361  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: August 28, 2013, 08:20:02 PM
Hi Dave,

Since delivery is imminent, is it possible that prior to shipping you can point us to some instructions on the miner software and installation process for whatever m-board versions you'll be shipping out?
I'd love to start learning how to set up the miner using p2ppool or something else prior to receiving my kit.
Otherwise, in the absence of any official information, some rumors and potentially misguided instructions are currently floating around on how to set up the kits.

Thanks

I took the above KNC quote to mean they don't plan on releasing product during Dec/Jan/Feb to help keep the skyrocketing hashrate down and thereby help customer's ROI UNLESS their competitors release large quantities during those months. Which is almost guaranteed to happen. Am I off base?
That's not my read, no. Under no circumstance will they be selling products in dec/jan/feb.

Haha! What part of "IF" in the following sentence you don't understand?

"We would like to state that ****IF***** any of our competitors continues to add large amounts of hashing power to the network during December, January or February. We will continue to release our devices as competitively priced as we can to protect our customers share of the network.ThanksKnCMiner Team "

So they WILL if competitors add large amounts of hashing power in those months. Nothing to debate.

We are talking about gold mining. This is not a good time to distract Dave from hard core operations by nickel and diming your shovel insurance guys. :p

Waiting to get the first ship notification from the factory...they should have some boards ready by now...

Power adapters for your ATX PSU's are also in production - they should be ready early next week.  All you will need to hook up your rigs is a standard ATX PSU - (boards will take about 330w running full steam).  Raspberry Pi  w/formatted SD card will be provided, including the latest mining code.  Make sure and have at least a house fan or something to move the air through the cards - it doesn't have to be a pro solution.

Oh, and an internet connection Tongue

Hi Dave,

Do you still see any chances to ship M-boards v2.2 for the first batch of August orders? Are there any benefits of that board compared to v1 other than not requiring the custom power adapters?

my biggest 'concern' is am i going to require PCI-e power cables, or will you be sending the earlier m-boards that will run off a molex?

I never saw any molex connectors, The only thing I saw was two screw terminals a + & - 12volts. The adapter is dual PCI-E to + & - screw terminals.

So the answer to your question is Yes.

Now that you guys are caught up with answers that were already provided before, had you read previous posts, :-)  let me ask Dave again, any chances of getting m-boards v2.2 for August? (boards that DO NOT require the custom screw terminals adaptors but simply plugging in to PSU using a standard cable).

You can fantasize and have any amount of orgasmic dreams about conspiracy theories of having double accounts and all that ip address crap and it's good to know that you find something unlikely but in the end...who cares about opinions. It's all about facts.

My research is based on actual calls with the best colocation providers in the US and perhaps even the planet. Find the same info yourself unless you feel lazy enough to not do your own research. I do spend significant time doing investment projects due diligence. Whether you consider that FUD or not, nobody gives a shit. Facts are facts and if xcrowd is so insecure about its final product design that it had to mega-inflate its own specs to be on the safe side, guess what? That "safe side" is killing ROI in real terms whether anyone feels FUDish or not. Couldn't care less about that. Argue with facts, that's what you should be spending your time on.

You know that would have been a very good factual argument until you mentioned best on the planet, with that you hurt everything else you said by trying to show off.

Dude, are you blind to the word "perhaps" ? No reason to feel offended or take it personal. Read that sentence again. My point is that I was doing darn good due diligence in pretty decent colo places.
I'm sure there are better places somewhere else though. There always are. I hear Europe has even better ones due to lack of seismic activity in some areas. Isn't there where Wikileaks hosts its servers? :-) Anyway...
367  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] xCrowd*US/UK*TH/s+ Units on: August 22, 2013, 01:26:19 AM

I actually also agree that those dimensions are way too big. The reason why I'm not concerned is that I will be hosting them myself, in my shed in the garden so even if it's the size of 3 fridges, that would still be okay. But if you are planning to put these in a colocation center, you will probably have some issues.

However, keep in mind that xCrowd already said those dimensions are not final. He will be posting the final ones in a couple of weeks once they have done some more investigational work.

Yup, I do know it's not final but having to bring my own electrician to add 30 or 50 amp circuitry is my Plan C or D. I doubt Xcrowd would mainly depend on this as the bulk of its Olympus customers or hope that "institutional" investors gamble  $28k-$44k+ just in hosting alone plus at least 30% deposit before they even know if there's any ROI. That'd be kind of stupid, wouldn't it?
With their lower product lines this issue is much much less, which is counter-intuitive because this is supposed to be their flagship product and the one that should be more efficient. Until they show decent specs and not from the 50's, this product remains as NOT even suitable for colo.

368  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] xCrowd*US/UK*TH/s+ Units on: August 21, 2013, 11:23:16 PM
I think we might need some confirmation from xcrowd on the response above because it seems very similar not only in content but grammar to attempts by eve and his sockpuppets to spread FUD about xcrowd. I find it very unlikely that arorts even contacted them.

Is there a rule against using multiple accounts to try to spread an opinion of a business? I would like to see if it is possible for an admin to check if the ip addresses are the same.

So Olympus is

Unit Dimensions:  W65"xH60"xD25"

that is in metric: wide 165cm, height 152cm, depth 63cm - good old mainframe times come to my mind.. where big "boxes with fans" did "something" and it was cool Smiley

Yes, they definitely earn the "MOST STUPID PRODUCT DESIGN EVER" award.

Here are a few email responses from colocation service providers I've been trying to get a quote. And I live in high-tech California!!!:

"The issue is that server would not fit into any of our cabinets or racks, they are all 19” wide."

****

"I sent the specs of your server to our sales engineer and he informed me
that your server is too big to even fit into a full cabinet and you
would need about 50Amps of power which is a lot. You have a very large
piece of equipment and might need a custom cabinet in order to host it
in a data center.

Unfortunately we would not be able to help you. "
*******

"I'm sorry but in your case we'd have to create a custom cabinet for that and we'd have to charge you at least $4000-$5000 per month given your very large power consumption and space required"

I hate to be the elephant in the room, but any word on August shipments?

I know you guys said late August, but that is approaching quite soon.

As you can see, we've hit a setback unfortunately. Luckily we identified this in time (before all chips were soldered to non-working boards). It'll take ~2 days to produce the boards, but up to 5 days to ship them to europe, so I might be going to China to test them on location to save time. We might find someone locally to do this also, but if I go there I'll be able to take some pics for you. I sincerely apologize for this delay. We're working hard to keep the delay to minimum.

Update

I've added option for UPS Express Saver shipping, and dropped the prices a bit as further october orders will most likely ship in very late october. Those who picked first october orders are likely to receive theirs in very early october, if not september.

Regarding invoices: there was a problem on the site. I will need to send invoices manually. You will get an invoice, don't worry.

I need to sleep now. Shanghai awaits tomorrow. I should have more news for you in about 30 hours.

Thats the latest.

Hmmm...He probably meant adding that shipping option to the **European** site. I fail to find it in the US website.
Anyone knows how to set the shipping option in the US website??
371  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] xCrowd*US/UK*TH/s+ Units on: August 20, 2013, 07:37:05 PM
Import duties / VAT / etc will have to be paid by the customer i suppose

and a 175cm * 175cm * 75cm box will not pass customs unnoticed :-)

Promise less, deliver more. It will most likely be in a much smaller form factor which will be confirmed over the next couple of weeks. That was mainly the reason why we stopped taking shipping fees in advance.

Please, please, please do seriously work on your product design. It's not that I can't afford spending the money on an Olympus to place it in a colo facility. Is that I already called a few colo service providers and not only did they almost laughed at me like" "Wow! What kind of massive server is that?" but also gave me an obscene quote that eats a massive share of my potential profits that makes it no more profitable than lower-end product lines or as profitable as other competitive products.

It's ok to design "cool-looking" yet less efficient products if they are entry-level. However, for the high-end product line I see absolutely no need to waste so much space and resources, you want to be super efficient in space and weight as well. I think you should seriously attempt to slash volumetric space by at least a factor of 3-4 and weight by a factor of 10. Otherwise, you are putting your products at a huge competitive and value disadvantage in relation to other companies that have much more efficient product designs and also puts yourself in unnecessary extra burden with shipping and customs logistics. And this is supposed to be your flagship product. Thanks.

An empty blade center S weighs over 35kg
I am guessing a lot more full.

to put things in context

Yup. Uber ridiculous. It's not like the product design for a fridge  that at least will sit in my house for full 5-10 years at my home. This crap goes to the dumper in 1 year after mining so what company cares about spending so much $$ on temporary 'blade center' technology crap. They should also include a heavy duty, complimentary dolly with it.

I don't think I could get one past my wife that's for sure :-)

Even if you were able to sneak it, it's stupidly designed to leave a crater in your garage, lol!! I mean BFL is into the doorstep business so XC decided to enter into the cool yet hulking mini-bar business? Something's messed up.

Shipping costs will be added to your bill later. So at the time of the order, people have no idea of the extra shipping costs.

Now look at the size and weight of the Olympus:

Unit Dimensions:  W65"xH60"xD25"

Weight: 50KG - 80KG

This thing is enormous. I suggest you demand a quote of the shipping costs before you order or you are in for a big surprise.
Keep in mind they ship from China.

OMG!!! Are those dimensions a freaking joke?Huh?
80 Kgs?? That has to be the most f'ing ridiculous miner ever!

Bitfury packs 400 Gh/s in a tiny fraction of that ubermonster. Your kid could even lift 5 of those kits with one hand and yes, those are blade-design too.
There's no colo service on earth that would take that ridiculous Olympus nuclear reactor and still profitably mine with the associated colo expenses.
How many units of rack space is that? like 37???!!!

In other words, it's impossible to make money with this crap if you can't even mine with it at home. On the other hand, if you want hosted services they ask for a nonsense terabillion as a minimum.
I'm NOT interested in their low-end products so please don't even offer me that option.
I mean I could also get 5 Monarch PCI cards from BFL and that's 3TH! that I can pick up with one hand.

Is there another way to make this work? I was about to spend money on 1 or 2 of these but this product is begging not to be purchased :-/
Worst turn off ever! I really hope I'm missing something or that I'm having a nightmare and those are just mock specs when I wake up!!
375  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: August 20, 2013, 03:36:17 AM
What PSU model would you recommend?

It would depend how many H-boards are in use. A starter kit would work fine with a 350W supply, even a 200W supply likely. A full 400GHash rig would need at least 500W (assuming that bitfury is operating near the 1w/GHash design), but a 750W supply would be best

That's not true in regards to the 400 Gh rig power requirements. Please read post #973 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=251966.960

So if I place an order for the Ascraeus, does it come with any blades or that's just the enclosure??

The Ascraeus and Olympus both come with blades. They are module design so can be expanded by buying additional blades.

Ok. So, to be exact, Ascraeus comes with 5 (750Gh/s)and Olympus with 8 blades (1200 Gh/s), right?

There's something weird about the power consumption.

It says it's 1.6w/Gh yet for Olympus 18 150 Gh/s blades should be 4,320W but the box says it's 5,000W. Same with the lower bound. Power consumption figures don't add up.
380  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: August 19, 2013, 08:20:19 PM
Given the proximity to shipping time, I still don't see the shipping options in "My Account."  I thought there were going to be a few available to choose from.
