Huh. I had turned donation off, but I now see it somehow got set to 5 minutes. Interesting. I'm approaching 4 days of uptime, though.
362  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Rasberry PI Minepeon(How many days mining uninterrupted) on: August 08, 2013, 11:11:17 PM
Mine has now been up for nearly 4 days. It appears that the trick was to turn off donation mining (sorry!).

One thought I had, however, is that my Pi is one of the originals - a model A I think it's called. I'm wondering whether that makes any difference?

Hi, I just wanted to suggest a pool I am mining on (a measly 120 MHash/s....actually signed up on here so I look into buying some ASIC USB miners I saw someone is selling) but I thought I would suggest the pool I am mining in: http://mmpool.bitparking.com/pool.  It simultaneously mines Bitcoins, Namecoins, devcoins, and ixcoins (no idea what ixcoins are).  I have not read through all the pages of this thread so sorry if this has been suggested.

I used to use that pool. I became disenchanted because it would often take more than a day to find a block, and then sometimes it would be orphaned. I moved to ABC, where you simply get paid per share, and enjoyed getting the same amount of BTC every day. Unfortunately, they're now closing. I'm now on 50BTC. I also like BTC Guild, but they've been encouraging people to move on because they're getting too big.

But since that really has nothing to do with alt coins, I'll also mention I'm trying some XPM (Primecoin) mining. It's still in the solo CPU mining stages.

These are my current stats on my MinePeon rig that's been up for 3.5 days (since the last reboot), with no fans or extra heatsinks. I figure the manufacturer knew what they were doing, and if they needed better cooling they would come with it. My numbers appear to be better than what you guys that are using extra cooling are mentioning:

So you have the choice of buying something you can actually get that may not ever pay for itself, or buy something that you'll be waiting several months for (at best) that may also never pay for itself.  Tongue
366  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: what is the best mining hardware for 1000 us dollars on: August 07, 2013, 07:29:24 PM
But the only hardware that doesn't cost more to run than it brings in and is available TODAY would be the USB Block Eruptors.

Tomorrow (exact time not yet determined), the first coupon orders will be made available.  The first coupons are specifically for the users who had units on backorder at 1.05 at the time of the price drop.  All of those orders will get coupons and do not need to worry about the rest of this post.

[Previous post information about a coupone raffle is now inaccurate]

EDIT:  After reviewing the correspondence from ASICMINER, the previously announced plan for coupon distribution is no longer valid.  I did not recall any specifics on how coupons were to be distributed, but after looking through all the PMs (yes, all this communication is through forum PMs), it was identified that the coupons should be assigned in reverse order based on order date.  As such, coupons will simply be assigned to users tomorrow.

Once assigned, coupons will have a 1 week expiration date.  Any unclaimed coupons will be re-assigned every Monday to the next most recent orders.  If you do not want to claim all of your coupons, there will be an option to give up your coupons so the next person can receive them.

How will we know if we got one?
368  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [Temporarily Out of Stock] on: August 05, 2013, 06:08:09 PM
I'm currently running 20 with just fans. I feel heat sinks are overkill.

Fans are probably overkill as well. I run mine with just the heatsinks that were already attached to them, and they work just fine. I'm just careful if I ever need to handle them.  Wink

One thing people might not realize when you sell on Amazon. You do NOT get your money right away. Amazon pays out in 3 week blocks.
So if he sells 1 Block erupter today he will not get paid till 3 Sundays from today. ACH pushes are every Sunday around 2PM PST.

Not sure where you get that from - Amazon pays me weekly or on demand, my choice, and that includes all shipped orders at that point. I just wish they didn't take 20%. At least it's better than the 30% they take on Android apps (which they do delay payment on by a month).
I have been selling painting stencils for almost a year they pay on a rolling 3 week block

Are you having them "fulfilled by Amazon" or shipping yourself? That may be the difference.

myself - Individual Plan

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/help/help-popup.html?itemID=200726720

The reserve amount reflects orders confirmed as shipped during the 14 days immediately preceding each settlement date, per our policy on disbursements for sellers on the Individual Selling plan.

Huh. I do my own shipping as well, but seriously, they'll actually pay me for something the day I ship it if I want them to. I've been a seller for many years, though, I wonder if that makes a difference?
370  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Rasberry PI Minepeon(How many days mining uninterrupted) on: July 29, 2013, 02:38:49 AM
Or so I thought. It looks like it's not actually going down, though. The apache server goes down, so I can't see what's going on, but it keeps right on mining.

I put a better power supply on my Raspberry Pi and then plugged it and the USB hub into a UPS, and everything's working great now. Turns out the Rosewill hub works just fine for at least 4 of the BEs. Not bad for less than $10.  Smiley
373  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why is everyone trying to sell the USB Asic K1 Miner??? on: July 27, 2013, 02:48:42 PM
Reasons I bought a USB miner for USD:

1. It looks cool
2. It will generate some bitcoins and will be kind of historic
3. It's way more fun to have and run than having 1 BTC sitting in a wallet
4. I have a very disposable income and we're talking about a loss of at most, what, $50? Less if the value of bitcoin increases.

Where did you buy them for USD and not BTC?

You can pay inflated prices and buy them in USD on Amazon and Ebay.

I bought mine by buying bitcoin with USD on Coinbase and then buying the devices from BTCGuild. I even managed to time it so that I got it during the $70 dip a few weeks ago.  Grin

I am using a Rosewill 7 port as well ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182176 ), with 4 Block Eruptors. Haven't been able to get it to work stably for more than 24 hours yet. We seem to be having a lot of quick (< 1 sec) power outages right now, and I think that might have something to do with it. Maybe I'll try plugging it into a UPS. I also need to connect a keyboard so that I can see what's going on when it quits working.

Hey, thanks for the tip on MinePeon, by the way. I realized I have a Raspberry Pi sitting in a box doing nothing, so I moved my Block Eruptors over to it. That's definitely the easiest setup I've ever done.

You are welcome. What USB hub are you using, and how many erupters. I really want something like the Anker, top mounted plugs and 10 ports that works with the Pi?
Yes, mine was just catching dust. I just got is as a toy, and something to get better at Linux. I have had it Pi ruinng as a Really slow desktop PC, a PXB with PBX in a Fash, a HTPC with XBMC and now MinePeon. MP is the best use so far.

I got this from Newegg. I chose it based on price and a 2A power supply. It seems to be working ok so far:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182176

I'm using 4 Block Eruptors. The way the ports are situated on the 7 port hub, you can only put 2 in the front (where there are actually 3 ports) and probably none in the back (where there is 1), but you can put 3 on top. I'm only planning on using the 4, so it works fine for me.

However, I am finding I'm unable to keep Minepeon running for more than 24 hours at a time. I'm not sure where the problem is yet. I'm going to have to hook up a keyboard so I can see what's going on.

Go to BTCGuild and follow their instructions for BFGMiner. It's much easier.

I would suggest 50btc or bitminter....I think BTCGuild is throttling new member to keep below 51%  MinePeon is what I am using works out the gate no problems.
Here are a pic of my first asic running a blistering 335 mega hash. I will be a btc millionare in a few hundred years. Shocked I am still running a gpu as well for a total of 930Mh/s. I have ordered 5 more block erupters. I will prolly stop there. I am putting most of my BTC into mining shares.

Yeah, I wasn't necessarily meaning you should mine with BTCGuild, they just have really good instructions. Smiley I actually use abcpool.co for my mining.

I've currently got 2 x 7950 and 4 x USB Block Eruptors, which puts me at about 2.3 GH/s. Which puts me at about where I was at a month ago with just the 2 x 7950s...

Yep, what play described is what was happening. I've now changed the settings to fix it.

379  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGWatcher 1.2.3, the GUI/monitor for CGMiner and BFGMiner to prevent downtime on: July 23, 2013, 05:59:54 PM
Yes, but this requires one instance of CGWatcher per miner. And currently you need to run each instance from a separate folder, otherwise they will overwrite each other's settings in the INI file. I will fix this in the future, but CGRemote is my current priority. Getting this to work is pretty simple, but I'll try to give as much detail as I can so it may seem complicated until you read through the steps. The basic idea is setting up two CGWatchers, each using a unique API port so they don't communicate with the wrong miner.

So assuming you want to run two miners, cgminer using GPUs and bfgminer using ASICs...

Thanks! At first I had a hard time getting 2 instances of CGWatcher to run, but then I updated to the latest version and that fixed that problem. I've now got it working, but there is one problem. For some reason, CGWatcher launches 2 instances of the mining programs. This happens even when there is only one instance of CGWatcher running. This didn't happen in the older version I had been using, so it's either a new bug or I have something wrong on my end (which could well be the case). Have you had other reports of this?
380  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-07-23 Wired.com - Why the Only Real Way to Buy Bitcoins Is on the Streets on: July 23, 2013, 04:41:57 PM
Unfortunately, this kind of press is actually not good for bitcoin. It gives it a bad reputation.

I don't think so, the author actually understands that bitcoin is unstoppable because of this

The author might understand that, but it makes it so that anyone that's actually heard of bitcoin thinks it's something shady. I was telling a coworker about it a couple weeks ago, and he said he had heard the government had shut it down.  Roll Eyes
