3521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: 🌟⚡⛏️💰[ANN] Giga Watt: Best Home for your Mining. Starts today! on: June 04, 2017, 12:40:42 PM

True, I am still doubting on purchasing some panda miners. However, ETC is not switching to POS soon and is almost equal in profitability. My only concern is that all hashing power now used for mining ETH will switch to ETC and will reduce profitability in mining ETC significantly. Is there a fixed date on which ETH will switch to POS?

I doubt that a lot of it will switch to ETC - ETC is fairly small.

A LOT will switch to ZEC.

 Some will switch to XMR.

Smaller amounts will switch to smaller coins like ETC and ZEN and such.

Some will see the drop in profitability, say "no more" because they are in high-price electric areas and just sell out or turn their mining rigs into gaming rigs or some such.

A must read for everyone into the blockchain space, especially startups and potential investors into ICOs: http://startupmanagement.org/2015/02/07/the-bitcoin-startup-ecosystem-is-frail-beware-of-the-next-crash/

That's from ~2.5 years ago. All the tips on how to prevent risks are welcome. However, the writer seems a bit too pessimistic on the imminence of the ICOs collapse.

And Giga Watt isn't technically a startup anyway.

 MegaBigPower been around some years....

3523  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 12 GPU rig... but how??? on: June 04, 2017, 12:33:23 PM
Yes, riser-rig miners, ASRock has heard your complaints about the shortage of H81 (keep in mind that when Intel stops making a chipset, board makers CAN'T make more of the boards using that chipset once they run out of stock of that chipset) and has a MONSTER of a replacement/upgrade that is apparently fairly close to release.

They DO need to figure out and fix whatever caused their demo to crash and burn first, though - perhaps add 1 or 2 more MOLEX to the MB for PCI-E slot power I'd guess....

There is already a longish thread specifically about the H110 BTC Pro though....

3524  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Building a Nvidia Mining Rig, Need Part Recommendation (1070s??) on: June 04, 2017, 12:29:23 PM

I was thinking of getting a few 1070s to start. Here are my options based on stock:
(3) Gigabyte Overclocked 8gb at $390/each
(3) Gigabyte G1 8gb at $410/each

Should work well together, IIRC they are set by Gigabyte to almost identical factory overclock.
I suspect that first one you listed is the one I have 6 of.

For a triple 1070 rig, I find a good 850 watt PS is more than enough - could probably get by with a 750, or a 650 with enough undervolt and core downclock.

I don't build riser rigs, and my rigs don't tend to be pure "mining" rigs though.

Most of them are built on the ASRock FM2A88X Extreme 6+ (using 2 full-length 1070 and a Gigabyte "ITX" short 1070).

Same motherboard could work with a pair of 1080 or 1080ti in the first 2 slots, but keep the "shortie" card for the third slot for cooling - and you will definitely want more PS for a pair of 1080ti (power draw on the 1080 is normally 20 watts or so more than the 1070, not exactly a big difference).

For a pure mining rig, I'd probably go ASRock 970 Extreme4 (my current gaming rig and one other rig are built on this MB).

Pretty much any "3 x PCI-E 16-bit slot" board should work, as they all have the same 2-5-7 spacing as the pair I mentioned, or the Gigabyte board Phil mentioned.

3525  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What are the best replacement for RX 480 / 470s for Ether Mining? on: June 04, 2017, 12:18:28 PM
Mixing AMD and NVidia on the same machine is pretty easy to do under Windows - it's one of the VERY rare things Windows does better than LINUX.

Stability takes a hit, but it DOES work.

3526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I mix different GPUs on the same rig? on: June 04, 2017, 12:16:28 PM
All of the RX cards to date should coexist quite peacefully together, as they're the same generation of the same basic architecture.

470/480 and 570/580 in particular are the SAME CHIP (minor process change from the 4xx to the 5xx but at the software interface level no real change), except the x70 models has one CU disabled (probably due to a flaw on the die in most cases).

3527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Until how long will GPU mining last? on: June 04, 2017, 12:14:11 PM
Lack of GPUs prolongs profitability for those who already have them, or manage to get some.

However, do keep in mind that NVidia makes GPUs too, and they are very profitable on most coins and can often beat AMD on hash/watt even where they lose on hash/$ (mostly ETH ETC and such, and the Cryptonight coins like XMR).

For ZEC (which isn't the most profitable NVidia coin by far but is probably has the second most GPUs mining on it) NVidia is quite close on hash/$ (and might even WIN on some comparisons) WITHOUT FACTORING IN the current AMD "gouge" pricing.

Funny part - folks have been pushing the Skein coins a lot, but I actually ended up making more on something else (that I'm NOT going to mention here, as it's fairly small and I don't want the profitability of it to get overwhelmed by a bunch of newbies or even one BIG farm jumping all over it).

3528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASrock H110 Pro BTC+ 13 GPU Board on: June 04, 2017, 12:00:37 PM
Damn... I want 15 of these, stat!

Pretty sure windows will be limited to 8 gpus, anything more will require Linux.

Good job, Asrock.

i guess they will find a way to setup a special bios in this motherboard to allow windows to recognize ore than 8 gpu, otherwise what the point of 13 pcie slot?, this board is aiming at windows uers

This board is aiming at MINERS, many of which run LINUX.

 Also, see my up-2 comment.
3529  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASrock H110 Pro BTC+ 13 GPU Board on: June 04, 2017, 11:58:49 AM
H110 with 13 gpus? How is that possible? H110 has 6 pci-e lanes, Z170 has 20 and it has trouble with 7 gpus...

 At least 16 from the CPU + 6 = 22 lanes.

I'd bet that most of those 1x slots "share" with the 16X slot, though the M2 will eat a couple.
Could the 16x be hard-wired with 4 actual lanes (nothing new THERE).

3530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASrock H110 Pro BTC+ 13 GPU Board on: June 04, 2017, 11:56:51 AM
That's absolutely incredible !

Hopefully they will keep them in production line for some time and not cut it off like they did with the h81 which made these boards go on sale for prices much more than what they're really worth.

If Intel no longer makes the chipset that board was based on, how is ASRock supposed to keep making the board?

As far as the 13 card question - LINUX can support more than 8 cards but it takes some work, Windows at this point is limited to 8 max *BUT* one of the articles about this motherboard had a comment about "AMD is working on updated Windows drivers" to support more than 8 cards.

The best alternative is to wait for a bit.

ASRock finally updates the Pro BTC to something scary.

3533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can i plug another GPU on my PSU? on: June 03, 2017, 11:43:32 PM
Don't trust Afterburner "wattage" readings - as I recall it ONLY looks at wattage being drawn from the PCI-E power connectors, or it might just be VERY inaccurate.

It IS possible for a PS to cause a home fire - but very unlikely, unless you're running an open rig with any cardboard or wood nearby, at which point it becomes unlikely not VERY unlikely.
It would generally need for one or more of the CONNECTORS or CABLES to overload, fry, and start the fire - an internal PS short would tend to be contained by the case of the PS.

Based on the "at the wall" reading you posted, I would NOT attempt to connect a 6'th CPU to that power supply.

Running a non-server PS at 100% generally WILL cause issues over time - server PS are specifically designed and RATED for 24/7 operation, even the GOOD quality consumer PS are generally not (though if you keep the ambient cool enough they MIGHT handle it for quite a while).

ALL current ATX-type PS also lose efficiency as you load them down much past 50% - but that's a fairly minor factor, usually in the 2% ballpark from 50% load to 100% load.

3534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can anyone suggest cost effective UPS for minning rig on: June 03, 2017, 11:37:26 PM
That's why you upgrade the batteries - the 12v 7AH gel cells in most recent APC "consumer" models don't last for beans 'cause they're being pushed too hard and don't have a lot of capacity to start with.

Ignore VA - you need to pay attention to the wattage, as that's what matters on modern PFC power supplies (IIRC 80Plus requires PFC as part of the standard).

Online UPS are nice, but they also tend to be quite a bit more expensive for the same wattage capacity and they also tend to be noticeably less efficient.

Uptime on an APC 1500 (any of them, they're all pretty close on efficiency) is going to be measured in hours at a 750 watt load (and you're probably not pulling QUITE that much with your rig) if you upgrade to good-quality car batteries, and even more if you go with deep-cycle batteries.

You do realise you were replying to a post that was almost 3.5 YEARS old?

3536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: (s) 19" Case /Server Case for GPU Rig on: June 03, 2017, 11:29:30 PM
The L4000 won't work AT ALL for 4 x GPUs, unless you use single-slot stuff like the AMD WX series or the Galax "Katana" models.

It only has 7 "peripheral" slots, you need *2 each* for most current GPUs that are worth mining on.

For more than 4, you're looking at either VERY high priced cases, or custom "mining specific" cases that still tend to be high priced.

3537  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1070 improvement on: June 03, 2017, 11:23:44 PM
OK, now I am into SERIOUS disbelief.

Some of my 1070 cards are THAT SAME IDENTICAL EVGA SC model - and they do NOT achieve 31 Mh/s on ETH, they do 29 or a bit LESS at the highest memory overclock they can handle with stability (+500 in Afterburner)

Actually those are all micron memory cards. My samsung cards ( I have very few of them Sad ) can do even 32MH/s. But to be honest, only the first micron memory brands had issues. Nowadays the difference in perfomance is much smaller.

All in all, almost all of my cards can do over 600 and be stable on memory forever (some can do even 700 to be stable, having problems with Palit and ASUS cards - not stable on more than 500Mhz). Maybe it is only one card in a rig that is pulling the whole rig down? Also having high GPU clock on eth can actually jeopardize the performance. Try to hit 1750 mhz at max on the core while having as much as memory OC as possible to be stable.

I've tried all 3 cards in a single-card rig - same limits on memory OC, no matter where I put the core clock.

I see better ability to bump the memory up on my Gigabyte cards - even the mini-ITX model cards I have - which is part of the reason I stopped buying EVGA even when it's on sale at the same price.

Academic point to me anyway by now, been probably 2 months since I had a 1070 pointing at ETH for more than an hour or two of testing.

3538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX1070 - Hashrate - Power drain - best performance on: June 03, 2017, 11:19:18 PM
Each 1070 is doing ~25 on Eth and ~250 on SIA.

They are Zotac Mini cards at all stock configuration at the moment.

This is very low compared to RX580, which makes 30/570.

RX 580 needs BIOS "memory strapping" mods to get to 30 on ETH

1070 on ETH should be getting more like 28, but it might be getting dropped a fair bit by the SIA dual-mining and it does depend noticeably on the brand of memory on the specific 1070 (and on OC settings).

3539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CPU mining on: June 03, 2017, 11:16:41 PM
XMR/Monero is probably the best known coin that is still practical to mine on a RECENT MODEL cpu.

Looks like Bitmain got a new batch of S9/T9/R4 chips in *AND* someone else (Caanan or Bitfury most likely) also got a new batch of chips in and sold/online over the last week.
