO NOW AVAILABLE on: May 24, 2013, 06:34:31 PM

But if you read the product description correctly it clearly states that the product will be ready for shipment Mid July.

In the SHOUTING title it states clearly "NOW AVAILABLE". It is not. The SHOUTING title is absolutely misleading.

Mods, move this thread.

3460  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: predicting difficulty on: May 23, 2013, 05:17:14 PM

Neither can Bitcoin levels accurately be predicted. Bitcoin has no intrinsic value other than the opportunity cost of using it relative to transaction costs of other payment mediums. This means that there is no guaranteed upside potential other than during speculative bubbles. The price of Bitcoin seems to have stabilized around USD 120 after its wild swings in the past two months, and it is quite reasonable to use $120 as an estimate of future price.  However investors in mining rigs need to consider scenarios where the price drops $100 or $80.

That's why it makes far more sense to eliminate the fiat exchange rates and calculate profits based solely on bitcoins spent to purchase the equiment and bitcoins generated by the equipment. A Jalapenos pre-order purchased for 25 btc needs to generate 25 btc to break even.
