361  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is there any service that lets me trade bitcoins for a wire transfer? on: August 30, 2014, 03:43:48 PM
If the recipient gets a merchant account at bitpay or coinbase they can just invoice you and the funds will be in their account the next day.  Not sure if that fits within your circumstances.
362  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitpay question. on: August 30, 2014, 01:48:12 PM
Then you have to copy and paste your blockchain.info address in the invoice.  if the invoice did not show up them that is a Bitpay issue or a problem with the web site interfacing with the bitpay api.
363  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitpay question. on: August 30, 2014, 11:46:11 AM
If you are using blockchain.info wallet by logging into their web site then there is nothing you can do except copy and paste the bitpay payment address into your blockchain.info wallet.

if you are using an app I am not sure.  there may be a way to associate bitcoin links and make the blockchain.info app open.  are you using an app or the web interface?
364  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitpay question. on: August 30, 2014, 11:33:58 AM
I see now.  I think that is a local configuration of your computer in that bitcoin links clicked in your browser is trying to open a program on your computer.  In other words, bitcoin links are not associated with your blockchain wallet.  On my computer when I click a Bitcoin link itit opens up my multibit wallet.
365  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitpay question. on: August 30, 2014, 11:16:50 AM
Your wallet at blockchain.info doesn't have anything to do with clicking on the pay link.  Bitpay process that and they will send your funds to your address (which just happens to be on blockchain.info).  Bitpay will give customers a different address to pay tha your blockchain address.  Sending payment to your blockchain address will bypass Bitpay

367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Do People Believe Bitcoin Will Replace Fiat? on: August 28, 2014, 12:46:54 AM
I'm not even convinced that Bitcoin will be the survivor in the crypto coin wars. Most initial iterations of software are not the final useful form that becomes popular.

But bitcoin isn't software, it's a protocol. Open and upgradeable at that.

Bitcoin is both a protocol and a software program.  "Upgradeable" means breaking the consensus and a new consensus must be achieved.

Easy to do, and was done at least once already. Just have the code be released as dormant in the new versions of bitcoin, have it track how many nodes have updraged, and  then switch on automatically once about 90% to 95% of the network has installed the version with the new code. Users won't even notice the switchover as it goes from an old style block to a new style block. P2Pool publishes upgrades to their systems this way all the time, and unless you know what is going on, you wouldn't even notice the hard forks, other than installing a new version once in a while.

You are missing the point.  When you tell new users that Bitcoin is easily upgraded the first thing say is that it must be easy to change the 21 million limit.  Then Bitcoiners often respond respond with explaining the consensus and how hard it would be to change.  This confuses people because if Bitcoin is so easy to change then many of the claimed benefits would be worthless.

I think the people who go around saying Bitcoin will replace all money, that it will end wars, collapse banks and governments, etc. are slowing the adoption of Bitcoin.

good point : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joITmEr4SjY&feature=youtu.be

Not sure if you are being sarcastic but if you show a video like that to a new user most will immediately lose interest and think it is some kind nonsense.  That is probably the number one complaint I hear from new users looking for info.  They often complain when they look for info about Bitcoin they are directed to some 30-45 minute video filled with a bunch of political ideology.  In general, people want to know how to donate $2 for their favorite charity or tip someone on discussion board, they don't want some monetary policy discussion.  If start talking about collapsing governments/banks you might as well forget it, most people will never listen.

The worst are the people who have some political cause, claim Bitcoin is part of that cause, and try to imply that anyone who uses Bitcoin agrees with them and supports their cause.

As Andreas says, Bitcoin's political cause is neutrality, while the world's political cause is SEVERELY skewed to the side. So, in that kind of a world, just being neutral seems like being politically radical. Kind of like just being neutral to everyone and treating everyone equally was a radical political stance at a time when some people were slaves.
[/quote]

There is a big difference between a radical political stance and going around acting like a screwball.  If the goal is to increase the usage and importance of Bitcoin then you are not going to achieve that goal with a bunch of hyperbole and nonsense.  That drives people away and makes it difficult for people trying to increase adoption.  Using Bitcoin in itself is not a political stance of any kind.  Now you may want to use Bitcoin as a tool to achieve some goal because it has more options than other payment instruments but it does automatically meant you agree with anything.  That is like saying that everyone who uses the USD agrees with the policies and politics of the USA.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is an Altcoin on: August 25, 2014, 11:20:27 AM
I think the term is based on the software development.  The code is being developed under Bitcoin and the "altcoins" take that code and make some changes to provide an alternative but they depend on the development of the Bitcoin project for updates.

I think the people who go around saying Bitcoin will replace all money, that it will end wars, collapse banks and governments, etc. are slowing the adoption of Bitcoin.  When people hear this stuff they often disregard Bitcoin as anything serious and it confuses people as to what Bitcoin actually is.  The worst are the people who have some political cause, claim Bitcoin is part of that cause, and try to imply that anyone who uses Bitcoin agrees with them and supports their cause.
373  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: new to Bitcoin finding it a bit hard! on: August 22, 2014, 02:50:16 PM
Bitcoin has public addresses where you receive funds and a secret private key needed to spend the funds.  If someone gets hold of the private key they can spend the funds and you can't them back.  If you lose the private keys you can't spend the funds.  a paper wallet backs up the private keys on paper in case your computer crashed.

A cold wallet is run a computer that is never connected to the Internet and that keeps your secret private keys.  Hackers can't get to it via the net if you never connect that computer to the internet.

For large amounts you could use a cold wallet with a paper backup in a remote location.
374  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: My Wallet Is Empty. Where is my BTC? on: August 20, 2014, 11:22:02 PM
If it is all the same addresses and it shows some of the transactions then the blockchain is not being scanned completely.  It should not be taking an hour for Armory to sync up as well.

The transactions seem rather large in terms of data so maybe that is slowing down Armory or crashing it.

I would delete the blockchain data from your bitcoin-d and reload the blockchain.  Wait until bitcoin-d is all caught up.  Then run Armory again and let it run.
375  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin Skype Party!!! on: August 20, 2014, 10:00:51 PM
Hey, I bought BitParty.com last year with that idea in mind.  Anyone want to run the web site and organize parties?  The best way to get newbies involved is to have some kind of event that is just not a discussion of bitcoin.
376  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: My Wallet Is Empty. Where is my BTC? on: August 20, 2014, 01:47:41 AM
That sounds long, do you have the latest version?
377  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: My Wallet Is Empty. Where is my BTC? on: August 20, 2014, 01:09:00 AM
You should be able to find that address in your wallet.  If not then generate more addresses.
378  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: My Wallet Is Empty. Where is my BTC? on: August 20, 2014, 12:39:28 AM
You are just showing the used addresses.  try adding more, I have several hundred.  Are you sure you restored the correct wallet?  It would show transactions out if it was hacked so I think it is just the address thing.
379  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: My Wallet Is Empty. Where is my BTC? on: August 19, 2014, 11:58:17 PM
It actually says "addresses used" and the number is a link
380  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: My Wallet Is Empty. Where is my BTC? on: August 19, 2014, 11:53:53 PM
highlight the wallet and click "wallet properties" on the left.  "number of address" has a number which is a link.  Click the number and generate more addresses.  then restart.
