361  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: September 12, 2012, 12:30:08 AM
All the instructions/files here
https://gist.github.com/3646033

Thanks for the awesome instructions. Now I, too have Armory running on my Pi! I sent half a bitcoin to your donation address.

etothepi, is it currently possible or would it difficult to implement command line transaction signing? For instance...

Code:
$ python armoryengine.py --sign-tx test.unsigned.tx

Prompting for the encryption password if encrypted, and wallet ID if it can't determine that on its own.

It could then either prompt to sign with information about the transaction, or just sign it and display that information.

Otherwise I have to get a USB hub, because with mouse and keyboard plugged in to the Pi, I have no USB ports left for transferring the files on USB drive.

Scientific proof backs up my claim that sickness is caused by a weak soul

I'd like to see your scientific proof.

where's your evidence?

I have made no claims, what should I show you evidence of exactly?

edit... Viceroy, sorry for the off topic posts, but what the fuck, how could I not respond to this?
363  Economy / Lending / Re: 87.5% gross profit industry needs a loan - state legal marijuana on: September 11, 2012, 01:24:11 AM
It requires chemical energy for the plant to make the chemicals, so there is a small amount of energy transfered. The amount of energy is quite small. The affect of the drug is due to interactions with receptors, not because of the energy in the chemical.

Just FYI, you're talking to someone who thinks that cancer comes from thinking negative thoughts. How people trust him with their money is a mystery to me.

Getting high is a transfer of energy from the plant, after all.

No. No it is not. It has certain chemicals which react interestingly with your brain.
365  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: September 09, 2012, 08:43:01 PM
Quick question... I sent a transaction at roughly the same time my modem lost its connection, now it's sitting there in sent/unconfirmed status. Is there any way to force a transaction to be rebroadcast? That could be a useful advanced feature to have.

Also, it just so happens the transaction in question was to address 1ArmoryXcfq7TnCSuZa9fQjRYwJ4bkRKfv Smiley
366  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Improving Offline Wallets (i.e. cold-storage) on: September 09, 2012, 08:02:13 PM
Crossposting this from the Armory thread:

Instead of explicitly defining the hardware layer, would it be possible to have Armory be agnostic about such things? I'm not sure how/if this would work in Windows, but I'm imagining that a *nix user could set up a device (/dev/foo) on each computer that when read from/written to would communicate with the other computer. Then in Armory, the user would just specify which device should be used for communication. The user would be liable for setting up the connection and making sure that connection was secure, and Armory would attempt to communicate with itself through that device, failing gracefully if unable.

Are you sure that Thomas Holzinger is really behind both businesses, and not just an owner/worker in a PR firm that both businesses hired? For instance maybe part of the services they offer is registering domains and hosting websites? Just wondering out loud...

I understand your hesitation to include features that might get you blamed for theft of bitcoins.

369  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MAGAZINE ARRIVED! on: September 09, 2012, 03:56:05 AM
Nope it is not. For more information on the "pages 34 and 35 teaser" find us in London in September and we will explain.

Not in the budget, unfortunately. Will the information be available publicly after the event?

Oh, and I just did some searching and I found it wasn't a "teaser" I was remembering, it was a "surprise gift"... Now I'm curious all over again.
370  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MAGAZINE ARRIVED! on: September 09, 2012, 03:48:43 AM
Why is issue #3 at Barnes and Noble but I still haven't gotten issue #2 in the mail.

#2 and #3 printed and shipped at the same time. This was done due to print distribution schedules clash forced by our distribution contract. It ls on it's way.

And for those of you who have not got it yet (all are dispatched ) here is a little teaser: http://bitcoinmagazine.net/bob-the-teaser-13/

Is this teaser related to the one from the first issue (which I think is what was on pages 34 and 35)?
371  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: September 09, 2012, 03:37:52 AM
What were the drawbacks of RS232 again? The possibility of opening a terminal through the connection? I seem to remember that was fairly easily mitigated, but I can't find the thread now. I just ordered a Raspberry Pi (actually two, one from BitMit, one from Newark) to set up as an offline wallet storage box. Eventually I wanted to connect it to my main computer via RS232 and play with that idea.

Dude, you're out of your fucking mind.

Quote
U.S. Attorney John Walsh issued letters this month to 10 medical marijuana access points throughout Colorado, ordering them to either shut down or move because they are located within 1,000 feet of schools.

Viceroy mentioned these shutdowns already...

Welcome to ignoreland, population you.

Your need to cut and paste from a well-known a propagandist source (DrugFacts.org) is not welcome, please go hijack someone else's thread.

...

Please deal with facts, not propaganda posted by prohibitionists.

His wall of text was actually from DrugWarFacts.org, an anti-prohibition site, with all stated facts being sourced from reputable locations. But yeah, I don't think he actually read it, just copied an entire page and posted it to scare you.

Can anyone say collateralized debt obligation? This shit is getting meta. How long is it going to take for all of the pirate bets to unwind!?
375  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Transactions that never complete on: September 07, 2012, 08:44:54 PM
Also, I have no intention to bash bitcoinj, but I'm curious why the fees aren't implemented yet..?  The way I did it in Armory is very simple and seems to work very reliably.

I think it was due to discussion on the best way to implement fees. From what I've read, Mike just checked in those changes and setting of fees will be part of the API as of version 0.6 (the next release).
376  Economy / Lending / Re: Incredibly high rate of return on real-world investment opportunity on: September 07, 2012, 08:29:23 PM
The SEC is in charge of managing securities and public offerings but there has not yet been any case law established calling bitcoins money or currency that I am aware of, else GLBSE could not operate at all within the US. I also am not aware of any instance where a holder of bitcoins has been forced to pay taxes on them, are you?

http://www.lextechnologiae.com/2011/06/26/why-bitcoin-isnt-a-security-under-federal-securities-law/

Well, Bitcoin is not a security, but would a security sold in exchange for bitcoin not fall under the jurisdiction of the SEC? I'm not sure.

I don't know if anyone has specifically been caught evading taxes on bitcoins, but I do know that according to the income tax rules, any financial transaction, even if it is barter, is a taxable event.
377  Economy / Lending / Re: Is there enough interest in real world lending for 15%- 20% ? on: September 07, 2012, 08:24:59 PM
If I would be so sure, BC is going up at least 20% the next year, I would be invested at least 50% and not doing a lot of other things. I am just not.

20% of $11 is only $2.20. I feel pretty confident that Bitcoin will be trading above $13.20 in the next year. Hmm...

Perhaps you could purchase an option to buy as many bitcoin as you would need to pay back your loan. That would cut into your profit margin but it would provide security against currency risk.
378  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: colored bitcoins/distributed exchanges proof-of-concept on: September 07, 2012, 08:19:11 PM
I'm glad you're working on this. I hadn't heard of the idea until just now, but after reading the bitcoin2.x spec, I really like the idea.

I just wanted to respond to your quote from the other thread...

(Well, technically there is a couple of problems: Bitcoin blockchain is hostile towards microtransactions and probably cannot scale to support them on a large scale. But it isn't a fundamental problem, I think.)

As you say, I don't think is a fundamental problem. Bitcoin is only hostile toward microtransactions because it makes little sense to do any transaction for an amount around what it costs to pay the transaction fee. However, it isn't necessary to include every transaction in a block at the same time, or to do microtransactions one at time.

It has been suggested that in the future, parties who have some level of trust may create a chain of dependent bitcoin transactions before finally submitting the entire chain to a miner with an appropriate fee (but at a discount from the fee-per-transaction model). There was another, related idea that would allow one party to securely pay another in small increments up to a predetermined amount. Unfortunately, I cannot remember where I saw that.
379  Economy / Lending / Re: Is there enough interest in real world lending for 15%- 20% ? on: September 07, 2012, 07:56:10 PM
cool story bro
NO

Considering your ironic statement and your avatar text, you probably think this is a scam.
This is rather sad because it implies that even suggesting to handle out all possible proof and gurantees you think there is no interest in this kind of lending. I guess there is no interest in lending at all then or can you tell me what exactly is wrong with this model?
Or do you think there is no and should not be a BC economy?

Don't pay too much attention to him.

I think that if you were to provide solid evidence of your identity and ability to fulfill your contractual obligations, you will find investors in this community who will be interested whether or not you are an officially licensed government certified business.

Many times you can disable all that stuff in the BIOS and don't need a special kernel.  If the devices are disabled at the hardware level, it doesn't really matter if the modules are there or not Smiley

I think he's running this off a USB drive and wants to be able to boot untrusted computers (which may have network connectivity).
