3461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Can I sell zcash in bittrex? on: June 18, 2017, 02:36:53 AM
The only option I see on bittrex is btc to zec. I do not show zec-btc therefore is it true I cannot trade zec-btc there?

that is one market, you don't show two different names just by swapping the place of the coin name and its base market to create a new one to sell and another one for buy orders. you buy and sell (aka trade) in same place. and it is better for programming too. when you see the word "something-another thing" something is the altcoin and the another thing is the base market. like ZEC-BTC, which means you buy ZEC with bitcoin as far as API calls are concerned.
3462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are you going to do when Vitalik gets impeached? on: June 18, 2017, 02:21:12 AM
the funny part is that nobody cares!
those experienced enough who can see this, will either avoid it at all costs or enjoy the profit while it lasts and are the first ones to dump ether before anyone else to secure their profits.
and the rest are just sheep who follow that coinmarketcap.com shows them as "top" cryptocurrency! and they always get burnt and leave the altcoin scene forever and most of them will only have bitcoin for the future.

3463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a Malfunctioning Prototype of Litecoin on: June 18, 2017, 02:11:37 AM
I don't know when people are going to stop comparing a tiny altcoin with bitcoin!
when you are comparing two things these two things have to be in the same state as each other. then compare them. bitcoin is too big compared to any of the altcoins in both number of transactions and number of people using it. if you want to say X is better than BTC then X have to first function with the same number of transactions per day for at least a year and don't break down or centralize or .... then call it "better".

for example how will litecoin function after 3 years of being under constant spam attack on its network
3464  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC can be a great store of value. Not for small transactions. on: June 18, 2017, 02:05:23 AM
BTC can be a great store of value without being able to use it for small transactions. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

https://mobile.twitter.com/mecampbellsoup/status/872549286008979460

What dou you think?

like always it is idiotic to say bitcoin is just one thing and not the other.
bitcoin is a great store of value and it is a great way to sent small transactions, the fact that currently (because of reasons everyone knows) fees have gone up doesn't change the fact that bitcoin has been great at both fronts for 8+ years!

if today we start saying bitcoin is not for "small transactions" and agree on it, to morrow we will hear "bitcoin is not for medium transactions" and eventually we will turn bitcoin into something that a small group of people will hold millions in and never move. in other words we will kill bitcoin with our own hands.
3465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thread for little known altcoins with potential on: June 16, 2017, 03:24:07 AM
Many of the coins listed in top 100 to 200 have added little of value to the community and don't seem to have much potential.  Would like to list lesser known coins that might not have as much money behind them, but have a good team, and potential to do something useful.

this is a good topic, thanks for starting it.
I say if you focus on the potential and reality of it rather than focusing on which coin is getting pumped more it is going to be the better topic of this board. it seems like this community so far has turned into "where is the money" rather than "where is the technology".
I don't have any altcoins in mind to suggest adding but I'll make sure to watch how this thread continues.
3466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Old coin] Will bunnycoin become next dogecoin? on: June 16, 2017, 03:04:30 AM
don't hold your breath.

this has been happening to all the dead/small coins out there. it is the pumping money that travels between markets. it pumps one altcoin then moves on to the next to do the same thing.
that is why you should do the same thing too. if you find a rise then join in and enjoy the profits but don't forget the important part: move on!
3467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BIP148 Coin/Token? on: June 16, 2017, 02:55:37 AM
stop wasting your time on tokens that has not yet happened. exchanges list these to make more money on a "promise" not a reality.
if BIP 148 comes and fails there will be no tokens and you just wasted your time and money.
if BIP 148 comes and succeeds it will be bitcoin. there is nothing else.
if BIP 148 comes and does things half assed with little support and splits everything then we are all screwed!
3468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: crypto correction over on: June 15, 2017, 03:16:54 AM
Looking at some major crypto charts e.g bitcoin, ethereum, dash etc., it seems that this 3 day correction is almost over.
onwards and upwards!   Tomorrow will tell.

it has not even started yet! what are you looking at?
bitcoin's correction happened multiple times and it was on the rise when the new drama created by the UASF/UAHF started and caused a new dip. and we don't know what will follow after this for the timebeing.

as for Ethereum, you haven't yet seen the "correction" because the ICO dumps has not yet started. let some of them cash out and start the panic then we will talk about how much it will drop and "corrects".

as for Dash they seem to have lost the interest from traders, there was a volume increase but that is all. there are a lot more altcoins to be pumped right now that nobody cares about big coins anymore because the profit is in small altcoins now.
3469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I feel that I screwed the pooch on the best crypto boom we'll ever get on: June 15, 2017, 03:05:16 AM
My biggest mistake was holding onto Litecoin too long after Segwit activation, and letting my investment stagnate while the rest of the crypto market rocketed upwards.
this is a big problem that all of us have when investing in altcoins. it is hard sometimes to let go of an altcoin which you are expecting to go to the moon, specially when there is a lot of hype surrounding it.
I still hold some LTC though Wink
but it is best to always sell as soon as top was hit and get out. if it continued rising get back in an enjoy the rise if not you are out and have the money to invest in something better.

Quote
I don't know if the altcoin market will ever grow 1500% in 3 months ever again.
don't worry it will happen again. let a couple of months go by, and this bubble burst then the market will go into hibernation and after some time another pump season will start.

When I first heard of Ethereum it was $12, now it is at $360. If I had invested just $2,000 I would be looking at $60,000 now within just 3 months.
when I first heard of (some coin that I forgot the name already) a couple of days ago it was worth 5 satoshis and then in a couple of days it reached 250 satoshi. if I had invested $2,000 I would be looking at $100,000. and only gained in a couple of days with a small risk.

instead of moping over something that is already in a bubble, start getting your money out and look for others who have not yet been pumped.
3470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SERIOUS] FINAL thread to settle them all: IS ETHEREUM A SCAM OR NOT? on: June 15, 2017, 02:54:33 AM
it is a bit hard to categorize an altcoin as scam because all of them are doing a same thing and ethereum is no different. they just were wiser on using the money!
they had a good plan ahead, they got some money and started advertising the shit out of it. spamming everywhere and playing on people's emotions. paying people to spam for them, FUDing bitcoin, a lot of other things to raise the ICO. then unlike other ICO idiots who cash out the ICO and spend it on swag, they used that ICO to manipulate price, to advertise more widespread, paid a lot more people to spam. then the project was on the way to rise itself.
you can call this scam or a good business plan to make a shitload of money Wink

as for the platform itself. it is terrible. only because there are a lot of others who are doing the same, and offer a way for smart contracts to work on their platform but their difference is that they blew their ICO money instead of using it wisely like how ETH guys did.
the cost of ethereum (gas) is rising badly. things like Rootstock will eliminate that cost and will be nearly zero while working on bitcoin blockchain and practically make Ethereum useless.

and one more thing that I find very dangerous and scary about ethereum which also led me to sell all my stash recently is the fact that a lot of ICOs were created on this platform, all using ETH tokens. as I said above, these devs will soon sell a large portion of the money they raised in form of ETH and that will create a big sell pressure on the market. which means a serious risk of price crash. and we all know with any even small price drops in this market a wave of panic sellers will come and from that point everyone else sees the drop and wants to do a stop loss hence creating even bigger drop.
3471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH/btc My 2 cents ? on: June 15, 2017, 02:39:27 AM
the only thing that is driving ETH price up and will soon become its very death are all the ICOs that raised a lot of money, the money that could only enter them in for of ETH tokens, not fiat, not bitcoin, not any other altcoin but only ETH tokens.

a lot of newbies bought ETH just to invest in these ICOs and there are a lot of them, each of which raising a lot of money!!!

and this will be the death of ethereum. very soon all these ICO developers who got all the free money would want to cash out. even if it means liquidating a small part of the ICO (just like what ETH foundation and Vitalik did with 25% of their ICO in early days) and that will start the same trend in the opposite direction.
3472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The king is already dead. on: June 15, 2017, 02:22:47 AM
LOL. if every time that an altcoin comes out and claims to be "the king" and want to replace bitcoin somebody paid me 1 satoshi then I would have been richer than bill gates by now Wink

it is funny though. I like to observe how many people fall each time for the same story and always end up face down under the dump of that altcoin's whales.
3473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happens when a coin reaches the maximum supply??? on: June 14, 2017, 03:41:57 AM
Nothing. Rules remain the same for the protocol. Only parameter altered is block reward, that will be 0 once the last one is mined

actually a lot of things will happen because of that!

those altcoins that are relying on the distribution model of bitcoin, which is creation of new tokens in form of block reward given to the miners which then sell it to the market, has so far died before they reach their final stage of even nearing maximum supply let alone reach it.

and there is a good chance that the rest which are not close to that date will die badly because as the difficulty rises or the mining reward lowers and as the price of altcoins drop over time, mining becomes less profitable and because of that miners will stop mining and leave the network open to attacks.
if you check out some of the old nearly dying altcoins you can see many of them are attacked every now and then because their network is weak now.
3474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What percentage of the world population holds some crypto? on: June 14, 2017, 03:27:24 AM
two big mistakes you are making in my opinion:
1. using marketcap which is meaningless because you are talking about "how many people are holding".
2. you are talking about crypto in general! that 7B only knows and hears about bitcoin and never any of the altcoins!

you see, majority of those who are in "crypto" are in it for trading it. and traders never hold crypto instead they go in fiat and stay there. which means your number is far less than what you've calculated. and who cares about traders who hold crypto for a short period of time!

the only important factor regarding crypto currencies is their utilities. if they have some real world usages then we have something to measure and talk about. but as far as they are being traded in exchanges and never even leave their platform all the numbers are meaningless: volume, supply, price, marketcap,...
3475  Economy / Speculation / Re: Might giants of technology and online world enter Bitcoin mining? on: June 14, 2017, 03:14:36 AM
first of all these "giants of technology" are making much more money from what they are already doing without the hassle of mining a new technology with volatile price. so they will continue to stick to that. $4000-$5000 profit per block is small for them!

also miners never keep bitcoin so that the price reaches 10K or whatever, they have bills to pay. and as a business you don't hold what you earn you need to spend it to be considered profitable.
3476  Economy / Exchanges / Re: {BREAKING NEWS} Coinbase Offline Due To 'Unprecedented Demand' on: June 14, 2017, 03:07:40 AM
I think franky's answer is the closest answer to reality. Coinbase had some problems very recently regarding ethereum that they also recently added. they didn't have enough funds to pay for withdrawals!! they didn't go down that time so there has been many complaints about their ETH withdrawals being stuck because of lack of funds on coinbase. you'd think a coin with so called 90+ million coins has enough to go around Wink
3477  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin charts == Déjà vu on: June 13, 2017, 03:37:34 AM
how many more of these do you think we will see in the future before people catch on to the pattern?

3478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What happens when ETH is the #1 coin? on: June 13, 2017, 03:14:56 AM
as far as marketcap goes it is already number 3 with bitcoin number 2 and another random altcoin on number 1 so it can't happen for a very long time.

as far as price goes, the pump is highly unlikely to be able to bring any altcoin's price as high as bitcoin's and keep it there for long. the high price of bitcoin comes from its vast utilities. ethereum just has one usage and that is for creating new smart contracts which you see them as lots of ICOs and nothing else.

as far as usage goes, many people love to call ethereum a currency whereas it is not and it sucks as being that if you ever try it and it already costs a lot to pay the transaction fees for it.

so in short no, being number 1 requires a lot more features and usefulness which I see ETH lacking.
3479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 1337? on: June 13, 2017, 03:09:45 AM
you can always use google to find anything just add altcoin keyword to 1337 or use the key: "site:bitcointalk.org" to search inside bitcointalk using google.
you can also always use coinmarketcap to find these altcoins yourself.
http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/1337/
it has the links to website, announcement and explorers on top of other information.
3480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum SCAM? on: June 12, 2017, 07:12:43 AM
I don't really understand how you are making the conclusion of ethereum is scam from this!
there has been a big ICO which was about 70 million (more or less) ether tokens and a large part of it went to the developers and the foundation controls a lot of it also. that is how they are pumping it.

- the amount of coins that satoshi has is nowhere even remotely close to 11% (1.81 mil) it is a lot less than a million and that is a big speculation (around 5% tops) and it was gained through normally mining bitcoin like anybody else could. it was not pre mine or ICO scam.

- the distribution and the mining reward of etherum is terrible if you think of it as a currency but it is not a currency and was never meant to be used as a currency which is why the mining reward is higher and the daily new coins because of faster blocks is much higher.

with all that said I believe ethereum can not really be called a "scam" but it certainly is a terrible platform and the tokens are being pumped hard with manipulation of public and usage of poloniex pumping team.
