I can't help but notice the huge pump going on over at blackcoin  www.coinmarketcap.com

The only thing different about this coin is it is POS with a multipool that mines SHA256 or Scrypt and pays out in black. Surely there is someone around here that could pull a DRK multipool?

Can someone tell me what is the usual darkcoin power usage compared to scrypt? Lower, higher? I need a specific value for the hashrate you get. Best would be for udnervolted 280x or 290.

I am trying to add darkcoin to my site and need this data.

People often quote 30% decreased electricity usage, I haven't tested this personally so I can't vouch for that number.

I have 280x and 290 (not undervolted) and I get

2.29 Mhash for 280x
2.55 Mhash for 290

Also temps are ~10-15C cooler, which helps the stability bigtime.

Here is a table with other user's numbers: https://docs.zoho.com/sheet/published.do?rid=12cbm2fe8ce55abb2476daa0f8c576b442d40&mode=html

Or somebody wants you to think that...
I would usually bet that it's a fake wall to make you buy from the very same person who fakes the buy order but doesn't really plan on buying any more

The problem is you can't fake a 112BTC buy wall on cryptsy (at least there is no evidence that you can).  If you place a buy order you are risking that it get filled in one trade.  There is no way (unless you have inside access to cryptsy servers) to withdraw a buy order between the time that someone tries to sell to the order and the time that the order completes.

This exact scenario was the subject of a recent 60 minutes episode, and book "flash boys".  The book describes how high frequency traders were able to place huge buy walls, then intercept incoming large sell orders milliseconds before they hit the exchange. By moving the buy wall back a fraction of a second before the sell order arrived at the exchange they were able to make billions of USD.  They were only able to do this though with hundreds of millions of dollars invested into infrastructure in/around NYC.

Ultimately only someone with inside access to the Cryptsy servers would be able to set up fake buy walls in this manner, and there is no evidence that this has ever happened.

Nyancoin voted to go X11, should be implemented in the next couple weeks.

Has there been any progress made on an Nvidia x11 miner?  Someone posted on reddit that they were working on one: http://www.reddit.com/r/DRKCoin/comments/20yzaq/trying_to_develop_cuda_for_drk/ but the last update was 17 days ago and the original poster deleted their reddit account...

Just a reminder to everyone - if you haven't subscribed to http://www.reddit.com/r/DRKCoin/ please do so!

We should try to build the community as large as we can before the release of darksend!  Grin

what is the best way at this time to buy DRK.

From Fiat.

Buy litecoin or Bitcoin ?

Where to buy them from fiat ?

Where to exchange Lite/bitcoin to DRK.

Most people recommend to buy bitcoin on Coinbase, then send it to Cryptsy and buy DRK there.
369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Darkcoin airdrop to fix first 24 hours? on: April 07, 2014, 05:04:13 AM
I have nothing but respect for you Evan but this is a terrible idea and might even kill the coin.  The metrics you have suggested are completely arbitrary, and I am really bothered by the fact that the coins would not be automatically distributed by the network.  I trust you, we all do, but this just comes off as super shady and will scare off investors IMO.
370  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: April 07, 2014, 04:57:44 AM

A sister coin would wipe out Darkcoin, especially if we did it. So it's not a good idea.

Other options are:

1.) Renaming the coin. It keeps coming up over and over, maybe we should really consider it. Everyone start coming up with names and I'll make a voting page to gauge if our user base even wants this.
2.) The first 24 hours of the coins existence keep causing us problems, an "airdrop" could be a solution to this. We could airdrop all holders (uniquely verified) with a equal portion of coin. This coin would come from a block in the future that paid 2.4million+ coins to a specific address that I hold. We could use some kind of verification system like mastercoin (http://mastercoin-faucet.com/github-intro)
The airdrop would be a month or so into the future, so it would give users time to buy coins and become holders creating some demand. Also, we'd have a much larger market cap and the argument about the first 24 hours would become invalid.

As always, we listen to the community. If enough people complain, we'll do something...

1) The name is fine - "the general public" is never going to use darkcoin, it will be used by people who care about ANONYMITY - The general public will just stick with bitcoin, because it is "anonymous enough" for 95% of folks, and has tons of other advantages (wide retail acceptance etc)
2) The first 24 hours became a larger problem when the # of coins decreased from 84million to 22million, In retrospect this was probably a mistake... but we can't take that back now without killing the price and shaking investor confidence. The airdrop idea sounds super shady, even if it isn't.

Major changes like this should not be taken lightly.  Investors want specs that are written in stone. Major changes should ONLY happen if it's crucial for the success of the coin.  Neither of these issues meet that requirement and therefore I think should be left as-is.
371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Rebrand Darkcoin? on: April 07, 2014, 04:26:15 AM
I like the name a lot.  It's one of the biggest things the coin has going for it in my opinion.  It's edgy and it will appeal to people who want to transfer money anonymously. The name is also way way way better than "Zerocoin", which is a terrible name by any measure..

I'm also stuck, maybe its possible that all the people im currently connected to are people also stuck and thats why im not receiving further blocks? so I guess if a lot of people is still not in 0.9.1.2 it will take a while for the blockchain to propagate for those who where stuck due to the bug in the previous version

Yep, most likely.  Once we get some more people synced it should be faster for everyone. Mine took about 10 minutes to find a node to sync with.

We've got a major problem, I have two wallets on two separate machines both stuck on block 46226.

v0.9.1.0-unk-beta
windows

Yeah, it's windows. I just pushed a fix, InternetApe is compiling. Should be up soon

Fixed, Download: http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/darkcoin-qt.exe  (It's the same version number, but it'll continue past that block)

Ok it's working ! (v0.9.1.2-unk-beta)

I just updated, after about 5 minutes mine has still not passed block 46226.  11 active connections.

Version is showing v0.9.1.2-unk-beta

Edit: NEVERMIND all synced up now!   Grin Grin

Is it just the windows client that is bugged?  All of the pools seem to be on the correct block, but http://drk.poolhash.org/poolhash.html shows a significant drop in network hashrate.

So POS w/ decreased rewards looks like it won.

If I had the money I'd do the same thing.

X-11 w/ reduced block rewards is impossible because it would lead to too low of a network hash rate to protect the coin from 51% attack.

Even if Nyan went to 10% it's current (abysmal) hashrate, it would have a higher hashrate than many other altcoins.  A 51% attack is extremely unlikely (I am only aware of it happening maybe once or twice in the history of altcoins), but I agree - x-11 with reduced rewards is not ideal.

X-11 / POS hybrid with reduced block reward would lead to even lower POW hash rate. Even though it will be protected from attack by the POS portion, it is still not really worth all the effort.

Why is it not worth the effort?  We get to keep a mineable coin that is immune to a 51% attack and has a cool POS feature.

If miners want to join the NYAN community, they can easily mine other coins and buy NYAN. That was what I was doing for quite some time myself, mining NYAN directly isn't the most profitable and I could get more NYAN simply by buying after mining something else like DOGE. Changing to POS from POW does not lead to people not joining the community, they will do so anyways by buying. In fact, if the coin is attractive to investors, we'd actually get more of a community than we have now. I think most of the crypto community nowadays aren't even miners, they are investors. (i.e. blackcoin proved that you can get plenty of interest and a community even after the coin has switched fully to POS from POW).

There needs to be a reason for investors to buy the coin.  What reason can we give them?  Our best hope was to build a strong community like dogecoin.  We had a lot going for us, ip license, huge nyancat following on FB and Twitter, a fun meme. So far though it hasn't panned out for reasons you have described (terrible conversion rate from the nyancat facebook page etc etc).  We could abandon the community/tipping/newbie friendly/ fun coin route and try to market the coin to investors, but it just seems like the wrong move to me. Would you invest in a coin based on a poptart cat internet meme with no community?  Our only hope in my view is to try to build a community, and I think it would be much harder to do that without mining.

I have been explaining these points to you over and over again simcom, but you don't seem to answer them at all...

I am a scientist working 60 hr weeks, with a super high maintenance gf and 2 cats Grin, I often don't have time to respond to every point.  Sad  If we go pure POS I will still support the coin, just think it would be a mistake. I appreciate what you are doing for the coin and the subreddit, I know you're pushing what you think is right for the coin.

Can I vote no confidence?

X-11 / POS hybrid was the best option, as the first poll clearly indicated.

The 2nd best option would be:

X-11 w/reduced block rewards - why isn't this one of the choices?  Huh

As for the pure POS, how are we going to get new people excited about NYAN if they cannot mine it??   In order to attract investors we need a community, and to build a community we need a mineable coin.
380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NYAN] NyanCoin - ★★★V1.2 Released! KGW Implemented! MANDATORY UPDATE ★★★ on: March 31, 2014, 02:36:14 AM
It is that reason why I tought we could change to hefty
it has an internal voting system for the amount of coins as a block reward.
say you want less coin... vote low... you want more? vote high...
heavyoin has the option to vote between a 1 and 1024 coin reward.
At the moment the reward is voted to 550.
that is approx 50% of what miners can get...
it is a democratic battle between miners who want 1 coin and miners who want full reward...

it was just a tought, but it looks like I'm the only one who shares this vision Cheesy
ofcourse I will follow community's choice

You're voting for the hefty algo here, separate from the other features of heftycoin. I agree though, the hefty voting is a pretty neat feature.
