361  Other / Off-topic / The thread in which BFL trolls Enterpoint on: June 18, 2012, 02:47:08 PM
BFL is trying really hard to prove they are nothing but a joke. I've never seen that bad business ethics. Ok I have but those companies failed very quickly.
362  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is this proof BFL mines real coins during testing? on: June 18, 2012, 01:44:39 PM
I am a minirig customer, and I say they can test, burn , mine or whatever they like to do to test the rigs before they send me, they have me blessings Smiley

You ordered six, right? Have you got them already?
363  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Labs ASIC release date - no earlier than February 2013 on: June 18, 2012, 10:30:28 AM
I just got a call from BFL. They said that the whole ASIC is pure BS. ****y said that whole announcement was to scare competitors and get all the money from miners. I also asked whether they are going to run with the money or someday develop an ASIC. Didn't get a proper answer. Something about Tahiti.. maybe he meant 7970s?

User BFL has been online and I fins it very hard to believe he hasn't read this thread.

It tells a lot about their policy that they haven't posted a single word after the OP. I just don't see what is the point to pre-announce something that is 1mil and 6months away.

As a sidenote to BFL: what you will do, Enterpoint can do better and they will keep customers informed at all times. They are also trustworthy.

I didn't mean that as an absolute truth. My assumption is that positive ROI for mining equipment will be 7-12 months. If 40Ghash is 1300$ that means the difficulty is around 60 000 000, BTC price where it is now.
So with those numbers Terahash in 2013 = 29 Gigahash right now.

I don't think terahash is enough for solo mining in 2013. You said you are going to buy four so I assumed that everyone else is also buying four. And I think you were talking about SC Singles. (1,3k$ each)

IF BFL delivers... I think they are just pre announcing and you can wait to get on a wait list. Although money is welcome right away Smiley Developing ASIC will take at least 6 months and BFL was founded last august I think. No way they have an ASIC ready this year.

But of course BFL can correct me and give us some details about their schedule. The fact that they haven't already tells enough.

Somethings nobody has posted as best I can tell...

  • What are the network requirements for 1 Th/s?
  • How many pools can support a handful of users each pushing 3-4 TH/s each?
  • Will it be more efficient to solo-mine (assuming bonus PPS pools/proxies do not exist)?
  • Doesn't bitcoind start to chose around 200-300 Gh/s?

I think we have seen problems with home routers choking on 40-50 Gh/s  Huh

If you're mining with 1TH/s, it would be more profitable to solo mine.

Probably not. Remember that everyone else is also buying four or more. Terahash is not the same thing then as it is now. Terahash in 2013 = Gigahash in 2012.

Problems occur because right now we are dealing with difficulty 1 shares. That can be changed any time if your mining software supports it. So I don't think there will be any problems.

Yes, ASIC is faster than FPGA, but it's not that much faster. So no I don't believe their numbers.

Me neither. That's way I'm asking Yohan's opinion on this. BFL is a shady company so I'm not buying from them. I rather quit mining. I bet we all can mine with FPGAs at least until the reward halving before BFL gets any ASICs to customers.

"This time" don't get your hopes up, I'm not going to cancel my order.
369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Quad XC6SLX150 Board - Initial Price £400/$640/520€ on: June 16, 2012, 03:08:39 PM
Yoan, could you give us your professional opinion about ASIC vs FPGA. I'm sure there are a lot of customers wondering if they should cancel their FPGA order.

Let's assume Cairnsmore will do 800Mhash/s. One needs 50 boards to achieve 40Ghash/s. This is 32 000$.
BFL claims they can deliver ASIC miner doing 40Ghash/s for 1300$.

If this is the case there is no point investing in FPGAs (or GPUs).

1) Is it possible to develop a working ASIC miner in 6 months?
2) Is it really that cheap?

I think they are just trying to scare customers to wait until they get the ASIC ready.
370  Bitcoin / Hardware / [Archive] BFL trolling museum on: June 16, 2012, 08:05:56 AM
I just can not believe this. GPUs are useless, FPGAs are useless before they give me positive ROI.

All the money invested in mining HW will go to BFL. This is a dangerous situation.

About cgminer being default FPGA miner. Yes, it is not a default. Right now it's working and it's free so I don't believe there is any reason for anyone to give a free board for the Python based mining software developer.

Mr. Rampone. Stop that complaining. You have purchased that board knowing it's fpr developers. That literally means that you have to DEVELOP something to get it working . I don't see what's the problem here. Enterpoint is not serving you and bringing breakfast to bed? Some of us have ordered a lot more than one board and still don't even have them. You have yours so develop that bitstream and be happy.

Requesting MPBM front-end interface for Cairnsmore1:

Please!

A free board for TheSeven? I doubt that is going to happen if cgminer works.
373  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] HD 5970, in EU on: June 13, 2012, 11:48:32 AM
No, I don't consider it broken/faulty. It is mining right now 625MHash/s and in a place where I don't pay for power. It can mine away until it dies (if it dies).
374  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC = The end of decentralized mining on: June 13, 2012, 11:45:48 AM
Can anyone give me a link to a real and ready ASIC product that would back up all these claims about FPGAs becoming paperweights?

Oh shit, I forgot, there isn't ASIC available to miners at least in two months. No one really knows the hashingspeed, price, power consumption or even the lead time. So why does this thread have so many replies.
375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Quad XC6SLX150 Board - Initial Price £400/$640/520€ on: June 11, 2012, 05:38:33 AM
Just to clarify, at this time, the boards are not able to do any mining yet correct?

Secondly, when will the second shipment occur for preorders?  Thanks!

There is really no point for me to even answer this because yohan knows better and he's so active here Smiley

But I'll try
Cairnsmore1 can mine with Icarus bitsream using only 2/4 cores. It can also mine with Enterpoint's own bitstream using all the cores. Enterpoint's bitstream is still under development. Right now the hashing speed isn't worth mentioning.
376  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 10, 2012, 04:09:09 PM
I was just about to say that he might be using AC Xtreme. It tends to keep core temperature very low but the VRMs are way too hot. That's a known problem with that cooler.

45C for core is perfect but 100C for VRMs will fuck them up in the long run. Underclock that rather than overclock.
377  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ASUS DCII 6970 Which bios to go lower than 850MHz mem? on: June 10, 2012, 04:02:25 PM
I found my old Afterburner profile file and this is what is says. With this I could adjust the voltage. If that really doesn't help I'm out of tips.

[Startup]
CoreClk=0
MemClk=0
FanSpeed=0
CoreVoltageBoost=-1

[Settings]
uP6208_Detection = 1
VDDC_uP6208_Detection = 46H

Too hot. I keep my cards under 65 but most of us run them between 70 and 80 I think?

How much do you pay for electricity? Do you have a kill-a-watt?
http://tradebtc.net/bitcalc.php
Try different numbers and see what gives you the best ROI.

I would try settings around 800/150 or 850/150. You have to find the right voltage.

Over 100C is simply too much.
379  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] HD 5970, in EU on: June 10, 2012, 09:10:27 AM
Not stable. It crashed the whole rig yesterday when I was away from home. I came back home and there were 20k shares missing from my pool stats.. So yes, it might die in few weeks?

Mining happily with 710/150 though.

Let me know wha you think.
380  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] HD 5970, in EU on: June 08, 2012, 10:31:47 AM
- Bought used
- Mid-January
- Battlefield3 gamer from Finland

I'm underclocking memory because of the heat. Underclocking ables me to drop the voltage all the way down to 950mV. Are you serious about mining with stock settings? I've never tried mining with stock settings so I don't know about stability.

Last time the card crashed was about 10 days ago and that was the second core. First core never crashes. I tried using 11.12 while ago but it just wasn't stable. Now I have only 4 GPUs and I'm using 12.4. Mining without problems. And yes, I'm using windows.

What is your definition about stock settings? 725/1000/1049mV? I will run it with setting of your choosing and let's see if it's stable. If not - I will wait for the VRMs to die Cheesy
