3501  Economy / Exchanges / Re: bittrex is a scam website - AVOID! on: June 07, 2017, 02:30:26 AM
you are the first person to say something like this!
and I have been using bittrex for over 2 years now without any problems with anything like what you just described.
3502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Educate me. How does a coin become "worthless"? on: June 06, 2017, 03:26:20 AM
Right now it's worth ~200 satoshi (I said that right?).
yes!

Quote
I'm a newbie....
...The product looks solid, the team looks good, etc.
I'm sorry but these two statements contradict each other!
how do you know it is solid? how do you even know the team and know they are good if you are new to this?

I am not so familiar with the project to say if you are correct or wrong I am just curious to know how you came to this conclusion.

Quote
It was worth ~20 satoshi a month ago.
it was 4-5 satoshi in May

Quote
Speculation has driven it up, correct?
yes and no.
it is called a pump and dump. these markets you see in altcoins world are all small and heavily manipulated. there are whales with lots of money and groups with lots of idiots following them who do this. they buy some random altcoin until the price is up and as soon as others join in and price goes up to the near maximum possible they start their selling aka dumping and price drops:

Quote
So theoretically it could fall to that level again if everyone sold.
also known as dumping.

Quote
But why would they? I imagine it's very quantitative but would it be possible for whales to just kill its value and drop the price ten fold (pump and dump)? That aside what else could happen? The developers could get into a scrap and the project falls to the wayside? BTC tanks? What could cause a "worse case scenario"? Appreciate any insight!
why do you think anybody buys an altcoin? think about it for a little while.

... they all do it as an investment and because there is no usage for any of the altcoins despite their supporters pretending to be. so just like any (short-term) investment the investors want to take profit. so they sell. and as I explained it is pump and dump, so the pumpers WANT THEIR MONEY OUT to do the same with another coin.
you go in on 4 satoshi then pump it to 200, there is no room to pump more, so you get out and get in the next 4 satoshi coin and pump that to 200 and make the same profit and next and next.

and these small coins are not affected by bitcoin price at all.
3503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin wallet transfer on: June 06, 2017, 03:03:53 AM
if it is encrypted you need the password that you used to encrypt it, there is no other way.
litecoin-core is very similar to bitcoin-core and they share a lot of commands. so you can search for bitcoin equivalent and apply that to litecoin core if got stuck in any steps:
in the console type:
Code:
dumpprivkey litecoinaddress
you can use the console help if  necessary.
Code:
Help\Debug Windows

here is a helpful link: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/4203/how-can-i-export-the-private-key-for-an-address-from-the-satoshi-client

and when you get the private keys then you need to start a new wallet in electrum-ltc and instead of seed you paste these private keys in and make a new wallet.
3504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are there people here from 2013 who are not millionaires now? on: June 06, 2017, 02:51:42 AM
what I don't understand is why you posted this question in an altcoin board!

you do realize that bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that has gone up big time in the long term, right?
and all the altcoins have been rising in the past few months only, and as a repetitive cycle kind of thing they do this every year where they are pumped to big percentages profit and then there is a slow agonizing death while they continuously go down the rest of the year.
3505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SNC] SunContract - Decentralized Energy Market on: June 06, 2017, 02:36:38 AM
Thats true i were looking on the last days to get a solar energy panel, but the price of it is very big, even if i do sell some energy to my currently provider its an investment i will recover into 6-10 years, and i dont know if i will still the same place where i do live. I really hope this project can grow and reach all countries, being able to purchase equipement with bitcoin would be amazing as well.
Yea, the problem is that Solar panels are really expensive, and if the government tries to subsidize them then everybody pays for them. Perhaps at some point soon we’ll have some more advanced technology that allows us to have a more efficient system for home-generated power other than a regular generator.

the most important factor of the solar panels is their efficiency. if they are efficient enough to produce a considerable amount of energy from sun during the daylight then any price would be acceptable. and the problem will always be the fact that they can only work during daylight. so nights and cloudy days are like putting the business on pause.
3506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Choose altcoin for trading on: June 05, 2017, 03:44:08 AM
The amount of altcoin is overwhelming,
So I am confused to choose a good altcoin for trading, Can you please mention any coin whose price is stable, So I can include it in my trading list,
I once had a bitter experience, I bought altcoin, but in the end it did not sell And lost from the market,  For example digieuro

first thing to know is that altcoins are pump and dumps, which means when they go up you need to wait for a big drop afterwards. this drop can come in a form of a sharp drop to the ground or it can come in a form of a series of small dips on downward spiral to the ground in bigger altcoins with big daily volumes.

the strategy that I have been using for some time now and I am quite happy with it is to watch the market and find those coins that are rising at that moment in time. then I join in and buy them just to dump them in a couple of hours for a 10% or so profit.
this has been working well so far and the profit is much better than risking holding of big altcoins that are in bubble waiting to burst.
3507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will ETH rocket to 0.2BTC on: June 05, 2017, 03:38:08 AM
for now, ICOs are driving ETH price.  As long as they continue at current pace ETH will trend up on demand.

that is what scares me the most when I want to invest in ETH!
because we all know that ICOs are mostly scams waiting to happen, and the rest that aren't scams are big failures waiting to happen.

and when these ICOs start to drop like dead bodies they are, they can take ETH price down with them the same way they pushed it up.
3508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt Coins - where does their value come from? on: June 05, 2017, 03:27:39 AM
only hype, pump and dump and manipulations by the whales combined with lots of greedy newbies wanting to make a lot of money overnight!

look up penny stocks that may help you understand it a little better. they are stocks of small companies, virtually pointless with a high volatility and high chance of losing. these companies have no standards, no history, low liquidity, and quite risky.

Quote
Penny stocks are more suitable for investors with a high tolerance for risk. Typically, penny stocks have a higher level of volatility, resulting in a higher potential reward and a higher level of risk. Considering the heightened risk levels associated with investing in penny stocks, investors should take particular precautions.

the correct definition of altcoin market in my opinion is: a game of speculation that resembles gambling more so than trading
3509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Paper/Cold storage of alt coins on: June 05, 2017, 03:19:59 AM
Pente is correct, the idea of cold storage is to make the "wallet" on a cold computer which is a computer that has never been connected to the internet and will never be connected. that is why a live Linux is a common OS to use in situations like this. and you can simply do this with their wallets, your download the code, run it offline to generate keys and save the wallet.dat file.

and then if that altcoin is similar to bitcoin meaning the only thing you need is a private key, then you print that private key on piece of paper and you have a paper wallet.
majority of altcoins are like this, some of them are a bit different, you need to look them up yourself and check to see if it is going to work or not. I never hold altcoins for long to know this!

one problem you may experience is the lack of tools to broadcast your transaction. with bitcoin you can simply make the transaction (unsigned) online and then transfer it to your offline storage and sign it there. many altcoins don't even have this feature. then after signing you need to come back online and broadcast, again you either have to be running a full node yourself or use a tool to push (there are no tools to push altcoin tx online)
3510  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bter.com disabled bitcoin withdrawals? on: June 05, 2017, 03:08:27 AM
maybe you've missed it but bter.com has not been trusted for a very long time, ever since they got hacked out of 7000BTC (I think) and never paid back their users. I still have an account there with some BTC lost which they still remain in my wallet as another name and not-withdrawable.
3511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Questions on: June 04, 2017, 07:20:45 AM
hi there.  Yes i heard buying ETH with btc is easier.  So you telling me they dont require verification of account if buying with btc?  If thats true, then i like this.
the verification is for fiat, as in bank transfer, using credit cards, etc.
for BTC they "usually" don't need verification.

Quote
what exchanges do you use to buy eth with btc?  Also how much fee do they charge?  Example if you want to buy $1000 worth of ETH with btc, how much btc would you have to pay?  Would you have to pay like 2 percentage so 1020 btc for 1000 eth?  Just using a flat number to make it simple.
bittrex
fees are 0.25%
if ETH is 0.08BTC then with 1BTC you can buy 12.46875 ETH considering the fee.

Quote
what wallet do you use for eth?  Is it similar to like using electrum wallet for btc on computer?  That is what i use.  If i didnt use electrum... i would use blockchain and keep btc there even though its an online wallet.
I don't hold any altcoins. not for long anyways, I just hold bitcoin and trade altcoins with it. and during the time I am trading these altcoins I keep them on the exchange wallet and just withdraw bitcoin to my cold storage when I am done.

Quote
Where is the whole wallet that i download from called?  How long would it take to download it?  I would definitely prefer this as oppose to keeping it on a web wallet or exchange.
for any altcoin you have to check their official announcement, website to find out download links.

Quote
So getting altcoins are holding them isn't good idea?  Im confused why.  So many ppl dont think it would ever go very high like bitcoin did?  What sites do you use to trade btw?  Also are you from the usa?  Reason i ask is because if you are from another country, well then it would be different as the exchanges you use would be different.
that is just my approach. you can buy and hold them.
I personally prefer taking less risk and only have my main long term investment in bitcoin and in this time only use altcoins temporarily to increase that holding.
no I am not in US. and I am using bittrex and c-cex and cryptopia but mainly in bittrex for trading. they usually don't restrict from which country you are coming but it is a good idea to check out their ToS or ask the support.
3512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin pump over from this year on: June 04, 2017, 03:39:16 AM
it's already pump and dumped this year, sell your coins to the exhanger and wait for 2 years it already pumped sell your coins

if you wanted to sell, then you should have sold somewhere between 0.022BTC and 0.019BTC not now!
right now price has dropped hard and it has been stable on a flat line for a decent amount of time at a fixed USD price with a decent volume.
and since LTC has been a disappointing small pump compared to all the moon pumps in this market I say it has still some potential of getting pumped when nobody is thinking about it.
3513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Questions on: June 04, 2017, 03:29:39 AM
I'm posting this question here as someone mentioned to post this in the altcoin subforum.  I ask this because i notice Ethereum price has gotten way up... its already $225 or so already.  I have heard about this and litecoin previously but didn't think much about it.  I took a look at ethereum and it was around $10 a coin earlier this year.
you have only heard about ethereum because they advertise it a lot and do it all over the internet!
otherwise there have been a lot more altcoins that have gone up a lot more than ethereum had percentage-wise.

so if it is profit that you are looking for then a lot of altcoins are a choice for you.

Quote
That means if you had bought say 100 coins, well that $1000 would be already $22500 or so.  If you bought 500 coins, that $5000 would be over $100,000 as of now.
exactly what I meant by "percentage-wise". if you invested $1000 in another shitcoin that had gone up 6000% (a lot more than ETH had) you could have made it into $61,000.

and in the same period of time ETH has gone up only 600% meaning $1000 turns into $7000

Quote
Does anyone know if it was easy/hard to acquire ethereum earlier when it was $10?
similar to all other altcoins you go to a trading platform and buy these. and it is super easy to buy these with bitcoin and a bit harder with fiat since you have to verify your account.

Quote
....

you buy altcoins from exchanges
you can mine them also if you have good hardware and cheap electricity
you keep them in their wallet, which would be something similar to what bitcoin core is (not exactly but it is a good comparison considering size).
most of them don't have SPV wallets such as electrum so you either have to download their whole wallet (blockchain) and store it on your computer or use web wallets or exchanges to risk and store them which is not recommended at all.
also altcoins are good for trading only. don't try to keep holding them for long, if you want to start with them just learn what trading is and do that. otherwise stay away because you WILL lose money.
3514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Top Fastest Growing Cryptocurrencies in May on: June 04, 2017, 03:11:57 AM
your numbers are all in one month and if you zoom out a little to a longer period you can see the pump has been much bigger. for example ripple had >5000% rise!
and it when you look at it this way, it screams a pump and a huge altcoin bubble which has a big risk of blowing up. which is already happening. many of these coins had gone down and others starting their downward spiral period. and this happens every year and for some altcoins multiple times in a year!
3515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar Raises $200k in New Funding on: June 04, 2017, 02:58:43 AM
Ironically, the bitcoin community seem to have something against the decentralized projects.

shouldn't this be in reverse? meaning "...against centralized ..." because bitcoin is all about decentralization and majority of users understand and want this.
it is possible that one of the reasons for OpenBazaar not being that big as they want it to be is that it is still not an easy thing to use. it was improved compared to the first release but it needs a lot more work to become widely used.

in other words people have nothing against decentralization, they just want an easier options.
3516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SNC] SunContract - Decentralized Energy Market on: June 03, 2017, 07:35:25 AM
I like the vision of sunContract's that support the global self-sufficient energy community based on renewable energy by digitalization of electricity, with this much energy we can use and we take advantage of especially the suncontract offers the purchase of electrical energy through the suncontract energy pool. That is very unusual for me.
I like also the vision of the SunContract. You have a point men, they are supporting the global self-sufficient energy community based on renewable enery. This project is the no. 1 need of our society.
I believe that the vision of your project is true. I believe also that your mission is to distribute energy by using renewable resources with a very cheap amount. I hope that your project will become successful.
We need to believe that this project have a great future that can become successful. We need to have strong hope that this project will not fail and become a wonderful project.

im sure this company will grow faster, because the product is highly needed around the world. this product helps each country to conserve electricity, so i believe this company will go far, and i want to work with this great company.

the energy market has always been a good place to be, and if you can get big in the market then it is time to flow in the cash and get rich.
I have not yet completely checked the project and just skimmed through the whole thing but it seems like a nice platform with a great idea of connecting producers and consumers together. and since they say they work with "
"renewable energy" source then it seems even better.

3518  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying bitcoin pain in the ass. Next to impossible. on: June 02, 2017, 03:20:32 AM
So many identity documents and other obstacles are required in order to buy into bitcoin with usd or euro and if you make a mistake you get your money seized with no chance of a return. Are there any methods or ways around this?

this has nothing to do with buying bitcoin, it is the "Anti Money Laundering" or AML laws that these places you are trying to buy from has to follow in order to be able to function in a fiat world while using fiat! and it is not limited to bitcoin market, if for example you go and try to sign up on a Forex market and deposit fiat,... then you have to take all these steps there too.

this is one of the reasons bitcoin was invented. so that the customers don't have to give all these documents when they want to use their money (bitcoin).
3519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Real life usage of bitcoin on: June 02, 2017, 03:12:04 AM
...
Well what is the real life usage of gold? Isnt that it is just used to shine things and it makes you feel almighty with the gold you have?. But that's is just the typical perspective of it. Real usage of it is to more firm objects like any other minerals. They add a little gold for a more stronger foundation of some items like the diamonds. The same is the usage of btc but in the cryptoworld. Btc may make you feel rich but it also helps other coins as a foundation for there own coins.

glad you put it that way Smiley
it is the same and it proves my point. the fact that you know only 1 usage for gold (or bitcoin) doesn't mean they are being used only for that 1 and nothing else.

1. jewelry is obviously the most usage
2. investment, as a financial backing for currency
3. Electronics in computers and other electrical devices
4. Dentistry as in fillings
5. Aerospace
6. Medical usages: from coating biological specimens to usage in nanotechnology

and none of these are small time usages.
3520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Inventor of BitTorrent Plans His Own CryptoCurrency on: June 02, 2017, 02:53:53 AM
this is an old news which has a better article here in my opinion: https://torrentfreak.com/bittorrent-inventor-bram-cohen-will-start-his-own-cryptocurrency-170424/

I can't decide if this is going to be a great thing or just another person trying to get in on the ongoing hype for money making through cryptocurrencies one way or another.

Bram Cohen, is one of those rare people who are mostly into the technology rather than being in it for the money. but then he goes and says things like "I’m going to make a cryptocurrency company".
but I hope we can finally see something worthwhile that actually contributes something useful to the technology.

you can also read his presentation on proof of space and proof of time here: https://cyber.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/bramcohen.pdf
